Tomo👍 If you were at Berklee in the 90’s…and walked by Tomo’s classroom…every morning Tomo could be heard practicing his funk before his full day of teaching. Inspired, this guy Loves Music… and those Triads!!!
Tomo is tops in the mindset department. His teaching has allowed me to finally be able to let go, and truly express myself with a guitar. Papa and Trapp have taught me how to see and navigate the fretboard, but Tomo is the man when it comes to getting your head strait. Thanks guys!
Tomo has a great personality. Lots of passion! He's always smiling and excited about the concepts he teaches. What an absolute blessing it would be to have him as a teacher.
Tomo is the king of “it seems I’m playing simple things (and really I do), but if you try to do the same you will fail because you are not me”. I love him. He is a Teacher with a capital “T”, do you know what I mean? There are a tons of things you could learn from him and his lessons. He is one of few teachers that all the times I see an his video make me feel like I’m pushed to grab the wood and practice instead of felt depressed because I’m not good as I would. Impressive. Thank you guys
Brett I have learned so much.,after like 40yrs of zep .,Sabbath....I can now just plug and play and it's so awesome ..I started with some guy called papastach and Marty music.....u guys are so awesome...ty bud👍👍👍👍👍👍
Brett - it is not only that you are bringing these great players and teachers to us, it is the excellent questions that lead the guest to give so much more. While you give them so much room to speak, you seem to ask the question I would ask if I were there. Thank you and hope to get to Nashville again soon to see the great players.
Yes totally! Brett knows music, guitar, styles, people so he can connect anyone to anyone! Magic talent! That's why I contacted him before my Nashville trip. Thank you Brett & everyone who are listening this!
I bought a Duo Sonic because of Tomo. It never occured to me that small hands may like shorter scale lenghts and he brought that up. Ended my gear hoarding after 30 years, thanks again Tomo San 🤗
Tomo made John wash his cars and paint his fence. This gave him the foundation. He didn't understand at the time and felt Tomo was just making him do all his much needed work around the house, but in time he began to utilize the skills he'd learned from Mr. Fujita.
Incredible video! I think 35:00-36:15 is the perfect summary and starting point for any of us that know our basic chords, Maj's, min's, 7th's, etc, and can get through a song on our own or jamming with other people but never had the privilege of long term formal lessons. A lifetime of lessons in a 50 minute video if you got your basics down. And it's free. If this easily accessible instruction was available in the 90's I'd be a lot farther along than I am now. Thank you sir!
I've had the pleasure of hanging with Tomo multiple times, talking music and guitar, and he is just such a wealth of information while being insanely humble. Great stuff as usual Papa!
How do we know thats even true. I got to hang out with President Obama one time at his pool. It was quite the experience. Had some good food and some good laughs. Lol
@@israelrodriguez6986 because we live in the same town outside Boston, he’s a nice, humble musician who’s pretty accessible…and your example is of a former president. Just saying Tomo deserves all the recognition he gets. And you should realize you sound like a clown :)
@@FitzyStrings Haha, just don’t get mad. Only messing with you. It’s just that everyone knows someone famous these days or likes to brag about stuff they’ve never done or seen. Have a great day!
I still can't figure out how he makes his 6 chords sound so cool. Just one nugget from my memories of Tomo's classes in the 90s.. He would have pages and pages of every possible permutation of rhythms you could play in one bar and he'd have 8 guys sight reading down the pages together like a game. Of course guitar players can't read so it was always pretty brutal. You have to suffer sometimes.
The word keep it simple I did not find here lol. Although his bending note philosophy caught me off guard. Very interesting approaches, thanks. God bless one and all.
Ok…@brettpapa - I watched the first 10 mins of this video and I’m standing at the crossroads…. Do I Say F this guitar thing SELL IT ALL and go Left? OR go right and push myself to be better? BRB …. Gonna go practice some more!
I’m just picking the guitar back up after a little hiatus. Decided I wanted to try to work more theory into my lessons… I’m 15 minutes in and already have 10+ time stamps bookmarked. Thanks for posting!
plays soft cos he doesn't like to refret hah. I bought a Casino and after 2 years I took it in for a nut replacement, the luthrier said a bunch of frets needed recrowning and suggested I try play with a softer left hand because my wear was unusually fast.. Some players can play a guitar for decades without a refret. I then started playing softer, and I am certain it has also improved my playing.
This video was the highlight of the day with Tomo, thank you! Just one suggestion about how to start being open for the jazz for blues lovers, Lou Donaldson is a great saxophonist and his album The Natural Soul is a piece of heaven. Also the Ramsey Lewis Trio is Amazing too.
Tomo👍

Yep great dude too!
I’ve been following Tomo for years, he’s a fantastic teacher, thanks guys.
I agree! He covers all aspects of playing. Abstract and details.

You are welcome Scott! Glad we could all help ya out!
Ong tho bro, those 3 plus kirk fletcher are awesome teachers!!
I could watch Tomo navigate the fretboard all day. What a legend. Great interview!!
Thanks for checking it out Peter!

Yea he’s quite a gifted musician.
Agreed!
Agreed. It would be a tremendous blessing to be under his guitar tutelage.
Tomo’s playing is SOOO clean. Love it
Yep. Good stuff for sure!
Can't beat it with a stick! The man's one of a kind.
That little wing triad progression will be part of my warmup forever. Such a dope way to orient yourself into triad world before playing.
Oh man, that Little Wing triad melody was killer!!
Thanks for watching Pedro!
That clean tone is AMAZING!
5:11 10:35 12:45 15:44 18:38 23:43 24:48 26:38 28:03 yep we might as well watch the whole thing several times and again.
What a beast man. And so humble.

Thanks for checking it out!
Tomo is as friendly as he is brutal ❤ on both knowledge and execution ,the man earns respect while playing that good. 👏
One of your best guests ever. I learned so much about how to learn so much. Love that part about not squeezing.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for checking it out!

Tomo is a great teacher, player, and an awesome guy!
Yep agreed. Was great to hang with him.
This guy singlehandedly took me out of my many year rut

Great segment, Brett! Tomo knows his stuff, and knows well how to teach.
Tomo is amazing, no only for his teaching, he has that funny humble charisma.😂
Yep! He is great.
Tomo, You ROCK! Miss you buddy. Always love your playing and philosophy (Berklee Alum '92). I learn something every time I hear you. ;-)
Thank you so much!
