Tomo was one of my teachers when I went to Berklee, and he was also John Mayer's teacher when he was at Berklee! There is a cool little story at 6:08 where Tomo said he actually recommended John to leave Berklee and pursue his songwriting career-I guess it was pretty good advice. Make sure to follow Tomo on Instagram and check out his Guitar Wisdom lesson series (links in the description).
Music is Win what an experience to follow a living legend
I didn’t ever realize you where a Berkley student. That was possibly because knowing your background stories and achievements was never as important to me as the the execution of the art. So consider that, I didn’t follow or subscribe to you because of you going to a certain gig. Or because of who or where you learned to work your instrument better. I subscribed to you because I liked how your imperfections make you who you are. And I like to learn from people like you and tomo. If it was perfect it would have sounded like is was robotic or digital. Like a keyboard playing “Electronic Guitar”. And as you know the guitar is an imperfect instrument to begin with. As Perfection is something we all strive to achieve, however it’s also something that wouldn’t sound as good as close to perfection does. (The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.) We actually subconsciously look for imperfections and how or why they eventually come forth in the way that they do. So in my personal opinion your actually a good player in your OWN right. And that’s why I learn from you. It Because I choose to. Not because of your achievements. However on that note I also want to thank you. I actually really appreciate the knowledge being passed on to a poor guy like myself. And believe me I’m hungry for that knowledge. Even if I can’t pay for it. I’ve been playing for years on my own. And I didn’t get to far. But I’ve been hungry for a long time. I just didn’t realize I was getting 2nd hand burkley lessons 😱. So Thank you again. 👍🏻✌🏻🤙🏻✊🏻👏🏻 your awesome for actually letting me learn. A poor city boy with his cheap guitar. Dude your awesome. ✊🏻
Great video as always Tyler, the gift that Berkley gave you is priceless I am sure. I wish I had been smart at a younger age to go to music school, I would not be struggling with it now. :)
@Moe Howard *Boston 🙂
@Moe Howard Thanks Moe, I thought it was like the Berkley fishing line, and thanks for local. :)
Wow!! Thanks so much Tyler for posting this video! That was so much fun hanging!!
Shit man you really good
😂 I was just asking you on your own channel if you were Tyler’s teacher 😂
@@zackhayes1268 Thanks! I always reply everyone! I missed yours?
TomoFujitaMusic no you replied :) lol I was just saying it’s funny I recently asked you like a week ago and now you are doing a video together

No, Thank you!
@@FishNChips no thank you
Tomo you have shaped so many gutiar players into the best you deserve more and all the best in the future 🤘🎸
You my man are an absolute guitar mastermind.
Its not john's teacher ! Its the legendary Tomo as himself
tomer107 facts
Damn right! Tomo Fujita is a big name already.
It should be "Hanging out with Tomo (John Mayer guitar teacher)" instead
נכון תומר מסכים
Is he legendary? I haven't heard of him til now
Holy crap, Tomo's rhythm comping sounds better than most people playing lead lines.
It’s better than most people in general.
He goes from having this very accented english to saying “blues” and sounding like a complete native new yorker to all of a sudden back to
the accent lmao
It's probably the word in English he says the most hahahaha
We would love to see you feature Lil Wayne's guitar teacher.
Mike Tyson's schedule is all filled up.
Bwahahaha
Be there next week. Only person i taught worse than Wayne was myself
Wait... he had a teacher?
His teacher was an infant with a broken hand...
Fujita a legend!!🙏🏻✌🏻
Here you are 🙌
00:07 - 00:27
Now I finally know where John got that type of solo-rhythm-mix which he always plays in his Instagram live videos. Beautiful!
Alexander Supertramp duh, noob.
Thought you said 00:07-00:07 at first had to double take lol
that jam in the middle was great honestly
Tomo embodies the brilliance and intellect that goes into playing the blues. A great teacher and listener. Respect!
Thank you!
My high school music teacher was a former guitar professor at Berklee. Much like Tomo he wasn’t a shred god. I could out shred my teacher, but damn he was full of knowledge. A literal walking music theory encyclopedia; and even though he wasn’t the fastest player he blew me away with how few notes he had to play to out perform me. I guess I’m trying to say that having a dynamic style is more impressive than being a shred monster. Music theory kicks ass!
This video alone really makes me envious and happy that the career you have a musician is really paying off and strong my friend! Amazing content creator you are! Awesome work here!
3:55 I've been trying for a while to get that and seeing someone else do it beside Tomo makes me happy
Tomo reminds me of a mix between a young EVH and an older Jimmy Page.
Lol
Don't forget Jackie Chan lol
@@maxkax9241 haha
max kax racist
Ostensible shut up
The restraint in Slower playing really builds the tension, and to my ears Tomo seems like a master at this! Great video!
Tomo is such a great teacher. I'm so sorry about the family tragedy involving his eldest son.
That bend came straight from heaven 🙌🏽🙌🏽
"Ok, now you have to explain the dynamics."
-Music is Win 2019
I'm blown away!! Your upperclassman is John Mayer!!
Mr Fujita's voice & guitar sounds so similar ( so gentle 🎸😊) Truely a great person... Thanx bro for this video👍
Thanks!
He’s not “John teacher” he the legendary guitar player named Tomo Fujita 😌
He is John’s teacher, that is factually correct.
Bro, you broke my mind for a second. I'm subscribed to Tomo and thought you were a student of his that looked like you!! hahahaha
AND ITS ALSO COMPLICATED BY THE FACT YOU'RE USING A SQUIER
tomo seems to be such a nice person to hang out and take a beer or something like
I wonder how John Mayer would react to this if he saw this
Let's share and tag him
Salatiel Jyrus Tumanan hello it is I John Mayer I like this video
the musical guitar guitarist yes clearly this is not a joke
the musical guitar guitarist
yeah. it was.
the musical guitar guitarist very obvious my guy
Tomo's playing is so relaxing
That part in the beginning blew my mind man wow
A Legendary Jam Sesh
Great guitarists become kids even if they meet their teachers after they become great guitarists, this is the relationship between a student and a teacher. Great video, bro! A much needed one!
this honestly makes me so happy
I love Tomo he's one of the best ever.
Listening to you two is magical.
You have the best videos yet
Wow! I’ve never seen Tomo Sensei this sharp. I always thought that Japanese are blurred
Tomo is such a gentleman.
To ME personally, I can see how amazing you have gotten over the years. And it is, to ME, so humbling seeing you wanting to make your teacher proud and to demonstrate that you have taken his lessons and made them your own. I appreciate your content man! Way to go!!!
I found Tomo 3 days ago on you tube and I am so glad.
Tomo is the coolest guy on the internet and such a great guitar player. Thx for sharing this.
Just listening to that guy play is inspiring.
Master. Love Tomo´s playing and of course he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the fret and music.
Legend...
How often would you see such a great man commenting himself and thanking everyone for watching the video.. He's very ground to earth, really very simple!
Tomo is such a humble person .
Tomo!!!! Hope to see you again at NAMM this year.
What a pair of legends.
I had the same reaction you did when I heard that one bend early in the vid. Masterful phrasing.
Damn I thought he just really liked John Mayer he always posts about him on Instagram.... had no idea he was his teacher that’s insane 🔥🔥
Not for long tho , John didn't need Berklee.
metalheadblues he did.
@@metalheadblues Tomo told John it’s okay to go for your dreams… and John did, look where he is now…
Tomo is so pure
Tomo is such a honest and humble guy
Tomo you've won a follower, great tone and style and BTW great guitar
Thanks!
Easily my favorite vid of yours so far! Thank you for introducing this guitarist!! I feel like what ever availability this gentleman had prior to this is absolutely gone now 8^)
Tomo is the best!!!
He seems very cool to be around 😊
GOD DAMN, never expected this collab
Tom the master of the premade licks
This was really cool.
Incredible Tomo!🚀
I love you and tomo too!!
Great insight, great tone, great people.
Great video.
Wow amazing licks
I really enjoyed this. Awesome to see two great musicians build off each other. I like what you said about jamming without a backing track and learn rythm instead. Good lesson!!
Good stuff man! Amazing dynamics but yet seems soo simple once you guys broke it down. Thanks for that, good take away! Rock on!!
that squier sounds really good
it'd be hard to find one that doesn't
@@Jordan-fg9cc indeed
I thought squires were cheapest guitar you could buy? Like 100 bucks
@@allthingscroatia yeah they are but nowadays cheep guitars ( like squier ) are actually really good quality
dansta1020 FTW Ah okay. I’m thinking about getting something with a whammy bar, should I get a squire? I have a dean vendetta and a epiphone sg rn
3:57 damn right !
Please do a gig togheter so i can listen to it all day
Dude I love to see the genius in learning n ur bends pfff soft distinction
Tomo is such great man, thanks
Ufff, I liked this, so amazing, so incredible, the world of guitar... it's my personal love, playing away on a guitar...
Tomo Fujita is such an incredible person AND guitarist!!!!
This video only really makes you see how deep the rabbit hole gets when "learning how to really play" a guitar... drewl, drewl :0.... .....
Thanks!
The man got himself a hardtail Strat. Rock on!
He is crazy good
Tomo Fujita is an awesome guitar player & professor.
Why do I watch guitar videos in the morning? It always inspires me to play. My neighbors hate me.
Dude I saw Fujita play at Berklee during Guitar Sessions a couple years ago! He's one of the sickest solo guitarists I've ever seen. The man doesn't even need a band to hold the crowd's attention!
Tomo fujita is a beast of a Guitar player definitely check out his music online and Apple Music
I like the jam the 2 had created ..
Ian a very amateur guitarist but I think he's the greatest and kindes teacher in the world. He's love for music is incredible.
I think you're an amateur guitarist ya fool
I love how they still use a Squier, I started playing with fender strays because of a Squier my cousin let me borrow, I honestly prefer the neck feel of the Squier still 😂
HOLY FUCK! TOMO FUJITA HELL YEAH
Awesome video, very inspirational. Thanks
Great video
What a nice dude... Loved this. Will check him out for sure.
Cheers
Wow... I just learned so much in this 9 minute video.. his playing is so smooth and simple and tasty! 🤯
I saw this dude on Instagram awhile back and he is funky af great guy and musician hahaha
My fave video yet. 🎸🎸
oh man! didn't know tomo was your teacher. he rules!
Love those fender squier 😍😍
absolute legend
Can we all appreciate that great tone coming out from squier guitar
He’s so good!!!!
Being skilled enough to play with someone.
Must be awesome...
Well, Mr. Fujita sure melts the butter
Tomo is the master
THE BEST TEACHER
Good stuff!
Tomo’s hands are insanely clear on fretboard..... I mean very clear playing by him !
I would love to just be able to play the backup chords like Tomo
Tomo is a big fan of Hardtail Strat
Wow, that that awesome. Speaking of rhythm playing, I think it's Charlie Hunter who talks about how he also practices playing the drums to help make him better at playing rhythm. Also, you should try and hang out with / interview Charlie Hunter.
8:37 disappointed he didn't play THE lick
Nowhere? ... Yea
Has wall full of high end guitars. Comes to masterclass with a squire.
Actually that Squire is my guitar! I leave that guitar at Room 418.
Not squire really.. it's squier..
Nothing wrong with a Squier. I own one and with good strings, an intonation and new tuners it kicks my Ibanez's ass.
@@Moodo76 same man. My squier sounds so badass, people just look at the price
@@sparechainge all guitars sound good but some just sound better....
