- It was a day of personal bests for me. Until this trip my biggest redfin (perch) was 44cm. On this trip I broke that record twice. The fishing gods were really shining down on me on this kayak fishing trip.

What a awesome video and that's why I love going fishing because you just never know what you could catch and the size
Hey robbie one of the creeks I saw you fishing that you said didn't have any big trout I used to catch 70 cm trout and 40 cm redfin in shame its been overfished
I've never seen a redfin much over 35cm so color me impressed :O That 47 is a Behemoth. On the subject of eating smaller Redfin, I don't much care for filleting and simply wrap them in foil, scales and all with a sprinkle of Lemon Pepper. It's no fuss to remove cooked skin with scales. If I'm cooking alone, I don't even gut them as the gut remains whole and seals itself :) I do the same with Trout.
That sounds great mate. Yummo.
That's why I love fishing because you just never know what you can catch
Love the underwater footage. I know it takes you a lot of trouble to take it....but I find it really interesting to see whats down there where we toss our bait haha
Thanks so much mate. I do too. I find it quite fascinating.
Offishially the most excited we have ever seen you, and that's saying something! A grand day out indeed, and we are superhappy for you! 🎣🎣
Haha thanks so much mate. That is saying something. LOL I do tend to get very excited. Haha
You're having a great year for PBs! Those reddies were massive 🙂 the second lot of underwater footage was cool, especially with the school that swam by! Great video! 😁🎣👌
Thanks mate, you're not wrong. I'm having a ripper of a run.
Excellent Robbie. I learn so much from you. I've been fishing since 1980.
Thanks so much mate. I started fishing around the same time, and never stopped. Haha 😂😂
Omg you are funny Robbie I love how you say I hope I pressed the record button. It’s not unlike me when I park my car and say did I put the handbrake on? So I always walk back …..great video Buddy 🥳
An exceptional couple of big Redfin Robbie. The images of Lenticular clouds are amazing, thanks for the heads up. The underwater footage appeared to make the Redfin look longer and less deep...could that be the way the lens depicts them? Another great creative video from the maestro. Cheers.
Thanks so much Neil. I agree about the redfin. I had the camera set to superview, which is Ultra wide. That is called lens distortion which is common with wide angle lenses. If there were trees on the sides they would lean on towards the centre. Haha
If I set it at a narrower depth of field I wouldn't fit as many fish in, the water would appear dirtier and the fish would likely be blurry.
Hello mate ...
Rob what can I say congratulations on a spectacular video...
I was fortunate to catch a similar size perch on a live bait Intended for a pike many years back on the grand union canal in London.... sadly the fishing was destroyed when they built the Olympic village..the fishing never recovered... but mate when you hooked the second one I almost dropped my coffee... definitely a bloody keeper....
Rob thank you and godbless to all the family
😎🏴🎣
Thank you so much Mike. WOW catching a perch on a pike lure, what a great by-catch.
God bless you all too. 🙏🙏
You are a legend ! We enjoyed your productions. Great story , very respectful, intelligent and funny way of communication. Thank you.
we have subscribed.
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words.
Totally loved this vid Robbie.Congrats on your big red fin.Tight lines from the UK.
Thanks so much Sheena. This was certainly one of my most memorable fishing trips.
What an awesome session, and that underwater vision really great, thanks Robbie. I noticed while passing , in the bus while coming back from Melbourne airport, Richard's venue in Ballarat a week or so ago, has karaoke on one night a week, maybe you can give it try there, mind you I realise it would be a bit of a drive for you though, ha ha ha . cheers buddy, take care and stay safe.👍
Haha thanks mate. Robbie with a 🎤... What could possibly.go wrong?? 🤣🤣🤣
G'day Robbie what a killa day, the old reddies are such a beautiful lookin fish. I cant wait to get on to some bigger ones myself. Order a kayak the other day waiting on delivery, after watchin this it cant get here soon enough. Loving your videos always the highlight of my day to see a new one posted. Glad you plenty of older ones to binge while l wait for the new ones.
Thank you so much for your kind words mate. You will love your kayak, they are so much fun. A bit cool in winter though. Haha
What an enormous Redfin 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
I'm so happy to see you use a swivel for lures 🤣🤣
I always feel like my laziness is the reason I don't catch.
Although.... now I have no excuse
Hahaha thanks so much mate.
Awesome video Robbie! I reckon it would be an awsome video watching you go trout fishing at Lake Eildon in your Kayak. Seen some great big Browns in there.
Thanks mate. The only issue is that it's is a bit cold. LOL 😂 haha
Well done Robbie Great day out and great vid
Thanks mate. 👍👍
Word up Homie! take me down to where the big stuff roam! Great video,Spot 1 me up! I got my biggest redfin in that area we didn't measure them back then but it was about 3lb you were with me remember that?May seems to be when the monsters come out and play. That underwater camera footage was awesome seeing a school how cool would it be to drop that camera in the middle of a red hot bite!
Thanks homie!! I remember that fish very well. We took it to my old man's place to show him. Haha
We went up there with my brother a few days later and I was telling them about spot 1. LOL 😅😅
@robbiefishing word up Homie! You have a better memory than me I can't remember taking it to your Dad's place! He would of said "it's a bloody keeper alright" for sure!
Well done Robbie! That’s as good as fishing gets 👍🎣
Fantastic video and a giant redfin Robbie 😊
Thanks buddy. My PB redfin. WOW
Gday Robbie,
Love your content, I grew up in there and have family in Whitfeild and Cheshunt. Lake William Hovell is a beauty of a place and we also camp regularly in the area, I have to say its probably my all time favorite place in the world. I must admit though I struggle to catch fish there, I do only fish off the banks with spinners and soft plastics though. I was just there in mid June for a fish and some quiet time. Cheers
Thank you so much. I'm with you, I absolutely love it up there. It can be a very hot and miss fishery.
Autumn is my favourite time to fish up there, followed by summer and winter.
I catch bigger redfin up there in winter than I do in summer, and rarely catch anything in the spring time.
what a great catch!!! well done mate! the lake looks quite low!
Thanks mate. Yeah it's about 60%. It's low, but I've seen it a lot lower. It's not uncommon for it to be this low at this time of the year.
Nice Redfin robbie exciting fishing mate
Thanks Mic. I couldn't believe my eyes when that 47cm redfin surfaced. Haha
Hi Robbie, saw this segment last night, with 2 nice redfin to eat, plus great footage of the underwater Reddies, luckily there wasn't a bigger red to swallow your camera.
Last time i sent you reponse message regarding not just fillet these, but to just scrape the scales of them, remove the guts and then pan fried just using plain flour, some seasonall steak/ bbq spice and cook them in butter or margarine. The fins will taste similar to pork cackle, and you don't lose any wasted fish this way.
I was brought up cooking this method via my grandparents over 60 years ago with all types of fish except for some salt water fishes.
I remembered that you said you will try this method and have you yet.
Please let me know what you think of eating fish this way.
Cheers mate.
Andy Kenins
G'day Andy, I haven't tried it yet sorry mate. I must remember to do that. I appreciate the great suggestion, but I am just so set in my ways.
I have just taken a screenshot of your comment in the hope that it prompts my memory.
What a pair of Absolute MONSTERS!!!!! Biggest Redfin I’ve ever seen. Well done mate.
Thanks Glen. They were the biggest that I have ever seen too.
That’s awesome mate not one pb for the day but two they are some truly massive red fin mate my pb was 46 for ten years I reckon and only three months about I got one 50cm that fish is getting mounted and going on the wall great under water video too mate that’s crazy watching that cheers mate I lived every bit of that
Thanks mate. 50cm, WOW that is amazing. Well done..congratulations. Hopefully I can snag one like that one day. I have seen a few photos of them at 50 and 51cm, but not many. There's a lot of photos claiming to be over 50, but only a few with a measuring device in them..haha, but only a handful with proper evidence type photos.
Yeah honestly mate I thought I was snagged until it started to swim off and I’m sure you will get that 50cm one day mate one of the lakes up your way would definitely have a couple in there congratulations on the new pb mate I think you will get bigger this winter
so happy for you Robbie! great fish mate. I snagged a 37cm reddit on a plastic and gee, it was exiting
Thanks mate, and WOW Well done. 37cm is a lovely redfin.
That was so cool mate!
Thanks so much mate.
I bet you are a killa' on trivia nights Robbie😉😊. Bloody nice Reddies big fella. Cheers from The state of fishing snobs Tasmania, where Redfin are as popular here as Carp are there.😉😉
Haha thanks mate. I have always wanted to go to a trivia night, I've never been to one.
I'm a bit of a nerd. My favourite TV show is The Chase. LOL I love trivia questions.
Wow, a couple of donkeys there mate. I bet they would have cooked up bloody well...👍👍
Thanks mate. They did. I kept the biggest one and gave the others to my old man. They were amazing to eat.
Robbie used to catch Reddies like that near Romsey called deep creek back in the 70s.
That's awesome. My dad has told me about the great redfin fishing from back in those days. WOW
THAT is some of the BEST fishing I've seen you do at that lake!
Those 2 big reddies WERE monsters! A RARITY these days!
Amazing HOW those fish knew that camera DIDN'T belong there!
Also amazing all you saw WERE red fin!
No trout, & NO natives!
Thanks UF. There's very few natives in there, but there's a lot of trout. I was hoping to film a trout in the mix but it wasn't to be. I bet the trout are much more wary of the camera than the redfin are.
@@robbiefishing SAD to hear there aren't a lot of natives stocked in there!
It's such a GOOD lake FOR cod & yellow belly & Macs as well!
Tell you what they did a really good job removing that tattoo on your left arm. Those Redfin are just incredible. You can’t stop thinking 🤔 about that Redfin well anyone who has watched this is also thinking about that Redfin that’s an Epic catch 🥳🥳🥳
Wo aw congratulations on the pb Redfin Robbie. Awesome.
Thanks so much mate.
Great video, probably one of your best for some time.
Any fingerlings of trout, going by underwater filming likely comsumed by prolific redfin. Good fishing. Well done on beating your PB. 🤏👏
Thanks so much mate. As the creator, this is one of my all time favourites as well.
That is bloody amazing you caught that size fish in l.w.h. I’ve fished that lake for years and have never seen anything that big come out off there. Well done buddy 💪👌👍
Please keep up the underwater footage I absolutely love it 👍
Thanks so much for your kind words mate. I've been fishing LWH all my life too and never caught them this big. I never knew it had it in it to produce dinosaurs like this. Haha 😂😂
Sensational Robbie, Congrats on your new redfin PB.
A quick question, have you considered adding some fluro coloured paint to the last 6 inches of your rod tip, to make the strike a little easier to see?
Just a thought for bait fishing and canoe trolling vids, particularly on low light days.
Great vid all the same 👍
Thanks so much Bruce. I've never thought of that but it's a great idea. 👍
Wow, what a great pair of massive redfin Robbie! I used to use very small redfin as live bait for the bigger ones years ago and noticed that one of the catching lure you used was actually redfin pattern - they are definitely cannibals.
Thanks Frank, absolutely they are. I also use to use small redfin to catch larger redfin. It is a great technique.
Great video as always keep ‘em coming
Thanks so much mate.
Bloody ripper Reddies! Great to watch Robbie. Years back I pulled some nice trout out of the King upstream from the lake using flys, bait & lures. Loved trying to get friendly with the water rats cos they are such great colours. Another good vid Robbie.
Thanks so much mate. That is a beautiful stretch of water up there isn't it. I haven't been there for a couple of years. I must head back up there.
Good stuff Robbie 👍
Thanks mate. 👍👍
That lake surface. Other than a moment here and there when a breeze put a little texture on the surface that water surface was like a mirror. So smooth and glassy. Just beautiful. Tip of the hat to your PB redfin. Always such a rush to top the PB. Grand!
Thanks so much mate. That lake is absolutely beautiful. Being a small lake helps keep it classy smooth on calm days.
Wait a sec, did I just hear a John Laws quote that then dissapeared after I rewound the video @18:12 "Ish"? That Redfin was fricken huge! Anyway, back to it!
Haha thanks mate. I don't recall quoting John Laws. LOL Is he still alive? He must be getting on if he is.
@@robbiefishing HA ha no Idea, I must be losing my mind ha ha
You won't forget those two fish in a hurry, Robbie. Great video.
Thanks Ross, you're not wrong mate. WOW What a memorable day.
Well done Robbie, some great big redfin!
Definitely a day to remember.
Thanks mate. You're not wrong, I won't be forgetting that trip any time soon.
Congrats on the big reddies, Robbie, and great underwater footage too!
Thanks so much Frank. 👍👍
Excellent fishing this trip. I also did some of my best the last few days.I caught 3 rainbow trout 45 to 50 cm just over 3 lbs each and one yesterday morning at 56 cm and 5 lbs. Using chironomid flies just off bottom with float and no weight. caught them within 20 feet from shore in central BC Canada. They put up a hell of a fight.
WOW they are excellent fish, well done. It must be a great time of the year to catch fish right across the globe. 👍👍
WOW Robbie, those are some proper Redfin, great job🎉🎉🎉
Thanks mate, I still can't believe I caught my 2 biggest ever redfin in the one afternoon.
@@robbiefishing Yeah thats Bonkers
Wow, robbie, they were HUGE!!! and that underwater footage of the reddies were so cool. One of my favourite vids!!! 🎉🎉
Thanks so much for your kind words buddy. I hope you're still getting onto a few fish.
@robbiefishing yeah the cod have slowed down a bit but I've being getting into the trout and I got a 52cm brown in the mitta mitta👍🤙
G’day Robbie. Great kayaking video mate. I do like this type of fishing. Those Redfin were very nice 👍🏼 mate. Love the underwater segment as well.
Thanks so much Wayne. I won't be forgetting this trip any time soon mate.
You've outdone me Robbie. I've just come home with a 41cm/2lb redfin gutted. I'm stoked. I put my success down to your videos and Strike Tiger soft plastics, in this case the Banana Shock curl tail.
WOW Fantastic stuff, well done mate that is a lovely redfin. They certainly do love Bananashock.
Well done on the PB Robbie. Great reddies
Thanks so much mate.
Robbie mate. I gotta admit. I got all excited and vocal when you got got that first monster. Then did it again for the second one! Bloody ripper of a video mate and that school of reddies on the go pro was spectacular mate. Thanks for the pick me up!
Thanks so much Glen. If I was to reflect back on all of my videos, this one is right up there as one of my personal favourites.
I was on a pick me up the night I filmed this I can tell you. Haha 😂😂😂
Well deserved mate.
Excellent your excitement is contagious so excited for you well done the under water footage is great
Thank you so much Pete. I won't be forgetting this trip any time soon mate.
What a honker Reddie Well done fella ,he be a great feed
Thanks so much mate. I ate one and gave the other three to my dad. Haha It was magnificent eating.
Robbie can you do a cooking video on them reds please ❤
I've already eaten these ones mate. But I hope to film another redfin catch and cook soon.
WOW! True monsters mate. What a great session, I don’t think you will be beating that for a while😂. Good work mate!
Thanks so much mate. This was certainly a memorable afternoon..
Couple of awesome red fin there Robbie, great vid mate loved seeing that school of reddies on the under water camera
Thanks Dmac. Wasn't it fascinating. I love.doing that kind of thing with my cameras. Haha
Those fish are MONSTERS! Well done bro 😊
Thanks champion. What monsters. It was Dopamine overload for me that day. Haha 😅😅😅
Good fishing.
I used to catch a lot of redfin around the timber using a Baltic bobbers in eppalock.
Robbie you get me laughing just about every video x
Haha thanks you Catherine, I am so glad that I can make you smile.
Monster! Redfin Robbie, great feed there 👏👏
Thanks mate, submarines this time. Haha
Interesting Robbie, they aren't Camera shy are they, Nice catch and happy eating
Thanks Fred, no they're not. The trout must be though because none swam past.
Bloody pearlers mate, what a great feed ! Well done on the PB. " flat as a shit carters cap" is a saying the old blokes use to say at work ...lol Nice vid mate, loved it ...
Thanks mate. Haha I was hoping that people would assume I was going to say that. LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Stonkers Robbie! Well done!
Thanks so much mate.
Really good size redy Robbie and another one as I'm watching good one 👍
Thanks so much buddy. 😔😔
with the weighted camera, dropping some bait down with it would probably attract more fish I'd imagine
Thanks mate, that is an excellent idea.
Might be an idea to put some measurement marks or a stick on fish measure to your kayak paddle. Great session Robbie. Love a feed of reddies.
Thanks mate, and that's a great idea.
Very nice wild gear lol 😂 camera got to love the technology. Top video mate .😂
A memorable video. Great catching. Enjoy your dinner and breakfast and tea and that's just the big one. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Haha thanks Vincent. I kept the biggest one for me and gave the others to my dad. It tasted amazing.
As Big Kev would say, I'm Excited!!! 👍
Haha I was having a Big Kev moment. LOL
What a monster redfin.. wowwee
Thanks Mike. What a memorable afternoon. Haha
Good one mate 👍👍👍👍 you did get a few trout they were just inside a Redfin 4 fish 1 lure hahahaha
Thanks Cam. Haha very good point.
Very tasty man I,m going to the Loddon next week I should get yellow s
Thanks mate, good luck on the Loddon. 👍👍
Nice fish
wish i could go fishing but it has been raining for the last 3 days
Thanks mate. We would be more than happy to take some of that rain off your hands. It is as dry as a chip here.
Awesome sauce! 1.2kg gutted weight? 47cm. That's a very nice meal for a family. The 45cm would have been a new pb if you'd caught it first but it was overshadowed by that monster.
Keep them coming mate.
Thanks Bruce. Spot on mate. The only reason it wasn't my PB is because I caught a bigger one an hour earlier. Hahaha 🤣🤣
Ooooooh big red fin ! Nice one Robbie !
Thanks mate. 👍👍
@@robbiefishing no worries, will watch it later !
Loved it @robbiefishing ! And a short rendition of the Scorpions, my favorite band !
Awesome fish mate, well done
Thanks Sam. 👍👍
Great video robbie maybe put some hooks on the gopro rope 😂
Thanks mate. Haha If I don't that I would probably hook a big carp and it would swim off with my GoPro. LOL 😂😂😂
That was certainly impressive and anything smaller than those two big ones is probably thanking you for their absence in the lake :)
Thanks mate. Haha I was thinking the same thing. Imagine how many small fish I saved by removing them two. LOL 😂😂
WOW what large redfin. And for the socks would these be great for gumboots when they fill with water also.
Thanks mate. Not really because the socks get water in from the top like gumboots do.
If I want to go fishing tomorrow and my gumboots are still wet from today, I will wear my sealskinz to keep my feet dry in my wet gumboots, but if water goes over the top it's a very wet experience. LOL
very nice robbie some lovely fish
Thanks mate.
Hey rpbie if your ever coming up through mansfield I know some really good spots and you should try boggie creek dam I caught an 85cm trout there
Thanks so much mate. WOW That is a monster, well done. I was up that way last week but I didn't catch anything. LOL 🤣
Excellent Donkeys Robbie!!!! :))) GREAT CATCH
Thanks Gleno. I won't forget this trip any time soon mate.
Monsters Robbie That’s a good Arvo. You Bet my PB By 1 Cm lol, The Big Reddys are on the Chew At the Moment, I’ve caught 3 over 45 in the past month and I even got my rod snapped in half by a Absolute monster on a 3 inch plastic and to make it hurt more it snagged me and got off.
Epic Video
Thanks buddy. WOW It sounds like you've had an amazing run mate, well done.
@@robbiefishingThanks, Hope you get that monster 50 soon lol
Excellent fish mate.
Thanks mate. 👍👍👍
Always a great watch Robbie. Love WH, it's stunning, level looks low. Have you seen any carp there? Or know of anyone catching them?
Thanks mate. The lake is currently 60% full.
I have caught carp in there on my channel in a couple of videos. I've certainly seen plenty there.
@@robbiefishing in your early videos? I wonder if they stocked them in the 1960s there when the dam was built. They did in many others in the snowys etc. Very little way of them entering that lake otherwise.
@@willandchev4251 Yeah mate in my earlier videos. I can't remember the names of the videos, but I was bait fishing from the bank in winter.
People probably took baby ones up there and used them as bait for redfin, that would be my guess.
Good work. My best Reddie was 47 cm. Wentworth Falls Lake NSW.
Awesome, well done mate. Now we are equals. Haha
Great vid as always mate. Wowee what a session! Quick q what boat ramp is that mate?
Thanks mate. 👍👍 That is the only boat ramp. LOL Lake William Hovell only has 1 boat ramp on it.
Redfin TV. Great day out, Robbie! Really interesting thing to do, would love to see some other footage from the deep. I wonder how many others that size are down there? I'll bet that question is burning a hole in your brain now! 🙂 That's a big redfin. Hope you're well, mate. Cheers PP
Thanks so much PP. Haha It has been burning a hole in my brain for a few days since I filmed this. LOL 😂😂😂
@@robbiefishing Ha ha. - whether to go back or not???? So good to get a day where everything comes together - bask in the catching day before you go back to a fishing day!! 🤣🤣
@@mrpoopypants9586 haha so true. 😂😂😂
Well done Robbie nice reddie
Thanks so much mate. 👍👍
awsome fish mate🎉
Thanks Roy. 👍👍
Amazing Fish!
Thanks mate. What an epic afternoon to remember. 👍👍
Hey, mate just had a quick question, I fish two private dams that have plenty of redfin in em and i was wondering if i will still catch em in the winter months in SA. Cheers
Hi mate, winter can be a great time of the year to catch big redfin.
I find that every waterway is different though. Some.fire up during winter and some shut down. Redfin are a very interesting species of fish. Every waterway fished differently.
@@robbiefishing Cheers legend
Should give the cdm bfs gear a crack Robbie!
Do you prefer the kayak compared to being on the bank when you are on your own? Looks like fun.
Hi Mike, it depends on so many things. Shore based it certainly more comfortable. LOL Kayaking allows me to fish in more spots though, including out deeper.
Hey Robbie, sadly all the redfin in my local dams around Orange have been given a virus so I haven't caught one in about 3 months.
Hi mate, that really sucks. I hope you still have something to catch.
Wow Robbie, those reddies made Noah’s first ever Redfin of 31cm look small 😂, it’s always a great night when u post, atleast the reddies are fishing well, on the Murray at Mildura it’s a complete carp fest, I’ve been fishing for 3 days straight dusk to dawn and 1 hit, also do u know what fish is in the king billabong? We tried it today and got massive bites on cheese.
Love u sooooo much Robbie, keep up the great work
Thanks buddy. I love Kings Billabong. I caught a redfin there. Haha I know that it is stocked with Murray cod and yellowbelly, and it definitely has carp in it.
@@robbiefishing ohh sweet thanks Robbie, we weren’t actually sure if it was stocked with yellas and cod, but now I do
Nice fish mate, but can ya do me a big favour. Get some dam pliers. Great vid mate most enjoyable.
Haha thanks mate. I use them cod fishing but never think to take them redfin fishing. I must get down to Bunnings and buy 200 pair of pliers. One for every single hiding spot that I seem to have. LOL I'm forever looking for my pliers. Haha
