    INFO: Damon Albarn is mostly known for his contribution in music through Blur, Gorillaz and his solo career. By looking through his catalog of music you can find an impressive array of genres
    ranging from from brit pop, punk rock and hip-hop to electronica, folk and gospel. Despite having this talent of combining genres with ease and sharing himself through music, he’s also a very complicated person. He’s both an introvert and an extrovert. He has a pessimistic
    view of technology, but still keeps on experimenting with it for musical purposes. And although he’s hesitant to sharing his personal life at times, he still revealed some of his most precious memories in recent times. Let’s take a closer look.

      @@rubywine9487 he's a human being. Yes, he does seem kind of dismissing and aggravated all the time, you have to remember that he isn't a literal saint. You can find a lot of good things about Damon just like any other human being. I just think that he isn't very social, but from what I've seen, he's a good, compassionate, genuine person with a TON of talent. He's obviously well-respected as an artist and a person and I don't know many other people that have conflict with him (disregarding Blur vs Oasis). But yeah he is somewhat arrogant I guess.

    Whenever I mention Damon Albarn as my favourite musician to anyone I meet, they say they haven't heard of him. I mean, sometimes they recognize Song 2 and Clint Eastwood, which are not the best examples of his genius (he originally made Song 2 as a parody, it was meant to be subpar). Damon is one of the most underrated modern musicians in my opinion, and I feel proud to be a fan.

      I don't think he's underrated. He's incredibly famous and talented. And a lot of people still think so.

Most people are so obsessed with Beatles and classic rock that 90s bands don't get the credit for pushing music forward. @@jessica5497 yup, an apt reply, as gorillaz and blur are well known, but he isn't quite as famous as these creations. Many know of blur and gorillaz without knowing who albarn is, especially since gorillaz was designed to obscure him through using cartoons, as well as constant collaboration, giving others the microphone to take the spotlight. I would also add that just because someone does get appreciated, to the point of achieving fame, doesn't mean they aren't still under rated for what they do.
      I think true fans of gorillaz and blur know who albarn is, but many outside of that, don't necessarily know who he is. There are also fans of blur that don't care about gorillaz and vice versa, and then there are some who are fans of albarn that also know he has a solo album, as well as a string of other projects unrelated that involve other types of music from around the world, that most people have never heard of, and even less have actually sat and listened to. I consider myself a fan of his, and yet still haven't heard quite everything he's done nor could i name all his musical projects off the top of my head

    Damon Albarn is my favorite music creator of all time. His works are deeply important to me. Most of his work have this deeply emotional and existential pit that I just can’t get from most creators. Sure, all his songs are catchy and awesome tunes and whatnot, but at their core, they are very melancholic and dark, even the ones where he collaborates with others. I don’t want to say he’s a naturally depressing person - not at all. I want to say that he’s an extremely emotional being, and as closed off as he might be about himself, his music is very telling, which is a point brought up in the video - it’s his way of connecting. I’m just rambling at this point, and there doesn’t really seem to be a point to what I’m saying, so I’ll just leave it with this: this video is very on the nose. It’s deliberate and comprehensive, and really encapsulates my perspective on Damon quite well. I appreciate the video, is what I’m trying to say, haha.

      Hahah no worries about rambling. Sometimes that can be a good thing. Just talking without having a
      specific goal or purpose to point towards. I'm so happy to hear that is music has meant that much to

      never really changed that much from when he started out in Blur. His music did.

    I love How Damon needs to relive experiences at times inorder to sraw insepration to write his lyrics; like he needed to do on The Magic Whip.It's all the more better that most of his lyrics these days feel so...pastoral

    I like to say Damon is somehow my spiritual father. I grew up listening to Gorillaz when I was 7 or 8 years old since my father bought Demon Days and instantly fell in love with such a fucking beautiful voice which then made me discover his many projects which is unbelievable only one man can create so many different stuff and keep relevant. Even though I'm now 20 and I'm into other bands and genres, I keep coming back to him and can't help feeling nostalgic. The Good, The Bad & The Queen is a band you didn't mention but is quiet interesting and I hope someday he will do a second album.

    • @LieLikesMusic
      @LieLikesMusic  6 лет назад

      Hmm yeah true I didn't mention that band. But I had never heard of that band before
      I started researching this video. It's not one of his most successful projects then?
      But what you're saying about his ability to stay relevant and create good music with such
      variation is very true. Looking forward to his second album.

      I'm glad you do! I think some of his recent stuff with Gorillaz is a bit lackluster. But very few people have created

      more good stuff. Cheers to good music taste!

      I agree with you there. The unhinged scream/laugh at the end of Swamp Song alone makes it their best album. But every song is great. No filler.
      I actually live next door to where they recorded the thing, and I remember them going in and out of the studio at all hours of the day.
      So I suppose the album has extra meaning to me for that reason. It's like a piece of home or something.

    • @louis2366
      @louis2366 6 лет назад +2

      Thats amazing, in the blur documentary they say there was alot of tension between band members at that point in time, also i think they recorded it in the same studio as the early Gorillaz albums.

    • @SpaceCattttt
      @SpaceCattttt 6 лет назад +6

      Well, it was recorded in both London and Reykjavík. And I'm in Iceland, so I can't say for certain how
      much of it was recorded here, or if indeed any Gorillaz material was recorded here.
      But I can see Studio Sýrland from my window, so that's cool. Although, you'd never guess there was
      a studio there since the neighbourhood is nothing special. It looks like any residential area, really.
      But once you go inside, it's a pretty fancy place.
      I managed to book some sessions there years ago to record some demos.
      The going rate was 100,000 ISKR/hour, which is roughly 720 pounds, so it hurt my wallet!
      Thankfully, these days you can do everything from home, and using a studio is only necessary if
      you need an expert to help you out.
      As for the band's relation at the time? They didn't smile much, I know that! But have they ever?
      Alex did, but he was drunk. :)

I kept listening to both bands for years and never knew damon was linked to both until I was like 14 lmao I'm such a flop. now I'm 21 and damon is definitely one of my all time fave musicians and he has been apart of my life for so long I can't imagine never having grown up with his voice

    I'm sad that there's no mention of Damon Albarn's time in Hong Kong and how that influenced blur's 2015 album "the magic whip". a highly underrated album (in my opinion their most underrated) and the story behind it is amazing. the transition from their older albums to the magic whip needed talking about. I would be lying if I didn't say I was waiting for you to mention the magic whip. that album single handedly helped me through my move from Hong Kong to the US. disappointed that it wasn't mentioned at all, but this is an amazing video nonetheless :))

    The greatest and most important musical collaborator of our time, he's given so many artists a second chance. Meeting Damon Albarn is definitely on my bucket list...you should’ve mentioned that he refused to play live 8 in 2005 because of the lack of black artists, the organisers eventually got more black artists to play and he still refused... mad respect for this guy.

    • @ablurida
      @ablurida 3 года назад +9

      Probably because they got more black artists but not born and raised in Africa, so his point was still valid that it sent the wrong message about Africa not being able to help itself and Europeans/Americans being the heros 😩

      “After classical music, I got into Motown. It’s a wonderful period of music. even love the Jacksons. And Anita Baker. And even Mica Paris. I love black music and I don’t get to listen to enough of it. it’s terrible how the rock establishment’s xenophobic racist values don’t allow these reference points. You’re not meant to mention black music. It’s disgusting that you never hear anyone praising anyone other than the Stones and Bowie and Ray Davies.” -Damon in 1993

    Loved Damon since I saw him the first time, when I was ten years old and the Parklife vid came on MTV. Feeling blessed growing up watching his talent unfold. He is a clever, thoughtful, restless genius. Even when he started making hip hop ish music, his pure and raw curiosity in sound still inspired me. And the way he saw this whole reality based fame thing years before it happened, and despised it in advance. I dunno, he seems to make a lot of very truthful assessments, evaluating or even just pondering on the world around him. What an absolute legend and true artist.
    England can surely be proud of him, one of the last sensible superstars.
