Well, also musicians literally practice in the toilets before going on stage when it's a festival and there are many bands and yours is not famous your band has not a private changing room in which you can practice. Matt Bellamy shared an apartment with a drug dealer and he decided their band would have never taken drugs like cocaine since he saw the destructive effects it has, so the line could be literally about bands practicing in toilets.

It's a great album name and cover. It stands for Arctic Monkeys, it has an AM wave in cover and the best time of the day to listen to it is after midnight. Also inspired by velvet underground's VU.
The inspiration behind the name "AM" does come from VU. However, it is good to note that while AM does stand for Arctic Monkeys, it stands for Amplitude Modulation, which is a technique used in transmitting sound waves, mainly using radios. The cover art of "AM" actually shows an Amplitude Modulation wave :)
Hearing you say "Brianstorm" aloud was the first time I realized it was called "BRIANstorm" and not "BRAINstorm" as I have been for years. I feel like quite a tit.
I heard their new album TBH&C several times by now and I don't know, "Star Treatment" is good, but then the first half of the album is like one long song until we arrive "Four out of Five" which is a great song, probably their first single, the rest of the album is okay, but the last song, oh man. The Ultracheese is one of those songs that instantly hit you deep and put you a very specific atmosphere, it's like you've known that song for a long time and listening to it makes you feel very nostalgic, at least in my case, I don't know, I fell in love with this song.
I wanna thank you for speaking so clear, articulated and with a decent speed. I have a pretty good English level but sometimes it gets tricky understanding people talking about things you don't know the vocabulary of that well... So thank you. And great video too!!!
Thank you for saying that! I'm glad this was optimal for you in that sense. It's hard to satisfy everyone in that sense. Cause someone's always gonna think i talk too slow, with a weird accent son on and so forth. But that' good. You can expect a lot more of this ;)
Same, I am sixteen so i wasn't around to the release of their previous albums, and I literally found them like 2 months ago, but WOW they are unbelievable. I really didn't think i would find a band that creates my dream type of music. I'm so sad rock music isn't popular in 2020, because i just need another rock album from them, but I guess maybe it doesn't perform as well anymore :(
Dude same!! It’s so cool to see how more people are finding their music through tik tok! Can’t wait for their new music bc they’ll have so many new listeners
Favorite band of all time. Greatest. Just the goat. Few bands have the dynamic they have, listen to the solo section of r u mine where they all trade licks. Only the likes of led zeppelin, the beatles, and black sabbath achieve that kind of oneness
It makes me so happy that this has over a million views. I started listening to AM back in 2007 and it's sooo nice to see their following continue to grow. By far the best band of our generation. Watching them evolve has been a magical journey that I hope never stops!
growing up in sheffield everyone knows monkeys. most my family knows them personally but don’t speak much anymore. my dad went to some of their earliest gigs and still to this day says that the atmosphere they made just felt really chilled out. they lost that when they got popular though.
Arctic Monkeys was the first band I fell in love with when I was introduced to them in 2012. Although each of their albums have brought a new type of sound, their signature in every song is unmistakable. They’re genius.
If I'm honest I didn't like TBHT at first and I was disappointed but I listened to it again and grew to like it. Some people should give it another chance. Now I can't stop listening to it.
can't wait for their new album to drop tomorrow! excited to see what they have to offer after 5 years since their last album. I also managed to get my hands on some tickets to see them in September. so stoked!
Bessy Rein I’m going too! I’ve supported them since Humbug and I’m from Sheffield. Hearing all the places of pubs I’ve been in and know the owners of really warms me because they have been so successful!
sylveter flores I’ve tried avoiding listening to any teasers. I’ve only watched the main teaser trailer but nothing else. It’s been really hard but I’ve managed. So excited for tomorrow😁
Connie Primrose Their previous albums all came out when i was too young to go to concerts and I also didn’t listen to their older stuff then because I was oblivious to it. All I knew was stuff from AM and classics like fluorescent adolescence and I bet that you look good on the dance floor. But now they’re one of my favourite bands and I can finally go to concerts so with this new album coming out I can refuse tickets to see them 😂
I love AM. They have some of the most versatile music I’ve ever listened to and it conveys so many emotions, and gives me so many fantastic emotions. My favourite by far is No.1 Party Anthem cuz of the chilled, lax beat but there are so many I’d die to see live. They are some of the most intelligent musicians out there and they are so creative with their music. I would die for AM.
Great video, AM is my absolutely favorite band. Alex's lyrics are just so magical and real at the same time. Jamie, Matt and Nick are amazing in everything they play. Love them.
I have visited Sheffield in 1974, one of my family attended Sheffield University. I only discovered Arctic Monkeys at Glastonbury 2023 on RUclips. Very inventive and creative, they have a new fan.
i remember arctic monkeys music online for free back around 2002. i wasn't into them then. I fell in love with them with the AM album, finding it by chance. it is my favorite arctic monkey's album and I can easily listen to it from start to finish. thank you for making this video, it was very entertaining.
Alex Turner, what a name. Funny enough I live in Sheffield and live just around the corner from where Alex Turner grew up, I have a best mate of mine who’s actually related to the drummer of AM, and also I have a couple of mates who’s parents taught Alex at stocksbridge secondary school. I always liked to ask them what was Alex like growing up and the only I answer I received was Quiet. Apparently he was a very polite young man and kept himself to himself. Id also like to add he famously walked into a pub known as The Anvil in stannington (Sheffield) one Wednesday afternoon and sat quietly in the corner waiting for a friend he grew up with to have a chat and pint. Overall it goes thru me about knowing Alex was just very similar to me and the rest of us and seeing where he’s come is frightening. I take my hats off to you, from Jonny - Sheffield
Here’s a safe play to talk about TBHC, so I’m going to do it. There’s something special about it. It’s not so much Arctic Monkeys as it is Alex. And Alex exploring himself. It feels intimate, and like a diary of him and his struggles. I will admit he loses his transparency, but now he’s sending this message along the lines “Ive grown. And I hope you’ve grown too.” And really dives into his psyche. It’s a beautiful piece if you’re willing to sit and explore it, and understand what intimate parts of his life he’s sharing with us. It isn’t an album I’d play at a party, or even a get together. But it’s something I’d play when I’m bored and just wanna relax. I love it all, and every part of it is something special. I understand its lack of reception, and maybe even it lacking of praise. It’s something different. But not just what feels like a different type of rock, like how every album switch before hand. It’s something entirely new. And that’s fine. It’s actually great, and shows a new shift in Alex’s life, but at first, i didn’t dig it. Mainly because it was foreign. The monkey sound I loved has changed and it took time to adjust, and some people never gave it that adjustment time. I’d love to see what he has planned next though for AM.
For everyone disappointed in Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino: To enjoy that album you need to actively listen to it once or twice to start enjoying it. I bet most people thought it was boring at first but eventually you pick up the really cool stuff in it. Favorite AM record
Something about your videos just make me feel so creative and inspired! I love learning about bands I already like or musicians I've never listened to before. Your videos are so well made, and I generally appreciate every artist after watching so much more. You do great work!
That's very nice to hear. And that's the point of the channel. To make short rocumentaries about artists you're both familiar and not so familiar with. So i'm glad this made sense. Are there any bands you'd like to see in future videos?
Lie Likes Music Yep i heard it! The album is very lyrics heavy which in a way is a shame to depart from the contagious riffs. However, Alex's lyrics are just unchallenged nowerdays. Feels like a mix of Humbug and AM to me
One cool fact about AM is, even though it does stand for Arctic monkeys, it also stands for "Amplitude modulation" and the wave on the album cover is the graph you get when you plug in the equations for Amplitude modulation in physics. It is really cool to see when you know the actual meaning behind it and also the fact that it conveniently stands for Arctic monkeys as well.
I really enjoy the evolution they’ve had with their music through the years. I find myself enjoying their old and their new music as well. They are extremely talented! Thanks for making this video. I’ve been watching a lot of AM content lately because I’m obsessed with them
I love this band. Got all the albums, and I'm a 60 year old progressive rock fan and guitar player! I loved the dynamics of their first Glastonbury performance and went out and bought all their albums thus far based on that gig. Every album is a masterpiece, for song writing, playing, construction of songs and production. Each album is a progression from the last but every previous album retains its appeal. One of the greatest bands Britain has ever produced. Yes, I also love the latest Tranquillity....... album. They all have a style that fits like a jigsaw. They need to keep making great music.
Wow i'm glad you come from such a background and is open to this. Personally i'm having a hard time liking all their albums, but i really love some of them. Like AM and Suck It And See. Did you like every album on the first listen or did you find some of them to be a bit challenging?
I loved all of their first four albums straight away, then the next three grew on me more as I listened but I didn't dislike any of them. I record and produce as well so I really appreciate that side of their music as well. There is a great energy and rawness about their earlier stuff which was captured perfectly, then as they matured so did the production. It's very difficult to restrain one's self from over producing and a real art form to capture the essence of a band to a recording. People should also listen to the two Elvis Costello albums from the 80s, 'This Year's Model' and 'Armed forces'. They have the same kind of edge about them and are also masterpieces for the exact same reasons as the Arctic's albums. Fabulous songs, fabulous drumming and bass playing and perfect accompanying instrument parts.
Their best period was between humbug and suck it snd see. Fact. The rest are all experimental and contrast from one another, but those albums represent the most poetic and audibly satisfying music they’ve ever created. The lyrics throughout suck it and see are consistently metaphorical and objective; Turner is a lyrical genius.
Quack Quack AM was at least catchy. I’ve watched their Tonight Show performance of 4 out of 5 at least a dozen times now and I can’t even recall how it goes, it’s just unmemorable
I remember waiting for their 3rd album, and having my mind blown when I've heard Josh produced some of their songs. QOTSA is one of my favourite bands, and by then AM was one that I had fun with, Humbug changed the game, it's still my favourite AM album. The fact that they keep changing so much makes me excited for every album they make, this new one is awesome, I call it the love child of Leonard Cohen with the Motown, that has Bowie as a godfather.
They sure know how to mix things up. And i think that's something a lot of artists forget. They just get stuck in their tracks. Humbug? Haven't listened to that album enough to have a firm opinion about it. Suck It And See was the album that got me into the band. But i've spent a long time listening to everything else instead of Arctic Monkeys. Just never took the time to listen to them more closely. But i will now. Thanks for sharing!
Without getting into music theory stuff, the organ in the movie was a minor to major resolution so it goes from mysterious to uplifting. In 505, it stays minor the whole time 505: Dm -> Em Movie: Dm -> G (major) A reason why they still sound similar is not only because they’re in the same key, but also because G major is E minor’s relative major.
I remembering hearing do I wanna know, r u mine and why’d you only call me when you’re high? From AM and thinking I gotta check out the rest of their stuff and I fell in love with the debut album
It’s been a while. But I think it’d be a great add on to this video to talk about The Last Shadow Puppets. Alex Turner is the main singer along with Miles Kane. Honestly I think you see a lot more of Alex exsparemention between albums, especially between AM an Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino
"Do I Wanna Know?" From AM was the song that introduced me to Arctic Monkeys. I have not delved into a lot but i know every song on WPSIATWIN, and several on AM.
Alex Turner inspired me to become a songwriter ... his ability to use words to paint pictures & capture emotions is unrivalled. A true wordsmith & song-writer in every sense of the word.

watching this in their Car era is instresting. Just saw them live last week and they're made to perform live. just phenominal
It may be really old but " I bet you look good on the dance floor " is one of the best songs they've made
Understanding The Last Shadow Puppets? Alex Turner's supergroup band with Miles Kane is super sweet. I saw them live in Cleveland.
Saw em in San Diego
I was in Cleveland at that show too! It was sick when they came out wearing Lebron jerseys hahaha
Claire yeah! Alex wearing the LeBron jersey was the most unexpected thing and they sang "Everything You've Come to Expect" too 😂
AM will never be as good as TLSP, PERIOD.
They completely skipped Texas and I’m still bitter about it :/
Oh, I thought AM meant Amplitude Modulation, used in radio, and the logo is an AM wave, so I thought that’s what it meant but I guess not.
I thought it meant After Midnight
It's a great album name and cover. It stands for Arctic Monkeys, it has an AM wave in cover and the best time of the day to listen to it is after midnight. Also inspired by velvet underground's VU.
It’s not a normal wave tho, it’s a pair of sunglasses
The inspiration behind the name "AM" does come from VU. However, it is good to note that while AM does stand for Arctic Monkeys, it stands for Amplitude Modulation, which is a technique used in transmitting sound waves, mainly using radios. The cover art of "AM" actually shows an Amplitude Modulation wave :)
Their first album is absolutely fantastic. Such great lyrics.
Is that your favorite by them?
Hearing you say "Brianstorm" aloud was the first time I realized it was called "BRIANstorm" and not "BRAINstorm" as I have been for years. I feel like quite a tit.
That's quite an impressive length of time for not knowing that lol xD Well now you know.
I'm sorry what? how did I only got the know this now?
Hahahahah! But I’m wondering how come u haven’t caught on the fact that’s he says: BRIAN top marks for not trying
quite a tit 💀
I also only realised this the other day
I heard their new album TBH&C several times by now and I don't know, "Star Treatment" is good, but then the first half of the album is like one long song until we arrive "Four out of Five" which is a great song, probably their first single, the rest of the album is okay, but the last song, oh man.
The Ultracheese is one of those songs that instantly hit you deep and put you a very specific atmosphere, it's like you've known that song for a long time and listening to it makes you feel very nostalgic, at least in my case, I don't know, I fell in love with this song.
The ultracheese is amazing
I wanna thank you for speaking so clear, articulated and with a decent speed. I have a pretty good English level but sometimes it gets tricky understanding people talking about things you don't know the vocabulary of that well...
So thank you.
And great video too!!!
Thank you for saying that! I'm glad this was optimal for you in that sense. It's hard to satisfy everyone in that sense.
Cause someone's always gonna think i talk too slow, with a weird accent son on and so forth. But that' good. You can
expect a lot more of this ;)
Probably my favourite modern band. I'm hoping their next album will be similar to their debut.
Ned D. honey you got a big storm coming for you it’s literally the complete opposite of that
Lol i hear a lot of people saying that xD
JuliJewls 😂😂😂😂
Captain beefheart!
what a strange thing to want. if you want something similar to the debut, listen to the debut.
Can’t stop listening to TBH+C. It’s so good
I really don't like it that much. But i'm glad you do tho!
Same, u really gotta listen to it a few times before u can appreciate it
They are Rapidly becoming my new favorite band..I can't get enough..2020 me: I NEED NEW MUSIC.
Literally sameee
Same, I am sixteen so i wasn't around to the release of their previous albums, and I literally found them like 2 months ago, but WOW they are unbelievable. I really didn't think i would find a band that creates my dream type of music. I'm so sad rock music isn't popular in 2020, because i just need another rock album from them, but I guess maybe it doesn't perform as well anymore :(
same. I'm only 15 so I'm just getting into them but I can already say confidently that they are my favorite band
Dude same!! It’s so cool to see how more people are finding their music through tik tok! Can’t wait for their new music bc they’ll have so many new listeners
Try Radiohead
great video as always lie, awesome work!

Favorite band of all time. Greatest. Just the goat. Few bands have the dynamic they have, listen to the solo section of r u mine where they all trade licks. Only the likes of led zeppelin, the beatles, and black sabbath achieve that kind of oneness
I'm glad you like them that much :) And thanks for watching!
Nicely done mate! Would be good to see one of your video essays on John Mayer, Jamiroquai or Vulfpeck 👍
I love John Mayer and Vulfpeck. I'll add them to my list. Thanks :)
when u think u know them but then they release tranquility base hotel and casino
yea
It makes me so happy that this has over a million views. I started listening to AM back in 2007 and it's sooo nice to see their following continue to grow. By far the best band of our generation. Watching them evolve has been a magical journey that I hope never stops!
growing up in sheffield everyone knows monkeys. most my family knows them personally but don’t speak much anymore. my dad went to some of their earliest gigs and still to this day says that the atmosphere they made just felt really chilled out. they lost that when they got popular though.
one of the best lyricists everrrrr✋🏻✋🏻✋🏻
Arctic Monkeys was the first band I fell in love with when I was introduced to them in 2012. Although each of their albums have brought a new type of sound, their signature in every song is unmistakable. They’re genius.
this was very informative, thank you. i love this band so much, i can’t even express it
Been a fan for a long time?
If I'm honest I didn't like TBHT at first and I was disappointed but I listened to it again and grew to like it. Some people should give it another chance. Now I can't stop listening to it.
That's great :) I keep getting ads on youtube promoting the album. Honestly the ad
looks more interesting than what the album sounds like lol.
can't wait for their new album to drop tomorrow! excited to see what they have to offer after 5 years since their last album. I also managed to get my hands on some tickets to see them in September. so stoked!
Ouh that's gonna eb a lot of fun! Really hyped myself. Thanks for watching btw :)
Bessy Rein I’m going too! I’ve supported them since Humbug and I’m from Sheffield. Hearing all the places of pubs I’ve been in and know the owners of really warms me because they have been so successful!
Been listening to it for a week now, it's on tpb. It is soooooo different. Its fucking beautiful
sylveter flores I’ve tried avoiding listening to any teasers.
But now they’re one of my favourite bands and I can finally go to concerts so with this new album coming out I can refuse tickets to see them 😂
I can’t believe we could have had 14 more songs of the greatness that is Humbug
Maybe it was shit.

I’m so glad 505’s opening was directly influenced by good the bad and the ugly. I always thought of that scene when I heard the song.
"Whatever people say I am..." + "Favourite worst nightmare" will always be my favorite music combination. Nothing is better than those albums.
About fuckin time.. but at the same time it feels like timing couldn't be more right 😉
Jules Gilmour new AM album described in one sentence
It is all calculated.
Timing was on point yes :) Thanks for watching and commenting guys.
It means a lot. What is your favorite AM record?
Lie Likes Music I like the first two albums equally I guess followed by AM,Humbug,SIAS. Humbug is very underrated i feel.
I saw them play in 2007 and again in 2023. They were amazing both times, 16 years apart.
Great video, AM is my absolutely favorite band. Alex's lyrics are just so magical and real at the same time. Jamie, Matt and Nick are amazing in everything they play. Love them.
Man i had never seen such a good video about AM like this
Well now you have ;) And that's why i made it.
I have visited Sheffield in 1974, one of my family attended Sheffield University. I only discovered Arctic Monkeys at Glastonbury 2023 on RUclips. Very inventive and creative, they have a new fan.
A spectacular band. It impacted my teenage years big time. WPSTIATWIN is still the best album of the 21st Century so far.
Santiago Bauzá big agree
It's up there. No doubt
Facts
I’ve been listening to the monkeys since about 5th grade. I’ll be 25 this year . They just get better and the sound more mature every year ❤️
they actually said AM stands for 'amplitude modulated' which are basically sound waves, as shown on the album :)
Do understanding The Killers
Dan Hincapié omg please

i remember arctic monkeys music online for free back around 2002. i wasn't into them then.
This sum up of the bands career is genius. Literally in love with the author🙏🏻
Thanks for the props! I'm glad the love i have for doing this reached you :)
I love The Mixing For Their Debut Album They Kick Some Much Ass
i cant belive some of their albums are over decade old now, they're truely timeless
Who else got an anxiety attack when the drums didn't kick in at 0:04?
lol
and the guitar thing at 13:01
I learn a lot of thing about one of my favorite band! I can’t wait the release of Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino
Nice video
Roktzar the album is not what most would expect. its very piano driven.
MellinGames every fan knows that already
Ghernan That's what people said after every album release following their debut. It's the reason why they won't die.
TBHC is honestly their best album yet.
Arutzuki I'm not joking, it's the hard truth.
We can feel your passion and the work you put into this. Congratulations, thank you, this is amazing!
Fantastic! Thank you for the positive feedback. It means a lot. Cheers from Norway.
Cheers from Japan!
Favorite AM record
the strokes!!!
Something about your videos just make me feel so creative and inspired! I love learning about bands I already like or musicians I've never listened to before. Your videos are so well made, and I generally appreciate every artist after watching so much more. You do great work!
That's very nice to hear. And that's the point of the channel. To make short rocumentaries about artists you're both
familiar and not so familiar with. So i'm glad this made sense. Are there any bands you'd like to see in future videos?
Lie Likes Music I would love to hear about Julian Casablancas or Jonathan Richman!
The new album is incredible, but it will be divisive
I think so too. You heard the leak? Their sound is a lot different again sin't it?
Lie Likes Music Yep i heard it! The album is very lyrics heavy which in a way is a shame to depart from the contagious riffs. However, Alex's lyrics are just unchallenged nowerdays. Feels like a mix of Humbug and AM to me
There first album was released 4 days before I was born, maybe that’s why I like the band so much
They are rock music’s last hope! They’re the best today.
Thanks youtube for suggesting this and you make something that just awesome! I cant describe it, just flawless.
Yes thanks youtube for sharing my videos haha xD I'm glad you enjoyed!
Understanding The Strokes
yes.
Personally i'm having a hard
time liking all their albums, but i really love some of them. Like AM and Suck It And See. Did you like
every album on the first listen or did you find some of them to be a bit challenging?
Well, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino is.... something...
Hannah! at the Disco
same. we literally waited 5 years for an album that sounds like elevator music
Jace Amaya AM was boring too so no surprise
Quack Quack but it still had something ya know
Quack Quack AM was at least catchy. I’ve watched their Tonight Show performance of 4 out of 5 at least a dozen times now and I can’t even recall how it goes, it’s just unmemorable
Metal Marauder thats not true. i watched the show only one time and i have it in my head ever since.
They just
get stuck in their tracks. Humbug? Haven't listened to that album enough to have a firm opinion
about it. Suck It And See was the album that got me into the band. But i've spent a long time listening
to everything else instead of Arctic Monkeys. Just never took the time to listen to them more closely.
But i will now. Thanks for sharing!
The editing is absolute class.
Thanks. Im glad you liked it
Without getting into music theory stuff, the organ in the movie was a minor to major resolution so it goes from mysterious to uplifting. In 505, it stays minor the whole time
505: Dm -> Em
Movie: Dm -> G (major)
A reason why they still sound similar is not only because they’re in the same key, but also because G major is E minor’s relative major.
Great Work. The Last Shadow Puppets pls
AlexLawliet shadow puppets wouldn’t be good for this because they are a band that haven’t been around long
Smithdog0109 ye but they would have a good back story
I remembering hearing do I wanna know, r u mine and why’d you only call me when you’re high? From AM and thinking I gotta check out the rest of their stuff and I fell in love with the debut album
AM is my favorite album of all time. Literally every single track is as close to flawless as subjective music can be.
After 4 years of RUclips suggesting me to watch this video, I ve finally watched it. And loved it.
The strokes or radiohead
Both of them
yeah or both of them
Radiohead will be like a 2 hour video 😂
The Strokes for sure though lol
radiohead
They are like Rush ... They create a new band sound for each album - That's called true greatness
I can barely get through one song without nearly crying, there’s such intense deja vu and I can’t handle it.
I think the debut, Humbug, and TBHC are the best work they’ve done because they always mature and try something new
14:27 the number “0114” on Matt’s drum kit is the area dialling code for their home city
Hmm interesting fact! Thanks for sharing.
God I love artic monkeys, this video is very well-designed and explains everything nicely!
The new album is so different, there aren't any off the bat radio hits, it's not what I expected but I love it
I need some more time wit it. My first impression was pretty bad.
