My Mum bought one of the very first ep3 type r's, December 2001 Registered. We did the Honda Mac Appreciation course which was brilliant. It's the best car of a good bunch of cars that we have owned. Quick enough to scare the pants out of any passenger.
Always been an ek guy myself used to own a 99 ek before i sold it and got an ek9 (amazing car but poor financial choice at the time) and imo the ep3 doesn't compare to the ek9. Borrowed a friends ep3 for a month when i didnt have a car after he bought it for the engine and it's an incredibly fun car, likes to kick the tail out sometimes in corners which is always fun. I own a polo gti 6r now (shoot me) and it doesnt compare in anyway to an old honda... fast but boring. Something about hondas just create instant smiles to the driver, I can see why you've stuck around them for so long! And why I subscribed here in the first place. Keep it up Adam!

a bonus with the 4 door (not really a 'hot' hatch tbh still a civic tho) is the back seats fold down flat and the space is big enough for at least 2 5ft 10in people to sleep in fetal position so you can spend all your rent money on parts and still have somewhere to sleep

Was working at MSC logistics in Gt Blakenham when these were new. Had about 6 off the trailer every week.
Not sure on the type-r work after factory, but according to the manifests they'd spend around 6 months stored in Cyprus after leaving Swindon.
Turns out it was less tax for Honda to declare them as imports than if they sent them direct to the dealers.
I want that car. I've got a NHB facelift but damn that premier interior is nice.
Also everyone saying the standard EP seats are trash needs to try VAG from the same era. Bean bags have more support.

Good review! I've got a Cosmic Grey Type R which I've had for just under 2 months and absolutely love it. With regards to the front suspension it is so weird but I haven't noticed any bump steer issues with the standard setup. I think it's more of a problem when lowered.
I love these cars, I chose a Mk1 Leon Cupra R instead in 2015 when I had a chance to buy one. Would love too own one one day though.
I own a mk1 leon cupra r as my first car at 17yrs old now with other cars in my garage including an ep3 type r with ek9 type r and ek4 with k20a2 fitted! Easily more fun than the cupra r in my opinion for B roads
i use to own one. always wanted one, unfortuantely i bought one from some dodgy dealer in leicester. My fault really. Blew up the very next moment i took it home.
But for those 2 seconds of driving i loved it.

Mabs Kha by law if the car was not fit for purpose and it didn’t last you within a reasonable timescale then you can .. did u go trading standards..? Did u put an application to county court as it then becomes a civil dispute etc .. theirs so many avenues u can go through, how long ago did this happen may I ask ?

Has anyone noticed with the type rs the plastic on the rivets that hold the make number down! They riveted it on with plastic coating over the plate 😂😂 most people would rip the plastic off after a week or two but unless you trimmed it with a Stanley you’d always leave some around the rivets

Back on topic , mate I bought my fd2 back in December and hand in heart it’s in a different league to other type R models , including the epic dc2. Just my opinion, I’m a big Honda enthusiast and just saying the fd2 is a mighty mighty machine 👌 look forward for when you finally do a video on one and you can see for yourself bud. Keep the content coming , channel has to blow up sooner or later.
Fiat panda has a shifter in the dash like that...basically a fast panda...basically nothing like a panda
The k20a2 and k20 were made here then the jdm one shipped over. Bump steer can be eradicated using either a rack raiser or inverted tie rod ends.

Man, i regret selling mine last year to make way for my m3. 240bhp with the suspension pretty well sorted for b road abuse, the most FUN Ive had in a car, not the fastest thing on the road straight line but I never got out of it without a huge grin in my face. I would of loved to keep both but realistically I barely get the time to take 1 car out regularly so I would have been paying 2 lots of bills to have 2 cars sat on my drive doing nothing
I'm well happy with the M3 mind it's mint but it's a completely different animal. Heavy, powerful, rear wheel drive, quiet, a bit of a pain to work on and expensive to own.

I've looked at and thought about buying something like an m3 or r32 but for me the maintenance cost is rediculous m3 discs cost more than 4 rotors and calipers and ds2500 pads put together for the ctr. I'd love an evo m3 though!
rob foster yep I did the discs and pads in my type r for less than £200 and a oem floating front disc for the m3 is about £170 alone.
Parts from Forums and being able to do stuff myself has saved me a lot of money but it’s still expensive.
Next thing on the list is getting the rod bearings changed and that’s far to complex for me to do so I’m looking at £800 plus for that, when really it shouldn’t even be a problem.

Had one back in the day brand new Jan 2005 had it for 9 yrs until it was written off.. they're definitely a drivers car.. my only criticism is the lack of torque due to the engine being N/A..
Used to hv a ep2 but too many common problems but i want to try a ep3 insurance is too much atm maybe next year

I'm a vag man, Iv got to golf GTIs... ONE is a tuned manual and the other is a stock DSG, but iv always fancied one of these till someone told me the other day that you need to brake its neck to get it going, like literally haft to hammer it to get up to speed and apparently there not really that quick, and to make it faster iv been told you gotta throw loads of money at it and all parts cost a bomb, is this all true
Not true at all. Most of the power comes in at 6k rpm however still loads of power and response even at low rpms.

05-06 ep3 type r premier edition a few changes than the pre- facelift but if you have the money get a genuine jdm ep3 civic type r came with an lsd from factory with an extra 20bhp roughly from factory

I have a 55 plate cosmic grey premier and i totally agree with what you just said. It is just down to a lighter flywheel than your average motor
Update. Got a new clutch and it drives amazingly well
@@suttencheeny1 but yeh I do agree. The lighter weight flywheel does require a little more gas in lower rpms. Once you get it right though they drive well

Front fogs were an option. That slot next to the mirror adjustment is for a coin pocket to put japanese YEN in.

I’m 21 now 3 years NCB can finally afford to insure this for £800 where one year ago they would’ve even offer me a fucking quote.

Ep3 type r ukdm has k20a2, jdm ep3 type r has k20a, ep2 sport is 1.6l d series

I loved my 172 cup but I would choose the ep3 simply for the reliability.
I had a 172 cup from new. It never cost me a penny except for services, tyres, brake discs, pads etc.

Most over rated car absolute bag of nails worst engine made very unreliable cant take a hammering .especially the v tec what u suppose to do before vtec kicks in sit and wait while smaller cars take u over.complete nonsense.
I’ve driven mine like it was intended and had zero problems over the course of 18 months. It has plenty of power before 6k rpm and short ratio’s. Are you sure you didn’t drive a 1.6 Sport?!
