I was spoiled by how nice Freedom of the Seas was last month. The new update makes this ship better than most Oasis class ships. The El Loco Fresh addition alone is worth it. Independence has a Seafood spot where the El Loco is on Freedom. Definitely not the same.

Thank you for your question! Every Playmakers offers different games. On Wonder of the Seas, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, etc. are free to play. Most Playmakers have classic table games like Connect 4, Foosball, and table shuffleboard that are free to play. When it comes to the basketball and skeeball machines, those are at an extra cost. I believe you can swipe your sea pass card to pay for plays!

Hey! Thanks for watching :) Parts of the ship have definitely improved (PlayMakers, Giovanni's, Pool Deck), but it is still the same footprint. I wouldn't say it's a LOT nicer or newer. You can tell the age of the rooms - it seems that only the carpet, bedding, and artwork have been updated since 2013. If you're a fan of the older RC ships, you'll have a great time. It's definitely not comparable to the new, huge ships though. As for masks, everyone had to wear masks indoors whether vaccinated or not, except in some spaces where vaccinated passengers could go without (that meant unvaccinated passengers weren't allowed to use the space at all). No masks were needed outdoors. I wrote in more detail about it in my article here (cruiseaddicts.com/freedom-of-the-seas-resumes-sailing-from-florida/) but keep in mind that protocols are constantly changing so mask rules may already be different! I will say that it still felt like a cruise and a vacation. The lower capacity was a plus, too. We had a really nice time!

Yes! The Viking Crown Lounge is the disco for late-night dancing to music from all decades. There's also Boleros -- the hip Latin lounge - which has live music and merengue dancing. I would definitely ask a RC representative, but in my experience, as long as you handle your own luggage (don't leave it outside your door the night before for the crew to take), you should be able to disembark by 8am. I don't think I've ever been allowed to stay past 8:30am or 9:00am. I always book my flights after 12:00pm and have been fine every time. Have a great cruise!

took my kids 13,12,9,7 on 3 Day cruise with Carnival to Bimini island The ship was old and tired, and Bimini is not family friendly. The name of the ship was not even on the back of it. Anyway looking at taking this ship and Coco Cay out of Miami We are pretty middle class and is this ship worth the money along with Coco Cay?

Do you need a passport to go to the bahamas if thats your only destination. Also the adventure ocean, wre you allowed to drop your children off there if you want some adult time or to go to the spa. & my biggest question is there desingated smoking areas ?
Great questions. If you are a US citizen, you can take a “closed-loop cruise” (one that begins and ends at the same port) to The Bahamas without a passport. However, if anything happens when you're in the Bahamas and you miss the ship's departure and need to fly home, you will need a passport then! Yes, you can drop your kids off at Adventure Ocean, usually free of charge (depending on age and time of day). There are sessions where Adventure Ocean is open so check your daily schedule. Yes, there are designated smoking areas onboard. Generally, smoking is permitted outdoors on only one side of the ship and also sometimes near the aft of the ship. Each ship varies, but usually it's one side of the pool deck and parts of the casino. I hope that helps!

Hello! As far as I understand, at this time all passengers ages 12 and up must be fully vaccinated in order to sail. Before this requirement, you did not need to disclose your vaccination status which meant there were places onboard that were not accessible unless you had the bracelet that proved you had been vaccinated. At the time of my sailing in July, unvaccinated passengers were not allowed to visit the spa, were only allowed to work out at the gym at certain hours, could not visit the Schooner Bar, R Bar, the Solarium, Izumi, or the casino. I'm going in a week and you don't have to be vaccinated to go on the cruise if leaving from Florida due to the governor of Florida's choices. But if you are unvaccinated there are some things that are off limits such as the solarium. You will also have to be tested for covid if you have a vaccine or not prior to bording

If you are vaccinated, and volunteer that information, you will be given a purple wristband to wear which will inform crew that you are vaccinated. Mimi, buying insurance is up to you. Some trips we have bought it for and others we haven't. But with Covid restrictions constantly changing, it's definitely worth looking into. Overwhelming. As an artist, the color combinations and patterns all over the ship are very disturbing and over stimulating. I just had eye surgery and our trip is in a few days…my depth perception is off and those crazy patterns on the rugs can make me dizzy!

took my kids 13,12,9,7 on 3 Day cruise with Carnival to Bimini island The ship was old and tired, and Bimini is not family friendly. The name of the ship was not even on the back of it. Anyway looking at taking this ship and Coco Cay out of Miami We are pretty middle class and is this ship worth the money along with Coco Cay?

Hi, Natalie! As far as I understand, the main pool is always saltwater and is never heated. However, I do think the Solarium pool is heated. And generally, the Solarium area is warmer due to its more closed-in design. Hope that helps! Happy sailing!

Do you need a passport to go to the bahamas if thats your only destination. Also the adventure ocean, wre you allowed to drop your children off there if you want some adult time or to go to the spa. & my biggest question is there desingated smoking areas ?
Great questions. If you are a US citizen, you can take a “closed-loop cruise” (one that begins and ends at the same port) to The Bahamas without a passport. However, if anything happens when you're in the Bahamas and you miss the ship's departure and need to fly home, you will need a passport then!
Yes, you can drop your kids off at Adventure Ocean, usually free of charge (depending on age and time of day). There are sessions where Adventure Ocean is open so check your daily schedule.
Yes, there are designated smoking areas onboard. Generally, smoking is permitted outdoors on only one side of the ship and also sometimes near the aft of the ship. Each ship varies, but usually it's one side of the pool deck and parts of the casino. I hope that helps!
Hi I was wondering sailing from Florida it says you don’t need to disclose that your vaccinated but you may not be able to do all things if your considered unvaccinateed do you know what these limitations are on freedom of the seas trying to find out!???
Hello! As far as I understand, at this time all passengers ages 12 and up must be fully vaccinated in order to sail. Before this requirement, you did not need to disclose your vaccination status which meant there were places onboard that were not accessible unless you had the bracelet that proved you had been vaccinated. Since all passengers 12 and up now must be vaccinated, I don't believe there will be limitations on the ship any longer. You can learn more here: bit.ly/3KJ857z

At the time of my sailing in July, unvaccinated passengers were not allowed to visit the spa, were only allowed to work out at the gym at certain hours, could not visit the Schooner Bar, R Bar, the Solarium, Izumi, or the casino. As always, protocols are constantly changing so things may be very different on future sailings. I hope that helps!

I'm going in a week and you don't have to be vaccinated to go on the cruise if leaving from Florida due to the governor of Florida's choices. But if you are unvaccinated there are some things that are off limits such as the solarium. You will also have to be tested for covid if you have a vaccine or not prior to bording
Hello! Just like Donutsquad5 mentioned, you don't have to be vaccinated if you are cruising out of Florida at this time. If you are vaccinated, and volunteer that information, you will be given a purple wristband to wear which will inform crew that you are vaccinated. @@watchuswander Sailing on Friday and we (fully vaxxed) are required to provide a negative test taken no more than 3 days before embarkation. My daughter (who is 9) will have to have the same test AND be tested at the pier. Great video! Sailed on Freedom 3 times pre-dry dock. Looking forward to seeing her new features!!

Mimi, buying insurance is up to you. Some trips we have bought it for and others we haven't. But with Covid restrictions constantly changing, it's definitely worth looking into. Overwhelming. As an artist, the color combinations and patterns all over the ship are very disturbing and over stimulating. I just had eye surgery and our trip is in a few days…my depth perception is off and those crazy patterns on the rugs can make me dizzy!
