@@FlatlanderGeargood to hear! I see a lot of good features on monstum and always wondered if the glass is as clear as they claim/ is tough enough for duty use
Today, on discount scopes of Tarkov... :D (But seriously: I've been tempted to buy this and the Monstrum 3x compact just because I'm fond of them from that game. I think the PA 3x Micro is what I'm most likely to end up with, but I love to see these reviewed!)
What value are you using for height over bore for the optic? Strelok tells me that at 2.75" over bore, .243 BC and 3,000 fps I can use a 100 yard zero and aim a touch high at 200, circa 4" low at 300, 400, and 500 yards for the three lower dots I just recently picked up this optic when they were on sale for $99. I figured this was the end of the line for the 2.5 prism, and hence the price drop. The reason I bought it was that the subtensions for the reticle are not the same as the 3x, 5x, 1-6x, etc primary arms offerings. This is more of a 5.56 reticle, as opposed to a 5.56/308 combo reticle. To me, it meant that it would work out better for slower .243 BC 55 grainers than those other offerings. And ja, there is a heck of a lot of flexibility in adjusting zero to match slower velocities when the temperatures drop, or the barrel lengths decrease. I also prefer a dot over the chevron, which the older PA prisms have.
Mine is measuring at 2.8. This makes sense for me because my ACOG is 2.7 and this one measures and feels higher than that. My zero is at 50, and my truing is at 300 aiming in the center. I agree as well, this is a strict 5.56 reticle and probably one of the best. Most of the prisms I have so far are circle dots and I prefer them so far. Their BDCs are usually crosshairs for precision but this one, due to the size of the dots, still works fine at distance I think. Like a bunch of youtubers say, the chevron obscures the target too much.
Hey man, just curious about your norm score metric. If you are just multiplying the FOV with the magnification, this is called apparent field of view. There are more precise formulae, but this simple one works. You can use linear or angular FOV, the results scale the same. Your SLX 2.5 here has an apparent field of view of 17.9 deg or 93.8 ft@100yards. Compare that to a TA31: 28.1 deg or a RGII 1-6: 23.5 deg. Did I miss something?
Yes, I just multiply the FOV by the magnification. Since FOV (linear) scales by 52.5 and the angle, you end up with something similar. There are a few more formulas I’ll be using since FOV angle doesn’t always scale linearly with magnification (I.E. Elcan, LPVOs). I’m working with rates numbers and will be testing these numbers on the variable optics soon.
I'll type this again since my previous comment mysteriously disappeared: I really appreciate your channel, you easily deserve 10x the subscribers! One question however, which Monstrum prism were you referring to at 3:57? I combed through their entire website and the closest thing I found to it was a 3x24 "Micro Prism". I'd include a link for the thing in this comment again but I think my last one disappeared because of it. Thanks!

Great review 👍
Thank you!
Good video, I remember when these were popular, primary arms has been carrying the prism torch for a while now.
Thank you, these are still quite cool
Methinks they will lead the charge for awhile, since many companies are trying to jump on the LPVO train as well
I lowkey would like to see a review of that monstrum micro prism. The scores out of that were honestly surprising to me.
I have a few Monstrum Episodes on the way

Been looking for a piggyback but gawddammn is that big
@@hankofthehill4803 yes, it does look big on the 2.5X but the assembly is quite usable
Yes, the $100 price was a clearance price. The webpage for the product states "no longer available".
I mention it in the end. Hopefully it comes back…
Flatlander, have you had a look at any of the Vector Optics prism scopes? Clearly a cheaper option, would love to hear your thoughts.
I have reviews on the way. Monstrum coming first.
I would love to see reviews on monstrum, especially there new cyborg opptic

If it's available with a green reticle color me sold.

@@FlatlanderGear Cool, looking forward to it. The 52.5 gives you the linear FOV at 1k yards :)

1. A “backpack” carry

Where restricted: 16” T/C Encore with Choate folding stock.
