    You got the weight of the TA31 wrong. The weight of one with a mount is right around 14oz-15oz depending on the mount. The acog itself is right out 9.8oz or something like that. Also, the TA31 eye relief and eyebox is much more usable than you make it sound. You At 4" away from the eyepiece on a TA31, you still have the same FOV as a TA33. The point is that it allows you to have a massive FOV when you want it, and smaller FOV (but a still bright visible glowing reticle you can use with occluded sighting or BAC) for closer range or quick aquisition. And then when you want the really long range stuff, then you have the time and luxury to kept up real close to that eyepiece

    • @FlatlanderGear
      @FlatlanderGear Месяц назад

      @@rondobrondo 15.8oz is directly off of the Trijicon website so I don’t think that it being measured lighter on someone else scale with different mounts should be a negative. At the end of the day, a bare TA31 may see a carry handle which is usually heavier than stock and name brand mounts. And I agree with your method of leveraging field of view and BAC at different distances. I agree so much, that it pops up multiples times in this video and others :)

    PA should have went 4x on it to have a little better eye box and FOV, and adopted a T1/T2 footprint instead of mini acog for more flexible and abundant mounting options. Hopefully they introduce a GLX 4x, with great glass lending a much more forgiving eye box and yet even better eye relief, getting rid of the rheostat wheel to make it even less "snaggy" and streamlined.

    Do you have any experience with 300 blackout? I am building an 8inch ar15 to be used for hunting and as sort of liberty rifle. Im getting mixed messages about the affective range of 300 blackout. I think ill primarily use it around 200yds but it would be fun to be able to go out 500 occasionally at the range. What fixed magnification would you choose?

    • @FlatlanderGear
      @FlatlanderGear 4 месяца назад

      I’ve played with it a bunch. Effective range really depends. You don’t have a terrible amount of energy at 500 yards with supers from 110-150gr but it’s still enough for plinking steel, maybe even out to 600. You can use a 2.5-5X quite easily to that distance if your mil scale or BDC will accommodate it which most will for a 125gr doing 2400ft/s or so. The PA 2X Glx is a popular choice as well.

    I love your channel. You deserve a lot more views for your very thorough videos that make prism scopes seem fascinating. What is your opinion on the Primary Arms Gen 1 3x prisms? I saw that the score was some where in the middle but do you think the durability, the improved piggy back mounting system, and the low price make it a good entry level prism optic or would you still recommend the PA micro prisms?

    • @FlatlanderGear
      @FlatlanderGear 4 месяца назад

      Thank you for the kind words. It’s all mission criteria really and these things work out in strange ways. If you are taller with a longer length of pull (stock out), run backup Irons, and want a good piggyback interface for backup or NV, the 3X/5X Gen I are great options and won’t feel front-heavy. Their mounting systems are a lot more durable than the Microprisms in my opinion for a duty/go to gun. If you like the 3X, spend a little time to try and find a 2.5X as well and see how you like it. It’s quick and has good enough glass to make up for losing magnification. If your stuff won’t be seeing hard use, you will like the glass capability and low weight of the Microprisms. There are good piggyback interfaces coming up for those as well that I will be revealing in the future.

Also I do like the balance of the rifle with it in front. But it also feels more like a scope with it in front

    • @FlatlanderGear
      @FlatlanderGear 9 месяцев назад

      Check out my FFP vs SFP video. I would say that if your standard of precision is high and you run a flip to side mount, I wouldn’t run the magnifier in the front. If you have a BDC or holds, they change between 1X and running the magnifier. Also your zero shifts every time you flip the magnifier to the side because your primary lens is in the front vs the back. The image moves, but your dot doesn’t, which means your point of impact is completely different.
