I love Remedy Book Club, great analysis as always... hoping to see more episodes! I'm waiting your comparisons and analyzes with the RCU... this works: - The Twilight Zone - Twin Peaks - The X Files - Millennium - Psi Factor - Mr. Robot - The Outsider - Devs - Severance - The Crowded Room - From
I ADORE Millennium. I am aware of Severance and watched the first two episodes of Devs. Grew up on Twilight Zone. I'm currently watching Twin Peaks with my sister. The rest I have not heard of.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen this movie but I remember loving it! Freddy Krueger has always terrified me the most out of all horror movie killers. I never thought about the similarities between them!
Howdy! This is my first time here, my friend recommended this me. I gotta say I really enjoyed the comparison between New Nightmare and Alan Wake 2. New Nightmare is my favorite of the Freddy Films so it was a pleasant experience to watch this. Funnily enough as a kid I always thought that New Nightmare Freddy was secretly Deimos of the Greek Myths considering he's an ancient entity and the greek architecture in the film.
You have mentioned the book house of leaves in previous videos around the oldest house in control. I think it would be a great piece of media to go over in this
I fully intend to cover House of Leaves in this series. After I reread it and figure out how to make the video. I want to make it as trippy in the editing as the book is
Thanks! Great analysis as always! I wanted to add that at the end of the film Freddy became the part of the story along with Nancy. 90% of the film he is more dangerous and scary than his movie variant, but then he became a goofy villain like in the script. At first I didn't like the change of tone, but then I realized it was intentional.
I may have already recommended it, but Dark City (1998) has some fantastic parallels! Spirals, darkness, memory... I won't give anything away, but yeah, there's a lot there. Definitely watch the director's cut, though. There's a voice over in the beginning of the regular version that gives away the whole plot twist (producers thought the audience would be confused 🙄)
I remember seeing Dark City years and years ago with a friend. I remember being really impressed with it but I cannot for the life of me remember anything about it lol.
Once in a while, you say things that seem like keywords. You said "far older than Freddy". This reminds me of Barbara saying " im much older than you" to Alan, and Essej saying "Im much Wilder than you" to Jesse.
@@GamingUniversityUoG It's crazy I watched episode 44&45 yesterday "The fourth horseman" and "the time is now" and today was that huge earthquake in Taiwan, for context in episode 44 peter told frank that there is going to be an earthquake in Seattle at 4:21 AM so he would believe the millennium group once and for all, a forecast of the future. such a coincidence
@@kogami-masterofcoin9932 Frank Black, one of the best characters Carter ever created. No spoilers, but just be warned, the 'official' ending to the show is an honestly subpar episode of the XFiles. Frank deserved better
Speaking of Villains Being watered down over time, have you seen what Disney did to Ursula in the New Little Mermaid cartoon, she went from being the persons that parents tell their kids to say away from to fun aunt that the kids want to hang out with. WTF.
It seems to be a big thing in media in general. I mean Wicked starter off a huge trend in redoing a Villain's backstory to water them down. An irredeemable Evil character is perfectly fine. Great example in recent animated films is Jack Horner in the latest Puss in Boots film.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Yeah, I don't mind Anti-Villains, I tend like people who are heroes in their own mind watching them downfall into a spiral of dark and or bad choices where they are obviously the bad by the end even if they win. I don't like the whole they are misunderstood misfits the whole time who just need a chance to show they are good.
I remember Friday IX showcased Freddy coming back from Hell to claim Jason's mask if I remember correctly. The ending scene. That setup the Freddy vs Jason scenario.
When I saw the 7th Nightmare movie I was too young to understand it. As a fan of the franchise I really hated it. The truth is that I was not ready for it. The movie was beyond me.
Growing up my favorites with 4 and 5 mostly because I had a crush on Lisa Wilcox [Alice]. Plus the moment they got into dream manipulation in 3 was really interesting to me. But as an adult the seventh one remains my favorites because of how well structured it is.
17:54 Well, already comment it...but, this is the part of the video when you ask so...Ernesto Sabato's novels. The tunnel. On heroes and tombs and Abaddon The Exterminato...focusing on Abaddon which is a meta-narrative in which Sabato is himself and a character written and confronted by the character from the previous novels - nightmares
I was watching an anime and it made me think a lot about Remedy and the book club. Undead + Unluck has a lot of similarities to the Remedy Universe like artifacts being similar to Altered items, the world is on a loop and even resonance.
You know that whole eldritch abomination and essence thing? For some reason I'm thinking of sweet baby inks involvement in 2 Allen wait 2. And what they did is kind of fitting in a way. They're like the elder abomination that basically comes into a world and tries to change it in horrible ways for its own pleasure or reasons.
I think you should do a Video on Dave Made a Maze as well since it explores the concept of creativity and what it means to make or even finish something as a creative
You should look at the new Alone in the Dark remake, the story is a little disjointed but there are references to Lovecraft as well as a few things that seem similar to Alan Wake.
I think I mentioned "In the Mouth of Madness" by John Carpenter starring Sam Neill. For everyone who is interested, it's about a horror writer going missing and Neills character is told to search for him. A lot of lovecraftian elements, fiction becoming reality, the end of the world, cults worshipping the writer ...
Related to this meta narrative. I twerk to Sam asking if he knows about the Argentinian writer Ernesto Sábato and his 3 novels. Do you? The tunnel. On heroes and tombs and Abaddon The Exterminator
OH GOD I WAS WAITING FOR ANOTHER REMEDY BOOK CLUB... I just finish reading the previous book recommnedation and fuckin loved it
Haha glad you enjoyed it! Next one after this will be another book as well as soon as I finish re-reading it.
It also has similarities to In the mouth of madness.
Definitely have that one on my list too.

How I read him at the end was more that the Entity was having fun parodying Freddy. Once officially in the role it was having a good time.

Haha it gets pretty cheesy at the final battle, I'll admit that
can't wait to hear your thoughts on DARK. the amount of folks who ive known who bounce off of it because of subtitles is astounding.
I'm currently working on Twin Peaks with my sister and after we are watching Dark together. She has been pushing me into it for a while.
@@GamingUniversityUoG No BS Dark is one of my favorite Time Travel stories, coincidentally enough up there with Quantum Break

4:16 In real life Robert Englund has said he's had nightmares about Freddy.
Doesn't surprise me
Beautifully done as always. I'd not have ever thought to connect Craven and Lake--blew my mind. ✨
This film in particular feels so similar it is kind of nuts. Wonder if there is an Overlap somewhere between these two.
In the New Nightmare universe Freddy vs Jason and the 2010 remake were probably made like in the real world keeping the being trapped as Freddy.

Excited to see Sphere in the book club. Horrified it might be the movie and not the book.
We are reading the book right now. I havent seen the film. Plan to watch it with everyone once we finish the book.
The only reason I’m not going to watch this series as it airs is because I need to see the source material first
I fully support this decision! Enjoy
Do you think Alan's comment on wishing to be more involved with the film's is Sam Lake's feelings on the Max Payne film/Rockstar's sequel?
Movie almost definitely, Max Payne 3? I'm not so sure as he was consulted at least
Almost certainly related to the movie
