What I think happened here is someone in their team has gotten scared that their boss will be upset that their characters will be used to make money for someone else and they will get in trouble, they then begin to threaten Brendan to scare him into not using the footage he has taken. Chinese are very authoritarian and they will be very scared about how much trouble they will be in (rightly so this might effect their families) they also think that we are scared of authority but fail to realise that they have none in this situation. They apparently didn't leave because they needed the piano for filming a skit or commercial. They didn't want someone to film what they were going to film and produce it before they had a chance to produce it. If they explained this to Dr. K, he would have surely respected their wishes. Instead, they only told him not to film them, nothing more. Maybe it was miscommunication caused by a language barrier and cultural differences. At last one of them is fluent in English and understanding of Western customs, so I don't know.

One point that I would like to add, is people from Mainland China will not challenge the CCP (which likely equal to the government), what the situation become totally different when they are in other countries. They will imagine that they have several rights and they are protected by laws which they imagine it should exist, however it doesn't. When someone points out they are not privileges, what their usual response is using the concept "Racism" or "Insulting China" to defend their imagination, but not admiting their mistakes.
