I'm Fijian and I never like to blow our own trumpet, as it were, but being a bit of a global wanderer, and after watching yr wonderful thought provoking vid, I recall on one of my Tours of Duty (Operation Iraqi Freedom in '04) at a US Army base, after a hefty lunch courtesy of Uncle Sam and KBR, about 4 of us Fijian boys doing Close Protection were hanging out waiting to Mount up again. A US 4 star General walks past with his PSD team. He stops where we were and asked where we were from. After learning that we were Fijian, he said "What the *expeletive* are you guys doing here? If I was from Fiji, I would never leave !!" I quite liked the purpose of Naqaqa as being a place of healing. Especially in a hurting world that gets increasingly fragmented on so many levels. Beautiful place you have there. I am jealous. #Respect
Without the Native Fijians, the Spirit of joy and the Living land would not be able to smile on all those who Visit to heal. May the Fijians always be blessed and thrive in return for their actions of love and hospitality.
My beautiful old Savusavu, the Hidden Paradise. After years on YT then stumbling on it, brings back many memories of years ago and so emotional as well as seeing the changes, my small town has gone through. Vinaka for the video.
I am "Fijian" and after viewing this inspirational and touching video I have come to realize how most times we take things for granted here in Fiji. Fiji is a beautiful country and Naqaqa is an existing proof of such beauty and how Fiji is the way the world should be....so much respect to the Naqaqa Family....I love the composition of this video and the true essence that it has captured of our beloved land that we have lost in most parts of Fiji....I didn't know who you were Mr Gary Yost and after watching this video I am so convinced that we need more people with such positive vision in our world today. From the bottom of my heart , thank you for showing us how life could be lived..Vinaka Saka Vakalevu...ps: the simplicity on the selection of songs to go with this amazing video just makes it so unique....being a music teacher in Fiji's leading private school and hearing these old tunes as supporting tracks is just so touching....if you could write a poem about the piece of heaven on earth I would love to help compose a song about "Naqaqa", the world should know about your beauty...Vinaka
+Wainiviti Wananavu! Your words make me very happy. Hope you've seen the other films in this series and there are more to come. If you haven't seen them yet, check these out: ruclips.net/video/dWPnsB1K0JA/видео.html
For me, someone married into Fijian culture thanks to my lovely wife, and being in the UK these days away from my beloved Fiji, I find Gary's videos a real touching media for me that re-remind me of what is really important in life. I want people around the world to watch them because they will hopefully share just a little of the Fiji spirit that is forever in my system now and so special to me :)
Watching this at 2am and I'm bawling! This is so beautiful and as a Fijian, I appreciate this so much! The love, the community, the smiles, it's what we're all about or hope to be about 💖
The Fijian Govt, NLTB, GCC, Tourism board n others should encourage and help villages around Fiji especially in rural n remote areas to set up their own resorts like Waya n Botoira in the Yasawas. I have stayed there myself n have found it to be a true experience of Fiji that a corporate STERILE hotel or resort just simply cannot provide. It also gave us the amazing feeling of knowing that every dollar spent was going DIRECTLY to the village. Im sure there are others in Fiji now, like small "home/village stays", but the major chain hotels will sure be in the govts ear in not encouraging the concept as its going to definately affect them. Theres also a growing n very discerning traveller thats conscious of low impact, true Fijian experience n BEST use of their spend. Theres also an expanding Fijian diaspora around the world that would nostalgically appreciate the true village experience. I strongly believe this concept would be great for rural n remote areas as it would give them economic viability n provide long term employment n entrepreneurial opportunities to the villagers, especially the educated youth. Whats happening in Malolo n other insensitive, disastrous resort developments is a CRIME against the local environment and are VERY patronising towards the villagers, not to mention the money flow out of the area n country. So, PLEASE 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 all you other potential travellers out there, support local village owned n operated stayz n if not DEMAND that of the Govt or tourism authorities ! 🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🌴🌴🌴😎😎😎🌺🌺🌺🏝🏝🏝
