Wow, Matt! You knew about the Beatles before Elvis!! Thanks to having an older brother I was aware of Elvis in the late 50's, early 60's. I was 12 when I first saw Viva Las Vegas and really fell for Elvis when I saw that movie. And of course I was fortunate to have seen him in Vegas in 1973, a very cherished memory. Speaking of the Come Back special, that night my brother with friends went to Elvis's home in Beverly Hills and after the show was over, Elvis came out to talk to whoever was there! I have a photo of him with Elvis. Boy, was I pissed he didn't take me with him! He never heard the end of it. You showed a lot of great albums which we had. Can't believe Elvis would have been 90! He and I are fellow Capricorns. My birthday is 4 days before his! Thanks for the fun video. TCM will be showing Elvis films all day tomorrow in honor of his birthday. Cheers and Happy New Year!

I was immediately hooked although I had become a Beatles fan meanwhile. But I‘ve loved him ever since. Greetings from Berlin, Harry (also love Such A Night - Elvis Essential Vol. 6, and Today. I knew of Elvis and a few of his songs, but I didn't buy an Elvis album till 1990. I got that Elvis NBC comeback special album on CD, plus "Golden Records, Vol. 1" and a good comp called "Elvis '56". Similar to your "Rocker" LP. But, my favorite is the "American Sound 1969" compilation. It has most of the takes from the "From Elvis In Memphis" sessions, plus the songs which were singles and others used for later LP's. The "Elvis Country" sessions are great as well. I like the "Elvis Now" comp. And the "Elvis At Sun" CD is great for "The Sun Sessions". My favorite live albums from Elvis include his great summer 1970 run in Vegas. Some amazing performances there. As captured in the "That's The Way It Is" album and movie. I think that movie is his peak as a live performer. Aside from John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley is my favorite solo music artist.

Maybe cause my parents liked his movies (there would always be an Elvis week on one TV channel or another in January during his birthday and in August during the week he passed). My folks weirdly enough only owned 2 albums: The soundtrack to Blue Hawaii, which my brothers and I played out - love that album - and the first Gold Records collection - which was played out WAY before Blue Hawaii). Also my Mammaw played his Christmas album every single Christmas until, well, she couldn't anymore so we played it in her absence. I still play his holiday music (bought the Christmas boxset that unfolds into a replica of Graceland at wintertime). That 1969 Year In Review album is fantastic! I have it on CD and, like you said, it has the best mixes of those songs I've come across. if you listen closely on those mixes you can hear a young Ronnie Milsap belting harmonies. Needless to say I do enjoy the movies for what they are. Could they have been better? Yes. Were ALL of them necessary? No. But we have them so I'll enjoy them. One last thing - August 16, 1977 was the day Elvis passed as well as the day my youngest brother was born! So we got both good news and bad news on that day. Thanx for the post, Matt. Never really thought of them in that way, because they seemed so young and hip. Now all of them would have bad hips.....

Maybe a tip for the near future: amazon Belgium has decreased the price of 2 Beatles Lps from 30 to 22 euros: "Help!" and "Rubber Soul"! All the others are still at full price. Maybe something's coming out soon? (but maybe not!😉)
