OH MY Martin is 80 I cannot believe it But looking at the release of Judge John Deed That was aired just over 23 years ago and he was SEXY then Martin in the Professionals Doyle was for me He still looks amazing So sexy now 🏴🏴❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@ growing up in the 70’s when the BBC was at the top of their game we had such amazing, groundbreaking ‘gritty’ TV series. I include ITV as well. There were no warnings on anything like there are for the woke, snowflake generation today . I watched them all like The Sweeney, The Persuaders and The Protectors with my parents🙏🙏🙏 I always thought Martin or Tony Anholt I’d have gone out with them both or fall weak at the knees ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰
In that tremendous anecdote about improvisation and mumming, Bert Palmer who Martin references is best remembered as deaf Uncle Stavely in Peter Tinniswood's 'I didn't know you care' with his catchphrase of 'I heard that ... pardon?'
Wow, dear Martin 80...yes 70 is weird...bring on 80...if it's also weird...love the hair darling, very moody and gorgeously white... George Gently...and way back The Professionals...thank you for hours of pleasure...very best 2025 x
@@marynafalck5502 Adam Dalgliesh is easily my 2nd favourite role of his. He is so cute in it - very professional in his job, but awkward and bashful when talking to Emma. I only regret that they didn't do more with the poet side of the character in these movies.
I think Martin himself mentioned in several interviews throughout his career that everyone always wants to talk about the Professionals, as if he has never done anything else and that he felt it diminished all the things he'd done afterwards. This host had him on so often, I guess he knows by now that Martin isn't crazy about talking Pros yet again. I guess most of us younger fans know him as Inspector Gently. I watched the Pros now, just to tick more stuff he did off my list and I like Doyle, but Bodie is massively going on my nerves! Also there's plenty of stuff (interviews, articles, background info) about that series, while I haven't found a single interview mentioning my personal favourite character of his (Sir Charles from Poirot - now that's a dreamboat of a man!❤)
Maybe there’s a bit more to an 80 yr old veteran of film, TV and stage. You may love the professionals (I do too, til I die), but he doesn’t have to. I’m certain he’s heartily sick of it.
@Kate-lk6tw True but must think of his fans, and also if Martin was not Ray Doyle, would he have got forgiven the other roles after PProfessionals. Also showing Professionals is a great memory to the late Lewis Collins and Gordon Jackson 👍😁
@LeeJohn70 I think he thought plenty about his fans when patiently answering questions about that series for so many decades. He is clearly here to talk about his new play. He is almost 80 and still active on stage, that is remarkable and we should be glad that he is still here with us and thriving! I'm so grateful for how much content we got with him in this interview and I for one am happy that they didn't make it about the Pros again (I'm a fan too and I have very different preferences, when it comes to his roles, but will enthusiastically watch anything new that comes my way!). It's a fun show but really not that interesting and at his age he doesn't really need to get bullied into 'survivors guilt', just because he is alive and well while others have passed on. Also I don't know if you have noticed: at the very end he compliments the cocktail guy who then replies something like 'one could almost say I'm a professional' and you see how Martin's face falls at that attempt of a joke (which I didn't even think was that bad). THAT'S how fed up he is with this series!
@@MyDaisy66 Wow 😳 I can ...see where you're coming from..? Julian assange is 53 now Martin Shaw is coming up to us 80th on January 21th.. I find that a compliment to Martin Shaw 😊

Never mentioned The Professionals
@@royferguson2297 yes and thank goodness for that! Which one of us would like to constantly be reminded of our bad hair days? 🤭
What I found disappointing was that there was no mention of The Professionals. That show put Martin on the Map. Very sad.
