Turns out the ritual that Damian Daark performed on Robin didn't give him any powers or anything, it just summoned a bandana from the netherworld. It was late, all the stores were closed, and Daark didn't want to wait a day just to run out and pick up a bandana.
Using dark otherworldly powers to get clothing without having to pay for it. Truly Daark is diabolical :p
“Missed story opportunity of Batman suplexing Vince McMahon.”
Now THATS something I’d love to see.
I don't know...Vinny Mac ain't doing the job and Batman won't do the job so all I see is big power moves and a whole lot of no selling, brother! 😂
I don’t know how “late” this episode is, but the new Stan Lee documentary comes out on Disney+ Friday. Therefore this episode landed perfectly and is not late at all 😊
Well Linkara the character uses magic so he can be considered a wizard, and a wizard is never late, so...
@@myriadmediamusings Except Linkara says he is late all the time.
Who's more trustworthy, Gandalf or Linkara, I wonder
@@Bladezer3000 maybe linkara is Gandalf
@@adamntcaponewholikesbigcoo1749 Well he wears blue and believes most in the Blue Lantern color of hope...Linkara was one of the Blue Wizards this whole time!
Considering we had to give up an entire month back in November with no Secret Origin stuff, plus all the other canceled videos and fall behinds, I'm pretty sure were like 2 and a half to 3 months behind schedule when it comes to some stuff.
Linkara, he'll get the videos out. Eventually. LOL.
I've got to say, that "robin" that keeps showing up really looks a lot more like a cardinal.
Just Imagine... the artist was too lazy to check Wikipedia to find out what robins look like.
While it almost certainly is an art error, I think it is more fun to think that the people that named the kid Robin just didn't know anything about robins beyond, "they are red right?" And they passed that lack of knowledge down to Robin.
Turns out he was actually destined to play for the Cardinals but mistook the omen.
That was my first thought too.. "that bird doesn't really look like a robin" :'D
“Batman doesn’t like Unfinished Business.”
Unfinished Business being the name of a rock band in this universe. Even with Stan Lee writing Batman, some things never change.
And their music videos are on VHS not BetaMax.
@@giladpellaeon1691 Said VHS tapes produced by this universe’s One Face!
Suddenly Damien Darhk being a cult leader with magic powers in the Arrowverse makes sense. They got the idea from the Just Imagine Stan Lee universe and merged him with Dominic Darrk. Kinda explains why Arrow season 4 was...weird and why he was more fitting for Legends of Tomorrow. Wonder if Stan Lee was consulted or at least given any royalties for it, along with Devin Grayson, Mark Buckingham, and Joe Kubert.
The choice to include Robin in the Just Imagine series is interesting, considering that Stan usually likened the practice of kid sidekicks to child endangerment. Maybe this Robin's "edgy loner" persona was his way of subverting that?
Or maybe he felt that by making Robin an adult, he was fixing that?
Stan hasn't really avoided 'teen heroes' as much as 'sidekicks.' Spider-Man and the initial run of X-Men were all young after all. His issue seems to be more that when it's the kid making a choice it's one thing, but no adult should actively be trying to put a kid in danger. There's a reason Peter in High School starts as 'Spider-Man' after all. (Never mind youthful hubiris playing into his origin.)
That is what I suspect yes. If so then good effort - but the concept of Robin is so deeply tied to Batman that it’s hard to divorce them
To be fair I think stan only had a problem with the older person and underage subordinate dynamic of kid sidekicks 12:33
@keirgomcginlay2044 the man wanted to rebel the sidekick handicap altogether with Spidey, makes sense here.
I get that Robin finally realizing how much of his life was him getting used and tossed around like a puppet in a community ventriloquism class might make him reluctant to trust other people, but I wonder if the execution could have been handled better. Like, maybe he and Batman could set up a line of communication to trade info. Just as an example.
Kind of weird that this version of Robin is more in line of Jason Todd. An orphan who lived in an orphanage that is run by an evil organization, had a run-in with Batman while he was committing a crime, has a chip on his shoulder due to his upbringing, and became vigilante to separate himself from Batman.
Damian Darrk: Remember our dark oath: I sing whenever I sing whenever I sing.
Gotta admit its a little surprising to see JISL Robin given how all the others have been the big standalones and not any of the ajacent family members. Makes me bummed we cant see Stan's take on some of the other stuff like Nightwing, Supergirl, or the other colored Lanterns.
Star Sapphire did show up as a in the JLA backup story. Green Lantern fought her. I kind of wish Sinestronhad appeared too.
Seeing Nightwing and Supergirl and other sidekicks and family member could’ve been interesting, but it probably would’ve required a longer series. Which I would’ve loved, but that’s not how it worked out.
''You can draw a robin, right?''
"sure...its red..I think?"
Classic Bucky Barnes was pretty much the "Robin the Boy Wonder" in the Marvel Universe.
He predated robin, didn’t he?
@matthewbane7839 I think Robin came out in 1940
@@SavagewolverBucky predates Stan Lee works
You know, I'll give the Gang behind the "Just Imagine...." Series credit, it was a very interesting take on the DC Universe. Stan took a bunch of old and little known DC Characters and made them into a very neat supporting cast and a really Decent Rogue's Gallery got the Big Named Heroes he was messing with(fer instance: Handz was originally a Villain for The Original Cowboy Vigilante). It's just kinda sad that some of Stan's ideas didn't hit the mark he was looking for(Robin here, for example)....
And then Robin became like half a dozen heroes later on the line. Even became Atom… and in 2022 they confirmed that’s still canon.
I only remember him turning into a villainous version of Hawkman and then the Atom (antiheroic but the most morally good of his incarnations, and joins the justice league)
Loved the two pride cyber mates in the background.
It’s weird that Robin doesn’t want to become a comic book teenage sidekick when the whole concept of sidekicks came from… well, Batman and Robin. One of those meta fictional questions those sorts of quotes lead to, maybe Robin read the Gray Ghost growing up?
So Stan Lee's Robin is basically Kung Fury, neat.
I know I've said it before, but it still stands: I really, REALLY like this Series of Comics.
So do I! I find the concept really fun and I like seeing alternate interpretations of these heroes^^
With the thief aspect I'm surprised they didn't lean into the Robin Hood origin of Robin's name.
I remember Stan Lee stating that Comic Book should be all one word, so it's not surprising to see it written as such in a dialog balloon.
Another change for Salden's origin I think should be regarding his motivation. Instead of merely fighting against crime, poverty, war, et cetera, purely to advance Earth's space technology and capabilities so he may eventually return to his homeworld, he remembers Lyella's lifeless body and his inability to arrive home in time and thus save her from Gundor Gorrok. He will fight for the defenseless and weak to prevent others from experiencing his pain, trauma and grief, similarly to the motivations of characters such as Batman and Spider-Man, who also lost loved ones to morally reprehensible and heartless foes. Also, have some panels with him thinking about her actively via thought balloons, especially since Stan Lee himself loved using thought balloons to convey a character's own feelings, especially Spider-Man! After Salden snuggles himself in the ransom payment to terrorists who kidnapped the president of China, all per his proposed plan to the Pentagon, and he sees Gorrok holding Lois Lane hostage, he recalls the helplessness he felt regarding his inability to save his beloved Lyella. As soon he is chained up and Gorrok makes the mistake of taunting and mocking Salden by mentioning Lyella, Salden recalls his promise to defend those with no means of protecting themselves, and this provides him with the motivation to break the chains and ultimately defeat Gorrok. This gives Salden a far less selfish motivation beyond wanting to return to his home planet, and ensuring that Lyella's death actually has some level of importance and overall significance to the story.
I patiently await the day likara opens an episode with "hey guys, i got sparkington revived" while looking baffled.
I know Stan was an editor and publisher for a long time after retiring from full-time writing, but I'm still surprised his writing style hadn't really changed much in a few decades.
Stan Lee was born in 1922
It really didn't. Especially if you watch the Ravage 2099 #1 review
@@mariomouse8265 He wasn't talking about his age.

4:54 surprised he can “still remember” his time as an infant
3:40 I just want to say; love the cybermats.
Huh. Robin’s costume here is basically Daredevil’s black bandana costume from the Netflix series, only the bandana doesn’t cover his eyes and nose, he wears a black tank top instead of a tactical long sleeved shirt and wears a belt.
When you said that Dark sensed "nonbelievers" I immediately heard "shun the nonbelievers" from Charlie the Unicorn.
7:31 I always appreciate a “They Live!” Reference
A new installment of Stan Lee creating DC heroes. Looking forward to seeing how Stan the Man tackles creating Robin.
*Robin:* Reverend Darrk said he could reunite me with my birth parents.
*Batman:* Why do you need him to do that when you just check the local hospital records around the time you were born?
*Robin:* Y'know, that thought has never occurred to me.
*Darrk:* CURSE YOU, BATMAN, AND YOUR COMMON SENSE!
2:06 The Conner Kent 2000s suit does have more effort than Just Imagine Stan Lee Robin suit because Conner’s 2000s suit shows a sign of maturity and character growth (and that he looks early-to-mid 20s).
2:17 Indeed you do, Lewis because it shows a sign of wanting to improve, change, and evolve yourself over time. Speaking of costumes, I assume that you’re going to have a new costume in the next few months this year, since your latest costume/suit is about to hit the five-year mark.
Lee's Batman with his design could have been a chojin working with Kinnikuman during a worldwide wrestling tournament
10:39 Stan Lee: Do I look like I know what a jay peg is?
Given Stan Lee notoriously disliked the concept of teenage sidekick hero and wanted teenage heroes to stand of their own (which was one of the reasons he made Spider-Man), I am not surprised that he had troubles with Robin. Clearly he tried to keep the core idea and a connection to Batman while making the character more independant, which.... good effort, but it doesn't quite work sadly^^
Watching Linkara remain stonefaced while the kitties do adorable things makes these videos better and is an endless source of entertainment to me.
If only Robin hadn't been so lazy as a baby, he would have a magic flyswatter to aid him in his adventures.
Excelsior, true bat believers!
5:10 "Then you'd throw him in a GREAT BIG FIRE WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
This version of Robin feels like a mix of the Ultimate Universe's version of Shang-Chi and Iron Fist.
Honestly, the best way to make the character more interesting is if they put more focus on Robin's desire to find his parents, maybe even show a more caring side of him who has a soft side for kids with abusive parents or are orphans. And it would help if Dark was sending him on missions that seem justified, like taking out rival gangs who prey on the weak and stealing things from corporations who are very shady, but ultimately are to Dark's advantage.
Then one day, Dark challenges Robin's moral side by sending him to help his men rob a bank. Maybe during the moment a woman he remembers from his time at the orphanage is hurt and he takes action without even realizing it. Dark, seeing this as proof that Robin will never be one of them, betrays him and tries to have him killed. Wounded, Robin is discovered by Batman, who takes him in and decides to help him, although Robin is reluctant to get close to him, only wishing to be trained so that he could one day get his vengeance on Dark.
Lee's Robin looks like he's going to join the Power Rangers
When Robin was attacking the guard, it didn't look like the Vulcan nerve pinch....looked more like he was practicing Venusian Akodo(see the 3rd Doctor for more info).
Woo-hoo! Mark Merlin! One of my favorite Silver Age DC characters. So rarely referenced. Also, having Tommy Tomorrow appear as an orphan is a surprisingly deep cut. He was one of DC's sci-fi heroes from the 40's-60's, and is the main timeline version of Kamandi and grandson of OMAC. But in Action Comics #255 (1959), Supergirl travelled to a future orphanage and met a young Tommy Tomorrow. I wonder if Stan Lee was aware of that, or if it was just a coincidence...
Holy moley... I've honestly never heard of this one. This is gonna be a treat ❤
Honestly with the Red Robin and the red tint on Robin's flashbacks, i wouldn't be surprised if the Red Robin was Mephisto
Your 'street punk' voice is another favourite of mine. Oh and I'm pretty sure that bird was actually Mephisto, especially as while I'm no expert on birds I'm not sure Robins are red all over like that.
13:38 You fight pretty well for a big mouth...........
Linkara: Oh, GOD!! Not this again!!!!!!
(see Linkara's ASSBAR #9 for reference)
still laughing at the Ferengi joke. thanks for this!
Actually, I'm pretty fond of some of the ideas they laid down for the Robin backstory here. The problem really is the execution; it's pretty basic, but even basic ideas can become good stories in the right hands! This really didn't work though. Totally agree with how pointless Batman's inclusion felt, too, since… yeah. They didn't even team up, my guy was just being thrown around for the plot here. Maybe with more time to cook those ideas we could've had something cooler, but this wasn't it.
also hi i have been watching the vods recently and now i need to watch all of the storyline from the start because i need my fix of LORE
A baby walking and talking at 2 MONTHS? We're impressed, Dammit!
Considering that Batman is a wrestler in this continuity, it's a missed opportunity that Robin wasn't a large ham like the Ultimate Warrior or the late Iron Sheikh.
12:35 Tell that to the parkour guys in "Punisher: War Zone".
6:33 Wait a second... is that Ms. Keane from the Powerpuff Girls!? I guess Stan Lee was a PPG fan, who knew?
13:51 Actually I believe this is a reference to an old Stan Lee "Rants" video he posted on youtube a few years ago, it may still be up. But he expressed his dislike of the fact that comic books as we know it are two words and what we call comic books should actually be one word. His reasoning was as I recall because with the two-word form you get this medium associated with cheap comedy novels that people shouldn't take seriously in any circumstance, even when the comic book story is very serious and very heavy and thought-provoking. In his mind, having it be one word rather than two helped to separate comics from comedy novels. Not too sure how he came to that conclusion but at least he wasn't calling for comicbooks to be called "Flibbity-Floos".
12:02 Uh pretty sure Barbatos has it out for Batman?
I do wonder if people hit up Damien Darrk for just random info.
"I know everything."
"What was that short lived sitcom where a guy lived with a dragon puppet?"
"Scorch."
"Awesome, thanks!"
12:45
"The Leader is good,
The leader is great.
We surrender our will,
As of this date!"
14:23 ... I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE 😂
anyone else reminded of that _Youngblood_ panel with the gigantic moon and crossword puzzle buildings by the cover?
5:34 Take it from a guy that has seen The Flash I have seen worse way way worse their soulless eyes are going to haunt me for the rest of my life they know my name
"POWER IS GREAT!"
Truer words have never been spoken, i too enjoy nebulously defined POWER but you simply have to have POWER because POWER is GREAT! : D
Oh Stan Lee’s “Just Imagine” series, one of my favorite obscure comic series, so much fun
If they're going to make such a big deal about a robin continually showing up in his life they could at least bother to check what a robin actually looks like. Robins are only red on their chest. The bird that keeps showing up in the comic looks more like a summer tanager.
The Adventures of Batman and Tanager!
The woman in the right panel at 6:32 looks like the teacher from the Powerpuff Girls.
5:21 I still remember Flapjack
One thing that bugs the hell out of me is that I'm pretty sure the artist or maybe the colorist didn't know what a robin looked like since the dumb bird doesn't look like a robin at all. This bird's almost entirely red rather than having either a red breast or upper breast and face. If anything, the bird in this looks more like a red canary.
I just realized Robin tried to rob a bank without even covering his face! Is he dumb or suicidal? XD
Like, he has a bandana, he could've at least recovered his mouth and nose ^^'
6:33 Is this Ms.Keen from Powerpuff Girls? Does this mean that Robin is still in primary school?
Glad someone else noticed, it’s a stealth crossover.
@6:32 that’s Ms. Keane from Power Puff Girls!?!? Was this a stealth cross over? Did Robin go to school with Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup???
Ok, does anyone else see Ms.Keane from the PowerPuffGirls at 6:34?
Can't convince me otherwise that Stan Lee heard about the "Bruce Lee vs Burt Ward" story and said, "EUREKA!"
and here I thought Damien Wayne was a jerk. This Robin takes the cake
16:33 Oh hell yeah, More freaking Mr T next time.
That robin is giving me Mephisto-Bird flashbacks.
The cover looks like what would have happened if Takahata101 didn't join TFS, nor did he Open the Wery101 and instead became a vigilante
I feel like Stan Lee phoned in on the outfit tbh
Like what that’s it? Batman in this is really interesting and Robin looks like some dude
Could perhaps be a subconscious thing since, according to an old History Channel documentary on comic book superheroes, Stan did not look fondly on the sidekick concept.
11:54 He gained the power of Ryu from Street Fighter
Miss you Stan, also the first video other than hopr that I’ve watched from your channel.
Love the Cinnamon Toast Crunch joke. As well as the They Live reference, mostly because Bumblebee referenced it in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
9:24- Ha. Short Circuit 2 reference, too. You're on fire.
12:30- Great, Darrk taught his followers the Art of Destrucity (For those who don't know, "destrucity" is that word the Ultimate Warrior made up which is suppose to mean "a truce between destiny and reality").
5:44 You’ve said Damien instead of Dominic, Lewis.
Despite the Just Imagine series title, this issue didn't seem to have much imagination behind it.
I hope the Ultimate Warrior makes other random appearances in other comics lol To be fair though, the bad guy does say MY Ultimate Warrior not THE Ultimate Warrior ;)
Robin’s outfit in this is exactly why I can’t stand that all black detail-less Daredevil costume people love for some reason
I think part of the problem with Stan Lee's Robin is the fact that Stan Lee has always disliked Robin and other comic book sidekicks.
Just pointing out that the teacher in one of the panels looks like Ms. Keen from the power puff girls cartoons.
Outside of being an orphan, this character didn't seem to have anything in common with Robin. This really felt like a completely original character, rather than a Stan Lee take on a DC character.
6:33 or so, it's the teacher from power puff girls!
*The following is the opinion of a Salty SEAGULL named EARL who just shows up in my posts whenever he feels like it, so don't take anything he says too seriously!*
[EARL the Salty SEAGULL:] 1:55 - Ah, I see the cover has Linkara's old pet peeve, THE MOON IS DRAWN TOO BIG!" 6:34 - "Looks like Stan Lee's Robin had Ms. Keane from Powerpuff Girls as his teacher! Does that mean his orphanage is located in Townsville?!" 7:09 - "Looks like Spiromania is RUNNING WILD in STAN LEE's version of the DC Universe! Also gotta love callbacks to old At4w MEMEs!" 16:30 - "Well at least next weeks' comic is MR. T & The T-FORCE! Gotta say Stan Lee's Robin is just MEH! Lame costume, backstory, & he doesn't even team up with BATMAN! You'd think Stan Lee would be able to come up with a decent teenage superhero origin, yet his Robin feels like something out of the 90s!" 17:34 - "Well at least BATMAN has HANDZ though I gotta agree especially when Stan could also reimagine their rogues gallery (like his version of the Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Cheetah (maybe combine Catwoman & Cheetah into a single character), etc!" 17:57 - "Oh, I get it, cause he's ROBIN!"
I feel like this iteration of Robin should have just skipped to Nightwing, considering he wants to do the solo act.
Someone's been modding his Spirit pack.
I hope you're prepared for the addictive madness you have just invited into your life.
:::creepy child voice::: ONE OF US! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
And Batman owed it to little Robin's cleverness that let him cheat and drive the evil Daark away.
Not convinced the author has ever seen a robin.
“He’s still a dick.” Nice pun.
I feel like this issue was another victim of the “all these characters only get one standalone book” style of the series. I kind of like the idea that this version of Robin doesn’t initially work with Batman. If this had been a miniseries, I would have used that. Have Batman and Robin start out reluctant to work together but in the end they agree to be a team to take down their common foe. Or do the opposite: have Batman and Robin start out as allies, then end the miniseries with Robin deciding to go solo because he thinks Batman betrayed him or just feels he needs to do stuff himself. That would be a more satisfying reimagining of the classic Dynamic Duo. But that’s just me.
You know, I think part of the reason Robin doesn't end up joining Batman permanently was because Stan Lee, along with early writers and editors of Marvel, hated the idea of sidekicks. Or at least child sidekicks. He found the idea of an adult superhero deliberately putting a child into dangerous situations distasteful. And I guess he just found adult sidekicks weird, since they could probably be as effective on their own. It's why there are so few sidekicks in Marvel, and probably why any of their kid or teenage superheroes go solo; better for them to make the choice to be heroes than for an adult to put them into deadly situations.
EVERY bank is evil...
When it comes to your jokes, I like them, they're funny, sometimes not worth it, but it is appreciated. When it comes to a all dressed in black Robin, I don't think that it was attentively lazy, probably at the time, probably was a missed opportunity, to put an R or a bird somewhere. Robin within this story, looks like a predated, Danny phantom, but it does give me, what if the Ninja turtles were people and it's also giving me, a marvel version of Casey Jones, without the mask various sticks that's meant for various sports.
You know what? I would love if Max do their own “What If…” series but with these characters
Marc the magic gun was actually made of cocktail shrimp this whole time!
Man, first a Hulk Hogan reference and then a Roddy Piper one what's next
Furthermore, have Stan Lee's Superman (A.K.A. Salden), come to the realization that, while he may not have possessed such extraordinary powers and abilities on his home planet, on Earth, he could potentially protect and save countless individuals from suffering the precise, exact same fate as his beloved Lyella.
