Hi, here are some references and elaborations :) Song Background: 武家坡 is an excerpt from a traditional Peking Opera play. The story is also performed in other region's traditional opera including Hunan, Sichuan, Hebei, Henan, etc. The play tells the story of Xue PingGui returning home and meeting Wang BaoChuan in front of 武家坡 (WuJia Slope). The couple has been separated for 18 years and Wang BaoChuan no longer recognised the other. Xue asked for directions to test her heart, Wang ran back inside the cave-like structure that she lived in. Xue rushed after her and through the door told her his name and his experiences. The couple then recognised each other. Wang BaoChuan was the third daughter of Wang Yun, the Prime Minister during the Yizong period of Tang dynasty. Her two older sisters both married government officials. The third daughter was doted on and instead she chose her husband by throwing an embroidered ball at her chosen suitor. From her high position on the colourful building, Wang BaoChuan saw the beggar Xue PingGui and deemed him her best choice. Wang Yun opposed this match and ordered his daughter to break off the engagement, she refused. The relationship between father and daughter was broken and Wang BaoChuan went with Xue PingGui to live in a han yao (a cave-like structure; a hole dug inside the side of a hill that is turned into a dwelling). Xue PingGui joined the army and subdued a red-maned steed. He was later awarded an official position by the emperor and was sent to battle the rebelling Western Liang. During the expedition, he fought bravely but was betrayed by his brothers-in-law and captured. The king of Western Liang loved talented people and so betrothed the Dai Zhan Princess to Xue. He soon succeeded the throne. For 18 years, Wang BaoChuan lived in the cave-dwelling relying on wild vegetables to survive as the Wang family withheld Xue PingGui's military salary. In desperation. she wrote a letter in blood and sent it to Xue using a messenger goose. Upon receiving the letter, Xue rushed back to Chang-An (capital city of Tang, now known as Xi-An). The song tells of their reunion. 01:53 Yin'an Hall is the palace of either princes of the first rank (second to only the emperor) or vassal kings.
