Dickey Betts just had a presence, so cool and bad ass with his raccoon (?) tails, cowboys hats and his Indian/Cajun style jewelry and bandanas. Saw these guys right up front at UMass, in the spring of this year, when they still had Jaimoe (and no second keyboard player). One of the best shows that I've ever seen.
The Brothers did several concerts at this venue in Gainesville by Lake Alice. I was at one of them, maybe this one, and I remember Dicky Betts smashed that Gibson!!!!!!! I was freeking out when I saw that. I have thought about it all these years. And I am astonished to see this on you tube! Wow! this is bringing back some serious great memories!
I'll never forget seeing this ABB line-up. The gig of a lifetime! Dickey & Duane drew sparks together. By the time they got to Whipping Post they were flying. With Derek & Warren, it's a different feel but we have Derek's band, too. Cross fingers for Dan to recover and play again!
was at this show at lake alice also, also remember dicky Betts doing show there with differant band, and Allman brothers doing show at florida gym with BB King, all great shows
No doubt, got one of the best tones I think I've heard. Another dude that was damn hot back in the day was Les Dudek (and the late great Toy Caldwell, he absolutely flew on 'Ramblin on my mind' done in like double tempo, amazing speed for a finger picker). Dickey is a Beast though, must agree!
this may be the best version of southbound ive ever heard and i am an old head and bros fan. Damn dicky wtf where did that solo come from? ; ) Whiskey and Cocaaaaainnee lol
I am not sure but, I do believe that would be Bonnie Bramlett Doing Backup. I am pretty sure she was still with them at that point. As far as that being Duanes guitar? Not sure but, I really don't think so. He had a 61 SG that Duane had given him that he used for slide. But, that of course is a Gold Top. probably his 57 that he used to tour with.
Not my favorite line up, but ,.. WOW!!!!! Even with Key-tar, this smokes. Looks to be.. Gregg, Dickey, Butch, Dan Toler, David Goldflies, Frankie Toler and Mike Lawler ... no Jaimoe
Actually this was just another share from a fellow RUclipsr. I really don't know why it say's I "uploaded" it because, I didn't ... Kinda strange. But, I DO have this on one of my own Brothers of the Road Video's. All I can think of is that maybe they produced different versions. Because the Brothers of the Road series consisted of several VHS sets. It wasn't just one. But, which one this was from I am not sure. If I come across it, I will let ya know.
The comments about Betts smashing his Gibson are ridiculous completely. I've seen Dickey Betts with Great Southern and with the Allmans a dozen times combined and he never smashed no Gibson, he's not an idiot manchild, he's a man. His 57 Gibson Les Paul Goldie has been with him for over forty years which he repainted red several years ago.
well... it all depends on how you smash it... i've seen guitars LITERALLY split in half cause some idiot guitarist smashed it onto a wall, only to be completely fixed back to its original state a couple of weeks/months later... i work at a guitar shop, and trust me, i've seen worse...
As a LONG-time Allman's fan (30+ years) ,to me, the Allmans are just NOT the Allmans w/o Dickey!! Seen them MANY times, have no deisre to see them w/o Mr. Betts. No disrespect to Derek Trucks, he's a great player in his own right. But to me Dickey transcends licks,it's his sound and feel, with this band. Also, Derek's stage presence SUCKS! I actually saw the Allmans in Florida around this same time with this guitar player(Frankie something) They were AWESOME!!
It was too cool when I found this video I was there at 23 and it's again fresh in my mind
Just incredible guitar playing..... Betts and Tolar never miss a beat!!! Thanks for posting this gem!
Dickey Betts and Dangerous Dan Toler are fantastic. R. I. P. Dan.

no band beats these guys on this song! they were WAY ahead of their time...! k...A...S!!
Southern Rock at its best! This is what a "jam band" is all about, hands down.
This concert reminds me so much of my school days at Georgia Southern College....now if only we'd managed to get the Bros to play there...oh well
hell...can't get any better !!
Only 2721 views? What a shame! I'm from Finland and I just ♥ Gainesville (been there once 3 weeks) and Southern Rock!
Super sustain on that LP!!! Such a great tone!!
dickey really had a superb blues tone, so fat, yet an pronounced attack.
Ya know, I heard about Dicky smashing his Gibson at one of the shows ... I didn't know it was this one though. Thanks for the trivia input!

that sounds good. that guitar would be worth at least $10,000 today.
oh my god I fuckin roared when that keytar came out!
No joke.
H ahaha ,I'm sure Kieth Emerson would be proud of that guy with the Key Tar ,Shoulder strap keyboard ! Kieth would be jealous
crazy shit !!!
RIP Dangerous Dan

Dickey Betts and Dangerous Dan Toler a very deadly combination!!!!
uuhh... dude... he DID in fact smash that gibbo... he got it fixed later on and kept playing it like nothing happened..
If he had smashed it there would be nothing to fix or repair it would have been smashed beyond repair, dude.
I dont know. part of the show I guess.
Damn. I like Derek and Warren but Dickey Betts is the shit.
Behind the univ of FLA behing the heckt house
Why did he smash it?
dickey betts !!!! RECONIZE !!!

it was all cool till 2:25 ....
I dont know, Dickey has always had a mean streak in him, pulled a .45 on his wife at a golf course once, Im guessin he was pissed for some reason.
To me the term "jam band" has negative connotations that don't apply to this band, they're better than that.
