I couldn't love this song more if I tried. The gorgeous - almost Faulkner-esque imagery of the rainy Southern town. Gregg's beautiful vocals. The rhythm section clinic between Butch, Jaimoe, Marc (incredibly underrated) and Oteil. The subtle walking Rhodes line that Gregg does during the guitar solos. And My GOD those solos! Warren and Derek are of another world. Having two of the finest blues guitarists of all time in the same band - what a blessing. But you could say that from day one with ABB with Duane and Dickey. What a band and one of my biggest regrets is never getting to see them play live.
The essence of the Allman brothers.. an eerie ambience that depicts a stormy southern night. Gregg's keys and Warren's guitar a torrent of rain, Butch, Jaimoe, and Otel rolling thunder, and Derek the Lightning.
I was at this show! Saw the ABB 6 times in 2013! They were at their peak with Derek & Warren...This was also the best Bonaroo ever! Antibalas late night Thursday. Friday Neal Young & Crazy Horse rocked main stage for over 3 hours with a greatest hits show, then late night Flaming Lips under a tent. Saturday Allman Brothers and then Widespread Panic with Warren & Robert Randolph sitting in. Sunday James Brown opened up for The Dead!
Never could figure out why this last great CD never got any commercial airplay. I think that it's one of the greatest efforts made by The ABB since the 90's.
As a guitarist I could watch Derek and Warren all day long! But it was really nice to see some focus on Gregg. He is after all, the main reason we have the Allman Brothers band! Not to mention, he is the BEST and most soulful singer of all time!
Rest in peace Butch, I do not know what was ailing your mind, body or soul at the end, I can only pray your spirit will be given the chance to find a true resolution, bless.
I keep waiting for the morning that I wake up and it doesn't hurt anymore....This is so pretty....I guess the pain of losing him and my Dad at the same time...is just too much to bear sometimes!
I just hope their is a place in heaven where they have all day performances of your favorite artists. And you can just go from venue to venue. Let’s go see Bob Marley today. Tomorrow we are goin to see Stevie Ray. Then we see Sinatra on Tuesday. The Altman’s would be my first stop
Every time I listen to this, I have to thank you. I have heard and seen 5 or 6 performances (one of my ABB favorites.) and this one is the best. Those jams in the middle are bliss. Thanks again.
This is from Bonnaroo '03 but it's uncut, unlike the version on the Bonnaroo '03 DVD. How did you get a hold of this and is it possible to see other songs from the set like say...Layla?
Warren once described the slide guitar style saying, 'if the human voice could play the guitar, it would come out as a slide blues lick'. I've never heard a more adept description!
What a great voice, sounds the same from day one just as strong. he will be missed. He's just one of these guys u thought would be around 4ever. Thank god his music & these clips will be.
The name Desemona is from Shakespeare. A most ill-favored lady, she is murdered by her husband. The ABB is one of my favorite bands. So years later, I still journey to the place wihere the music lives for the time that those remember.
so far...I've noticed that this version, ,has seamlessly been edited twice. Gotta save it before it gets "shorter" A phenominal piece of musical all around !
killer song. warren is 'the man.' check out when his solo comes up. he turns up his amp. he smiles at gregg. turns to a chick in the wings,(of whom by her reaction knows him pretty well) smiles at her...and then takes off like rocket man. just one of, if not the best American Band of all times...and they're still play cutting edge music.
Man, the solos in this song are just incredible. I guess I've gotten over how the song can make me feel at times. When I am very sad this would not be my go-to song. But when I'm feelin' allright this song, or this version is pretty amazing, minus some sub par Gregg vocal work.
One of my favorite Allman Bros.songs.The players are:Gregg Allman[R.I.P.],vocals and organ;Derek Trucks, guitar;Warren Haynes, guitar;Oteil Burbridge,bass;-back row, left to right audience:Jai Johanny Johanson[Jaimoe],drums;Butch Trucks[R.I.P.],drums and Marc Quinones, precussion.Watch the look on Warrens face when Derek takes off on his solo. When you've impressed him you're doing something.Oh,yeah,Gregg and Warren wrote this. When they stretch out at 2:49,it puts me in mind of Dave Brubeck's[R.I.P.] Take Five.
anyone know the chords they use during the solos? think theres a Cm7 in there and a #9 kinda hendrix chord rooted on the F of the A string but i cant be certain
This song is the essence of The Allmans. Perfection.

Ryan Hall Nice comment thank you..
Ryan, you nailed it 💯
so well said
Beautifully said Ryan. Just Beautiful. 🎶🎤 🎹🎸🥁
As a drummer, I will always be impressed by the seemless rudimentality of the drummers. Homeboy is running paradiddles for days.
Amazing tune.
Derek and Warren, Warren and Derek. Which one is the best?
No way out. Allman Brothers Band at his best.
I will love this band forever.
Butch Trucks would have been 72 today-can you even imagine what life would be like without great music like this?
One of those Truckssolos, where time and space fade away and there is just heaven.
Seems like all of them are like that
The final 2001-2014 edition of the Allman Brothers Band was a real beast. Great song & performance.
Una delle mie favorite
..immensi Allman Brothers Band..❤

A work-of-art!
Most of us were stuck in Seattle.
The way Warren Haynes seemed to be starring at Derek Trucks in awe during his solo says a lot.
My favorite AB tune...Trucks and Haynes smokin' hot
As a guitarist I could watch Derek and Warren all day long! But it was really nice to see some focus on Gregg. He is after all, the main reason we have the Allman Brothers band! Not to mention, he is the BEST and most soulful singer of all time!

Rest in peace Butch, I do not know what was ailing your mind, body or soul at the end, I can only pray your spirit will be given the chance to find a true resolution, bless.
I am so grateful I was able to see them between 2002 and 2014. May Butch and Gregg rest in peace.
In my opinion, it is one of the best ABB tunes.
I keep waiting for the morning that I wake up and it doesn't hurt anymore....This is so pretty....I guess the pain of losing him and my Dad at the same time...is just too much to bear sometimes!
This may just be the one and only time I will have seen the Allman Brothers.
I love the look on Warren's face there during Derek's solo.
WOW! This is GREAT!! Give me DT & WH guitar solos all day long! Oh YEAH!!!!
RIP Gregg. Thanks for all the GREAT music... Rock on in Heaven
He is beautiful, just the way he is.
I love when Warren smiles during Derek's solo ABB✌️💙🎵🍄

tippimail1 16 millennial maggots.
@@chrisjurczak9812 Wrong. Hip Justin Bieber fans like ME! The geezer Gregg Allman don't even know to use Auto-Tune.
CCP

Sure do miss The Allman Brothers band playing here at Red Rocks Amphitheater...
Warren once described the slide guitar style saying, 'if the human voice could play the guitar, it would come out as a slide blues lick'. I've never heard a more adept description!
love it...allmans for ever.
What a great voice, sounds the same from day one just as strong. he will be missed. He's just one of these guys u thought would be around 4ever. Thank god his music & these clips will be.

Never Forgotten Brother Greg Allman. With Skydog now.
Amen
@Vaportrails22 -- Exactly where is he with Skydog? In the ground?
this is big boy music.
R.I.P. Gregg.
Amen Brother
The name Desemona is from Shakespeare. A most ill-favored lady, she is murdered by her husband. The ABB is one of my favorite bands. So years later, I still journey to the place wihere the music lives for the time that those remember.
Legends Live !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We love everything you have given us
Good Lord.
Derek Trucks what a humble boy.
Step forward another one more step.
Great Song...
so far...I've noticed that this version, ,has seamlessly been edited twice. Gotta save it before it gets "shorter"
A phenominal piece of musical all around !
COLD CHILLS HEAD TO TOE..........
Othello! ~ lovely jam right here

Fantastic ---- What's the date of this show? Looks like a festival
mercy..........
Hey man do you have this entire show?
This is some incredible music and footage of a band at their Highest!
🤘😪🤘
Was Duane on the studio version. Or is he just looking down with brother Greg just feeling a great groove.
@stipplehead this was in summer 2003 in manchester, tennessee for bonnaroo.

Yes this has always been one of my favorites and loved it when they go into the Take Five groove. Also one of there strongest albums ever.
Fuck, yeah!!
Smoke it if ya got it.....
STILL GREAT AMAZING GUITARS DEREK
every time I hear Derek trucks solo I make a mess on my self but you know what it is worth every second of it (my maid doesn't)
Whoops I didn't see what the song was...now it is right
Gregg's voice isn't quite what it used to be, but I'd still trade it for everything I've got
Johnny Twidds it’s hard to argue with that. But considering the hell he put his body through over the years his voice held up remarkably well.
Derek "My Favorite Things" 4:01-4:10
@ 6:28 Warren reaching back to turn it up... and that look after.. Hah Hah! you know its on!!!
My car is called Desdemona.
Hah..I know..just making a Joke..Love that guy!
What scale did Warren use on that first descending lick beginning his solo?
John Coltrane's version of "My Favorite Things" quoted by Derek 4:01-4:10!
Nice catch. Derek always puts little easter eggs in there!
So well noticed!
anyone know the chords they use during the solos? think theres a Cm7 in there and a #9 kinda hendrix chord rooted on the F of the A string but i cant be certain
Anyone know if Derek stays in his normal open E tuning for this tune?
Bonnaroo '03
Is this from Bonnaroo? if so i was there for this show and it was amazing..they closed doing "Layla" and Warren sang it
Same here. Maybe the best Bonnaroo. Crazy Horse!
A-fucking-men!!
Derek references "My Favorite Things", a version by Trane, in his solo.
