One thing I noticed while un-screwing the heatsink was that the longer screws usually had a circular mark next to it and the shorter a square. Handy to know when putting it all together.
How could I change the usb port on the right side of my matebook x pro (usb-a port)? Do I need to disassemble the whole thing or is it replacable by only lifting up the cover and replacing the usb port?
Thank you so much, it helped me a lot! I just replaced my screen with the help of your video. It's working fine and the screen seems qualitative! The only downside -which is quite annoying- is that when I close my screen, it looks like the laptop doesn't recognize it and doesn't go to sleep. The only way is to manually turn it off or put it to sleep. I do believe I reinstalled everything correctly but I may have missed something. Do you have an idea of where it might come from? Thanks for your help!
Thanks for the video, wanting to replace the screen on this model, but the hinge assembly has broken out.. do you happen to know if this connects to the top/keyboard bezel assembly? (I assuming that because the bottom lid poppped up real easy in your video, nothing connected). Any sources for parts? I need to find what the lcd hinges screw into - assuming that is the top bezel assembly..
The hinge on my Matebook X Pro (2018) is loose. Edit: I forgot to mention the trackpad seems to be loose as well. Update: I fixed both issues by making sure the hinges underneath the cover, and the actual cover was tight. That fixed my tin audio, trackpad, and hinge issue.
If I need to replace the main board, can I simply buy a new one and put that in? Or are there additional steps or factors I would have to consider? I have the 2018 i7 with 16gb of ram if that information helps.
Hey there. I'll be opening this laptop up soon to replace the problematic SSD it came with (LiteOn). Some people say you need a Torx 5.5 but you mention a 6. Did this work well for you without stripping the screw head? Also, is it necessary to remove the heat sink to replace the SSD or can it be wiggled out?
I'd be wary of a T6, I did it with a T5. The Torx is only to remove the bottom plate from the case. Everything inside is just Phillips head. You kind of do have to remove the heat sink since it's difficult to get enough leverage on the SSD to prize it out without being able to grip close to the middle of its body.
Hi, I cracked my screen and bought the display assembly without looking up your informative vid - It doesn't come with the lid, figured I could separate them easily. From your video, is it correct to assume that I will need to buy a separate lid, or is the lid and the display assembly separable?
Not sure in this case we left it complete. If its anything like Mac which they are trying to be, it will be held together with adhesive you have to heat up before separating or it will break. Sorry can't be more help!
Thanks for this teardown. I’m replacing the entire display assembly soon and have one question: does the motherboard need to be removed or can the display assembly be replaced without removing it?

I replaced the SSD, but now the touch pad is not working, windows can't detect it. I reset the BIOS to default values,no luck. any idea? is it possible some cable is loose?
I would check over your work again to make sure no ribbon got disconnected, but its unlikely that happened with just an SSD replacement. Its possible you touched a metal contact and some static electricity shorted the part or motherboard. Check your ribbon connections and maybe try a new touchpad before giving up on the motherboard.
@@Sellbrokedotcom i finally accidentally figure it out, do you remember to insert a paper for clip board, there is two cables, one on the left, one on the right. in my case, though the left cable is in place, but the left cable's black lock is up. once push it down, touch pad works. how weird.

My hinges are loose too did you figure out what to do? I tighten those 4 screws and it did not work for me
@@jeffbetancourt4660 Did the same and tighten all the screws on back plate. Now it's perfect.
May I ask where are the hinges? Are those the yellow ones or the ones beside those?
@@ynazedel The ones on the outer edges are for the hinge.

If I want to replace the palm rest, will I have to do all of these steps?
Yes unfortunately everything is attached to the palmrest.

@@jessejesse3186thanks for reporting back!! I just had the same issue as you and you helped me understand!!
Is it easy to change the battery?
Kind of, you have to remove the heatsink first but its like a 10 minute job if you have the right tools
Just broke my screen 😭 do you think i can install a new one by myself?
If you get a complete assembly and follow my instructions then there is a chance. Be sure to get the right part
You know if you can upgrade the ram on these “D” series? (2019-2020)
No sorry, it is integrated into the motherboard.
