Sorin, it would be nice if you can make a complete video about bios programming, specially about DELL, that needs many things like service tag and etc..
It's quite complicated. The easiest is probably to just flash some dump from the same type of nb and then use some official (or leaked) tool of vendor to change the serials.
Hi you can not change the Dell service tag in the bios bin file it is stored in the Super IO/EC chip, It can be done using service engineers software.

Great video just for future reference the bitlocker key is stored in the TPM chip and a folder on the HD/SSD and not in the BIOS.
Sorin you should not program the chip on clip with so long wires with REVELROG. It should be in adapter or you should decrease programming speed. Generally you should use clip only for onboard programming. You have this in manual, I had similar case. It's to fast for so long wires, you can decrease speed in settings to 10% but it not always will help (10% is still fast for so long wires without any decoupling on chip side). When you desolder the chip, the adapter is only recommended solution and it will work.

I use the the Vertyanov successor programmer and re-programme bios chips inline with no issues, saying that i use AWG30 gauge wire so does not impair data flow, hope this will help.

I have 3 programmer the RT908H ,EZ2010 and the CH431a modded 3,3v . The CH431a reads some chips that others can t read .

@electronicsrepairschool Sorin one thing to check will be the port. Under Ports in the device manager check that the BPS is set high for example 115200 or greater as the mismatch to the device can result in this failure. Also unde the Advaned Tab is set to high on both and that you are using a unique COM port and its not being interfered with by the USB hub. Its best to use a dedicated clean usb controller. I personally have had these issues due to this with various programmers and readers.
I'm expecting Sorin to flash the bios in all laptops as standard from here on in 😉

On newer laptops that don’t have dedicated BIOS batteries, this is a common issue. The issue usually pops up when the lithium battery starts to fail. Eventually, the BIOS gets corrupt. In most cases, you’re better off, swapping with a completely new chip.

this kind of issue in the bios is known for Lenovo, but I didn't expect to see it in huawei, I work as a local IT and we used to give lenovo to the users they always return it with boot power or post issue and it's 85% coming from the bios either we force an old bios version or send the computer to the lenovo, and once we sent more than 10 laptops after a windows update that updated the bios and we couldn't flash new or old bios
Now we are using HP laptop since january no bios issue so far
it always weird with lenovo, always had bios problem
even when the user only install linux there, reformat the drive, but linux boot is still there

You have to use WSON8 adapter with the programmer, I faced the same issue and resolved by using the adapter, because no enough power delivered to the IC, perhaps because of the clip you are using or any related equipment responsible on power delivery to the IC (internally or externally)
the fastest bios programmer is a Raspbery PI - it has a hw SPI which reliably runs on high clock speeds. flashrom command line utility supports most of the SPI bios chips and it's lightning fast (on high clock speeds). it runs 3.3V natively and you can use an adapter for the 1.8V chips.

@@directsystems2225 Yes there is one, you'll find it. But be careful about the 1.8V (pi is 3.3V) and you can't always flash the bios directly on the board.

my Intel NUC mini pc has same symptoms- no screen at turn on. i’m thinking mybe corrupt bios chip too. (i have no experience servicing pcs.) all the motherboard voltages & currents appear normal. (a hardware issue on hdmi seems less likely). while i will probably write it off, your vid inspired me to try to fix just for learning experience. will do further research on upgrading bios.

Windows 10/11 like to upgrade firmware like optional update. So it something happens during that process it kills the laptop. I have few cases like that on laptops and desktop boards.

i am right now having a simmilar issues with my moms matebook 14, where the screen wont really work, but i have via an external monitor gotten into the bios and Recovery mode, but after that it just goes to black, my 2 theories is either something to do with the onboard ram, or ir has something to do with the graphics prossecor in the CPU

I own the same laptop and every time you power it on the keyboard lights up automatically for a second or two then the caps key and fn key stay on until it boots up successfully if not then it reboots for like 4 times before it turns off completely but you can force shutdown by holding the power button.
Some desktop mother board now a days has dual bios. But I have not seen it in laptops yet.

It looks like BIOS issue has become very common recently. Is this due to the chip manufacturers are currently using? Or something else?
The bios used to be in kbytes, now it's like 13MB.. Also can be a factor, that people used to have old bioses, but now they're pushing firmware and bios updates through windows update.

I have a Huawei Mate 14 laptop but it turns on normally and everything is fine but it does not detect the m2 ssd device. It is connected to the slot but the bios does not detect it and the ssd unit is in good condition. Will it be possible to reinstall the bios without the SSD? Or do you know an indication of the problem? It simply stopped detecting it after normal use it no longer detected the m2 ssd device

IMO super fast speeds with these hacky setups can cause repeatable errors (means verifying will pass), so I wouldn't prise that factor.
Now you can optimize that Revelprog programmer and make a video. Shorter wires, shielded wires. What works, what doesn't...

@@nicmate2543 No, because he didn't show exactly all the steps to make such a complicated job... how to know that the Bios is corrupted, how trusting where a file comes from is legit and will not "destroy" other things making the repair "irreversible"... I think is not necessary to make a video "all inclusive", more video can be accoplished for a single repair.

do you repair for free next time bios goes ? simply re writing bios is not fixing it , it will loose bios again . its like pumping up car tyre with slow leak . this is not fixing laptop . just temp repair .

I have re-programmed hundreds of bios chips and never had one return because corrupt BIOS again, I make sure CMOS battery is good if not i replace it this is one thing a lot of people over look it needs to read no less than 3.1V anything less then you are asking for trouble.
Re-programming the BIOS is FIXING otherwise it wouldn't work.
