I'm excited I'm working on my own comic right now
8:08 It's so interesting to see how different people use different methods , I'm so used to the Loomis head and the Asaro head that I forget different people have different preferences
and the fact that Ryan can have such a rough underdrawing and come up with such a detailed finished piece really tells you how experienced he Is. I always have very precise structure before starting
In Short (still watch it, just for your notes):
- Basics Materials: If you just getting into it stick to a pencil and a pad. Easier to edit your drawings 2B pencil is the best choice. Use pencils only 2H-2B
- Red and Blue Pencils: Red pencils are for thinking. Sketch the basics everything and then go with a 2B. If you color it later you can just remove the red color layer if you are working digitally.
- Getting Started: "Capture the energy" of gestures with your hand movements. Don't hold the pencil too loose but don't restrict it badly too. Go either up or down with your movements.
- Primitive Shapes: Cylinders, Cubes, Circles (ellipses), Triangles. Whatever you draw these basic shapes will be the bedrock of your drawings. After "capturing the energy" you can go back and use primitive shapes to break it down further and you can redraw. Lots of iteration. Details mostly come from shading later on. Many students want to draw too fast and it will be crooked.
- Thinking with Primitive Forms: If you use these primitives it will help you to draw right. Create characters with these basics shapes and they will help you establish angles ratios and where to put what f.e. on a character's head or body or comparison to each other.
I want to slap anime, comics, and renaissance art together. That's the artstyle I dream of having as my own 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Update: These are a lot of likes, I honestly dont think it can be done with my current style and skill, but I'll keep trying until I do! :D

I want to have a art style that is really japanese/korean but actually follows the basic fundamentals like michaelenglo and other masters. But I dont plan to study comics that much since I find the drawings in comics stiff and undynamic.
Kinda the same here. I want to mix my favorite manga artist with silver age marvel and EC horror comics. Along with Bruce Timm and studio Mir and a generous splash of Tim Burton and Lisa Frank.
Ryan Benjamin is a truly fantastic artist and if everyone is interested in form and figure drawing then Dr draw and Tom Fox are really great and have some great resources to help you understand the concepts well. Good luck to everyone leveling up their skills!

I love this series and I hope that one day you will do something similar but with Manga artists, that would be awesome!
I am a aspiring comic artist :) so far created two one shot manga and three abandoned webcomics but currently i am trying to continue one of them.
I want to create a perfect story and mature story tbh, i have been working on that story since 2013-14 and so far created too much lore and world building almost half of elder scrolls maybe (just maybe ... Elder scrolls lore is too big anyway )
I always love his work
I use ovals or circles for the head when I want a quick gesture or a simple head position but for more complex positions like turns and tilts of the head I would use squares cause it's way easier to place in perspective and then just round it out later.
My god thank you so much, damn my work was falling apart for 3 years and I wish I listened to that insight.
I know that failure is important to learning and I finally applied it but man all that flew over my head longer than it should have lmfao

More of this. You don't have to give away the course, but this was finally (after a long time watching) that showed me the detail a paid course can be. Showing sections little more than "this is a pencil" is not selling me anything.

When you draw out your comics do you actually draw them small like the finish product or does one draw them bigger and then upload the the drawing into some typos of digital space that can scale them down?
Comics are typically drawn much larger than print size, both traditionally and digitally. 11"x17" is the most commonly used size of paper, though a portion of that is reserved for empty margins.
In more recent years, some artists have chose to draw work at sizes much closer to the final print size because they've felt they're losing intended detail or because they're putting in more work than is needed. But that's less common.

Some people do that really successfully. And drawing straight into pen is a good way to practice drawing with confidence and intention.
But, depending on your project, it might not be the right way to work. In comics, you often have an editor who may have changes or other things that require changes. Doing a fully final piece like that can mean you waste time and creative energy/effort.
It just depends on the project and circumstance.

Take a look around at some different comic artists. There are some immensely talented artists out there who make dynamically posed panels and follow classic art rules.
A lot of that will come down to personal preference but crack open some collected books at your local shop and see what's out there!
@@ProkoTV I already have quite the collection of comics. I got signed covers of David finch and ryan benjamin but the only one I find dynamic in comic book industry is Stanley Artgerm. Other than that I really find manga and manwha art much more dynamic.
Try to learn videos fron kazone or superani there are some solid learning from kimjung gi lesson that is more prsctical than this
