I clicked on the thumbnail assuming it was from Finch’s channel. Then I heard the whistling. Then I saw him. What a roller coaster of emotions. And what distinctive sketch style!
I’m painfully bad at composition, but watching videos like this give me so many ideas and give me inspiration to improve existing ones. Wonderfully explained and great thumbnails too!
Same here! But im literally just starting, i want to create a comic in the future, but i don't even know if i ever did a comic before Never too late to start
bought the course prerelease date, if you wanna learn about the comics, look no further, David's humble yet rich knowledge will give you so much to learn :)
I wish that growing up I had more stuff like this in my art classes and not just examples with a lecture. I love to draw but all the techniques and the technical stuff has pushed me out of it for years because I didn't understand it. But now watching them be used in the midst of drawing makes it a lot more clear than looking at finished products.
Just what i needed! Im finally confident to start my own pages, at least for testing this rules and perspectives. One day i want to create a full comic, but i never did one before, this actually helps me a lot!
I’ve always found composition painful and confusing but this video makes it sound so cool, like it’s a tool to make things more interesting rather than a chore that you have to learn. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial ! It seems that this kind of detail isn't explored in many videos, and yet it's the reason why some comics look so good while others don't.
OH MY GOSH. This answered so many questions that I didn’t even know how to ask! To top it off, I think a lot of this is good advice even just for drawing singular pictures and paintings. Great principles all the way around.
Sometimes I watch series/movies and get distracted trying to find the compositions. When there's a still shot it may be composed well and then lose that composition as the camera moves until it rests on the next shot. Sometimes even panning to the next shot has compositional elements in that panning. It's amazing! Somebody did so much planning and design.
Many of these suggestions are timeless. I can see them used in many classic paintings of the past. The mention of rule of thirds and framing an element reminded me of Wally Wood's rules.
Life is realy a process of continuos learning, and am realy glad that there are people that are sharing their knowledge so that others could learn as well. thanks.
I always a fan of David Finch work. His style is amazing to say the least. So glad he start to give some advises on youtube; It helps me in a lot of ways, like creativity and technical aspects to create a drawing. sorry bad english
This video helped me put things into perspective. Thank you Mr. Finch for sharing your techniques with us aspiring artists. I really appreciate these classes.
My God, there is NOT A SINGLE channel about comics on Russian-language RUclips, which would explain the material as well and in an accessible way as yours! Thank you for the video 🤗 ♥️

We appreciate you greatly! Your videos have been an invaluable source of knowledge for us in the realms of drawing and graphic design. We eagerly await your upcoming videos, hoping for even more useful content.
Thank you sir, this is by far the most helpful videos I've watched so far, short and to the point. I've been wanting to start my comic, but most other videos are long and complicating. Thank you for re-inspiring me to continuing my long time goal.
Super great guy. Always had time to give you some pointers. A true master at his craft even when he was young. His pencils looked like photos. I wish that could have been preserved. Even though he had one of the best inkers in the world, the nuance of the shading was lost.
my biggest problem is I know how to ocupy a window but I don't know hot to make the window, like how many do I need on a page? Do I need a lot? Based on what do I do the windows, should I be more efficient with them? Do as many as I can, or as little? To me, manga has perfected this to an incredible degree, they can convey so much with as little as a sketch but a sketch looking so good that it just works.
This video is very helpful. Also, my cat has NEVER been this enchanted by an art video before. He was watching intently, purring through the whole video. So not only did I find value in this, but even my cat found value in your video. Thank you!

I've had so many other people explain Rule of Thirds to me and this is the first time I finally understand it!
You guys came through with this right when I started my venture into making a comic. YES.

Always a pleasure to learn from a Master Artist like David Finch.

Awesome. I was aware of the rule of 3rds, but examples so readily available are very useful in composing a scene. Thanks
Just had crazy vivid flashbacks to poring over How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way when I was eight years old. THANK YOU
