  • A controversial draft bill on legalizing the recreational use of the drug cannabis was unveiled on Wednesday by German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach after it was approved by the German Cabinet.
The draft law would make it legal for people over 18 to possess up to 25 grams (0.9 ounces) of cannabis and to cultivate up to three plants for personal use.
There will also be approved so-called cultivation associations. Often referred to as cannabis social clubs, they provide their members with home-grown cannabis products.

Actually, the tobacco industry wants Cannabis to be legalized as well, as they hope tobacco consumption will grow.
When people are allowed to smoke weed and mix it with tobacco in their spliffs, the tobacco industry will also make more money as a lot of weed consumers only smoke mixed and not as often as they would when legalized.

its absolutely asinine we have liquor stores at every streecorner and many parents dont have an issuea giving their kid a glass of beer now and again but we treat smoking a joint like selling heroin in the streets. they talk about "restrictions to protect young people" while you can buy hard liqour at every gas station and all while overloading the already struggling bureaucracy of this country with countless new unecessary regulations and proceedures.
they claim to reduce the caseload of courts and the police by abolishing some criminal offenses but adding about twice as many new ones. theyve somehow found a way to implement this new law in the most impractical version possible. even the police unions are upset about it.
its a genuine farce but also not surprising with the politics of this country and the importance that the massive beer/liqour industry plays here.

Exactly. I'm not for pretending cannabis is harmless, but alcohol is far worse, to the point of being deadly and more addictive. The financial and societal benefits of legalization are hard to overstate.
That criminals have been allowed to earn billions on cannabis for so long, when it could have been a serious source of jobs and legitimate growth is the epitome of backwards thinking.

Here in Canada, where we fully legalized a few years ago, there are some lessons to be learned. Mostly it's been a smooth transition, now cannabis stores are just like liquor stores. However, in Canada we did *not* aggressively target the criminal underworld as legalization occured. Since government cannabis is so highly taxed, criminal enterprises are flourishing selling non-taxed pot just like they did before. Enforcement vs. organized crime was supposed to be part of the deal, but never implemented.

we should be able to grow it in the UK too, private cultivation eliminates the need to associate with criminality, and it doesn't FUND criminality. it also ensures a clean medicine/product considering the grower is responsible.
i maintain that the major cause of cannabis related mental health issues are due to poor growing methods / toxic chemical use during or after cultivation rather than the plant itself.
legalizing it cleans up everyone's act in multiple ways
    edit
3 plants and 50grams personal allowed is silly, someone cant do their maths i feel. once upon a time i could get 1 auto plant to yield 300grams regularly... 3 healthy plants would mean at least 1000 grams.
1 regular plant can yield 150 grams easily..
    silly regulation there.
dont regulate yield, its super dumb, you wont be able to effectively enforce it, its too unpredictable, you'd be arresting EVERYONE with a plant again

It's not poor growing methods or toxic chemicals, it's just strains which have been inbred to feck so they have way too much THC and are off balance in terms of other cannabinoids.
Early 90s skunk had around 7% THC, ratio of THC:CBD was around 14:1
Strains nowadays have around 20% upwards THC, there are strains with 30% now, and THC:CBD is now 80:1.
