Let's be clear. Emotions are high in that area. It's unfortunate that the officers believe that they have the power to censor the 1st amendment. This will cost the people of Ohio, and that county, thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is another example of officer discretion, lack of understanding and qualified immunity all wrapped into one and creating an illegal situation. If you pay attention, state police began the situation but didn't arrest. The sheriffs office made the arrest. It's both state and sheriff that should be held accountable as well as the man in the white sweatshirt that gave directions and walked away.
Edit: Now we know the Ohio Natl Guard General began this with his ego🤦🏾‍♂️

After viewing several different videos of this incident, I still can't comprehend why the 2 green shirts found it necessary to take the reporter to the ground in order to handcuff him. He clearly wasn't resisting and there were 2 other LEO's present. I don't understand how the 4 of them couldn't handcuff 1 man. I see that the reporter was definitely bigger than the 2 green shirts, but he was about the same size as the trooper.
The reporter is being charged with trespassing which doesn't make any sense because the governor said he was allowed to be there. When the reporter did his live shot, the governor was not there, (and specifically at the podium). How can he be charged with disorderly conduct when the press conference hadn't even started yet????
These 2 green shifted deputies very clearly over-reacted to the situation and brought unnecessary attention to their small town. The folks in the East Palestine area have more than enough stress in their lives with the train derailment and subsequent environmental hazard. This incident with their local law enforcement officers shines a spotlight on cops behaving badly.
The folks at News Nation will most likely move on and not press the issue with their reporter. Dewine providing an interview will help to smooth things over

It's a reporter, not an activist for one side or the other, and he was simply doing an on-air report while the governor spoke. This has happened in the past and will happen in the future, because news schedules dictate that certain segments go on the air at defined times. If you watch his segment, he was speaking in a hushed tone so that he wouldn't be disruptive. Police want to control everything and everyone, and when they can't - this is what happens. Someone is taken to the ground, put in handcuffs and hauled to jail. Gov. DeWine reacted appropriately.

Here is a question: if what Gen Harris did was done by an enlisted person in the Ohio National Guard what would the results be? (During a public press conference get into a loud altercation and then escalate it to something physical with a member of the media) Removed from duty, reduction in rank, publicly made an example of? What appears to be happening: political spin, swept under the rug, attempting to downgrade the incident. This is an embarrassment to the National Guard and Harris need to be punished not protected. Any other member of the Ohio National Guard would be nailed to the wall for all to see. Gov. DeWine are you going to do what’s right? Is this the United States 2023 or Germany 1930s?

The police knew that if they charged the reporter with any charge associated with the 1st Amendment, they would be crucified for it. The problem is that when police don't have a REAL charge to make, they resort to contriving one. In the original video, the officers CLEARLY tell the reporter to be quiet while the governor was speaking. Their attack upon the reporter had NOTHING to do with trespassing or resisting arrest. The problem is that when police don't have a REAL charge to make, they resort to contriving one. The FAKE charges were disorderly conduct and criminal trespass. They are fake because the reporter had a Constitutional RIGHT to be there (1st Amendment freedom of the press) and the disorderly conduct was bogus because the reporter was making his news cast (again a 1st Amendment protected activity). The BEST course of action these officers could have taken was NO ACTION. They should have left him alone. The 2 star general is a whole other matter. He may be accustomed to giving orders to his subordinate soldiers, but once he steps out of his designated area of authority, he has ZERO legal authority to order ANYONE about ANYTHING. He should be sued on a personal level because he put his hands on a civilian with no legal justification to do so. He also should be in jail for assault because it is clear in the video that after the trooper tried to keep him away, he STILL made effort to approach the reporter which indicates an attempt to do harm. This entire incident is a giant clusterfuck of ill trained, ego driven, incompetent public officials. I think the community there has had more than its due troubles with the train crash and subsequent air pollution dangers. Now, the police and EVERY official either directly involved or observing should be named in the lawsuit for a reprehensible display of ILLEGAL actions and failure to prevent such actions. The people in East Palestine should be RAILING up against the police department AND the National Guard who is going to cost them a LOT of money for lawsuit settlements.
