This song came out the year my father passed away suddenly. I was just a freshman in highschool then, so the first time I watched shelter you can imagine how many tears I shed. Now every time I hear this song I feel connected to him. It makes me feel like he's watching over me. Its been about 4 years since then (well over 4) And i still associate this song with him. Thank you.

been working with a friend on a vrchat world. going to serve as a sort of memorial for both my fallen friend and eventually myself. she passed away in 2018 right before i started college, which made my first semester hell. now here i am dealing with a very similar issue that took her away. i havent related to the song as much as i do now. used to think about her, my grand parents passing and what theyve left behind for me to move forward but im slowly going into that role instead: what am i leaving behind for my friends? most of my friends are online so my friend sour is helping make a sort of shrine or memorial for myself and my deceased friend. doctors told me i have a few years but who knows.. RIP dawn, youll be missed. and I hope my friends come to visit the world even when im gone, "ill give you shelter like youve done for me". thank you porter robinson, madeon, and everyone else whos made several covers remixes etc of this song. youve changed lives.

This melody takes me back to 2017. The most difficult year of my life. Exams, depression, family problems ... all this flashes before your eyes, you just have to hear this musical turn of 3 notes. I remember how I dreamed, dreamed of a better life just for this video. When the last thing I had the strength to do was open RUclips and turn on this video in headphones. I cried but at the end I let go of the whole day and fell asleep. Thank you for the gifted emotions Proximity.

Listened to this when my closest friend had died from suicide a year ago. Walked around my parents backyard with a 40z in my hand. I miss you man. If only i knew there was something i could do to stop you from doing it. You were the most important person in my life, never had a close friend like you ever. Crazy to think its been a year now, hope you're behaving yourself now.
I don't know whose idea it was to put those "room sounds" in this piece that can be heard very subtly but I have to say, it was very well done. Those things definitely got my immersion level so much higher than I had anticipated.
It’s from the piano, the piano used for this was an Una Corda. It comes with sounds (specifically that room ambience sound), it’s a VST btw. This is the same piano used for Look at the sky

If anyone's wondering why the lyric melody is slightly different than the one in the actual song, it's because it was based off the lyrics in the A-1 demo version! (I assume it was a draft made by Porter and Madeon so the animation can fit with the song while the song was being worked on) This demo version had different lyrics in this format!

This song is too sacred for me. I listened to it during my first depression at the age of 12. Then I got over it and returned to this song no more than once a year. and now is one of those moments. people still listen to it, which really warms my heart. Today I turned 19 and I feel like my life is just beginning. what I am now cannot even be compared with a smaller version of me. I kinda struck with shelter, and this 2 years i've been listening to every variation the shelter has, or mashup or everything. I wish porter started making this kind of music again, i'm actually sad that because of porter my taste in music changed _greatly_ and to this day couldn't still find a replacement for his work, be it madeon, daft punk or anything.

This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Literally brought tears to my eyes. This could seriously be in a drama, but not one of those corny ones, the really good ones. Hell, any kind of drama. American dramas, Anime dramas, anything. Literally amazing.

I don’t know why there’s dislikes, this deserves no dislikes at all it’s just perfect. It gives that vibe of Japanese anime in my opinion Japanese anime is the greatest work they’ve done yet giving all fantasy and expressing creativity through anime. Gosh, I played Shelter for my high school graduation slideshow... and tonight the song came up in my playlist while I was working and I got so emotional. It reminds me of home, and more importantly, my mom. We’re so close, and now that I’m halfway across the country... well, it’s hard for us to not have each other sometimes. The song is bittersweet for me ♥️ but it reminds me that I’m loved and that she’ll always be in my heart
