  • Steel Taipan is a Mack launch coaster at Dreamworld in Australia. This is a near clone of Blue Fire at Europa Park, except this one features a swing launch and a spinning car in back. Just how good does the spinning seat make this ride? Find out in this review!

    I absolutely love how they took the Blue Fire layout and added on to it like this. Its saving lots of money for having pretty much the same design but adding something to change the experience so much more. It may not be an airtime machine or a rode of intensity but that spike makes it unique and the layout is still cool. That spinning seat must feel crazy.

    I thought this would be of interest to you, they have just very recently modified the second train to have the spinning seat also now, so no matter what, there'll always be a train with a spinning seat if the coaster itself is not in its annual maintenance period.

    Seems like a lot of fun :) the rotation on Ride to Happiness isn't controlled anymore, they took off the magnets that control the spin within months of opening. The YT channel Theme Park Science has a video on it, I believe with English subs (it is a Dutch channel).

    I'm glad the upcharge seat isn't on every train. I'd really hate for this trend to get out of hand and every major new thrill coaster ends up having the back seat as an upcharge. People shouldn't have to pay extra to experience the normal layout with that added bonus of great airtime in the back just because a backward or spinning seat can be sold as an upcharge.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  Год назад +5

      I heard Parc Asterix made the backwards seat a free experience on a reservation system, so maybe more parks can do something like that.

      @@CanobieCoaster I think the best way to do it would be to sell "guaranteed" backwards rides with the skip the line included but offer it to anyone on a first-come basis (without the option of choosing it) on busier days.

      Tower of Terror had been having loads of technical issues. Pair that with their financial issues post-Thunder Rapids, and it does honestly make sense. Don’t know about Buzzsaw though

      @@CanobieCoaster No one rode it at Dreamworld. Gumbuya got such a bargain, they paid about 1/20th of its original cost. It just wasn't popular at all but in Melbourne so far what I have seen is that those visiting Gumbuya generally have the guts to try it. That said, the queue line was always a lot less busy than TNT.

    • @cancercentral9997
      @cancercentral9997 Год назад

      Buzzsaw didn't really have a line in its later years, but neither did any other ride following the Thunder Rapids accident. Buzzsaw takes up such a tiny plot of land that it makes no sense to remove it to help fit in Steel Taipan. They could've moved Steel Taipan slightly, and perhaps even not at all. Was such an iconic part of the skyline and it'd be cool to have them both. Perhaps it was removed to emphasise Steel Taipan.
      Buzzsaw did have a fair amount of downtime and closed for weeks or even months at a time.
      At least Victorian enthusiasts and park goers are getting themselves a new ride. Hopefully it's issues are resolved. Whenever I manage to get down to Victoria, I'll visit the park. Not only for new credits and experiences, but because there's an aviary there and I wanna see some birbs.

    • @teddym2808
      @teddym2808 Год назад

      @@cancercentral9997 I have ridden it at Gumbuya, it's still got a section that makes your head smash back on the seat hard but other than that it's the same fun ride. The very back seat is brutal and way underrated, the intensity is really up there.
      I was out of my seat half way up the lift hill (and the restraint was tight) and only briefly made it back to the seating position at the bottom of the loop. Hangtime galore.
      I am glad we have it here but if I was Dreamworld I would have painted it a different colour, maybe all black, and have it in the coaster skyline with Taipan. The massive loss they sold it for (unheard of really) does go to show how much they must have hated it though. I mean they sold it for a few hundred K AUD and bought it for millions. It must have just been a bad investment for them all round. I never really waited long for Taipan either TBH when I rode it. I wonder how it will be when the GD is open again (if not already)?. I always waited at least half an hour for that one and it could be much longer.

    I'm honestly tired of seeing Blue Fire clones, Mack has shown that they can do great things with custom layouts (Manta, Helix, Star Treck: Operation Enterprise, that massive one in China that I don't know the name of), yet there are more Blue Fire clones than there are custom ones. The moment that I realized that this was a Blue Fire clone with a swing-launch (a gimmick that I'm tired of seeing at this point) any hype for this ride died, not even the spinning back car could save it.
    I left out Copperhead Strike because that ride has never impressed me, this is thanks to Vekoma coming into their own (iirc they unveiled the Shockwave model not too long before that), and the layout just not impressing me. The first half looks like filler to me, sure it's not as bad as Pantheon where that first launch and inversion is basically pointless filler to get to the swing-launch junk, but it still feels half-baked at the start.

    • @CanobieCoaster

      I always favor custom layouts, but I get why this particular layout has been cloned so often. And this one felt more unique thanks to the spinning seats.
