The milkshake cools the hot spice more than soda does. It's the milk more than the cold that does the trick.

    • @SpearM3064
      @SpearM3064 Год назад +5

^ This. Because the casein protein in the milk helps break down the capsaicin, which is what makes the spice hot. Think of casein as a detergent - attracting, surrounding and helping wash away the oil-based capsaicin molecules floating around your mouth, similar to how soap washes away grease.

The best is sour cream, imo. What counteracts the spice is the fat. Milk has some milk fat in it, depending on the whole milk %. But sour cream also coats the tongue and mouth better.

Tip for counteracting the hot/spicey sauces is drink the milkshake, not the soda. Dairy is great for reducing the burning sensation. It's why a lot of Middle Eastern and Indian foods have a yogurt-based sauce on the side. It counters the heat from the hot chilies and peppers. Water-based drinks are not effective at doing so.

To be fair though, nothing at Popeye's is actually that spicy. Even the "spicy" items on their menu. And, apparently, the spice is SUPER toned down for the UK market. But then again, a fair amount of people in the United Kingdom rated cinnamon as "too spicy" for them in a survey a few years back. Cinnamon. lol

I was expecting to see different noodles, different cheese, and some cheese crust on the side of the cup. Its a shame everything can’t be done the same everywhere. You can make a Cajun seasoning mix very easily at home. These are the basic ratios for one that is a little less spicy than the norm, but you can always play with the ratios to get it just how you like it.
    3 parts paprika
    2 parts garlic powder
    2 parts salt
    1 1/2 parts black pepper
    1 1/2 parts oregano
    1 1/2 parts onion powder
    1 part cayenne
    1 part thyme
This is great on baked or fried fish, chicken, in stews, in sauces and gravies, so many uses.

How appropriate, Millie announces she loves ice tea wearing a Kentucky shirt. She couldn't be more American if she was sitting on a big front porch on a swing watching her American flag flying. Mashed potato and gravy on some sandwiches just works, it shouldn't but it does. Was a great reaction. Can't wait to see what you think about biscuits and sausage gravy.

Happy to see you guys got the full Popeye's experience with them getting your order wrong. It's really good though.

If you take the hot wings and dip them in the ranch it will cut the heat down some.

I love how wholesome and happy these two are to eat fast food. Meanwhile, here in America, we eat Popeye’s alone in a depressing apartment questioning all life choices that led us to this point.

Fun video, congratulations on your baby and ps the ranch dressing helps with the burning, always try a dip in the ranch if the description says "hot" or "extra spicy" lol

Loved the reaction, and glad you two liked the food. That is one more step on your way to being American. You got the same experience the vast majority of get regularly with ordering Popeye's and they inevitably get something in the order wrong. I'd be curious what your dad thought about it as well since you let him try some. And yes, absolutely do more of these reactions when the opportunities arise.

Popeye's is a chain restaurant that is probably in most states. We have several in Los Angeles, CA. Biscuits with butter and honey are really good too.

I worked with a black gent who knew about BBQ, he opened my eyes on the potential of BBQ. Although he did not like cornbread. Just hated it. I told him that cornbread and BBQ is synonymous. I hope he opened the restaurant he dreamed of and served cornbread!

My favorite Mac and Cheese is the homemade kind. Elbow pasta with white sharp cheddar cheese. Make a rue, butter..flour...milk..add the cheese...toss in some of the usual spices, place in a bake dish, layer the top with the rest of the shredded cheese and bread crumbs then bake for about an hour. Yum

Guys, Being from Louisiana I can confirm it is indeed pronounced (Lu-wee-zee-ana) not (Loo-zee-ana) lol...I love Popeye's, It's the go to party food for sure, I remember getting 100 pieces every year for mardi gras. I didn't know Popeye's made milkshakes lol...and popeye's fries are amazing, but they aren't as good when they cool off, they have to be fresh. :)
