I have watched like 10+ reviews of this mic and yours is the first one I've seen with such great cinematography. After the 3rd one, all the reviews started to blend together but yours was a delight to watch
@@CaptainScorpio24 I've bought it and If you are on a budget or don't want to waste money. Then this is a great buy. But there is one thing that I didn't expect. Depending on your voice(high pitch or lower). You'll have to work on the EQ afterwards. My voice is a little boomly. So, it took a little while for me to find the right EQ setting.
@@ajsarsfield I totally liked the sound quality that you demonstrated. I was first going to buy the newly launched rode podmic (usb + xlr). But this one I think offers pretty much all what the rode offers, all that in half the price. Ordered already. Thanks again!
After watching Maono PD400X review videos, yours is the best overall. I'm going to buy an low profile boom arm microphone. But, don't know which one's strong enough for Maono PD400X. Hunting down the final microphone is fun, but picking one is another story (Maono PD400X, MOVO UM6 or Samson Q9U). Excellent video, Nightow1!
Sounds great. The capacity to work with a usb in a phone is really really forward thinking since short form content done in Podcast style seems to be the way forward. Cheers for this my dude.
IKR!!! I'm a huge fan of tech that is multipurpose! Anything that can be used by both beginners and more Pro creators is a BIG win in my book.. it allows you to purchase it once and not HAVE to upgrade for many years..
Great video as always! It is really impressive how well this mic works with a phone. I wouldn't have thought with only 20% gain you would be getting that quality of sound!
IKR! I was very suprised!! However I assume its device specific, as my phone was like 20% but my pc needed like 40% for some reason 🤷🏼♂️ Either way it still sounded great via USB+XLR its a great option if you need a mic that does both 🔥
@@ajsarsfield That is really interesting! Definitely sounds like it is device specific. Yeah that flexibility of both USB+XLR makes it a really versatile mic!
Great review, I am having the setup of a Maono PM500 (condenser mic) with a Maono PS22 source interface, it is a nice setup. However, I am also look for a Dynamic Mic (all-in-one), for some occasion/situation needs. This PD400X seems like the best alternative for me. Thank you.
This was a great video! I'm in the market for a new microphone and this looks to be the one for me. I do have a couple questions for you though. You mentioned around the 2:45 minute mark that you were using the xlr cord for the mic and that you had a bunch of filters applied to achieve the sound we were hearing throughout the video. Were those filters applied via goxlr's software and are they the same settings you use for you sm7b? Also would it be worth it to get the goxlr even if I'm not using multiple computers/multiple inputs? Worried that it might not be worth all that money just for one microphone when the goxlr team has already been scrapped
Slightly different settings... I didnt add as much compression for the Maono ( 4:1 instead of 5.6 ) And also I didn't need to add as much treble on the EQ to this, its less "dark" sounding than the SM7B.. If you're going the Streaming/XLR route then most of the time I advise looking at Elgatos Wave XLR interface and if you can afford it add a streamdeck plus as well. Basically that's the same price as a full size GoXLR but will actually get updates and can do almost ALL the same stuff as well as control PC and OBS too Only downside is you lose a bit of I/O compared to the GoXLR But that doesn't matter if you're only using 1 PC.. You don't even NEED the Streamdeck+ to start with but having physical dials n buttons to control volume n settings etc is really helpful
@@ajsarsfield Thank you for the reply and for your answer! This was really informative and definitely got me closer to a decision. Your channel is awesome btw. Went ahead and subbed! I think I'll likely go with that Wave XLR and Streamdeck+ combo you recommended 👍
Can you please suggest some good audio interface for this mic? Doesn’t have to be too expensive or doing many other things. Just a basic interface that goes well with this mic with a richer sound output. Thanks!
Does the dual output (USB & XLR) of PD400X operate alternately or can they be used simultaneously? If they can be used simultaneously, is it possible as a backup in case one of them encounters an issue? How about PD200X? Can the USB & XLR be used simultaneously? I appreciate your help.
It does work at the same time! BUT there's the potential risk of interference depending on your interface and audio setup.. I used these mics at the same time via USB and a GoXLR but I think becsuse the goxlr was also plugged into an outlet that electricity cause a quiet buzz/whine sound when recording.. I didnt get chance to test it in a non wall powered interface so don't know if that makes a difference 🤔 Youd have to test if you pick on up
I need to know something, please. Could you please confirm if the DSP saves the profile on board? Like when you set a compressor in the bundled software then connect the microphone to an android phone, does it keep the setting?
Those arms WILL work (I used to have a Rode procaster on one) But being a cheap option they arent really built to last, So unlike more expensive ones, they'll probably get looser over time, especislly with heavier mics.. OK to get you started but defo should be upgrade down the line
yeah those super cheap ones aren't great...🙃 Couple of options ( Might cost a Little bit more..) The Fifine Low profile mic arm is a good "budget" but not super cheap option - amzn.to/3xrnTde And I think they do a standard Scissor arm too which is a bit more sturdy than the Very cheap ones.. - amzn.to/3xjZ5nm ( still not the best though) I personally use an Elgato mic arm but that's closer to £80 - amzn.to/4aHlXeR All depends on your budget!
Hello Nightow1! I had a question about your audio setup. Can you make a video or reply about what the best audio setup is now that goxlr is dead and no more updates are coming out for it?
I will be doing this soon! 🔥 (Gear is in the post) I'm personally moving over to an Elgato Wave XLR & a streamdeck+ 90% of the functionality of the full size GoXLR for a similar price.. However if you already have a GoXLR then you can just buy a streamdeck+... Use the GoXLR as just a microphone interface and then the SD+ as the audio controller/mixer with Elgatos Wavelink software...
