I have these and I would sum up the tuning like this: Mids are laid back as there’s a constant bass emphasis that provides presence at basically all times, but it interferes with the midrange. You need to crank the sound a bit relative to some other IEMs to bring the vocals to a proper level and make the music come alive. The highs are smooth and inoffensive. These IEMs have a pretty wide nozzle, so be aware of that. For me, it’s not painful, but I can feel it and it doesn’t disappear like on some others. The shape of the IEM shell is very comfortable for me. The stock cable is very easy to live with. It doesn’t pull too hard on your ears, it isn’t stiff, and okay looking. It’s not a tight twist so there are some inconsistencies to its construction which draw attention to it (for me), but otherwise it’s a very nice cable. Wish it were modular. This set takes to EQ really, really well. In fact, there’s a setting on Qudelix in the Auto EQ that fixed everything I didn’t like.
This IEM is Tip and source sensitive and must be used with wide bore tips. It doesn't like too much power. I use low gain, balanced DX240 AMP8 MKII. Bass doesn't go into the mids with the right tips.
@@keithb5612 I have not tried those, sadly, but have heard great things. I currently rotate these with Night Oblivion Butastur and occasionally Artti T10.
@@DenisDamulira23 yep im using the moondrop mis foam tips and they are far better than all included tips. you can't use tips that block the end of the nozzle with these.
Glad to hear the M5est comparison since after the Dusk was such a massive jump from the B2 Dusk I was interested, but the bass is so phenomenal that I'm not interested in compromising on that. It's like 4dB or even more below my preference, but so deep, dynamic and textured that it's a real wow factor for me.
Hi, nice review! I managed to demo a pair of mega5est and coming from a sony z1er, it still impressed me. Just ordered the mega5est ytd, can't wait for it to arrive sometime next week.
Great review. Was debating between getting the Mega5EST and the newly released I/O Volaire but ultimately went with Mega5EST as they do offer custom designs for about the same price so I can get them in a more fun and bright colour combo. Can't wait for it to arrive
I have the mega5est, for me (with the right tips) it's perfect. The impact is on point and and the treble is not too sharp yet still resolving. I've demoed the dusk, I find it too harsh, I'm a tad treble sensitive, so take that as you will. As a side note, the mega5est is oddly tip sensitivity unsure on what is causing that, but it's the best IEM I've heard to date. Not to mention that it EQ's very well, for those looking for that extra little spice, EQ can get that.
im sensitive to treble as well , if you want a fun iem you could try phoenixcall. Seems for me good aswell but only on my primedac thats more analog and neutral. btw tips that worked for me are Moondrop spring tips and Divinus.
AZLA Sedna Xelastec upped up the bass physicality and made the mids and treble more vivid. This IEM is very tip sensitive and sound changes accordingly, but this is perfect for me. This is a very special IEM. Using it more vs my Monarch and Anole VX etc.
Nice review! I was interested in the Mega5est after seeing DMS's video but going down to my local audio shop and talking to people, I heard that it might be over hyped after that video and its just "okay". Your video definitely helped clear some of that fog for me so thanks! I really hope to demo a unit one day
No ;no solo es un Tuning bien logrado en el mega5est; sino que tiene unos excelentes medios graves a cualquier precio ; incluso me pareció mejor que el Oriolus monacha de 2k en ese apartado
It looks really nice and your recommendation means a lot to me as so far your recommendations for me have been on point but right now I think this is too much for me lol. A shame but maybe next year.
For that price, all IEMs should come with cables with interchangeable connectors. I'm a balanced boy, but having the options for other connectors is nice.
There is a chat available on their site, and I bagged for 3.5 adapter, and now I got a reply that they will send the whitewhale(the stock cable) arranged into 3.5.
@superreview 5:57 Just fyi, i requested a 3.5mm cable via email after putting my order in and they had no issue sending the same cable but with 3.5mm termination with the IEMs. Really excellent IEM too!
Great review, as always Mark. really happy you got your hands on the set and did this review. The timing couldn't be better. On my set I had to do a lot of tip rolling to get them just right. I ended up using the Divinus Velvet tips in ML. A few things. Hisenior does have a very nice interchangeable cable (comes standard on the Okavango), that I'm certain they would swap out at no cost. They also do custom 3.5mm on the white whale. Not sure if they charge for that? They also have a bunch of custom shells you can order for the Mega5EST and you can get them in Custom fit as well by supplying a 3D scan of your ears or your ear molds. They do a lot of musician customs. As for the Dusk, I'm hoping to make it your way next month and perhaps over that coffee I can have a listen and A/B it to see what you're talking about with regards to the tuning.
I prefer non swappable as well. Some are done really well though. The GM upgrade cable is excellent. They screw in and you can’t tell. The SA6 MK2 cable locks as well. But I get what you mean.
Good point, didn't think of Meteor. They're quite different, Megafest is pretty neutral while Meteor is a strongly-colored sound. As an only IEM, I'd take Megafest for sure, but as a portfolio IEM the Meteor is a bit more special.
Be careful with that carrying case if you take it on a plane. It has no pressure relief valve so you'll struggle to get it open due to the pressure change from altitude. I speak from experience with a similar model, lol
I think people have to note that the Mega5-EST actually graphs quite similar to the Mest Mk2 until the upper mids and treble although they both are on the more recessed side. The Mest Mk2 are my endgame IEM along with many others and I think that those who are looking for something similarly tonally to the Mest Mk2 with a tad more vocal clarity, the Mega5-EST.
Hi, I'm coming from hexa, and debating whether to get dusk or the mega5est as my one and done IEM, what would you recommend between the two? Is it worth it to get the mega5est if its only a 100$ difference? Or just go with the dusk? Thanksss
6:16 the previous colorful faceplate and clear shell stood out more. I'm surprised they're calling this dark blue version the anniversary edition, because it looks generic by comparison
I am also surprised by how often I go to the Canon 2. It has incredible bass texture, and it plays rock guitars really well. It ends up in my ears a lot. Still waiting for my Dusk to compare to. May have to keep both though. I've been intrigued by Megafest, but I think I will pass for now.
Hello @SuperReview !! Can this Mega5Est reach the level of the EJ07M or Kinda Lava in technicality and tuning? They have similar graphics. Have you had a chance to compare it to your Kinda Lava? Thanks!
Yeah, I run my Dunu sa6 mk2 balanced on spring tips, and I haven't run into a single iEM that can justify its price to performance over it. $1000-$2000 iem all have been sold and my Sa6 Mk2 is my choice every time. So rich, sparkly, impacful, and very easy to drive at low volumes while still sounding clear and dynamic. I was able to even pick my faceplate I wanted for the Dunu, something that they don't normally do and got it tax-free with 2-day delivery for under $500 brand new direcrly from Dunu. If there is new competition in this price range now, im still not hearing anything from this review to prove it's worth it. Sounds like they exchange impact and dynamics for mid range focus, and that's not enough to make me run out and spend $500. But great review nonetheless.
Would you take the mega5est over the variations for the a similar price? We seem to have similar preferences so I’m curious what you think. Also would you take the S8 over either still?
Canon 2 grows on you, right? The vocals are so textured, so pure, that I prefer the switches in down/down to that I can focus on those mids. i'm using Penon Liqueur Orange tips. Oh, I also eq the mids down 2db at 2k... I think I'm growing to appreciate a relaxed pinna gain.
Maybe surprisingly, the N3's bass is not great -- the treble is the best part of the N3 IMO. I haven't heard them back to back so not sure how they'd compare directly in treble, but definitely Canon bass is better.
@@SuperReview not surprising, because bass performance is not just dependent on the bass amount or the shape of the curve in the bass region. if the upper frequencies are kept the same, the higher the bass level, the slower the bass transients and the more blurry the bass texture. and relatedly i feel some eartips seem to not seal as well as others and they make N3's bass better, simply by making the bass level lower.
@@SuperReview To follow up on this: they are definitely a keeper. At first I liked them but didn't love them. They sounded good but a bit thin with less bass overall then the graph had me expecting. how do custom molded monitors compare to the universal counterparts? if these monitors are very tip sensitive, would a custom option eliminate that problem, or is it better to have the option to tip roll the sound to taste?
I personally don't bother with custom earphones, it's too difficult to predict how they will sound after being built, too much going back and forth on adjusting the mold, etc. Unless you're performing on stage and you need the stability, IMO not worth it.
curious about Hype 4 recent graphs, look very much like this one. old graphs a few months back were typical Thie mild V but now they seem to have finally ramped production on this tuning
Mm, Megafest is a bit contrastier, stronger separation between instruments, better definition all around, though in terms of overall enjoyment TBH I like both. 41t ends up sounding a bit more relaxed, hazier, and warmer.
@@SuperReview Went with the 41t; it arrived last weekend, and I can confirm it is the chill neutral I was searching for. It's a nice compliment to the Hexa because the resolution is similar but different enough in how they are tuned and present the music technicality-wise.
Yeah it’s available in 4.4 or 3.5se. When I got mine a few months ago I ended up with the 4.4mm also despite requesting the 3.5mm, as the seller didn’t have the 3.5 in stock and I was too impatient to wait a week for it 🤷♂️🤦🏼
Mark, sorry for getting oot, but which cable is being used on the Dusk? Looks so nice I'm also glad you also include the Canon 2 as comparison, you are one if not the only one who still give it spotlight. Bought the Canon 2 from your video, couldn't agree more about the bass, just something super special about it.
Similar levels, different strengths. Studio4 image is a bit wider, Megafest depth a bit better from more consistent bass, Megafest texturing a bit better.
You can't get better technical performance than you get because the details depend on the audio signature,You seem to be inclined to a neutral sound with a brightness touch, unlike the graph you have chosen for your favorite sound signature.
Yeah similar tonally, but Megafest is definitely stronger in the separation between instruments, and smoother overall. A bit bassier. But if you like Hexa, you'll love Megafest.
I can't see spending that amount of money considering the performance of the Hidizs MP-145 (US$120), ARTTI T-10 ($50), or even the CCA Rhapsody ($35); at their resp. AliEx sale price points. Maybe if the IEM was built with precious metals or genuine jewels would I accept such pricing. I have a colleague who dumped $4000 on custom IEM's about 5 years ago...makes me laugh. That investment didn't age well. The cable reminds me of my IvipQ 2-Core (Single Crystal Copper Silver Plated)...which costs a whopping $15.
Interesting iem. There is two versions. Seems like the Hype goes to the Mega5EST 7 Anniversary Edition. The Thieaudio Prestige LTD is the direct endgame upgrade from this iem. Tuning is similar, yet the Prestige LTD is more detailed, stages larger, images better, has better layering, basically a more refined endgame Mega5EST. Yet, wheres the hype for them......
A reviewer that sticks to 3.5 mm termination exclusively? Kind of silly, if you'd ask me. This cable is balanced, OK then use a nice DAC/AMP or a DAP or, a desktop amp which accepts this termination and enjoy the IEM for goodness’s sake! Or replace this perfectly fine cable with a single-ended one and do not make that much fuss about the damn termination! Move on already: do not mention this in every video of yours! Great review, as usual. Thumbs up.

Pardon, but how does this compare to the Dunu DaVinci ? IEMs are usually super bright for me. Kato is unbearable and has bad timbre. I’m a musician of 35 years. Alba is much better. But lacks details and needs EQ. I do EQ all my headphones and IEMS Cheers
For comparing Giz and my graphs, use the Delta targets to normalize. Our measurements are quite similar. For The Headphones Show, they're using a completely different rig that is going to produce different results. If you're EQing to a target, make sure the target you're using is made for (or compensated for) the rig you're reading.

Yeah it’s available in 4.4 or 3.5se. When I got mine a few months ago I ended up with the 4.4mm also despite requesting the 3.5mm, as the seller didn’t have the 3.5 in stock and I was too impatient to wait a week for it 🤷♂️🤦🏼
Is the Hisenior 5 est 7th Anniversary set comparable to the Thieaudio Oracle og iem?
Been a while since I heard Oracle, the one I heard was brighter than Megafest but similar technical performance I think.
Many thanks @@SuperReview
Okay. Waiting for Elysian Pilgrim and Simgot Supermix4 review
Okay.
How do they compare to the XENNS Mangird Top?
Top is more contrasty and exciting, a bit less natural.
@@SuperReview Thank you, Mark!
Hey, what are your thoughts on Pelikan Ineo P6?
Never heard of it.
@@SuperReview
Yeah, there are very few reviews available of it on RUclips. It's an entry-level fountain pen Pelikan makes.
Which Tips are you using?
These are Audiosense A400 or something.
Mark, sorry for getting oot, but which cable is being used on the Dusk? Looks so nice
I'm also glad you also include the Canon 2 as comparison, you are one if not the only one who still give it spotlight. Bought the Canon 2 from your video, couldn't agree more about the bass, just something super special about it.
Looks like a customized Moondrop Chu 2 cable.
As @wongcr said, it's a Moondrop Chu 2 cable, with an added bead as a chin cinch.
How is this against the Kinda Lava?
Mark are you going to review the p1 max mk2 tuning looks pretty good for $130
Probably not sadly.
@@SuperReviewmark this or Oracle? If you had to pick a Tribid ?
Do you know if your review was the „original“ or the „retuned“ version?
It's a newer unit.
@@SuperReview Do you plan to acquire the original version to review and or update the Squiglink database to include both versions?
On technicalities... does it compare to Studio 4, Mark?
Similar levels, different strengths. Studio4 image is a bit wider, Megafest depth a bit better from more consistent bass, Megafest texturing a bit better.
How does it compare to the Supernova?
You can't get better technical performance than you get because the details depend on the audio signature,You seem to be inclined to a neutral sound with a brightness touch, unlike the graph you have chosen for your favorite sound signature.
I don't think the graph explains it.
We need companies to copy this tuning and try get better subjective qualities with better implementation and drivers.
I'm not gonna argue with that, though the execution here is already quite nice.
u shld check out the Alpha omega RA and Volare
Frequency looks same as Hexa's except 8khz is less . How do they compare?
Yeah similar tonally, but Megafest is definitely stronger in the separation between instruments, and smoother overall. A bit bassier. But if you like Hexa, you'll love Megafest.
@@SuperReview Thanks!
MP145 review, Pls
Performance and quality aside, seems to me that it's simply not priced high enough to warrant a review.
@@jb678901 we should let the super review decide as he also reviewed extra low price iem like chu, 7hz zero and even quark.
@@jb678901🤣🤣🤣
We demand the lyrics to the ending song now
There's like 5 more verses you haven't heard yet, just wait.
Hahaha loved the outro song
Awesome, my wife is really annoyed by it :P
Please do more 30 to 60 dollar iems yo. I'm looking for some great sounding dark brown coloured ones.
Any recommendations anybody?

And so are you!
Hi there Mark. İ think we have same tonality preference. For under 50$ what do you prefer? . Appreciate it 🙏🏻

Damn, the Ai outro song is Super*.

Mega5-EST or I/O Audio Volare? 🤔
Megafest.
18:05 hi sénior mega 5est
Hola Mr.
Priced reasonably imo
T10 is a value titan
Interesting iem. There is two versions. Seems like the Hype goes to the Mega5EST 7 Anniversary Edition. The Thieaudio Prestige LTD is the direct endgame upgrade from this iem. Tuning is similar, yet the Prestige LTD is more detailed, stages larger, images better, has better layering, basically a more refined endgame Mega5EST. Yet, wheres the hype for them......
Price to quality ratio
Looks like you dont give below 3* to any iem

A reviewer that sticks to 3.5 mm termination exclusively? Kind of silly, if you'd ask me. This cable is balanced, OK then use a nice DAC/AMP or a DAP or, a desktop amp which accepts this termination and enjoy the IEM for goodness’s sake! Or replace this perfectly fine cable with a single-ended one and do not make that much fuss about the damn termination! Move on already: do not mention this in every video of yours! Great review, as usual. Thumbs up.
It seemed the IEM was available only with a 4.4mm cable, which I find pointless and inconvenient -- worth mentioning.
I think Mark is from California
Define "from."
@@SuperReview I used to live in LA. I just think your accent is from California. Could be wrong...
Yeah I've lived in California since I was six.
@@SuperReview I miss it so much. I grew up there from 7-10 years old. Attended school in North Hollywood. What I miss most is the coast...we used to drive through the canyons and drove down to the beach (Paradise Cove near Malibu) listening to funk with the ocean breeze in our hair...damn...those were the golden days....
Pardon, but how does this compare to the Dunu DaVinci ? IEMs are usually super bright for me. Kato is unbearable and has bad timbre. I’m a musician of 35 years.
Alba is much better. But lacks details and needs EQ. I do EQ all my headphones and IEMS
Cheers
Blessing3 dust is better than mega5est?? Wtf
Hype. Hype. Hype.
MegaFESTivus for the rest of us 🎄
4 stars and not 5 is almost a hype killer at this point with this IEM
no, it's the mega5est the hype is in a different price range
@blorg8206 I would probably put Megafest in the top 10% of my collection, FWIW.
Why don’t you like bass
I like stereo width and imaging. And bass.
Megafast? Mega 5 est
3 reviewers, 3 different measurements - Very frustrating, especially if you want to EQ...
Which 3?
@@SuperReview DMS (The Headphone Show), Gizaudio, and you
For comparing Giz and my graphs, use the Delta targets to normalize. Our measurements are quite similar. For The Headphones Show, they're using a completely different rig that is going to produce different results. If you're EQing to a target, make sure the target you're using is made for (or compensated for) the rig you're reading.
@@SuperReview According to gizaudio measurements vs the Crinacle 2023 target, the treble region is quite linear.
