  • Russia's President Vladimir Putin has given his first one-on-one interview to Western media since 2019 - to a controversial right-wing US talk show host.
Tucker Carlson is a former Fox News host, a key ally of 2024 election candidate Donald Trump - and a vocal opponent to US military aid for Ukraine. He travelled to Moscow to conduct the interview, which was broadcast on the 'Tucker Carlson Network'. The Russian president used the occasion to push for recognition of Moscow's interests - depicting Russia as a victim of Western betrayal and fearmongering.
Carlson left Putin largely unchallenged. In video from Tucker Carlson Network, some questions led to jokes rather than real answers.
For more on this, we talk to our correspondents William Glucroft and Roman Goncharenko, who are standing by to help us.

It is sad as I have defended traditional media all my life, they were while they existed as true Journalism the most important part of all democratic regimes, which to work properly with right checks and balances require integrity in the news...the fact is I cannot in good conscious defend them no more, its total complete bankruptcy!

Its interesting that all mainstream media cover interview by pulling `keypoints` out of wider context. When you see it on one media, than you list it and get echo chamber in other media, and you can fact check it in a matter of 30 minutes. On a matter of single interview, which to be honest frankly did not brought anything not known to already informed people, it revealed how twisted and simplifying mainstrem media are en masse. So by mimicking one another in distortion they contribute in synergy to their demise and discreditance.

Most of the criticism, Hillary Clinton in particular, was before the interview was aired. Whether you like Tucker Carlson or not, no one else got the interview, but it is something that was necessary. You always need 2 sides of the argument, and the fact that Carlson allowed Putin to speak instead of interrupting like Piers Morgan style I think was very calculated, so he didn't get kicked out or arrested. Anything that Putin said, can be analysed, fact checked and verified. I'm only half way through it, but it gives an insight into Putin's thinking, no matter if you agree with him or not. There is over 2hrs of points being made, and you focus on a joke about Nordstream. Tucker asked, Putin answered. I thought it was very straight forward. Focus on the answers to the questions asked, rather than what was not.
