This is fucking BRILLIANT. I cannot overstate how much I love this. Because I've seen this so many times and have analyzed it almost frame by frame, here are some brilliant details I want to point out: - Not entirely sure if this is intentional, but when the trio sings T'Noy Karaxis, it shows Pete, and then when they sing Nibblenephim, it shows Steph, which are the specific Lords who single them out later in the song - Once again, not sure if this was intentional, but when chased by Pokotho in the nightmare sequence, Grace puts her hands over her ears - The Blinky rollercoaster ; reference to Watcher World!! - At the end of the nightmare sequence when the trio is falling into the hands of Wiggly, Grace is praying - User @gltchundertale2756 already pointed this out, but Wiggly is standing on the stage whereas all other Lords are standing at the trio's level, because Wiggly is the ruler of the Black and White - At the end when all the Lords are shown individually, Ted's screaming shadow appears in the Bastard's Box for a few frames, referencing Time Bastard - Lastly, I love how your design of Blinky shows him with many pupils in one eye. Very offputting and fitting :)
I like the expressions of the kids as they do the chant showing the different levels of trepidation between them: -Graces’ face is completely straight and determined, she seems to have no qualms about using the Lords in Black’s power or at least is not openly afraid of it, foreshadowing how by the end she’ll harness their powers in full in her quest to punish all dirty dudes. -Peter is the most openly afraid, he looks at Steph nervously and looks around fearfully as they do the chant, self explanatory. -Stephanie strikes a middle ground between Grace and Pete, she looks at Pete nervously as they sit down showing she’s afraid of what the LiB might do to him but as she looks at Grace her expression changes to match Graces own steeled determination, partly because she knows the LiB are their only hope and partly because she’s not as worried for Grace since she doesn’t like her very much. Then as she says Nibbly’s full name she almost sneers disgustedly, she doesn’t want to do this but there’s no other choice, foreshadowing her eventual reluctance to pay the LiB’s price (or fuck off).
Oh this is gorgeous, my god. I ADORE how you illustrated the eldritch nature of the lords in black, and all those transitions between them with the coaster and the mouth and the toy box maze AH! So good! The expressions, they use of colour, the character designs, your style, I loved it the first time I came across you and I love it all over again. Thank you for making this!
I was literally gasping at the transitions, it really manages to show off this eldritch feeling of only scratching the surface, in the most delightful way. You can tell they're "restrained", in that you aren't really seeing them fully, and ahh it's so creatively showing off each Lord in all their overwhelming might
1:20 is so brilliant. You barely have like just enough time to process what you're looking at before they shift forms again. Really captures the eldrich horror vibe when you pause and look at the silhouettes too.
0:18 The leaves falling off teasing the shadowy tentacles of the LiB. 0:22 I guess everyone in that family feels dread after hearing that name, for good reason. 0:33 The branches becoming the darkness of the LiB circling the kids is so cool. 0:49 Wiggly first showing up as just shining eyes like he did in Black Friday. 0:51 I'm so used to the stage version that I was waiting for the screams of the audience. 0:57 The LiB as a colorful swirling mass is both terrifying and pretty. 1:03 Pokey's blue sh*t from tghdlm. 1:07 Binky's amusement park from Nightmare Time 1-2, also I just want to highlight the look on the kid's faces in this frame. 1:11 Nibbly must feed from Nightmare Time 2-1. 1:15 Tinky looking at the toys in his toy box from Nightmare Time 1-4. Also I love the look of the box with a maze inside that turns into a clock pattern on the outside. 1:20 The fuzzy Wiggly doll from Black Friday, also the order the LiB show up in is the order they're said in the ritual like how in the master cut of the show they give us a close up on each LiB in that order. 1:21 Before we see the LiB in their full glory we see the silhouette of their doll forms. 1:25 In this spinning shot we see them in a pentagram position like what they were going for in the staging of this show. 1:32 Starting here we see that certain part of the LiB are shaded differently, the mouth for Nibbly, the mask and goo for Pokey, the box for Tinky, the eyes for Blinky, and the crown for Wiggly. 1:33 Poor Ted stuck in the box. Also is it just me or does Tinky's messy hair look like goat horns and ears. 1:34 Blinky having multiple eyes under his glasses, like he's barely keeping his human disguise together. 1:35 Again Wiggly is just a pair of eyes like in Black Friday. Thank you for letting me point out the details I saw in this video.
To add to your second point, the order the names were said (Blinky, Tinky and Nibbly) lines up with who shows up of screen: Grace (we’ve been watching you Gracie), Pete (a Spankoffski) and Steph (Stephanie yum yum)
I love that you didn't just capture the energy of the characters in your own style, but the actors playing them, too. Setting aside obvious giveaways like Joey's lankiness and Jon's voice, I'm convinced that I could've picked out Joey, Mariah, Corey, Curt, and Jon as their respective characters had I no knowledge of the show. Especially Curt lol. Like that's literally just his face 🤪
Was obsessed with Blinky’s phone with the eye when I realized the beautiful connection between social media, observation, and (from what I remember of Watcher World) Alice’s attachment to her phone. Such a great detail!!
1:21 I love the little motion bump each Lord has when the black pulls away to reveal their human form. It's a nice subtle way to give that feeling they're "settling into" their human forms
literally all i could ever want out of the introduction to the lords in black, i am obsessed with how you present them, all the little references from watcher world to the bastard's box to honey queen it is just SO GOOD ! and god i really love the fact that their attempts of being in "human form" are still a little flawed, like with pokey leaking goo from his face, to tinky having goat-like characteristics, to blinky hiding his multiple eyes behind the human form's glasses. the amount of detail in this is insane!
I just got introduced to them now and I'm plkeased to know this was one of the best possible outcomes! I love all their designs, and I already have a favourite (the goat one). I checked the comments and saw the blue one in connection to TGWDLM and I was like "OH, so YOU'RE responsible for allat!" and had a brief wave of agression/ns, though that one's def because the Apotheosis incident was the first Starkid musical I really got into and the only one I've actually watched in full, and so is the only one so far in which I'm really attached to the characters. But the mind control with a twist thing is one of my favourite concepts they've come up with So like, that one I also really like on principle. I don't know a LOT of these other references but honestly the cinematic universe has opened up to me and I think I will try exploring it! even if the humor isn't really to my liking most of the time, there's some gems on the soundtrack that I've thought really hard about before, and I'm sure it'll be worth it, right? I mean, there's not THAT much content, right...? "eldritch gods in human disguises but they're either misinformed, disinformed or just don't give that much of a crap" trope my beloved, also Honey Queen. Have no idea what that one's about but I'm lowkey kinda scared haha
Omg I love that you decided to give Blinky an eye smartphone. I think he was the only one in the live version who was missing a prop that represented his motif. You see, each one of the lords in black in their human version has a prop that represents them (I based this on a tumblr post): Nibbly: a lollipop (represents his hunger for people who want power), Tinky: the bastard's box (represents his ability to travel in time and his interest for people who want to change the past), Pokey: a theatre mask (represents his ability to steal other people's bodies and "impersonate" them via their want for the thing they cherish the most) and Wiggly: a wiggly doll backpack (literally represents him and he represents the want for more than you already have). Blinky's EYEphone could represent him and the want for knowledge (social media drama and gossip) and also how he delights watching human madness. I loved this animatic a lot, this is incredible! I always thought Blinky’s prop was meant to be the glasses (he pulls them down to peer above the frame at one point) however I prefer the phone since that speaks more to the variety of ways his themes seem to manifest and how he targets Alice, a girl obsessed with her phone and social media. It’s not just that Blinky’s watching you. It’s that you know you’re being watched, that you’re being spied on, that you must then perform for the watcher or be punished, that you will be judged, that you WANT to be seen, and your own desire to watch and know and judge and perform for others. So a phone (and by extension social media and news websites and even the camera function) fits him way better thematically. Wiggly’s prop could be the crown (prom king, leader, most powerful and POPULAR guy in school) but it could also be the Wiggly doll backpack he’s wearing. Either way it’s not just about how he’s the most powerful of the LiB or the leader, but how out of all the Lords he is the one about being worshipped directly. With the others being worshipped is more incidental to their other themes, Wiggly’s entire thing is about being popular and worshipped and adored directly. And prom king is basically a popularity contest.

I didn't know how much I needed Nibbly with bangs over his eyes or Blinky with a-thousand-eyes-in-one and a smartphone, but gosh, I did :') I was already pretty obsessed with the Lords in the stage version, but this introduction you made before they appear in person is simply amazing! Probably my favorite interpretation of the Lords in Black so far - also at 1:23 Wiggle's entrance goes hard animation-wise, holy sh*t! Makes them all look so cool! ^^
OMG this is so amazing ! I love the forbidding ambiance as they summon the Lords and how they absolutely play with the teens upon being summoned before finally assuming a human form.
So many nice details about the lords in black! The blue goop from tgtdlm and pokey, the rollercoaster from watcher world and blinky, the toy box from tinky and the nerds being inside it, nibby "eating" them and the green spotlight eyes of wiggly from the iconic black friday reveal. I also love that when blinky lowers the glasses he has a shit ton of eyeballs in one eye socket. The animation is so fluid and well done, matches the song so well, great job!
One of my favorite things about Animatics/Animations made by fans is how they can elevate scenes like this one. The actors in NPMD protraying the LiB did a fantastic job of appearing otherworldly with their bizarre mannerisms and jagged movements. But this animation frees the scene from the limits of Humans on a Stage. It really captures the menace and mindbreaking hirror that summoning a quintet of mad Trickster Gods like this would bring about. Bravo!
Dude, I am legit like feeling Courage the Cowardly Dog levels of disturbed by this on so many levels! The way the entrance of the lords was not only perfectly represented by the different Nightmare Time storylines they influenced but the way the whole sequence when they take their “human forms” was Beetlejuice like! Very well done!
It's animatics like this that really make me wish we'd be like the Disney Renaissance and Animated a bunch of musicals because this is exactly why they were amazing!! On stage this scene was unsettling and creepy, but overall kind-of stiff in the Preformance, but only because they were limited by what they could do; it is just a stage play after all. BUT THIS!! This brings it all to life in a way you just can't in any other medium. The weirdness, the chaos, the demented giggles as the old ones tearing the fabric of reality out from under your feet!!! Perfectly captured!
Fucking LOVE how you draw the nerds. This is KILLER stuff. If any starkid musical were animated, I'd want it to be this one, and by you, because JESUS it's all PERFECT. Good job! I'd hardly call this an animatic at this point, closer to a complete animation by a long shot.
i like to think that the Lords in Black purposely took on the faces of some of Grace, Steph and Pete's dead friends/ family instead of just the actors playing multiple roles lol. Also I like to think that your design of Nibbly actually doesn't have eyes under his hair. (THIS VIDEO IS SO GOOD RAAHH I WANT TO EAT IT)

this is literally my fav starkid related thing of all times now the summoning is one of the best starkid songs ever, and your portrayal of them is absolutely perfect the transitions, the fluid animation, the lords in black going from colors to horrors to puppets to people (well, flesh suits), everything blends so well together i was kinda on the fence abt if i wanna watch nightmare time, but now i can def say its gonna be worth it

can I watch this forever and ever and tattoo every frame on the back of my eyelids because holy shit this is incredible. I love how you draw all of the characters, especially Steph's body type she looks so good, and the big space of the gym makes them look so small in such a effectively horrifying way. I love Pete's expressions and his big wide anxiety filled eyes, it's so good. it's so cool how the gray pallet gets darker right before getting super colorful it's so fun and visually amazing and aaaa so creative. I am so obsessed with the scenes of the trio running from each lord in black with the water and roller coaster and maze. also Pete and Steph holding hands for one second aa I love them. you simplified the lord in black faces at 0:53 in such recognizable ways. the faces at 1:06 are so funny they are so confused ghjkhjk. all of the transitions are so genius and cool and I have no words other than cool tbh it's so indescribably cool. the perspective on the legs at 1:14 looks really good too. and then that split second of Pete and Steph holding onto each other at 1:17 ohhh I am so insane about them and about this animatic. Grace praying as they fall is such a good detail, every action is so in character for all 3 of them. the perspective spin and the book closing at you zoom in aaaa so so cool everything about this animatic is visually appealing. love the Ted in the bastards box detail at 1:33. the little extra details you added with the lords in black make them even cooler. I love the detail of Tinky's hair having the silhouette of a goat head and Blinky's eye phone. I am like in shock of how good and cool this is and how well you capture the character's personalities as well as how scary the lords in black are and your art style is just amazingly expressive as well which is like the cherry on top
I don’t even know what this is from, but I love how you used color in this! In an otherwise black-and-white animatic, having these demons(?) be eye-catching bright, poppy colors is kinda more terrifying than if they were all voids or somethin, it feels unnatural and it’s perfect. I’ve always loved how intentional you are with color symbolism in your animatics (Ship In A Bottle specifically comes to mind, of course), and your skill really shows off here, I love it!

OKAY THIS IS THE MOST PERFECT VIDEO EVER. Im an AVID starkid fan and an even MORE crazy lords in black fan and the attention to detail in this is PERFECT. The animation is SO SMOOTH and the details make everything better. Wiggly being on the stage to signify his leadership, Blinky having the rollercoaster, Pokey having the water, Tinky with his toybox, Nibbly eating them, ITS ALL TOO GOOD OH MY LORD!!!!!!! there is not one imperfection here, it's just so beautiful. The attention to nightmare time and the hatchetfield universe as a whole is just RAGHDGHSGHDGSJB!!!!!!
im so excited to watch this! having now watched it: that was beautiful, I love how the lords in black were shown first through changing scenery - how bigger than life they are and that they are concept and fears. Only after that, do we see them in human form. It isnt their actual form but just a courtesy they chose to give.

this is incredible- the animation quality is really good, the transitions are so creative, i love how you put so many references to the nightmare time episodes! like blinky holding the phone, and ted being in the box at the end. this is amazing!
Omg I’ve been waiting for someone to make an animatic of this, and am so happy one of my very favourite RUclips animators took up the mantle! Literally my only complaint is that I’d give anything (or maybe I should say whatever you want) for the rest of the song, but ahh it’s so good, incorporating little bits of the different lords’ lore from NMT was such a good touch, and the transition for Tinky’s toybox was so smooth! Also the creepy themepark ride for Blinky was so fun! It reminded me a little bit of the opening for the old Beetlejuice cartoon! I love that you really took what was there and ran with it and made it larger than life as the Lords in Black are!
I have to say, thank you SO MUCH for making this animation, I stumbled upon it a month or two ago, and it introduced me to Hatchet Field and Star Kid in general, so thank you for influencing one of my biggest hyperfixations in a while!

OMG there's so many things about this vid that i'm obsessed with, there's a lot of details here and there that i can't get over 0:16 there's a bit of an establishing shot of the trees which shows that they're normal so it's even more weird when they turn into tentacles later 0:22 focus on peter at mention of t'noy karaxis (intentional or not, good detail) 0:25 focus on steph at mention of nibblenephim who calls out to her later (again idk if it was intentional) 0:48 wiggly's eyes resemble how he shows himself to President Goodman in Black Friday when they're in the black and white 0:52 i like that tinky's eyes resemble goat eyes to give him more of a distinction, as well as blinky "the watcher of a thousand eyes" literally having a bunch of eyes 1:00 i don't think anyone's said this but the transitions showing the LiB in this segment go in the same order that they switch their dances to each other in the actual choreography of this song, very nice detail! 1:01 think i said this in another comment but i love how pokey comes in like a meteor about to crash, because he sent a meteor to hatchetfield in tgwdlm 1:06 they're riding the tear jerker! obviously being a reference to watcher world lol 1:13 the inside of the toy box being a maze is really cool! 1:17 you can see steph and pete hugging so cutee 1:19 it looks like grace is praying when she's falling? thats funny lmao 1:20 they seem to take the appearance of the dolls but really really big, probably another way of disguising their true forms before showing themselves as teenagers. i like the usage of color here, the main identifying objects of the LiB like nibbly's mouth or pokey's mask are made more bright. 1:25 the perspective here is really really good it almost looks 3d! and Wiggly standing on a raised platform to show he's the one with highest power is neat 1:33 i think this may be a reference to a bonus content vid for NPMD where in concept blinky would've had a phone with a big eye for a screen? not sure but that would be insane!
I love the way you animated the reveal for Wiggly's human appearance. All of their slide away reveals were amazing(I dont remember the actual name for that but I'll just say slide show esque) and Wiggly's was a favorite just because you really god his big presence down with him holding his hands out like a performer, and the one one up high on the stage, to show he is the strongest and the leader of his siblings. You did such a great job, it must have taken so long to make this!
I LOVE how you got creative with their summons by pulling the main 3 into an alternate dimension to really show the personalities of the Lords of Black! Each has such a dynamic character so also highlighting their colors while the “real” world stays in black and white was also beautiful
I've been going through a rabbit hole of Starkids stuff and came across this! My first thought is how amazingly smooth everything is, I was so surprised at just how STUNNING many parts of this are. Like there's a full turnaround of the characters at one point, and unbelievably clear symbology for each of the Lords in Black. It was a total surprise when I went to the channel and just shouted "OH MY GOD ITS YOU" because your videos are always amazing. Now it all makes sense.

I love how Peter looks deeply unconfident in what they’re doing and Steph looks like she’s trying to hide how much she’s dreading whatever’s gonna happen, but Grace is completely locked in. Cute little foreshadowing for what she ends up doing with the tome once Max is dealt with.
I've had to watch this thing dozens of time and I keep finding new details. I just noticing someone screaming from inside the cube at the end. Just wonderful work, and great attention to detail and the lore and previous works of these stories

Oh my goodness, this is amazing!! The way you portrayed each of the Lords in Black is so cool! You really incorperated their vibes from Nightmare Time perfectly and that entrance is so iconic! When the lights went out and wiggly's eyes lit up i actually squealed
This is absolutely stunning. Perfect length, great use of animation, I LOVE the designs for each Lord and ALSO that you chose pastels to represent them! Its somehow even more intimidating because it makes them seem childlike!

My best friend and I rambled about this animatic to one another via Discord for a solid 10 minutes, which has got to be the biggest testament to its artistic value possible. This is amazing in ways I don't know how to articulate. Just so many little details pulled off so well. Nice job.
just watched this with my girlfriend and we both loved this! i especially love how it's the "real" world that's black and white and the Lords in Black are so colorful, it really genuinely comes off as super threatening and alien
i dont comment often but you need to know how amazing this is. My jaw literally dropped and my mouth was agape the entire time the lords in black were singing. I love the references to each lord's stories in previous shows. I just watched Nightmare Time so I'm a little more excited about seeing these things but it's still so cool. this animation got me into the whole Team Starkid Hatchetfield lore, and now rewatching this makes everything make so much moresense! the way Pokotho/Pocky is represented with blue goo (reference to The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals?, and also reminds me a little of Otho in the very last episode of Nightmare Time season 2), Blicklotev(?)/Blinky being represented by a theme park ride (referencing Watcher World), Nibbleheffim/Nibbly being a mouth that swallows them whole (reminds me of Honey Queen), T'noy Karaxis/Tinky being a maze/labyrinth and then a box (reminds me a lot of Time Bastard), and then Wiggog Y'wrath/Wiggly being fluff and two big lit up green eyes (very reminiscent of how he appeared in the Black and White in Black Friday)

This is fucking BRILLIANT. I cannot overstate how much I love this.
Because I've seen this so many times and have analyzed it almost frame by frame, here are some brilliant details I want to point out:
- Not entirely sure if this is intentional, but when the trio sings T'Noy Karaxis, it shows Pete, and then when they sing Nibblenephim, it shows Steph, which are the specific Lords who single them out later in the song
- Once again, not sure if this was intentional, but when chased by Pokotho in the nightmare sequence, Grace puts her hands over her ears
- The Blinky rollercoaster ; reference to Watcher World!!
- At the end of the nightmare sequence when the trio is falling into the hands of Wiggly, Grace is praying
- User @gltchundertale2756 already pointed this out, but Wiggly is standing on the stage whereas all other Lords are standing at the trio's level, because Wiggly is the ruler of the Black and White
- At the end when all the Lords are shown individually, Ted's screaming shadow appears in the Bastard's Box for a few frames, referencing Time Bastard
- Lastly, I love how your design of Blinky shows him with many pupils in one eye. Very offputting and fitting :)

I like the expressions of the kids as they do the chant showing the different levels of trepidation between them:
-Graces’ face is completely straight and determined, she seems to have no qualms about using the Lords in Black’s power or at least is not openly afraid of it, foreshadowing how by the end she’ll harness their powers in full in her quest to punish all dirty dudes.
-Peter is the most openly afraid, he looks at Steph nervously and looks around fearfully as they do the chant, self explanatory.
-Stephanie strikes a middle ground between Grace and Pete, she looks at Pete nervously as they sit down showing she’s afraid of what the LiB might do to him but as she looks at Grace her expression changes to match Graces own steeled determination, partly because she knows the LiB are their only hope and partly because she’s not as worried for Grace since she doesn’t like her very much. Then as she says Nibbly’s full name she almost sneers disgustedly, she doesn’t want to do this but there’s no other choice, foreshadowing her eventual reluctance to pay the LiB’s price (or fuck off).
Oh this is gorgeous, my god. I ADORE how you illustrated the eldritch nature of the lords in black, and all those transitions between them with the coaster and the mouth and the toy box maze AH! So good! The expressions, they use of colour, the character designs, your style, I loved it the first time I came across you and I love it all over again. Thank you for making this!

literally all i could ever want out of the introduction to the lords in black, i am obsessed with how you present them, all the little references from watcher world to the bastard's box to honey queen it is just SO GOOD ! and god i really love the fact that their attempts of being in "human form" are still a little flawed, like with pokey leaking goo from his face, to tinky having goat-like characteristics, to blinky hiding his multiple eyes behind the human form's glasses. the amount of detail in this is insane!
I just got introduced to them now and I'm plkeased to know this was one of the best possible outcomes!
I love all their designs, and I already have a favourite (the goat one). I checked the comments and saw the blue one in connection to TGWDLM and I was like "OH, so YOU'RE responsible for allat!" and had a brief wave of agression/ns, though that one's def because the Apotheosis incident was the first Starkid musical I really got into and the only one I've actually watched in full, and so is the only one so far in which I'm really attached to the characters. But the mind control with a twist thing is one of my favourite concepts they've come up with So like, that one I also really like on principle.
I don't know a LOT of these other references but honestly the cinematic universe has opened up to me and I think I will try exploring it! even if the humor isn't really to my liking most of the time, there's some gems on the soundtrack that I've thought really hard about before, and I'm sure it'll be worth it, right? I mean, there's not THAT much content, right...?

Omg I love that you decided to give Blinky an eye smartphone. I think he was the only one in the live version who was missing a prop that represented his motif. You see, each one of the lords in black in their human version has a prop that represents them (I based this on a tumblr post): Nibbly: a lollipop (represents his hunger for people who want power), Tinky: the bastard's box (represents his ability to travel in time and his interest for people who want to change the past), Pokey: a theatre mask (represents his ability to steal other people's bodies and "impersonate" them via their want for the thing they cherish the most) and Wiggly: a wiggly doll backpack (literally represents him and he represents the want for more than you already have). Blinky's EYEphone could represent him and the want for knowledge (social media drama and gossip) and also how he delights watching human madness.
I loved this animatic a lot, this is incredible!

I always thought Blinky’s prop was meant to be the glasses (he pulls them down to peer above the frame at one point) however I prefer the phone since that speaks more to the variety of ways his themes seem to manifest and how he targets Alice, a girl obsessed with her phone and social media. It’s not just that Blinky’s watching you. It’s that you know you’re being watched, that you’re being spied on, that you must then perform for the watcher or be punished, that you will be judged, that you WANT to be seen, and your own desire to watch and know and judge and perform for others. So a phone (and by extension social media and news websites and even the camera function) fits him way better thematically.
Wiggly’s prop could be the crown (prom king, leader, most powerful and POPULAR guy in school) but it could also be the Wiggly doll backpack he’s wearing. Either way it’s not just about how he’s the most powerful of the LiB or the leader, but how out of all the Lords he is the one about being worshipped directly. With the others being worshipped is more incidental to their other themes, Wiggly’s entire thing is about being popular and worshipped and adored directly. And prom king is basically a popularity contest.

Probably my favorite interpretation of the Lords in Black so far - also at 1:23 Wiggle's entrance goes hard animation-wise, holy sh*t! Makes them all look so cool! ^^
OMG this is so amazing ! I love the forbidding ambiance as they summon the Lords and how they absolutely play with the teens upon being summoned before finally assuming a human form.
So many nice details about the lords in black! The blue goop from tgtdlm and pokey, the rollercoaster from watcher world and blinky, the toy box from tinky and the nerds being inside it, nibby "eating" them and the green spotlight eyes of wiggly from the iconic black friday reveal. I also love that when blinky lowers the glasses he has a shit ton of eyeballs in one eye socket. The animation is so fluid and well done, matches the song so well, great job!
This slaps so much!!! The summoning is a bop and you made the Lords in Black look so cool! The colors and transitions??? Rad. 10/10 stuff

One of my favorite things about Animatics/Animations made by fans is how they can elevate scenes like this one. The actors in NPMD protraying the LiB did a fantastic job of appearing otherworldly with their bizarre mannerisms and jagged movements.
But this animation frees the scene from the limits of Humans on a Stage. It really captures the menace and mindbreaking hirror that summoning a quintet of mad Trickster Gods like this would bring about. Bravo!
Dude, I am legit like feeling Courage the Cowardly Dog levels of disturbed by this on so many levels! The way the entrance of the lords was not only perfectly represented by the different Nightmare Time storylines they influenced but the way the whole sequence when they take their “human forms” was Beetlejuice like! Very well done!
It's animatics like this that really make me wish we'd be like the Disney Renaissance and Animated a bunch of musicals because this is exactly why they were amazing!!
On stage this scene was unsettling and creepy, but overall kind-of stiff in the Preformance, but only because they were limited by what they could do; it is just a stage play after all.
BUT THIS!! This brings it all to life in a way you just can't in any other medium. The weirdness, the chaos, the demented giggles as the old ones tearing the fabric of reality out from under your feet!!! Perfectly captured!
Fucking LOVE how you draw the nerds. This is KILLER stuff. If any starkid musical were animated, I'd want it to be this one, and by you, because JESUS it's all PERFECT. Good job! I'd hardly call this an animatic at this point, closer to a complete animation by a long shot.
i like to think that the Lords in Black purposely took on the faces of some of Grace, Steph and Pete's dead friends/ family instead of just the actors playing multiple roles lol. can I watch this forever and ever and tattoo every frame on the back of my eyelids because holy shit this is incredible. I love how you draw all of the characters, especially Steph's body type she looks so good, and the big space of the gym makes them look so small in such a effectively horrifying way. I love Pete's expressions and his big wide anxiety filled eyes, it's so good. it's so cool how the gray pallet gets darker right before getting super colorful it's so fun and visually amazing and aaaa so creative. I am so obsessed with the scenes of the trio running from each lord in black with the water and roller coaster and maze. also Pete and Steph holding hands for one second aa I love them. you simplified the lord in black faces at 0:53 in such recognizable ways. the faces at 1:06 are so funny they are so confused ghjkhjk. all of the transitions are so genius and cool and I have no words other than cool tbh it's so indescribably cool. the perspective on the legs at 1:14 looks really good too. and then that split second of Pete and Steph holding onto each other at 1:17 ohhh I am so insane about them and about this animatic. Grace praying as they fall is such a good detail, every action is so in character for all 3 of them. the perspective spin and the book closing at you zoom in aaaa so so cool everything about this animatic is visually appealing. love the Ted in the bastards box detail at 1:33. the little extra details you added with the lords in black make them even cooler. I love the detail of Tinky's hair having the silhouette of a goat head and Blinky's eye phone. I am like in shock of how good and cool this is and how well you capture the character's personalities as well as how scary the lords in black are and your art style is just amazingly expressive as well which is like the cherry on top

I don’t even know what this is from, but I love how you used color in this! In an otherwise black-and-white animatic, having these demons(?) be eye-catching bright, poppy colors is kinda more terrifying than if they were all voids or somethin, it feels unnatural and it’s perfect. I’ve always loved how intentional you are with color symbolism in your animatics (Ship In A Bottle specifically comes to mind, of course), and your skill really shows off here, I love it!

Wiggly being on the stage to signify his leadership, Blinky having the rollercoaster, Pokey having the water, Tinky with his toybox, Nibbly eating them, ITS ALL TOO GOOD OH MY LORD!!!!!!! there is not one imperfection here, it's just so beautiful. The attention to nightmare time and the hatchetfield universe as a whole is just RAGHDGHSGHDGSJB!!!!!!

having now watched it: that was beautiful, I love how the lords in black were shown first through changing scenery - how bigger than life they are and that they are concept and fears. Only after that, do we see them in human form. It isnt their actual form but just a courtesy they chose to give.
I gotta say how much I love the kids themselves, the lords in black are obviously great but I love how you've interpreted their mannerisms so uniquely from one another
As someone who’s very recently got into starkid, and this being my favourite song in NPMD, you can imagine how the little goblin in my brain spring to life as I saw this. Well done!

Omg I’ve been waiting for someone to make an animatic of this, and am so happy one of my very favourite RUclips animators took up the mantle! Literally my only complaint is that I’d give anything (or maybe I should say whatever you want) for the rest of the song, but ahh it’s so good, incorporating little bits of the different lords’ lore from NMT was such a good touch, and the transition for Tinky’s toybox was so smooth! Also the creepy themepark ride for Blinky was so fun! It reminded me a little bit of the opening for the old Beetlejuice cartoon! I love that you really took what was there and ran with it and made it larger than life as the Lords in Black are!
I have to say, thank you SO MUCH for making this animation, I stumbled upon it a month or two ago, and it introduced me to Hatchet Field and Star Kid in general, so thank you for influencing one of my biggest hyperfixations in a while!

0:16 there's a bit of an establishing shot of the trees which shows that they're normal so it's even more weird when they turn into tentacles later

I love the way you animated the reveal for Wiggly's human appearance. All of their slide away reveals were amazing(I dont remember the actual name for that but I'll just say slide show esque) and Wiggly's was a favorite just because you really god his big presence down with him holding his hands out like a performer, and the one one up high on the stage, to show he is the strongest and the leader of his siblings. You did such a great job, it must have taken so long to make this!
Their shadows being Wigglys teeth is genius and terrifying.
I LOVE how you got creative with their summons by pulling the main 3 into an alternate dimension to really show the personalities of the Lords of Black! Each has such a dynamic character so also highlighting their colors while the “real” world stays in black and white was also beautiful
I've been going through a rabbit hole of Starkids stuff and came across this! My first thought is how amazingly smooth everything is, I was so surprised at just how STUNNING many parts of this are. Like there's a full turnaround of the characters at one point, and unbelievably clear symbology for each of the Lords in Black. It was a total surprise when I went to the channel and just shouted "OH MY GOD ITS YOU" because your videos are always amazing. Now it all makes sense.

I love how Peter looks deeply unconfident in what they’re doing and Steph looks like she’s trying to hide how much she’s dreading whatever’s gonna happen, but Grace is completely locked in. Cute little foreshadowing for what she ends up doing with the tome once Max is dealt with.
I've had to watch this thing dozens of time and I keep finding new details. I just noticing someone screaming from inside the cube at the end. Just wonderful work, and great attention to detail and the lore and previous works of these stories

just watched this with my girlfriend and we both loved this! i especially love how it's the "real" world that's black and white and the Lords in Black are so colorful, it really genuinely comes off as super threatening and alien
i dont comment often but you need to know how amazing this is. My jaw literally dropped and my mouth was agape the entire time the lords in black were singing. I love the references to each lord's stories in previous shows. I just watched Nightmare Time so I'm a little more excited about seeing these things but it's still so cool. this animation got me into the whole Team Starkid Hatchetfield lore, and now rewatching this makes everything make so much moresense! the way Pokotho/Pocky is represented with blue goo (reference to The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals?, and also reminds me a little of Otho in the very last episode of Nightmare Time season 2), Blicklotev(?)/Blinky being represented by a theme park ride (referencing Watcher World), Nibbleheffim/Nibbly being a mouth that swallows them whole (reminds me of Honey Queen), T'noy Karaxis/Tinky being a maze/labyrinth and then a box (reminds me a lot of Time Bastard), and then Wiggog Y'wrath/Wiggly being fluff and two big lit up green eyes (very reminiscent of how he appeared in the Black and White in Black Friday)
