Silvuddy's Notes:
Kanto: The first battle theme ever heard in Pokémon, in that first fateful battle with your rival! The GSC arrangement adds some cool syncopated elements to distinguish it from the original, though not all of the original melodies are present. The HGSS version amends this and gives us a full arrangement of the theme in all its glory. The FRLG remake adds some awesome guitars and drum fills, but we also got not one, but two high fidelity remixes in LGPE, one with orchestra and the other with synths!
Johto: This one may not be as memorable as the original, but I'd say it gets you in the spirit of battle just as well, if not more! The remake rendition adds some transition moments, so mashing the two up would take some extra steps to fill in the gaps.
Hoenn: The more realistic instruments that came with the GBA soundfont started trainer battle music on the slow path towards more fun and less serious compared to its predecessors. The ORAS version exemplifies this well with the brass and strings, though there are still dark moments highlighted by timpani and other such instruments.
Sinnoh/Hisui: Very similar in tone to the Hoenn version, but the new soundfont gives it a unique character! The BDSP remix emulates the feeling of the original though using modern synth instruments. The version from Legends: Arceus goes a completely different direction; it's almost unrecognizable as the same theme with the amount of weird time signatures, but still just as groovy!
Unova: The sequel version might not sound that different, but they definitely open with different drum patterns, and the sequel has a more pronounced bass line. The Battle Subway version is quite different though, with melodies and instruments changed at every turn along with a pounding kick drum to add a lot of intensity.
Kalos: This one making use of the 3DS's new sound capabilities for the most realistic instruments up to this point. I believe the electric guitar is what gives the Kalos battle theme its unique character among the rest.
Alola: At this point we've gone full into fun battle territory and almost completely forgotten how serious battles can get. There is one part with the electric guitar riff that's somewhat dark, but the rest of it is just enjoying Pokémon's version of Hawaii! The USUM version leaves a bit to be desired with its slower pace and reliance on synths, but we still get the version from the original games when battling Trial Captains!
Galar: This one is somewhat underrated in my book; I love how it introduces and then remixes the same ideas multiple times! There's a really cool reference to the main Pokémon motif at the end of the loop, played on an electric guitar.
Paldea: The intro riff actually plays on loop if you stay in the conversation with your opponent before triggering the battle itself. The actual battle theme itself is fun but maybe a bit lackluster when compared with its alternatives from the past.

This is the same for " Battle! (Wild Pokémon) " and " Battle! (Gym Leader) ", there are subtle differences but they are here
Also, I made a mashup with the three " Battle! (Wild Pokémon) " (including " (Strong Wild Pokémon) ") and the three " Battle! (Trainer) " (including " Battle! (Battle Subway Trainer) ") and others like " Battle! (N) " or " Battle! (Reshira/Zekrom/Kyurem) " (yes, there is also difference between Reshiram and Zekrom theme (yet in " Pokémon Black & Pokémon White: Super Music Collection " the two themes are in one the first lap is the Reshiram version but when it loop ones it turn into the Zekrom one)

In my opinion the HGSS Kanto Trainer and Unova Subway Trainer are the best trainer battle themes

Pokémon legends Arceus battle theme is so good and intense which fits the battle because of how dangerous Pokémon are in the game you and the trainer are putting your lives in danger for fun and the music really fits that
Since I hadn't actually played the main series, hearing it after the Hoenn theme and recognizing it as the same tune was a total shock.

My blood is boiling every time I listen to the kanto battle theme from fire red and leaf green. It just sounds so menacingly!
Yeah that one is my favorite and it is so dramatic. It sounds like the battle will decide the fate of the world. Most of the themes gen 7 onward are way too late laid back and don't have enough oomph

I haven't heard the scarlet and violet trainer theme till now because I never battled any trainers. Not because I didn't want to, but because they never outright challenged the player. Never specifically ran into them, so I never gave it much thought. All of my exp came from raid battles, team star bases, gyms, and the titans lol
you realize you have to fight trainers before fighting Iono right? this theme plays when you fight Iono's fans before fighting her in the gym test
@@12kennyo ahh, I thought that was just for gym trainers or smth lol. Either way, SV could've been a lot better but they really fucked up the DLC lol. I can't play the "DLC" bc BB academy makes my Switch's fan run like crazy, and I'd rather not kill my console in order to unlock a feature that shouldn't have been "DLC" to begin with.
@@Squydwardah , and yeah I think it could easily be the best pokemon games , if they didnt rush it and fixed all the performance issues, had the Legends Arceus battle animations because they were so much better, like you worked on both games at the same time , so why didn't you use the same animations as Legends Arceus where if you're doing a physical attack your pokemon actually moves towards the enemy , it makes no sense to me , like im a big fan of Cinderace if you couldnt tell from my pfp lol and they ruined the Pyro Ball animation, in Sw/Sh Cinderace would actually kick a pebble up and down and it would catch on fire then kick it towards the enemy , meanwhile in S/V spawns a fire ball in the middle of the battle , and Cinderace kicks it, GameFreak makes no sense , how was Legends Arceus so polished , yet S/V feels like a slideshow

I never realised there was a difference between the Gen 7 games’ trainer battles, as I only played Ultra sun. Have to say, the original is good but the newer version is more unique
Fun fact: the original SM version is reused in USUM when battling Trial Captains! I like the original more between the two, so I'm glad it returned in some fashion.

The Paldean Trainer theme is honestly underrated. It fits with the fact that the game is an open world like Legends Arceus and Sw/Sh Wild Area.
It makes the battle feel alive and like you're really out on your own adventure, alongside your bestest friends. It also feels nice to have the theme back on track with the old pokemon themes that Gen 7 and 8 somewhat took away for a bit.
ORAS remake of the original RSE is one of the best and Sun and Moon are amazing as well.
I can't decide between these two because both of them are so amazing. ORAS radiates threat but overcoming a challenge whereas Sun and Moon gives off this super cool feeling about having fun!
Sinnoh, especially PLA, doesn't have to hit so hard 🔥😭, prob my fav tbh
Absolute hot take because people are too nostalgic of FRLG but the LGPE version of the Kanto battle theme is peak, the orchestraling of such an iconic theme brings out the best of it. It has attitude and the horns in the song mean it. Hate the game all you want, the music remixes were 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾

The let’s go eevee version of the trainer theme is just insane to me.. the orchestrated theme is by far the best

Mostly familiar with Kanto because I used to watch the anime though I never played the games; what Arceus did to the Hoenn theme totally had me flabbergasted. Unova seems strongly based on the title theme in both versions.
I used to be an USUM trainer battle theme hater but I kind of get it? They wanted to create a distinct intensity when battling trial captains which is nice but also like, I would've preferred a more intense remix of the original SM one for captains instead of the other way round lol
Yeah I agree, the captains should’ve just gotten their own remix or hell their own theme even. B2W2 did kind of remix the original Unova trainer theme, but it was so negligible. If they wanted to update the SM one they should’ve just done minor improvements like B2W2.
I swear I thought it was just me who hated the USUM trainer battle theme. It ultimately got super repetitive back when I played it before Gen 8.
I actually love it, it goes so damn hard for a regular trainer battle theme

It’s not in this video (for obvious reasons) but my favorite trainer battle theme in the series is the Pokémon Stadium rendition of the Kanto Trainer Battle theme.
EDIT: However, after hearing them for the first time in this video, I say both Let’s Go renditions share the number two spot. Whoever composed those two really knocked it out of the park.
Best is Gen 6 trainer battle
Interesting take you don't see often! It's definitely a banger and one of my favorites too!
I like gen 4-7 (the DS/3DS games) renditions best (including all the remakes). For some reason Gen 8/9 music is just not memorable. For example, I only played through White and White 2 once each but I can hum along to every town theme, route theme and battle theme (aside from those you only hear once). I also only played through Sword once, the battle music barely left an impression and certainly not the overworld themes. I like them though, they slap pretty hard, but just not memorable.
The themes for Galar and Paldea just do not click with me... they sound so boring, uninspired and uninteresting.
And that isn't because I'm feeling nostalgic for the past seven generations. They genuinely just don't sound that good or memorable to me.
I know I feel like I have to explain myself when I talk about the new Pokemon games they just don't hit like they use to
@@sadcena7204 There's some good tracks here and there. If the veteran composers are getting burnt out, they could hire some new talent. Like Tee Lopes for example - his music never misses.

I think Paldea’s is good enough but definitely on the weaker side while I full agree about Galar’s.
I can definitely agree with you on the Paldea theme, but Galar's has some really fun parts to it IMO! I would say that while the series has definitely been on somewhat of a decline in many aspects, one that has stayed at the top pretty much the whole way through has been the soundtrack.
Gen 2 is still the best, no contest.

LITERALLY
Honestly just gonna rate this one by number and choosing the best faithful mix out of each one. Keep in mind I'm gonna keep Hisui separate though simply because it's like calling a frenchcore remix of a Mozart piece the same track. It's just not.
1. Sinnoh, perfectly captures the feeling of a trainer battle and is just powerful
2. Hisui, insanely good remix of the Sinnoh theme that is perfect for the game itself, and covers the same beats with new instruments and beats that hit at times even harder than Sinnoh, but I'm giving Sinnoh credit for this cuz it really did steal its whole flow bar for bar
3. Unova, the fact that they incorporate a key Pokemon motif throughout is great, and honestly it's just a bop that fits the region well.
4. Hoenn, this is just a great trainer theme with some good variation and hits every beat a trainer theme should.
5. Johto, because HG/SS goes hard and the trainer theme hits harder when you got those horns blaring and you hit a fade on Joey's lil RATTATA
6. Kanto, yeah yeah I know Kanto goes hard too but I'm a HG/SS fanboy so it's lower here but just know I think both the OG and HG/SS mixes go so hard seriously.
7. Kalos, it feels like it almost hits every beat but it forgets to have a calm moment. Still hits hard when you got those drums kicking and your mega evolved charizard is screwing your opps harder than Oak did Ash's mom
8. Paldea, wonderful that they did the same intro thing that Hisui does, it just elevates the track much more, and they even did a similar thing to Unova with that key Pokemon motif. This track goes super hard, but again it needs a calmer moment to help elevate it because it feels like it stays at 100% the whole time and that can get boring.
9. Alola, it feels almost too calm to be a trainer theme in the first place, but it does actually tell its drums to stop so it gets a +1 for me
10. Galar, I mean it's not a bad motif by any means but my gosh the intro alone might induce a migraine, and it seriously does not tell the drums to stop at all like they just keep going off. It's at 110%, 100% of the time, like slow down, make it simpler, create some calm halfway through to revive the feeling of the track again, don't use the main Pokemon theme in a low stakes battle against a Wooloo, and please add even a hint of intimidation here.
Yeah I honestly think Sinnoh perfected the music formula here but hey the other themes aren't bad they're just not SInnoh.

Legends Arceus wtf I forgot the theme goes unnecessarily hard 💀 I was off tab and came back confused, I never did finish LA whoops.
I have never played any of the Switch games since i havent decided to buy one yet but i would have to say based on what i have played and heard several times, a lot of the music cannot be lower than c tier.

I guess i just started to fade out of the Pokemon games with age around before Covid hitting.
@@z0tw Yeah that’s understandable. Each one is a very different experience, however. My personal recommendation if you had to pick one would be Legends: Arceus. It’s the most tailored to a modern audience of the 5 options and is what I consider to now be my favorite Pokémon game full stop.
The bdsp one gives me flashback to grinding with vs seeker lol
Why not do a vid with every dialogue music like at bell sprout tower or rival

Given how intense the Kanto theme is, I think it's Kanto culture to lock in really hard.

Have to say Paldea is a lot better than Galdar. Galdar is the only theme I legitimately wouldn't listen to again.

I think legends Arceus and HGSS has the best trainer battle theme both are remix of the orginal and both hit hard.
Fr/Lg and hgss kanto theme is hard to choose between
My favorite has to be HGSS Johto, from the beginning and from 22:14 to 22:53 is my favorite battle oriented theme in the series

FireRed and LeafGreen's is a perfect example of a remastered track keeping the same nostalgic elements and spirit of the original, plus more. In contrast to HGSS's Johto battle theme, it sounds overly orchestrated and marchy, over-emphasizing too many strange places throughout the track. What's supposed to be a straightforward exhilarating battle theme sounds like a musical parade. Not the tone that registered in my head when my imagination interpreted the 16-bit version. I know many people like this rendition, but it just doesn't work for me.

Since Sun and Moon. I was kinda disappointed in the lack of trainers. You don't get to hear these often anymore. Plus Violet's overworld music is kinda meh. It's like every province section has the same music(or some provinces share the same.) At least bring back maybe the Vs recorder or the phone so people could call you if they want a rematch. Kinda bland with just wild Pokemon to level up your team.
There's an Ultra Sun and Moon version of the Johto theme too.

Whats the difference between BW and B2W2's themes? They sound indentical to me
VERY subtle, the bass line is the biggest difference. I talked about it in the description. The melody is mostly or maybe even wholly the same between the two, but the bass line and percussion has minor differences, along with some other minor details.
@@SilvuddyPkmnMusic It almost sounds as if they played the same exact song but instead on different sound settings, nonetheless when I was young I didn't really mind because the song was awesome enough for me
They sound similar at a first glance but the more you listen the more differences you'll hear. Like how they're both at different pitches (this might ne wrong but I'm pretty sure different parts of the song are pitched differently), the aforementioned bassline, and the B2W2 version having more going on in the song as a whole compared to the BW version. This is a trend for some of the other BW -> B2W2 remixes as well

Feels like the SwSh theme didn't get enough time in the oven. The mixing (if that's the right word for it) just sounds off, feels like I'm listening to a phone recording of it rather than the actual thing if that makes sense. An issue with a lot of the tracks in the game tbh. It would be awesome if the upcoming Super Music Collection release addresses it.
Its just really cheap synthesizers tbh
