This is going to be SO helpful for people, especially those just getting into the hobby! I was so freaking confused by this when I started out😂 I've seen a number of videos on the differences between sphag moss and coco coir, but little to nothing on the differences between sphagnum moss and sphagnum peat moss😕 awesome video!🌿
coooool! i wish i had been there for you with this video when you were first getting started! but sounds like you know the ropes well now! i also hope it helps some new plant lovers
Many Thanks for clarifying the differences between the two mosses because I was so confused!! I had purchased the two bags of the Sphagnum Peat Moss, however I needed the Sphagnum Moss!! I will go to your store and see what you use! Thanks again!!🙏🏾🙌🏾💯💪🏾💪🏾

I am so excited to find your channel as I have never understood the difference between the two. Your explanation was fantastic & so precise. I have just subscribed as I need to learn more after 10yrs of growing & maintaining my vegetable garden. Cheers Denise - Australia
Thanks this is super helpful! I’ve avoided learning about moss for so long but I just purchased a var heartleaf rooted in sphagnum moss so I guess it’s time to get educated on it 😂
@@plantvibrations Yes, I am now a dedicated plant aficionado with a love for beautiful plants so learning and understanding is essential in order to be successful. Again, thank you for the content.
Excellent video to educate people on the differences and how they ruin the bogs to get peat. Many have videos that mention there are issues then give the information on what percentage is being harvested and hoed quickly it grows back. That aggravates me hearing them put out false information based on half of the information as if it is all the information, kinda like the current government administration. Kudos to you for knowing the truth and telling it all!
Going back _Years I made my own potting mixes always using Peat Moss / Perlite /Vermiculite growing commercial ornamentals... it was b4 Pro-Mix. Assumed their was a never ending supply of Peat Moss, since it was often sold in 50# Bales.
This was not what I was looking for. But if you watch this. You will learn something. I guarantee! I have Spanish moss. For outdoor plants. But now I know that this is the opposite to peat moss..
So this was a cool video but just to clear it up both peat spagnum and long haired spagnum are both an extremely renewable resource harvested from the same MAN MADE BOG at the end of the growing season the top long haired spagnum is harvested and dried for commercial use then drained rooted a few inches and sun dried to harvest the spagnum PEAT moss anyway you made it seem like it's taboo to use peat when in reality both long hair spagnum and peat moss are extremely renewable also when harvested the bog produces way more peat then long haired moss idk I just wanted to let you know there was a wee bit of "moss information" get miss information anyway besides that good video 😂
Thank you for clarifying the difference between sphagnum and peat moss. I always got those confused, which one to use where. Great info!
yes it can be so confusing the way they are labeled sometime! glad to help!
I love how you explain an get right to the point and ask the questions we are asking!

Can you grow sphagnum moss on sphagnum peat moss (in a jar) and put your plants in that?
I’m not sure about that
@@plantvibrations I have a Ceylon creeper that grows in everything. I should take some cuttings and give it a try.
Thanks so much; this was very helpful!
thank you for watching!!
@@plantvibrations you're welcome 😊

i've never used peat in my houseplant mix for fear of being overly acidic, you never experienced any issues with that?
many aroids prefer slighty acidic soil? I have seen large growers use peat in a mix with lots of perlit, chunks etc, very succesfully?
You may be right!
Great! I guess I should have watched before I made the purchase 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
Oh no!
What did you pay for your rare plant? Here in Toronto Canada they cost over $249. 😵💫
it depends which plants!
Is this mainly for tropical plants? How about ferns? Monsteras?
yes this is perfect for Monsteras and ferns!
Will sphagnum bring insects
only if you overwater
Thank you very much Devin! I accidentally bought Hoffman Canadian sphagnum peat moss and now I have no idea what to do with it 🤣 we live and we learn.
It’s great to mix in to your houseplant substrate

Thanks! Yep spanish moss is a Tillandsia
❤

Ahhh ok! Thank you for clearing up that boggy situation!
Could you link any sources from brands that talk about the man made bogs and how they harvest it?
Is sphagnum moss organic?
It is an organic matter, yes
10 minutes to say something that takes 10 seconds....
Ok!
Your video helped me out, totally understand the difference now, GREAT VIDEO,👍✋🪴
