- We made it to Vienna, Austria and today we are heading to a village within Vienna (or Wien, as it's known in Austria) and we are heading to Grinzing--a town known for it's vineyards, traditional wine houses, and of course, delicious wine and Viennese delicacies. Today I'm trying chicken schnitzel, a potato salad, apple streudel, wine, and local Austria beers all of which are my FIRST TIME trying Austrian food and I am SO excited!!!
Quick side note: the place we went to for lunch (Cann't recommend it enough, especially if you get to meet Oscar!) was called "Maly's" and it was a 10/10!!!!
Our Airbnb host gave us this recommendation to see this part of town and we are so glad we did. At the most it's about a 45 minute tram ride from the heart of the city and you will discover how peaceful and beautiful the village of Grinzing is. It's almost as if you drove for hours with the complete change of scenery and beautiful greenery you are immersed in.

Its so overwhelming heartwarming how you speak of my home country. ❤ I am actually not a glowing patriot but this is right the way we want to show.
These types of videos remind me how lucky I am to actually live in this country. We have problems with politics, inflation, “Austria surcharge”, unemployment etc. and then often forget that despite all this, Austria is a very good place to live.
Thank you!
And yes, Schnitzel is awesome.
It sure is awesome! Thanks so much ❤️
omg I love your love for my hometown! If you ever need any tips on Vienna or any insider tips, feel free to ask :)
I really recommend trying non-touristy places outside the first distrcit for food.
Awesome! Love, love, love eating along with you. Craving some apfelstrudel right now.
YAY! Thanks so much, super yummy!
Oscar is straight out of The Blue Lagoon! :D
Austrian Beer is just the essences of real beer: water, malt and a plant called Hopfen in German. No spices or flavorings. If there are flavors, it is called a Radler. (usually beer mixed with lemonade made of lemons).
My grandmother lived on Cobenzlgasse. Always made Apfelstrudel 😂 from the old trees in her yard (right there on the left slope).
I enjoyed your video. It was aa if i was back in austria for q ahort time.Thank you
You get beer everywhere in Vienna, the Heuriger is the place to drink wine😊.
Oskar is the best example that we are not grumpy and unfriendly! haha
That's just Germans 😂
What an adorable little village! Your meal looked delicious. Nice video and Kudos to Oscar!
Thanks so much! It was sooo yummy, we had such a blast!
It ain't no village no more, but a part of Vienna. It is called Grinzing. Greetings from Vienna!
Thank you for this beautiful video, I really enjoyed it. You two are a lovely couple with a wonderful personality. I know exactly how good it tasted because I ate there once and ordered exactly the same thing. Except for the beer, because at a "Heurigen" you should drink wine, but Oskar saved you. I think he wasn't a typical waiter, but a student who worked there. And yes, Grinzing is a beautiful place. Greetings from Austria.
Thank you so much! We had a blast. I’m glad you enjoyed the video, it was truly special to create! ❤️
Bei einem Heurigen ein Bier: ein Sakrileg!
I know, my bad! 😂😭 fortunately, Oskar helped correct me!
3:54 You pouresd it perfectly. In Austria the foamy part is importantl when enjoying a beer. When drinking peepee water ther is no froth.
Oh yeah near to Vienna and in Austria we have some of the oldest wineries in the world
damn now I want to eat a apfelstrudel and a schnietzel!! its the best! xD im so hungry! you are good in making me taste the food youre eating only through your mimic xD
Austria should visit everyone🎉😂❤
😂 Austria cannot visit everyone, but everyone can visit Austria.
@@mick-berry5331 well Hitler tried but it was not meant to be...
It is so nice to see you enjoying Austria! - Next time you visit come to Stammersdorf to see real authentic "Heurigen" in a very different way than Grinzing offers. Grinzing is great and also typical, but it might be a great experience to see the differences of local Heurigen-Culture! They vary a lot while still having something in common :).
Side remark: It is so charming to see you guys eating with the left hand under the table - good manners in the US, but absolutely "no go" here in Austria. Hands remain on the table without leaning on the table. You should never be suspect of playing "pocket billard" while eating or speaking :D.
That’s a great tip! Thank you so much!!!
2 things come to mind when I think of Austria.
Their food & their quality firearms manufacturers (Glock & Steyr).
Such a cool country.
Nice! Haha. We really love it!!
Wiener Schnitzel is traditionally made with veal
I'm shocked, they serve beer at a Heuriger - let alone in Grinzing. Isn't that supposed to be wine only? But then, that food menu is totally off the charts as well ...
On the left side you can see our traditional vineyards, on the right side you can see our traditional bamboo🤪
Awesome, that beer was made in Zwettl. I live in Zwettl!
Whaaat! That’s so cool (and the beer was tasty!)
Very cool !
Thanks so much!
If you have language problems reading the menu, ask the waiter for help. I suspect that translation programs also have a bit of a problem with Austrian "technical terms".
ChatGPT has changed everything. It's so much easier now than it was 2 years ago when this video was posted.
I am actually from this „village“ even though it‘s still inside Vienna and I am so happy that it is getting more popular to come here again. We need many more people coming to eat at our traditional restaurants. It‘s def a hidden treasure.
The dressing for the salad is beef stock, oil, vinegar, mustard, salt, pepper and a lot of sugar :)
We loved it so much! May even visit again this year, you have a beautiful home!
@@JetlagLiv I am happy to hear that! Hit me up if you come i can give you some tips for hidden places that are gorgeous. :)
Herst leise soll auch so bleibn 😂 muss a ned a jeder jetzt daherschwatln. Dann steigen die Preise nuamoi 😂
The plates are from Gmunden
Heimat Liebs . Gmundener Keramik in Österreich is einfach nicht weg zu denken😂
Schmalzbrot with Zwiebel !!!!!!!!
Very nice 👍👍👍
Thank yoU! :)
As I can see, you had Gmundner Keramik-plates. Typical Austrian pattern you might find in a lot of homes.
Grinzing is not a Town it's a Part of The City of Vienna. The City has 24 Parts with Differrent Names like Grinzing, Meidling, Penzing, Hietzing,etc........
Your first beer was „Rotes Zwickl „🍻
Sorry if i missed this but what was the first german beer you did you try at 4:20?
Rotes Zwickel, but i am not sure which company.
Austrian, not German ;-)
@@alistuzlakZwettler
We have a thing called in Bavaria Austria uses the same rules where beer is only made with water , Hopfen and malt that’s why our beer is better than American 😂
The US uses a ton of rice for their beer, hence it tastes different!
Hopfen = hops
Vienna. The only capital city in the world, whos producing their own wine.
Where was the Video taken of you drinking the first beer? Cause in the background the person is talking Hungarian?
Grinzing - it is part of Vienna
Nice Video :D But youre still in Vienna its not a village youre basicly at the end of Vienna thats why its so calm :D
Just a little mistake, you should have the schnitzel from calf, that's the original Austrian, or even from pork, that is the cheaper equivalant.
But, don't mind, as long as tastes fine, we're fine. Greet's from Austria!
Will definitely try that when I’m back in Austria this April - thanks so much! 😁
@@JetlagLiv Do you need a guida or something? If you visit Vienna or Salzburg, I could help you out and show you some places :)
That’s SO kind of you! I will let you know, we aren’t sure of the itinerary yet!!!
@@JetlagLiv The original Wiener Schnitzel always has to be veal or else it is a scam, if its not veal they need to call it "Wiener Art" (Vienna Style" on the menu.
I think weinerschnitzel is supposed to be veal
The original Wienerschnitzel is indeed made from veal, but versions made from pork or chicken are just as popular and less pricey.
and fried in lard or clarified butter
@@mick-berry5331 There is no Wiener Schnitzel without veal, either they name it "Wiener Art"(Vienna Style) or they can get into serious trouble for fraud.
Das Glas beim ein schenken immer schräg halten.... ☝️
Dann entsteht nicht so viel Schaum....
Wow a life presented online really does first and foremost look depressing
You’re drinking beer at a Heurige… plebs ;-)
I hob früher beim Heurigen a immer a Bier trunk'n. Weil i kann Wein mog. Oba die Runde war trotzdem gesellig. Der alte Zahel wird es mir hoffentlich verzeihen...
Apfelstrudel with vanilla sauce is a no go for real Austrians. if You are offered that, You found a tourist trap.
What authentic Austrian desserts do you think I should try? I’m going back in April!!
I respectfully disagree, though it’s true, that it is not popular in many areas.
@@JetlagLiv try cakes, my favorite is Malakofftorte.
Other delicious desserts are:
Nusspalatschinke
Kaiserschmarren
Salzburger Nockerl
And many more :)
Btw: i live in America and long so much for proper beer. Seeing you guys drink made me feel badly homesick, but also Oskar made a nice move in recommending the wine there, because its so authentic there and has a long tradition.
Thank you so much!!!
@@JetlagLiv Kaiserschmarrn, Somloer Nockerl, Salzburger Nockerl, Topfenknödel - there are sooo many delicious desserts!
