As I am very happy that my home Bundesland "Salzburg" was so prominent festured in this video, you might get the wrong idea that Austria is just the Alps. Mainly the western part of Austria is. The east part is rather flat, has beautiful planes and Graz, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Vienna are stunning city's combining century old buildings with modern architekture. Greetings from austria

Austria and Switzerland are breathtaking. Standing on top of a mountain and looking out over a valley towards mountains in the distance, is beyond my ability to describe. I teared up. Beauty like I've never seen before or since.
It's an honor to see this video as an Austrian! I'm glad you were so excited about the landscapes!
Hi Nicki, can you recommend me a big pretty forest i Austria? :)
as a german i have to admit you win landscape-wise ;)

No, thank YOU for watching. Because that is the appeal of your videos - seeing you take the time to watch what is dear and normal to us. Greetings from Austria!
Great reaction 😎 greetings from Austria 🇦🇹
This brings back memories of my childhood, when my family and I went on vacation on Lake Achensee in Austria. You could swim wonderfully in the lake. There in the forest there is wonderful fresh mountain air, streams and small waterfalls are so beautiful. It`s worth it too glass manufactory Rattenberg visit, where glasses were made by themselves.
I always liked Austria as a french ❤ such a great culture 👌
It is always amazing to see people reacting to the Austrian landscape. And I have the privileg to see it every day. Great!
Thanks for that!
Greetings from the beautiful Austria❤️🤍❤️🇦🇹🇦🇹🇦🇹
"Why is it so green?"
If you see the weather forecasts
you will see it has a LOT of rain and snow
We watch 3Sat - a German language channel
that covers Austria, Switzerland and Germany
and Austria is usually covered with rain symbols.
Yeah, this year spring is incredible rainy in Austria, more than usual. We had already floods in some areas. The plants love it though
Yes the grass is always greener on the other side of the ocean. However, Austria also has its problems with the nature. It's not always nice.
@@UlliStein or on the other side of the Alps - that run down the spine of western Austria.
Finally Austria!! :D
I love Austria. We drove through there last week going to and from Italy. It is so, so very beautiful!!!!❤ What is sad, is that we make this trip every spring for the past 26 years, and there seems to be less and less snow on the mountains every year. It’s very troubling.😔
I feel so too, I'm 36, as I was a child I remember that there was much more snow (not in the mounten near Vienna) but now I hope every year that my kids see a little bit snow compared to that we had. But my ount told me the same, as she was a kid there were even more then to my childhood time.
Strange, that I get every year pictures from my uncle, who shows me many centimetres of snow in Tirol. We, who lived and live there know it better. I am glad, I am not leaving there anymore, shipping snow, sometimes 6 Month in the year.
Why you all think, that going through it will tell you the truth, Mainstream Media is giving to you in their Propaganda Machine. Why the people in the German speaking area are so stupid I wonder! And, going trough. Yes, I know does Germans, who are driving every year through the so that we see the fog over the Autobahn. I am glad, I could flee the German speaking area. I am done with this place. There are more beautiful spots on this planet, then bloody Austria. Heuchlerisches Pack!!!
I have better things to do, than give the attention to stupid persons. Buy and do not forget to charge your E-car SUV.
It's very troubling that you don't recognize that we had one of the coldest April (and May so far) in Austria this year and that it even snowed a lot in the mountains (about >1500 meters) within the last weeks. Which is pretty unsual at this time of the year. But with media manipulation obviously many can't adapt to reality anymore.
Hi Ryan yeah we Austrian 🇦🇹 watch your videos and love them!Greatings from Vienna M
When I was a kid I got dragged to Salzburg by my mum and sister because they were both huge 'The Sound of Music' fans and I was bored to death! Years later I went to the Austrian F1 GP on my own and stopped in Salzburg on the way and finally got to appreciate it for itself! Mind you, in defence of my mum and sister I did get to spend my 10th birthday in Vienna!
Having visited 8/10 of the places featured in the video, I can confirm Austria is a beautiful country. As a kid I went there with my parents 5 years in a row during summer holidays and it never got boring.
As someone who travel both usa and austria what i can say is, austria has vibrant and aesthetic look . While usa is valued modern looking building.
I'm English and Austria is beautiful with good food and history. If you go there you MUST try kaiserschmarrn, locally made schnitzel, and einspanner coffee. Also most places are dog friendly and the towns have an old world vibe. Switzerland is just as beautiful. Take a trip where you visit both. Only thing is Switzerland is pretty expensive. You're a cool guy. We'd get on irl.
Groceries: You get them in supermarkets in major towns and cities! Except on Sunday, when everything seems to be closed, unless you go to small local grocery stores or train stations (all stores can be open at Train Stations on Sunday). Yes, Austria is an expensive country to visit, but the trains are excellent, you don't need to rent a car, and can live on the excellent sausages on stands on sale all over the place. Austria and Switzerland next door are very clean places, except for some neighborhoods in the cities that you will not end up in anyway unless you are looking for hookers or to get high.
And Gosau has a (at least one) supermarket.
As an Austrian Australian (Yes were pretty rare but we do exists) I grew up in Feldkirch (Small town bordering Lichtenstein) I find myself incredibly lucky to have grown up in such a beautiful country, W austria.
Love the videos man, keep up the great work
I am Austrian and I would recommend the Leopoldsteinersee its a very beautiful Lake
As a Salzburgian, thanks for this video!
I living in den Mountains in Austria, it is so beautiful the four saisons are so spezial.
I am from Serbia. I live and work in Vienna right now and watch your clips.
Wolfgangsee is an amazing place. Spent two weeks camping last year. Hiking, biking, boat tours or just relaxing there was amazing. The view every morning, unpayable.
Greetings from Austria (nearby Salzburg).
Yeah, Schafberg! This mountain will be one of my next mountains to hike. I just wait that the weather will get more stable. Lovely mountain.
And yes, this are our mountains as well as lakes. Maybe this is also the reason why hiking is very common in the center or west of Austria.
Greetings from Innsbruck 😊 ... Tyrol in Austria
In the middle of the Alps
The reason that there is not many people there is probably because this doesn't look to be filmed in the summer, where many tourists take vacation and go to Austria. I am from Austria by the way. Amazing Video!
Austria is a very beautiful place to be. I live in Tirol on the border to Salzburg. Blessed to live here 😊
I was born in Berlin but grew up in Bad Ischl (now live in Vienna) and yes, it is really that beautiful here. Went swimming in the Wolfgangsee (about 20 minute drive away) every summer. There’s also a summer toboggan run near the lake.
Don’t worry, enough shopping opportunities but obviously nothing like a Walmart. There are often smaller, specialized stores in different villages. If you want to treat yourself you drive to a bigger town/city like Salzburg.
Not too many want to live in Hallstatt directly because it’s rather dark and cold (high mountains all around) and yes, it’s mainly a tourist destination. You should watch a video about the village you can visit the oldest salt mine of the world as a tourist and the history in general is legendary. You can also visit an excavation of graves from 400-800 BC and the „Beinhaus“ where you see (partially beautifully painted) skulls which was/is part of a local culture. After the body decayed the family took the skull and then painted it personalized to honor the family member, they also wrote the name on it. It was seen as a second funeral. It’s not clear why specifically these people were honored in this way but there’s a development in the art.
You can find many old castles and ruins here in Austria, many can be visited. Some offer amazing falconry shows too! There’s lots of local folklore and traditions too, some stories are really cool.
Never seen The Sound of Music? That made me go there. Oh the coffee and cake, such superlative bakers
@2:38: we have a supermarket/grocery store in almost every town :D One thing we do not have in Austria is food shortage :D
Shocking!!!!!!! I remember beeing at the very same spot at Pasteurize Glacier, when i was a boy, the glacier even passed the very spot further down a was all the way i estimate 100 feet thicker ice layer. i knew the glaciers melt, but i did not see the amount of on one same spot in decades. WOW!!!!!
Also beautiful places, Burg Hochosterwitz, Wörthersee and Milstätersee in Carinthia. There are a lot but this 3 are my favs.
Maybe we are living in a really small country, but I am proud of it, especially on the fact, that we are neutral together with switzerland, in the heart of europe. I live in western austria, Vorarlberg, close to swiss border. Together with the swiss, we do speak a special dialect, which is called "Allemannisch", which is very, very old. Our "Arlberg" region was and is a place for rich people to enjoy the winter - monarchs, kings, queens and celebrities, together with russian oligarchs love to do skiing there. I live in a lush an green region, called "Bregenzerwald", in a small village with a little below 1000 inhabitants. Seeing your reaction on our beloved little austria makes me really proud! Thanks for sharing that!
As a Austrian 🇦🇹 I’m happy to see this and it's not true that these places look like they do in the video, but much more beautiful in real life. I was not yet
everywhere there but at the most. Love from Austria 🇦🇹❤
Ps It’s really funny how you pronounce these words but it’s actually pretty good for an American (No hate)
Also as an Austrian I can say those where just the peak of the ice mountain. We have so many more beautiful locations, I think to visit all, you need to stay at least 2 months 😂😂 for example he was just a 15min trip away from BadAussee/ Altaussee which have the clearest Lake with high drinking Water quality in Europe! I mean i life here since 33 years and still didn't see all of it!
Cool reaction thank u😊😊
Hallstadt is still operating. It is the oldest saltmine in Europe. Work started here even bevore Roman times, in the bronze age.
Dude i have watched so many Videos, didnt See i havent even Subscribed... Dang... Did it now :) Please more reactions to austria!! Greetings from Austria :)
Not wanting to diss the video, but he kept mostly to one area only. We also have beautiful plains, very different kind of mountain areas and of course very beautiful cities in Austria.
Also the titles were full of typos 😄 But what I guess I wanted to say was, Ryan, you ain't see nothing yet! ; )
Greetings from the east of Austria. Without Mountains but with castles😂
"This glacier is so cool." - What a pun!
Ah that reminds me to leave my hometown Graz more often. It's beautiful here as far as bigger cities go, but I haven't been to any of the places featured in this video.
3:02 it depends on where in Austria you live, but usually living in cities is far more expensive. Example: I live in a flat with something between 70 and 90 squaremeters in Vienna with my parents and not to long ago we requested an offer to buy it. 300K. In rural areas here that's a quite big house.
However there is still areas that are very expensive, that are not considered as cities. I don't know how much it costs, but I know that living right next to the Wolfgangssee costs almost a fortune.
I'm an Australian currently in Austria on holiday!😊
The Grogklockner High Alpine Road ist closed from end of october to may, because there is snow up to 35 feet in the winter.

05:20 I was a Mailman in Hallstatt for a few years and I had to walk to that house every damn day lol
You are funny, I like it :))
Greetings from Austria
Servus from Austria to Indiana, always exited to see Americans get exited about Austria. You´re always welcome in Austria and in my hometown Graz in Styria / Austria.
Geh mit Amerikanern immer ins Zeughaus, denen haut's das Blech weg.
The meadows get that green not just from enough rain but also by using stinky maneur. Hallstatt is with 2 T on the end - because statt in german stands for "stead" same ending a lot of towns in UK have the -sted ending.
Austria'v biggest problem: I could put in one blick of an eye 10 more as beautiful places on the list like the Wachau with the river Danube or the Lakes in Carinthia, the Galciers in the Tyrol or dark woods of the Eisenwurzen National park.
mooore Austria!
I went to school in Hallstatt (am Hallstättersee) and my sister went to school in St. Wolfgang (am Wolfgangsee) and we both are rly glad we had the luck to got to high school in such nice villages. We live about 1,5h car hours away. So we were living in boarding school first and in flats later. It was amazing esp. in the warmer months.
Austrian here...Sadly, a lot of Pasterze has melted away because of climate change. The place, where that lake is, had been the glacier. Just look for old photos, 50 or 100 years ago.
As my family owns the house at the lake in Gosau ... no, you don't have to be rich to live here. Unlike Aspen. ;) Until Instagram and other social media, this kind of scenery used to be uncool. All the "cool kids" would travel to the Mediterranean. But for some recently, in recent years, the Alps have been rediscovered.
Austria has 9 Bundesländer (a bit similiar to your inner states, every state has its own government) and that was only a part of one out of nine Bundesländer. This is called Salzburg. Every Bundesland, has its own beauty. Because of the alps Austria had to manage living in between of it. And so they got a stunning place to live. Clean, well maintened streets, very safe to travel, and in the houses you saw live the normal average people. of course there are rich people too living in greater houses and villas. And some live in flats and condos too. But these are more the part of the population living in the cities or small towns. Austria is a republic and a democracy. The social democracy is here well lived: all pay taxes and contributions for different things like personal pension, health insurance and the state distribute it for maintaining things like the streets, hospitals, public goods. That system - which is very similiar to germany and swiss by the way - why all looks so well maintained and beautiful.
I bet it's relatively cheap per square meter. Maybe a problem is, that the properties are a couple of thousands square meters big 😜
I wonder how my German and Austrian friends are feeling after listening to his pronunciations and seeing his spellings. I'm an American living in Austria and they made me cringe. At least he had lots of lovely things to say about Austria. I thought it might be interesting for Ryan to know about Hallstatt and how Chinese tourists were so intrigued by it, they created their own replica back home (I think for a soap opera they have there), but they still have brought bus-loads of tourists in to see the original town. Unfortunately, the tourists were confused and thought they were on a TV set and just walked into people's homes. They had to find restrictions to prevent that. It is every bit as enchanting as it seems, like right out of a fairytale.
Ryan, the infrastructure is so well maintained here, including the original design of having so many utilities buried. When I lived in the Midwest in the states, any storm knocked out our electricity and internet, for sometimes days. We've never lost any of that here in Vienna---an absolutely awesome city.
I wish I could have seen more of Austria, I've seen only Vienna - 3 times though but only there :( My grandma was born in Vienna in 1016, even though she was Polish. It could be fun to do a research and find the exact place where my great-grandparents could have lived in Vienna.
wow your grandma is so old probably a wr 1007 years 😄
As a proud Austrian, I am greatful watching your colourful review of my country. We are a rather small nation, but there is lots to be seen and to be enjoyed. You are more than welcome to visit us one day
Well culturally, Austria and Southern Germany are extremely similiar. Ethnically germans and Austrians are the same and speak the same language, both in the Eu, use the Euro and live similiar.
Austria is just germany with Mountains and good weather.
So it makes sense a lot of your viewers are Austrian
Greetings from Carinthia, YOU HAVE TO VISIT THE WÖRTHERSEE
Cause you mentioned roads, yes they're definetly well maintained, the biggest bump you'll find is from it being patched up
"Top 10 Places To Visit In Poland" next, please! 😆
or go Bad Aussee for the 3 lakes tour.
I swam in the altausseer see this year and the view was impacable
I'd add Hintertux Glacier, which features summer skiing
I gotta admit Ryan Shirley gives amazing ideas on what places to visit, inspired some of my vacations, check out the Dolomites as well
Greetings from Salzburg :)
I am from Germany and go to Austria before 2 years. It is so beautiful in Austria. Salzburg ist the most beautiful city I have aver seen. I love it. The better Germany.
"Where do you get groceries at?" - Austrian villages and towns usually still have little village shops, bakeries and butcher's shops where you can get everything you need for daily life.
They have also one very famous painter which thought the Austria is too small once.
Ist a good mix of out beautiful place. But there is more to see. Tyrol at its own is a blast, especially the Svarowski Factory. In upper Austria you should look for Lake Attersee and in Styria for the, i thonl, most beautiful Lake, the Green Lake (Grüner See)
Checkout Wachau in Niederösterreich
Thats the thing. I never understood how people who visit Austria want to see a city like Vienna (nice, but its a city. Crowded, stressy and... well a city. Its similar to many other cities), when there is so much nature in Austria.
When I arrived Austria the first time, a question came out from my mind like never happened before . The question was : How come this is so beautiful? Am I in a dream ?
It's funny how he adds "lake" at the end of every lake's name, because "See" is the German word for lake. So, it's Gosau Lake, Wolfgang Lake and so on... :)
So many places missing there, and some of the ones he chose are strange choices. the old Austrian Citties are great too. Vienna with all the palaces, Graz and Salzburg with there old cities, and so many other places. The Wachau region in the Danube river, the Neusiedler Lake, the Attersee, multiple River Canions (Klamm), so much to see here in Austria...
nice to see a video about the beauty of austria as an austrian . it reminds me of what a paradise I live in. its beautiful, the water is pure and everything is clean.
but btw, we austrians are not rich .. our income is slightly less than the average german. and property prices depend on where exactly you live. but we are definitelly not rich.
4:10 If you don't believe in climate change you have to look at pictures of the Glacier from 10 - 20 - 50 years ago. This was a huge snow white "stream" of solid ice going all the way down from that mountain. Today you see only gray stones and puddles of water. There simply is no glacier any more.
I love how he pronounces the "Pasteries" glacier! 😂😂
The darn thing about scenic routes in the Austrian Alps is that you have to pay and they aren't cheap.
Beautiful land. Greetings from Carinthia
3:02 gosau actually isnt that expensive to live compared to other places in austria (like viennea or graz). most of the time the rural areas are pretty cheap, while the city is expensive af
The "lake" at the bottom once was the Pasterze glacier. The rest the glacier will be gone soon.
Year, my Homeland AUSTRIA, a great place to live!
Before starting the video: I am very curious about your reaction on my home country.
While watching the video:
- I walked around the lake at 1:50 last year, wonderful place.
- On 1:57 you can see "my" lake, Wolfgangsee :D
- If I would tell you the secret of Gosau, my passed away father would kill me (it has to do with fungi)
- The name of "Großglockner" can be translated to "great guy who rings the bells" ;-)
- On the Pasterze on Großglockner: when I was there in 2003, there was a glazier where now this lake is, global warming is fucked up!
- The roads ARE well maintained, correct
- I worked as a conductor on the Schafberg-Railroad when I was 18 ;-) There is a railing where the people walk, so don't worry :D
Hi could you recommend me a big pretty forest in Austria? :)
Finally Austria. My homeland😄
Meines auch 😊
Greetings from Vienna 🙂 I'll just quote the 101st Airborne out of "Band of Brothers": "We were all sad to leave Bavaria....until we reached Austria."
And no, you don't have to be rich to live in Austria. It's a social democratic country after all. You know... you pay taxes for which you actually get services in return (free healthcare, free education, unemployment benefits, perfectly kept infrastructure, social net, etc) not just a huge military as in the USA.
He only showed 1 state of our 9 states tho. We have SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many beautiful places. Vienna for example is one of the cities with the most UNESCO historical places in the world.
By the way: I feel like i need to menton this: The Glaciers are supposed to be white! All white! Snow and Ice. Thats a Glacier. But due to the warm climat, those Glaciers started to melt... and now they look like this 😭😭😭😭 Happy I saw them years before... all white 😍
it´s nice to see some beautiful places in austria, but we have more to offer than just the alps. the video mentioned hallstadt but iw ould recommend visiting other cities as well like salzburg or especially vienna. honestly you would need more than a day to see the most important places in vienna alone.
you can't just fall down on these mountain sections that are for tourists and the view ;-))...everything is well secured. If someone isn't climbing around or climbing up where they shouldn't, they have nothing to worry about. You just can't see it in the video from a bird's eye view.
See = Lake.. so Lake Wolfgang (Wolfgangsee) and Lake Gosau (Gosausee). Gosausee Lake would be like Gosaulake Lake. Oo
And it is Burgruine (castle ruin) Steinschloss (the actual name)
Hello from Austria ❤
Hallstatt is not even pittoresque but there is the oldest salt mine in the World! In ancient Times it was "white Gold" ❤🇦🇹❤
Tourism is the second largest income after the metal industry (voest, boehler-uddeholm, etc.)
Those are all places with nice views but I would not necessarily consider it the top 10 as far as an overall list goes. Lots of nice castles old towns and other areas were not present.
Also as far as those lakes and the grass goes. The grass is somewhat through a filter its not quite that vibrant unless you are there at the right time at the beginning of summer. However the lakes are roughly that blue since All water sources originating in Austria maintain drink water quality as long as they flow within the country and a lot of measures are taken for this to stay a fact. Rivers like the Rhein or the Donau do not maintain this quality but even Swimming lakes tend to stay this clean. There was a huge debate a few years back when due to tourism the Wörthersee was at the verge of not being considered that quality anymore simply due to the amount of sun-blocker leaking into the lake from people. So they took some measures to increase water cleaning efforts and Somewhat limit the tourism growth.
When it comes to prices yes living costs are fairly high within the EU however that is mostly due to the cost of Food etc. rent on the other hand tends to be very affordable even in cities. Also yes depending on the area a lot of revenue can come from tourism but that is far from everything there are lots of companies in the industrial sector that are very big.
You don´t really need to be "rich" it always depends how the home is built. In Austria, most people make a good salary which would be enough to live in the alps. Thank you for so much compliments.
Greetings from Austria
Oh, so you do have 2 channels? I was confused (doesn't take much tbf) because I was seeing videos in the sidebar thing that looked like you but apparently wasn't you, but actually it turns out it probably was you? I was going to leave a comment on the one I thought was you, saying I think someone is stealing your content!
I went to Austria, briefly, a long time ago, but my impression as we drove through was similar to the views shown here. I remember being on a road in the mountains, quite early in the day. High up but still under the tree line, and the road (tight, with hairpin bends looping back on themselves in places, but smooth and well maintained thankfully) just dropped away to one side, very syeep, but the view - evergreen forests clinging to the mountainsides, with pockets of cloud and mist looking as though they were caught on the tops of the high trees that they slowly furled around.
Clear blue skies above the mist and cloud we were occasionally level with, and then we'd turn a corner and the already amazing view would take your breath away, it really did look like a fairytale. Looking out over the pockets of mist in the trees down to a valley way below, some with flat, mirror-like lakes, and occasionally with picturesque villages nestled in the nooks between the mountains and the water, others were like quite narrow, hidden valleys with villages that strung themselves out like beads along the sides of a river, and off into the distance, seemed to be always even higher, more jagged mountain peaks, partly hidden by a haze the sun had yet to burn away. Really beautiful.
So if you're also looking into other European countries, have you watched/reacted to any Rammstein? An amazing, epic German band, you should check out their official music video of their song "Deutschland" - 2000 years of German history in one incredible music video! Every scene, likely every frame, has purpose. It'll blow your mind! The channel "Educated Marine" has the video in their channel, they have added their translation of the lyrics into English. You'll need it!
greetings from Austria
Hallstatt is so beautiful, that Chinese people decided to copy it & built their „own“ Hallstatt in Guangdong :D
hmm, these are all nice places, but as an Austrian I would have chosen a different top 10. These places in particular are often so full of people. If you are interested in what I find particularly magical: search for "der grüne See Östereich Mario Holze". It's the green Sea. It's cold but beautiful. We have a lot of places like that.
