As an Austrian who climbed a bit earlier as an amateur, I had a trick to "survive" such fear spots: Just focus on the next 50cm in front of you (the ladder) and look at only that - don't look down or to the landscape....after you have taken such climbing areas, you can then have a look to the landscape.....
It is nice to see how creator aware you are in suggesting to check the whole video out and not playing the full video. Like your stuff - greetings from Germany und guten Rutsch!
Living in this country is a blessing. I traveled all over the world, I like the us, but beeing able to breath fresh air, drinking water of the highest quality, having acess to really healthy food is a quality for live you could dream of. On Donnerkogel I met my late husband 50 years ago....But I thank god, I was born in this country every day. I am able to live in peace and a very healthy environment... what a blessing..." I am from Austria" sobg from Reinhard Fendrich..
I am from Austria and I subscribe to literally everything you have said in your reaction. I wouldn't climb that ladder for sure and if I did, i would be stucked there for ever. A small feast for the Austrian vultures. I live in Vienna but will soon go to the Tyrolean Alps by the end of January, really looking forward to it. Cheers!
You seem to have the same(ish) "fear of heights" as I have. That's why I tend to call it "fear of hitting the ground unchecked" - because that's what I actually fear.
It sounds to me like you really need to visit the Alps one day. :) I know you have mountains over there too, but the Alps beats most mountains anywhere. It is a huge area though, and many countries have access to it. In many places you can drive quite high up and then take cable cars to get higher (I prefer that before climbing). The view anywhere in the Alps is often insanely beautiful, and you are right about the air - stay overnight in one of those small, cosy mountain towns and sleep like a baby. You will get exhausted even without climbing, just hiking is likely challenging enough. After a rustic meal, some beer/wine, belive me - you´ll sleep nicely.
I haven't directly been in Alps but even just flying over (from Milan to Riga in my case with beautiful sunny weather underneath so all details visible) I was blown away of views beneath (snowy mountains with still snowy valleys inbetween with little to no civilization in view)
one crazy guy over here :) ✌ but to be fair: if you don't rush and think step by step, it looks more frightening than it really is... btw: lovely cat 😺 and a happy new year from austria
I live not too far away from this in Upper Austria, nice to see you appreciate our landscape so much. I'm quite often in the mountains, I really often forget what natural beauty this country has. Cool to see somebody reacting to videos from here. ;-)
The Alps are one of the most beautiful mountains in the World, it crosses 7 Countries, Switzerland, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco and Slovenia, absolutely fabulous, I was in Switzerland in July, visiting family and all I wanted, was to go out and take it all in, wow was the word I've used the most.
Alps in Monaco ??? Seriously ? Monte Carlo is right by the Mediterranean Sea, there is no real mountains there, only some cliffs and certainly not in Monaco where everything is built up. Otherwise, everything else is right. I live in French Alps, near Geneva, and wrote a tourist guide for motorcyclists about Alps, toured all these 6 countries from west to east, from France to Slovenia and back, ten years ago...
Yes you are right there is no Alps in Monaco and i live here in Switzerland. I will agree if it is Andorra because it is just located in Pyrenees in French Alps.@@FlatFab004
Thank you for that video, it´s one of you best and funniest ones ever ;-) As an Austrian, used to mountains my whole life and fortunately lacking of any fear of heights I was laughing from the beginning to the end 😂
Love your videos. Now, when you are in the European mountains, you should check BASE Wingsuite in Europe. The best way to start is always - The Epic Ones. For example, start with the "Dream Lines IV" !!!
Driving from Germany down to Austria and the Alps is absolutely amazing. The mountains just start rising out of nowhere when you reach the border from the middle of Germany. Just driving around west/middle Austria is a sightseeing tour in itself.
I’ve done many alpine hikes (up to T5, if you are familiar with the Swiss Hiking Scale) and there are definitely scary moments. I’m also a sports climber, indoor and outdoor. But I don’t like Klettersteige/via ferratas, ie, what this video showed. On alpine hikes, you have solid ground under your feet (sure, might be sand or grass). As a sports climber, you mostly know you can slip and fall and nothing bad happens, including being able to bail and be let down safely (exceptions apply). On via ferratas neither of those tends to apply (sure, you’re not going to die). I have some fear of heights like most people do. But I am good at focussing on the ground in front of me and not looking down the mountain.
I live in north Italy ,70 km away from the Alps. All Alps have this type of scenery, so not only in Austria but also Switzerland, Slovenia and of course the entire north edge of Italy.
Slovenia has some nice and high mountains. The Triglav, for example is ~2860m high. Which is almost as high as the "Dachstein", the 2nd highest mountain in Austria.@@Wienerblutable
Hello Ian. Have you ever noticed that the front end of the image of your Calais poster, (clipped by the smaller image, like around minute 6) looks kinda like a 1st gen Citroen BX?
I haven't been that crazy before. I just go hiking in the mountains. I once tried free climbing in Franconian Switzerland, but that wasn't my thing. a happy new year. 🔥 🚒🚒🚒 Greetings from Nuremberg
There is a "Klettersteig" similar to this one onto the Rax. It's built similarly to the ladder featured in the video but it is currently 100+ years old, hand-forged, quite beaten up and wonky by rocks that have broken out of the mountain but it's fairly easy to climb. Did it when I was 7 years old.
I see you have a reply from Italy. He's right - there are several other mind-blowing vertigo activities in Switzerland, Italy, and elsewhere. From via ferrata's to high altitude swinging rope bridges. Might be a good idea to get some wall climbing practise at your local suitable gym before you come over to Europe, to at least get a little "acclimatised".
Greetings from Nether Austria and "Guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr"! Like your Content! And no, I wouldn't do that I would (buchstäblich)sh.. my pants! And yes the Salzkammergut in upper Austria is a really really beautiful place!🇦🇹
I loved when Kara and Nate climbed it. Before that vid, i didn't even know this place even existed. Their vid shows the build up to the climb itself very well. Seriously, go find that vid and check it out. i'm not trying to hype their channel, of anything. I just think the ladder is just the half of it.
We also say in my country that you are afraid of heights but you are not afraid of heights you are afraid of depth because you are not afraid when you look at something tall/high.
On that stairway, you literally ascend up through the clouds (on days when there are clouds) rather like an aeroplane when it breaks through into the sunshine - only difference - you're doing it on a ladder.!!
what stops you from moving to austria? it's a really nice country, it's in the center of europe and well connected. there is much more to discover here. of course, universal healthcare. up to the point, if you strand on top of a mountain and you manage to call emergency services, they will rescue you.
This is a via Feratta, the first ones were created by the Italian army during the First World War to get its troops through the Alps, the soldiers must not have been afraid of heights
I'd without a doubt would give this a try. That would be so exhilarating, I saw the ladder & thought I'd be up that like a rat up a drain pipe. 9 x out of 10 my friends would send me in to do the crazy stuff. If I survived they would give it a crack themselves. I've done some crazy stuff, but that would be a highlight.
I was born and raised in the mountains. Too sad I live at sea level now. Every time I see a mountain I imagine that's how tank fish feel when they see the sea. I have driven past that place. I wish I knew that thing was there
I'm one of those weird ones. Looking down is fine. Not an issue. At all. More a case of 'Look how far we've gone / Look what I've achieved' mentality. Looking up, on the other hand? The whole world closes in and reminds me as to a combo of 'Look how much further we have to go' and how damned small and insignificant I am. Disconcerting, to say the least. Even in town (or in Wellington, our capital city), looking up at the large, tall buildings around. Very queezy stomach, quickly coming headache. Sweaty/clammy palms.
@IWrocker, The Austrian Alps (mountain tops). Get ready to sing!: The Hills Are Alive With the Sound Of Music". Followed by Climb Every mountain, then Stairway To Heaven!! 😂😂
One downside to living in some spots in the Alps is that you might zero direkt sunlight for several months during winter if you live on a steep north-facing slope.
Did similar things as a kid ... zero thoughts on personal security, but just getting THERE . Focus straight in front of you (2meters or less) and you´ll be all right if not better ;) If you like a kick from time to time : look down in between your legs ^^
As an Austrian, I am used to such views. I live in Styria where we also have very high mountains and therefore a lot of mountain roads. The only difference is that our mountains aren't so rugged but more round, that's because the rock is harder and weathers more slowly. But that only applies to the region in which I live. I'm a passionate motorcyclist and during the warmer seasons whenever it suits me It's possible to travel in the mountains (all over Austria and neighboring countries) and I'm often on the move very quickly. After almost 30 years of riding motorcycles, I've learned to concentrate on what I'm doing at the moment and nothing else, i.e. on the road and the traffic. Not on the landscape or other things! I only do that during breaks at particularly beautiful viewpoints! Some people would say I drive way too fast and dangerously, but from my point of view everything is controlled because I only drive fast where I have good access to the road When I'm on a road I'm not familiar with, I drive much more carefully, but it's not that I don't know the feeling of fear, it's more like controlling my own instincts without turning off my brain!
I'm from Austria and I know the place, but I'd rather parachute from a plane than climb up there. I'm not terribly acrophobic, but that ladder is way too shaky for my taste. 😂

Wow stunning view ! Alpes are so beautiful !
I'm not afraid of heights because heights don't do anything to you normally. What I have is fear of impact, that's the dangerous part of it all.
Every year i go in Alps to via ferratas. Love it. Austria, Italia and Slovenia. Its realy an addiction.

Wonderful Alps Mountains ⛰
In Luxembourg I watched climbers scale the underside of a 60’ arched viaduct. Only with the fingers and toes. For fun. Not for me.
I'd rather die than climb up there. Seriously, heights is my biggest fear.
