Yeah and I already got Pokémon yellow, gold and crystal. Donkey Kong, super Mario land, land 2, and I recently bought sonic 2 for game gear on my 2ds xl. For my Wii U, I got Pokémon ranger, Yoshi’s story, sonic boom the rise of lyric, duck hunt
I just don't have the same affection for the Switch. It's less portable and having to constantly clean the sticks to get rid of drift has made me resent it even.
For those who are unaware, the Pokémon Dream Radar are the only ways of getting certain hidden abilities in Generation 5. As well as one of few ways of getting certain legendaries with thier hidden abilities by booting up the game with a Gen 4 game in the cartridge slot (Which is also available by default with hacking your console so unless you don't want to hack your 3DS, don't worry) and it is also the only way to obtain Thunderus, Tornadus and Landorus in Black 2 and White 2 without trading.
@@ShinobiPhoenix-YT0 In the cheats for Dream Radar after hacking your 3DS it is an option you have right off the bat to just fake having the cartridge installed. Just don't have any other cartridges installed cause it will crash the game cause it gets confused on what it is reading.
@@DaikaijuDU So if one has Gen5-2 carts it has a function, I get that, but for everyone else? What purpose does it serve? I have a hacked 3DS, so I have Black 2 in the memory, but I am pretty sure it still can't connect directly to the rom unlike connecting to installed 3DS games (I own the Pokemons I want).
100% got them because I don't know if they will ever be available again. Even though I might not go back and 100% all of them I wanted them for the sake of my childhood. This is the only game series I know of where you can take something from the very first release and go through all the generations and place it in the most recent release. There is something special about that.
@@KyjiPurr stop defending nintendo. You act like nintendo can't give a choices buy it full price or buy the online subscription/Expansion pass. Sony let Playstation one 1 titles that give you a choices buy it for $5.99 or get a ps plus prime plan. Nintendo love milking there fans force you to buy there online subscriptions just play old classic games what is ridiculous
Note: Gen 1+2 Pokémon with the GB Origin Mark have their hidden ability (if applicable) and have at least 3 perfect IVs, making them great for saving resources on Ability Patches.
Hey Austin, there is actually is a way of getting cartridge Pokémon from gen 1 and gen 2 into modern games that does not involve programming. You need a cartridge ripper device such as a joey jr and then you simply put that save onto the sd card of your 3ds. You 3DS will be able to recognize and load that save file.
Or you can do it the legit way with a GBA, a Gamecube, link cables and a copy of Pokemon Colosseum to transfer them to R/S/E. Which is how I did it back in the day.
@@lilymoncat He specifically said gen 1 and gen 2 games, both of which were released before the GBA. Colosseum can only connect with gen 3 games, all of which were released on the GBA. The way he mentioned is very possibly the most legitimate, if not only, method for transferring gen 1 and gen 2 Pokémon to modern games.
Finally. I've been waiting for the eshop to shut down so I can finally use pokebank for free. Then I can send my shiny celebi I hunted in Crystal all the way to Shield. Edit: okay so I guess I didn't explain but I can't buy stuff on my eshop anymore. It's doesn't let me so I've been waiting for it to be free so I can use it again. Stop saying, "it's only 5 bucks". I know that. Thank you to all who have said that I never realized...
Just remember if you wait until pokemon bank is free you wont be able to get poke transporter so you cant transfer your celebi from crystal. Thats because you have to have an active bank subscription to open the poke transporter eshop page so once the pokemon bank is free you cant open the poketransporter page so you cant bring pokemon from the vc gameboy games or black and white
PSA: Pokémon Bank and Transporter will be unavailable after the closure, BUT if you get it ahead of time, you can use it for free afterwards. You can only get the Poké Transporter if you have already paid for Bank at some point in the past.
What if you have both transporter and bank but the subscription to bank just ended. Do you know if it has to be active before the e-shop closes or do we just need to have the apps on the 3ds itself?
It's really unfortunate that you still have to pay for all those passes and so many things to even try to use the bank. They're shutting down things, so it just feels... I don't know the words really. Unfortunate is the best I can describe it
I feel like there's something wrong with the language everyone is using. When you say unavailable it sounds like the service is unavailable. It's going nowhere and will continue to work exactly as it has except better now that it's free and we don't have to worry about passes expiring. You just can't buy anything you haven't bought before. Feels like there's not enough emphasis on that being precisely what's happening not just in every reddit thread I see but every clickbait article as well.
3:03 So this part is interesting. It’s not that the rattata has no moves available, it’s that rattata has no moves in sword and shield. For some reason even after the bdsppla update the switch version when checking through just home only shows the info if it’s a swsh supported mon. The mobile version works fine. Also making a video just for a tax write off? Based
I wish that they would update HOME to show the current moves of the pokemon in question (NOT the moves it would have if it were transfered to X game) when selecting HOME as the game.
@@yuusegawa Like I said, that data is saved, and it displays perfectly fine in the mobile version, so I don’t know why they wouldn’t do it. I get it if you’re connected to a game, so you only need to know the data for the mons supported in that game, but when you’re just connected to home and not a game, then this makes no sense
Silver was my original gen 2 version but I took Crystal instead. It's the enhanced version so a bit different and new for me and also still nostalgia. I see it as an absolute win.
Dude, I want to give you a huge THANK YOU. I had tried to buy the pass, and couldn't not knowing you couldn't add to the 3DS shop. Then I watched this and you mentioned merging the accounts. If you hadn't mentioned that, I would have lost all my event Pokemon. I wanted to thank you so much for that. I've watched your channel for a while, and it's helped me get through some stuck spots lol (Digletts and Wisps mostly lol). You are awesome, thanks for all your awesome videos.
I know Austin can't say it for the sake of Nintendo going after him, but everyone should legit mod their 3ds. Its super simple, and it removes the issue of the eshop closing, and you can do so much more than you can with a standard 3ds
@@lancesleeps Yes, there is an application that lets you download all gen 1 and 2 games, even after the eshop closes, and since HOME will be free, you can transfer them with no issue
I think what’s more important to note is that there are a plethora of eshop exclusive games that will become lost media as well as the fact Nintendo might discontinue the poke transfer service a short while after the eshop shutdown.
The 8f glitch was a real pain to do since it requires a bit of set up but completely worth it. For people who have RED version only, you can buy Silver version and Crystal version only to get all the pokemon for their national dex. Since all pokemon that is in Blue version is in Silver and the pokemon you can't get in Silver is in Crystal.
@@redspears8928 Yes, however this does not include pokemon that evolve through trading. But there is a way around that though with Red and Blue version, since the 8F glitch allows pokemon that you caught from glitches to be compatible with pokemon home.
@@azuregamer3497 Ohhh i see, I have access to a second 3DS for trading so evolutions should be fine but I was just wondering about whether it was only those three games necessary to complete the Gen 1-2 dex :)
Since you can use the Mew glitch to get ANY Pokemon in Gen1, you can get the whole Gen1 dex with literally ANY of the 3 games and not a single trade at all, if you know what you are doing. And Yellow is even nice enough to hand out all the starters + a Machamp from ingame trade to make things a bit easier here.
This video is a BLESSING from the heavens; today I was trying to trade a Shiny Dratini from White 2, BUT turns out my Pokemon Bank subscription ran out! SO thank you so much for being an awesome amazing Pokemon fan that keeps up-to-date with everything little sing that Pokemon shows out.
@@austinbui5177 yeah it will be free, but you gotta have the premium subscription beforehand if you want to be able to use all the premium things for free
Just an FYI for everyone! If you transfer mons up from older games they will have their hidden abilities so definitely do that for mons you want HA for!
Remember to buy and download any themes you might want too! for example any of the pokemon themes. Otherwise you'll be stuck with the boring free themes!
My favorite theme for the 3DS are the Megadrive/mastersystem one and the no longer available Hanafuda theme that one only cost me 20 gold points but the music never gets old for me.
Note: Even if the Gen 1 & 2 games release on NSO, it would still be better to buy them on the 3DS. That’s mainly because NSO will eventually shut down taking the assumed Gen 1 & 2 games down with it
Yeah but it did take around 12 years for the wii u & 3ds eshops to get shut down. Recent console generations are having longer and longer shelf lives, aswell as having certain content transfer to the next generation. Being strict with timeframes, we are still 4 years out from Switch's online functionality being shut down - though it will more likely be closer to 7 years and thats assuming Nintendo doesnt turn Nintendo Switch Online into a multi-system subscription that spans multiple console generations like PS+ and Xbox Live Gold/Game Pass do. Just mod, it's just plain better.
If i still wana play legal and full proper unmodded blue and red games 25 yesrs later im gona wana play them in more than 7 years time or whenever switch chooses to turn off its online sub model or raises the price. Owning is better than a sub service or modding. Modding means i cant use pokebank or freely do as i wish with my device. A lot of people hate emulation and modding and just prefer buying and owning genuine products. Some people love modding which is fine. But people who choose to buy know modding is an option, there is a reason we dont do it
@BlueFromKanto I don't do it because I don't know how. I also like being able to transfer Pokémon. I have almost every game though with exception to red & blue. About 2 of them are digital on the 3ds. I don't mind mods, I just prefer playing on the actual console to get the same experience. I prefer hard copies because digital copies can be easily lost when consoles break or stuff goes offline and then you have to pay monthly/yearly for access to a game you don't really own. 😔
@@Emily-lh6em yeah the sub model is the biggest scam ever, especially with older games. I cant imagine not having ownership of my titles, the thought they could be taken at any moment is insane. I also dont mod because im a purist and own all physical and digital legal copies. Cant imagine playing some dodgy modded console its just not right. May as well use a pc at that point lol.
@@betabee1221 actually, it’s the opposite. Consoles in recent history have been dying faster than the old days. Want proof? Compare the lifespan of the original Gameboy to the lifespan of the Gameboy Advance…
I’m genuinely sad about this…I still have fond memories of the 3ds as my first game device, and even though I have a switch, I play it to this day, so hearing that…just hits hard
If you link your Switch to your 3ds/2ds account, you can add funds to your ds via merging the funds after putting money into your Switch, then buy the Bank/Transporter.
The Switch is amazing, but the little details packed into the 3DS will always make it superior. I love and miss the street pass, earning coins to use in games by walking around. It was such a great concept, and I miss the Miis being the front of it all
This was a useful video for sure. I decided to get all of these games a little while ago and I hope people don’t miss out on getting the games while they are still available
This is an awesome video Austin. I would never have found all this information of what things would be exclusive and especially the sun and moon demo Pokemon. That is such a niche detail that I would have missed entirely. Keep up the good work mate!
I had pokemon gold and yellow on my 3ds from back in the day, then when I first heard they were doing away with the store I went ahead and grabbed a few more just to have all my bases covered. not every version of every generation, just enough that if I ever DID want to go back and get pokemon with that mark, I could
Seeing the thumbnail for your video actually reminded me to buy them! I didn’t start playing until leaf green and I was never able to snag a copy of crystal so I’m excited to play it now!
The only thing that I'm scared about is when my 2DS breaks, then I loose all access to these games. Sucks that they are hardware bound instead of account bound. :(
It’s worse then that you can’t even have a back up 2ds because it’s account locked to the system hardware which I really hate and starting to really hate Nintendo and there protectionist mindset
If you have physical cartridges, mod your ds with luma and godmode9. GM9 let's you rip your games and save data to the SD card. I believe it works the same for digital games, at least the save data, and you can always just download a rom of the digital game since you've already bought it at one point
If they're digital downloads, they're account bound. That's what all your Nintendo Network ID and getting all that stuff connected is for. You do have to be able to transfer from one system to another, it's not as easy as it is with the Switch, so don't go throwing your old 3DS into a firepit, but I've had to deal with transferring from a broken system to a new one and everything was recovered no problem. Incredibly nerve wracking nonetheless
Thanks for the notification. I have pretty much all of them on the 3ds but I’ll make sure and go back and check to make sure I still have the demos downloaded also just for preservations sake. I’ve checked out of scarlet and violet - I’ll try to finish when I have time although I’m missing all the current events, but I’m glad to have the originals safely kept in my 3ds
I’ve had a theory for a while that they’re not going to do a virtual console or NSO bundle with these old Pokémon games. Instead, I suspect them to be in game bundle cartridges, similar to the Mario 3d all stars but not limited time I suspect they’ll call it something like “Pokémon Classic: Kanto” and “Pokémon Classic: Johto” where you’ll get red blue yellow or gold silver crystal for $40 or $50 (price markup expected, but I also expect a physical cartridge) with Home compatibility before bank shuts down for good.
That would sound like a possibility, but selling all versions on a single cartridge would go against their long held stance of encouraging people to trade or buy multiple copies by releasing multiple versions of the same game.
I agree with you. I was thinking that it would be Pokémon Generations with a Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn game as a three pack in three separate collections. Say Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald as one collection.
That would mean they couldn’t upsell their NSO+ software as a service package and it’d mean you could own the games outright on your system. Much less profitable for Nintendo and too consumer friendly.
Hello! Try not to wait last minute to purchase/download from 3DS eShop! I was downloading DLC for Fire Emblem earlier today and had persistent connection errors; might be a me problem but I figure higher traffic might also be the issue. More folks are gonna be visiting the shop closer to the end of the line so I think is best to get your software early!
Thank you for reminding a lot of us about this! Can you do a master video of transferring between transporter, bank, and home and if it is possible to complete pokedexes in each game by yourself? Thank you for all your content!
For completionist for the living dex. The different icons/ribbons that the pokemon have will give you some sort of achievement that the pokemon travelled through different games. What a dream!
@@ulisesorizaga I feel like between Yellow and Crystal, there's not a lot they won't have that one would care about. Out of Gen 1 and 2, I don't know which would be left out. And as Austin said, the Cerebi is in Crystal.
@@marcu545 Yeah, I have Yellow as the Gen 1 rep and it would be how to get Surfing Pikachu, but every Mon in Gen 1 should already be in Gen 2, so Crystal is the best for that. I really don't see a point in buying Red, Blue, Gold, or Silver. If you just want to see the icons, probably don't spend money to do that. (also, installing hacked versions of them would at least be more fun than playing the old versions)
@@ShinobiPhoenix-YT0 true, I wouldn’t mind downloading either red or blue due to never playing those titles before. But I’m fortunate enough to still have my copy of leafgreen and HG if I wanted to complete Dex’s in bank for Kanto and Johto.
Can confirm you should still be able to transfer Battle Bond Greninja as long as you have a copy of either Sun or Moon. Was able to do it a few days ago and transfers it to USUM via Bank
Well I hope you get a 3ds anyways seeing as how it’s one of if not the best handheld console to grace the earth. It gets even better when you jailbreak it.
I remember leaving my class early to walk over to Nintendo world in NYC just to buy the 20th anniversary 3ds! What a trip it was a nice throw back watching that in your vid. I still have it too!
I have Yellow already thinking about getting Crystal just to preserve the option to play on it. When they do bring them out on Switch (& they will) I hope they integrate these games with Stadium & Stadium 2 with the GB Tower & playable Pokémon from your mainline games.
This has been such a hard decision for me, but I think I am going to wait it out. By then, maybe they will add the original Gen 3 games as well. I personally have much to do already with FE Engage, (in a few days) Mario Kart, and shiny hunting in Pokémon Violet. Also, here’s to looking forward to Tears of the Kingdom😄
Yep, definitely mod your 3DS and save yourself the money which you can then spend on games like Tears of the Kingdom and the Pokémon DLC. No point spending 100s of dollars on games that will be repackaged and resold again in 5/10 years.
@@Just_Shaunthere are 6 games at $9.99 US. With tax, if you buy all 6, you're looking at 70-75 dollars. That's still a lot of money if you aren't financially capable to spend on games but it's ultimately similar to a AAA switch game and that's IFF you buy all 6. I'd argue if you have the 3DS and Switch and 12 dollars to spare, it's at least worth getting one of these games. Or mod it if you're capable of it and forget I said this. To the OP's point, i don't think it's worth not getting these now because you're busy with other games. Shiny hunting in Violet should not be the reason to wait on this. Especially if they release it for NSO which will ultimately be more expensive over time and a non-permanent solution to having the game. Maybe I'm over stepping, maybe I'm passionate about gen 1-2. But i say, have a garage sale and splurge the 12 dollars
I considered buying crystal so I could be sure to get celebi later on, but I already have silver and there were still other games I wanted to buy. I wish I had bought other games sooner because now there’s less than a month left and there’s still several games I want to buy

Great Video! Even though I been aware the Nintendo 3ds/Wii U Eshop is shutting down this month, last month I had gotten pokemon Crystal and Yellow :) Don't think there other ones I'd want but will be enjoying them quite a bit, I played from Gen 4 onwards, and never really experienced gen 1/2 so it will be an interesting learning experience of how things were back then lol.
I bought the 20th Anniversary 3DS when it came out, I wanted to get the New 3DS, but they were only selling the XL in America at the time, so when they dropped that one I jumped at the chance to get, just a bonus that it happened to have my favorite Pokémon on it. And for anyone wondering I wanted the smaller version because I didn’t like how bulky the XL was.
I miss the 3ds mans So cool So many amazing games Mine broke years ago during my play through of Pokémon omega ruby I saw Austin’s 3ds homepage I just got like a wave of nostalgia I miss those days man So many great games
i picked up crystal and yellow on the 3ds not too long ago just bc i dont have my physical copies from when i was a kid and i wanted to be able to play them on a handheld. now i have all the pokemon games i wanted which is really awesome. thanks for the info and lovely vid as always! 💖✨
I jumped back into Pokémon with X&Y and upwards. I’m definitely worried about the 3DS store closing down & missing something. I did move all my Pokémon from Bank to Home, but I’m okay with everything progressing forwards and not necessarily having access to the older gen-games
Whilst I do own all Gen 1 as cartridges It'll be nice to be able to keep those Pokemon without them being 'lost.' I ended up getting RBY and GSC (I did already own G and Y).
I really hope for the NSO to get these games all on there soon, they should have been at the pokemon presents but if it really needs more time in the oven by all means. But we MUST have these games added EVENTUALLY.
pokemon company will probably wait until after the eshop closes until they announce it so people panic and buy the games on their 3ds. its scummy but an easy cash grab for them
That Crystal version is everything for me. I remember in 2006 seeing Pokemon Crystal sealed box at Best Buy and just when I was going to pick up from the shelf my brother's friend recommended me Beyblade for my silver GBA SP. Peer pressure is a BITCH! So I didn't buy the Pokemon Crystal game sadly. Thank goodness for digital games and I can capture the event Celebi and shiny hunt it!
Damn, what a shame. Never picked up one of these systems, stopped at DSI as a kid. Planned on picking one up soon but I suppose there’s not much of a point unless I’m trying to drop a few extra hundred on the shop in the next 20 days
If you link your Switch to your 3ds/2ds account, you can add funds to your ds via merging the funds after putting money into your Switch, then buy the Bank/Transporter.
I just bought these games recently on my 3DS XL before the eshop closes ( I will be getting more ) -Pokémon red -Pokémon Crystal version -mega man legacy collection ( games 1 to 6 ) -Mario bros 3 -Sonic the hedgehog -original arcade donkey kong -smash bros 4 DLCs -tomodachi life
I would argue it's not even necessary to buy Red, Blue, Silver, or Gold if you just get Yellow and Crystal if all you're concerned with is completing the Pokedex. According to Bulbapedia, every Pokemon that you can't get in Yellow, you can get in Crystal, and every Gen 1 Pokemon you can't get in Crystal you can get in Yellow. Of course you'd need another method of getting the Gen 2 Pokemon not found in Crystal (Mareep and its evolution line, Girafarig, and Remoraid and Octillery), but those are apparently found in numerous locations throughout the later generations. Just FYI
Well that’s my luck. The one time I have money to buy those older gens on my 3DS and now it’s gonna be over very damn fast. Thank you so much for the announcement, time to make some purchases!
@Brandon Nope, you can still add funds through the nintendo website if you link your nintendo network id to your nintendo account and merge the balances on them, then adding funds via the website
I'm planning to get Blue and Gold I think. I already have Crystal for Celebi. I think they'll be released on Switch with the next Home update. During the last presents, Pokemon didn't give us any update on Home so I'm thinking they want to make the game compatible with Home on Switch before releasing them, or they're waiting until after the Eshop closes to not impact 3DS sales.
I am so glad I kept my New 2DS XL and DSi XL. Have them running amazing software and am able to do more on them than ever before. Always a good idea to keep old systems (still have my PSP Go and OLED and LCD PS Vita handhelds). Thanks for sharing this because now I am hunting these games down lol.
I have two 3ds (it used to be three but my original’s battery was moments away from exploding), one was a friend’s and one was secondhand. Sadly the secondhand 3dsXL was at some point modded and the original owner didn’t tell me, so updating it made it completely unusable. However, after a lot of work I managed to reset the last functional one and link it to my Nintendo account to get my grubby little mitts on the gen one and two games!
In my opinion, from a Pokedex completion standpoint, the fact that Celebi can only be obtained on the virtual console is important because it, along with Deoxys, are the only Mythicals that can be obtained outside an event via the respective post-games of Crystal Virtual and ORAS. Mew and Jirachi are obtained in BDSP provided you have save data from LGPE and SwSh, resepctively, all the Gen 4 Mythicals can be obtained in Legends Arceus (Manaphy, Phione, and Arceus in the base game, Darkrai vis BDSP save data, and Shaymin via SwSh save data), and Keldeo can be obtained in Crown Tundra in SwSh as part of the side quest involving the Swords of Justice., and the rest of the Mythicals* are event only. So, once the 3DS eShop closes, there will be no way to obtain Celebi and Deoxys if didn’t already have those specific 3DS games downloaded. *Edit: the rest of the Mythicals except Meltan in GO. Edit 2: While it is possible to obtain Deoxys via physical cartridges of ORAS, I think it is more convenient via digital copy. Also it has been brought to my attention that the QR code that gives you Magearna in the Alola games does not have an expiration date, so if you have the Alola games on the 3DS (physical or digital copy) you can still get Magearna.
ORAS has physical cartridges, right? So you don't NEED it, though it would be much more convenient than looking for a cartridge afterward. And I think Magearna can be redeemed forever in the Alola games.
@@user-gt5dq1lm3q Well, maybe one per save or something... I don't really know. All I'm thinking is just that it isn't limited in some way, so you wouldn't need an event for it.
I think I already have Crystal on my 3ds and tbh I'm not bothered about gen 1, the only I'd want is the experience because the mark doesn't bother me at all. Got Dream Radar a while back and already got an fully setup, paid for and used poke transporter and Bank so I should be fine. Will make sure to get the special demo of sun and moon if I don't have it already and I know I don't have the OrAs demo. Thanks for the reminder I actually forgot about this
I'm definitely going to pick some of those classic games up before they go. Austin, do you know if the special Ash Greninja is transferable to home and can it work on any of the newer games such as scarlet/violet?
Thanks for the reminder, John. I was totally about to wait and miss the date. I've got all the systems to do so If I don't get it. Digitally. But I have no idea if they work still. So this'll will be neat to have too. Hope you're well and thanks for the informative 👍 videos.
Got em on two systems already. Been grinding red and blue to fulfill a living dex with both male and female mons regardless if there is any form difference. And considering gen 1 didnt have any separate male and female pokemon (besides the Nidoran line) untill transferred to gold or silver, I've ran iv calculator on each mon caught to tell me if it will be male or female when transferred since it's based on the attack stat. Lol I finished gen 1 except I need all the female starters and evolutions which will be fun 😂😬
Honestly considering buying the original games starting with crystal, I may not play them much but i feel like I would play them more on 3ds than I would with switch online additional I only pay for basic switch online not the additional version that allows you to play the color and advance emulators. Subscriptions are great but I wanna own my games 😊
I would say that IF you don't have it, at the very least, buy Pokemon Crystal. That way, you can still shiny hunt Celebi in the future if you decide to later down the line. RBY and GS aren't as important, but Crystal is the biggest one of those games. Also yes, SM demo for Battle Bond Greninja. That is, to my knowledge, THE ONLY way of getting it legit outside of possible future events, which are by no means guaranteed to happen.
I say myself got really lucky to be able to bought the New Nintendo 3DS Pokemon 20th anniversary edition in 2017 from our local store just for $272 in mint and perfect condition. To see how high the prices goes up today even the box alone cost $271 is mind blowing to me because I never thought it could be so expensive today
My 3ds got stolen on 4th of July 2 years ago. It had gen 1 games in it and the charizard and blastoise face plates. Thanks for making this video now I get to relieve the pain
Poke Transporter is a bit of a weird situation. Will it be downloadable if you have Pokemon Bank downloaded but you've never bought a pass or will you need to buy the pass?
If you link your Switch to your 3ds/2ds account, you can add funds to your ds via merging the funds after putting money into your Switch, then buy the Bank/Transporter. Transporter is only acessable after buying a sub for Pokemon Bank.
You could, but it would be easier to simply trade Pokemon to a ds that has Bank and upload them that way. If you however want to ensure you have a Bank/Transporter in case one of your ds breaks, then go for it. The Bank sub is only I believe 5 us Dollars, and after the shop goes off, Bank will become free. Even then you can transfer your Nintendo ID on a ds to another ds, so lets say if you have an older one, then you decide to buy a newer ds that wont break for a while, it will even transfer your downloaded stuff to that ds along with your system and account data. The only drawback is Bank can use just one Nintendo ID, which is bound to one system, meaning if you get Bank for another ds, you will need another email, account, and possibly another Switch/Home account. I agree this can be tedious, but the most cost effective thing to do is trade or transfer all the Pokémon you want into games that use Bank individually onto one ds game with Bank, then bulk transfer/upload to Bank. An example is if you have Alpha Sapphire and Y, and 2 ds systems, trade the ones out of the ds without Bank into the one with Bank. This applies to Transporter too, so if you have 2 gen 5 games, trade them into one copy then bulk upload. In short, buy multiple Bank subs for protection in case a system breaks down, or transfer your data to a system in good condition, its up to you. Sorry if this took forever to read.
Hey Austin John, will you make a video on covering the Save Data Corruption Glitch that’s been plaguing Pokemon SCVI since version 1.2.0. has released? There’s a lot of confusion and misinformation going around and I think you could help cover it in a more detailed way.
Question out of curiosity: should one ever lose access to the DS they bought the cartridges on (e.g. it breaks), are those games still downloadable on a new one using the same Nintendo account?
When I bought my 3DS in 2019 from Ebay I immediately bought VC Crystal version just to explore the magic of the GBC era of games. I grew up on Gen 4, so to revisit Johto in its original form was almost nostalgic and awesome to see how close the HGSS remakes were to the originals. I watched all sorts of videos on how to do glitches or what was the best way to shiny hunt in these old games, and after 2478 SR I was able to get myself a shiny Cyndaquil. It’s a fun experience, and for anyone who hasn’t gone back and visited these games but wants to be surprised or wants a challenge, I would recommend doing so. Since I got Crystal though, I have since then bought Red and Blue as well but I haven’t gotten Yellow, Gold or Silver. Should I purchase them for old times sake or do you believe it’ll be just fine having Red, Blue and Crystal? I think for Gen 1 mons I’ll have all bases covered. As someone who enjoys Pokémon on the 3ds, I got both demos, all Gen 1 and 2 main titles, Pokémon Bank and Transporter. I have cartridge forms of all the mainline titles, and digital versions of the opposite versions. I should be set for the long haul.
Would it be possible to, for instance, buy a 2ds cheap, get all the games and transporter (basically everything talked about) and then transfer it all to a new 3ds at a later date after the eshop gets closed down? So long as its on your account?
My little brother told me two days ago that the eshop was closing. I didn't want to buy a switch but I want to transfer my childhood pokemons in the future. Thanks for the info
I decided to do a complete restart of my pokemon collection with bdsp as diamond was my first ever pokemon and ngl its been great not having to try to get older events and try to transfer any older pokemon through bank or go, good luck to everyone who is going for the full collection youre a better person than me lol
I already got yellow and Crystal, that's more than enough for me~ Odds are if i wanted to replay them i'd be more likely to just emulate them for the QoL stuff since i tend not to go to the hassle of moving over all my mons to new games/home
same, I already got yellow and gold and I just bought crystal, I,m pretty content with not buying the rest before time runs out plus I still got the physical games and old consoles to play them with, I probably won't be able to download any if them to home but that's what pokemon go for even if they aren't originally from red ,blue or silver.
I think I'll pick up Crystal, and maybe Yellow. Already got the SM Demo. Ultra Sun/Moon might be worth picking up only because the Physical prices on Ebay or other sellers tend to straddle above what it's listed for on the E Shop, and I'm only willing to pay so much more for a physical copy. You bring up a great point of technilogical preservation... the ownership of these games are tied to your Nintendo account, but you will always have access to them so long as the console works. There is no required online, there is no subscription fee, you just buy the game, have it downloaded, and play it. You demonstrated how high Pokemon Nintendo products can get, and the games are no exception. I absolutely love physical copies, and will almost always buy physical, but it gets difficult to justify it when games are being resold double their original price on the regular, let alone the consoles required to play them.
I actually got the 3ds with the changeable plates when it came out! Wish I'd kept it in the box based on those prices 😅 Thanks for the video! Gonna make sure I have everything I want! I know I got red/blue/yellow, radar, and the demo when they came out.
Oh way ahead of you. I got Crystal, Yellow, and Bank for my 3DS quite some time ago. Also some other gems like the remastered Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I even got the Ambassador games since I got one of the first 3DSes. I freaking LOVED the 3DS era.
I bought all of them on both my 3ds and new 3dsXL a couple years ago so I can do the trade evolutions and also get two Celebi. Even if they all come to NSO I’d still want them on 3ds so I can play them offline.
Do you think that when the gen 1, 2, and 3 Pokemon games are added to the GB/GBC and GBA NSO services, that these games will have compatibility with Home at some point? I would definitely replay everything, catch them all, and move them all to Home if that happens.
IDK how that would work out, considering that the Pokémon Home would have to search for the Pokémon by looking in an emulator contained within another software that also holds the data of the other emulated games.
@@Adamatronamus Data miners already figured out that Nintendo changed their mind on that. There's a string somewhere in the NSO code that suggests being able to connect the Game Boy Games to Stadium through NSO.
@@16BitKamek They would have to eliminate the save state feature for the same reason the other Pokemon games don't have cloud saves, is the main thing.

Just gotta make sure I purchase and download the rest of the games and apps before the eShop goes offline FOREVER.

For those who are unaware, the Pokémon Dream Radar are the only ways of getting certain hidden abilities in Generation 5. As well as one of few ways of getting certain legendaries with thier hidden abilities by booting up the game with a Gen 4 game in the cartridge slot (Which is also available by default with hacking your console so unless you don't want to hack your 3DS, don't worry)

Edit: okay so I guess I didn't explain but I can't buy stuff on my eshop anymore. It's doesn't let me so I've been waiting for it to be free so I can use it again. Stop saying, "it's only 5 bucks". I know that. Thank you to all who have said that I never realized...

Same, I just want to transfer most of my shiny pokemon to Scarlet and Violet.
Same... i until i released that i can't download poke transporter without buying a bank pass. Bought it today way before this video dropped.
Why do you need the transporter?
Just gen 5?

So this part is interesting. It’s not that the rattata has no moves available, it’s that rattata has no moves in sword and shield.

The only thing that I'm scared about is when my 2DS breaks, then I loose all access to these games. Sucks that they are hardware bound instead of account bound. :(
That’s why you gotta be careful
I didn’t care about any of this prior but the more and more Austin talks about the more I want to do it😅
I’ve had a theory for a while that they’re not going to do a virtual console or NSO bundle with these old Pokémon games. Instead, I suspect them to be in game bundle cartridges, similar to the Mario 3d all stars but not limited time
I suspect they’ll call it something like “Pokémon Classic: Kanto” and “Pokémon Classic: Johto” where you’ll get red blue yellow or gold silver crystal for $40 or $50 (price markup expected, but I also expect a physical cartridge) with Home compatibility before bank shuts down for good.
Would be awesome, and potentially profitable as well
That would sound like a possibility, but selling all versions on a single cartridge would go against their long held stance of encouraging people to trade or buy multiple copies by releasing multiple versions of the same game.
There old games i doubt they'll care about that

Don't think there other ones I'd want but will be enjoying them quite a bit, I played from Gen 4 onwards, and never really experienced gen 1/2 so it will be an interesting learning experience of how things were back then lol.
I miss the 3ds mans
So cool
So many amazing games
Mine broke years ago during my play through of Pokémon omega ruby
I saw Austin’s 3ds homepage I just got like a wave of nostalgia
I miss those days man
So many great games
So jealous you have the boxes for the old Pokémon games! :(
I’m a simple man, I see Austin John upload, I smile and click. Thank you for all you do for this community!!!
Stop meatriding
i picked up crystal and yellow on the 3ds not too long ago just bc i dont have my physical copies from when i was a kid and i wanted to be able to play them on a handheld. now i have all the pokemon games i wanted which is really awesome. thanks for the info and lovely vid as always!
I think we will get them eventually, Nintendo is just likely to milk us and spread the releases very few and far between.
I really don't because I want to _buy_ them, not pay for some faggy ass subscription that shouldn't exist anyway.
pokemon company will probably wait until after the eshop closes until they announce it so people panic and buy the games on their 3ds. its scummy but an easy cash grab for them
That Crystal version is everything for me.
Use homebrew
I just bought these games recently on my 3DS XL before the eshop closes ( I will be getting more )
-Pokémon red
-Pokémon Crystal version
-mega man legacy collection ( games 1 to 6 )
-Mario bros 3
-Sonic the hedgehog
-original arcade donkey kong
-smash bros 4 DLCs
-tomodachi life
I would argue it's not even necessary to buy Red, Blue, Silver, or Gold if you just get Yellow and Crystal if all you're concerned with is completing the Pokedex.
It's still impossible to add money to the e shop. You have to redeem a card to add money.
@Brandon Nope, you can still add funds through the nintendo website if you link your nintendo network id to your nintendo account and merge the balances on them, then adding funds via the website
@@Brandon-dy8us yeah but I can still buy the cards with the money I now have XD
I'm planning to get Blue and Gold I think. I already have Crystal for Celebi.
I think they'll be released on Switch with the next Home update. During the last presents, Pokemon didn't give us any update on Home so I'm thinking they want to make the game compatible with Home on Switch before releasing them, or they're waiting until after the Eshop closes to not impact 3DS sales.
Dont
Can play them all on your phone
By downloading them for free
I'd love to see a list of non-Pokemon eShop digital only games that you would recommend👍
ORAS had both physical and digital versions for 3DS, so I’m pretty sure Deoxys is still ok
@@aariuswins Correct
@@TheRedSmarty Huh. I thought the QR code was a one time use only.
Yes it is transferable. But I know it's been nerfed in S/V and it doesnt have it's transformation. It just does a stat boost instead.
@@seanathan5272 that sucks why take away it's transformation that's literally the only unique thing about it compared to a normal Greninja
clutch downloading right now, a couple of hours till 27th
Bro I’m sorry
Poke Transporter is a bit of a weird situation. Will it be downloadable if you have Pokemon Bank downloaded but you've never bought a pass or will you need to buy the pass?
If you link your Switch to your 3ds/2ds account, you can add funds to your ds via merging the funds after putting money into your Switch, then buy the Bank/Transporter. Transporter is only acessable after buying a sub for Pokemon Bank.
@@kosakukawajiri5007 Ah, ok. My next question is, is it worth paying for 2 Bank subs for 2 different 2DS/3DS?
I got all the Pokémon games i wanted. Im just debating wether or not i should get the LoZ games 😭😭😭
Hey Austin John, will you make a video on covering the Save Data Corruption Glitch that’s been plaguing Pokemon SCVI since version 1.2.0. has released? There’s a lot of confusion and misinformation going around and I think you could help cover it in a more detailed way.
Thank you for keeping us updated, with this information! Got 2 3DS with all 9 games, bank and transporter :D
Me with a hacked 3ds for over a decade: "Oh no... So anyway"
Question out of curiosity: should one ever lose access to the DS they bought the cartridges on (e.g. it breaks), are those games still downloadable on a new one using the same Nintendo account?
We need fan-made servers for 3ds
What would that do? The service isn't going down, just the shop.
Ugh I'm so upset the 3ds is finally shutting down its my childhood ❤
For me it's the NDS and GTS starting from Gen4 👀
Didn’t realize I was sitting on a goldmine with my charizard/blastoise 3DS. I have all the Pokémon games installed on there and the box still as well.
great video - didn’t even know the 3DS eshop was closing this soon. gonna grab everything here before it does
When I bought my 3DS in 2019 from Ebay I immediately bought VC Crystal version just to explore the magic of the GBC era of games. But yeah, anyways I hope everyone gets these games while they can and enjoys them just as much as I have :)
Also, anyone wanna exchange 3DS friend codes? 😂😂
@@redspears8928 For Gold and Silver it depends if you want the Mareep and Remoraid lines as well as Girafarig at any point. I have Red, Yellow and Silver and am about to pick up the other 3 games just so I have them all.
I can add you if you want :)
@@trashboat10969 Ohh I see, that makes sense for Gold and Silver :) ohh niiice, I might get the other two just to complete the full set too honestly :)
And sure thing! My FC is 4442 5816 3233
As someone who enjoys Pokémon on the 3ds, I got both demos, all Gen 1 and 2 main titles, Pokémon Bank and Transporter.
For some reason the transfer from one device to another doesn’t work
I'm just wishful thinking that I was you Austin. Man those collections are so dope and in prestine condish 😳😳😳
Having the full Gen 1-4 on one game was great.
I already got yellow and Crystal, that's more than enough for me~
Odds are if i wanted to replay them i'd be more likely to just emulate them for the QoL stuff since i tend not to go to the hassle of moving over all my mons to new games/home
Yeah also with Homebrew you can put the emulatef game save data onto the 3ds, and then use Bank/Transporter to send the pokes to Home
Exactly why spend money on dinosaur games when you can just emulate
same, I already got yellow and gold and I just bought crystal, I,m pretty content with not buying the rest before time runs out plus I still got the physical games and old consoles to play them with, I probably won't be able to download any if them to home but that's what pokemon go for even if they aren't originally from red ,blue or silver.
Can play them all on your phone
By downloading them for free
I actually got the 3ds with the changeable plates when it came out! Wish I'd kept it in the box based on those prices 😅
Thanks for the video! Gonna make sure I have everything I want! I know I got red/blue/yellow, radar, and the demo when they came out.
I mean, with how easy it is to homebrew the 3ds now, it's really only Bank/Transporter that you could miss out on.
Do you have 2 Nintendo accounts??
I respect the heck out of AustinJohn talking about his tax break😂
Do you think that when the gen 1, 2, and 3 Pokemon games are added to the GB/GBC and GBA NSO services, that these games will have compatibility with Home at some point? I would definitely replay everything, catch them all, and move them all to Home if that happens.
IDK how that would work out, considering that the Pokémon Home would have to search for the Pokémon by looking in an emulator contained within another software that also holds the data of the other emulated games.
Considering the n64 stadium games are having no connectivity, i would doubt it. In 10 years they may offer a new way to play, but not anytime soon.
@@karlthorkildson4650 Ok? That wouldn't be hard. It would just be a toggle as to whether a game supports save states or not. The 3ds versions already don't have save states, so that would have crossed their minds when porting them again.
I'm so glad I was able to get the Pokemon 20th Anniversary New Nintendo 3DS bundle that came with Red and Blue. I have Pokemon Bank and PokeTransporter and I think A couple of the Gen 2 games. Just gotta make sure I purchase and download the rest of the games and apps before the eShop goes offline FOREVER.
I thought the E-Shop as already closed. You have saved me from missing out on getting these games before they are completely unavailable.
Thank you for reminding me to download the Sun/Moon demo. Now I'm able to get that battle bond Greninja and not feel like a total outcast.
You do know homebrew exists right?
The 3ds will be missed
Thanks for the Heads Up.
I just got Yellow Version after noticing my catridge went missing.
Still got my 20th anniversary 3ds with all Pokémon games. Dream world, bank, transport, etc. complete and in box and it’s going to be a great collector’s piece.
Pokémon Bank and Transporter will work for free after the shop closes?
