Ram placement isn’t a preference, it’s a requirement. In order for dual channel to work properly, the sticks need to be in their proper order. Most motherboards require the first two sticks to be in slot 1 and 3 to run in dual channel. Slots 2 and 4 are paired as well for when you add additional modules.
