The Belmont Race. The greatest display of physical dominance in a sporting event ever recorded in history which I doubt will ever be equaled or surpassed.
Someone mentioned how that race was mythological in nature, surreal. He was a gift to humanity, his records still firmly etched in time, maybe eternity. Sham is my black stallion, but Secretariat was everyone’s.
I have to agree with those that have said about secretariat "on that day no horse could have beaten secretariat" after all 43 yrs later the 1973 belmont record still stands and chances are will forever.
It’s now 47 years later and the Preakness was just run today, it was the last TC race this year and all 3 records still stand. I have a feeling they will be saying that for another 47 years! A filly named Swiss Skydiver won the Preakness this year with the second fastest time ever with 1:53.28, Secretariat’s time was 1:53 flat so it was close, only about a length and a half behind, so congratulations to Swiss Skydiver!
Me...too! I watch It everyday.. the BEST two minutes of the day...What a race, Sham, Secretariat and the calle of TV commentator..all..amazing, after 50 years !!
That tremendous machine was all alone out there. Omg. Goose bumps never fail when I watch him run. I wish I had had a chance to put my arms around that beautiful neck and kiss his face.
he was amazing no doubt not just for a time but thinking will their be another horse like him, it's quite possible never" heard his heart was almost twice the size of most horses, with that being said" he will be greatest of all time* love ya big red RIP
Some say Secretariat was never much of a sire. Right. BUT, he was top five broodmare sire for a long while. What Secretariat had to offer to the breed can only really be passed on through his daughters, the big heart gene. Secretariat, and others like him, have to be in the right place on a pedigree to make this contribution. Secretariat was more of a breed builder than sire of race horses, and that big heart mutation had to go to his filly line first to be useful. When you can produce a filly with two copies of the big heart gene, you have a stakes horse factory called a "blue hen."
Some say Secretariat was never much of a sire. Let me qualify this further. Secretariat did not sire great horses like himself, but he did sire a few good ones. A.P. Indy and Storm Cat very much benefitted having Secretariat close up in their pedigree, and in just the right placement to inherit a copy of the big heart gene to pass along.
The filmmakers did a wonderful job of casting their equine actors, but one does wish Justify had been born and old enough to play his great great (great great) gramps. That stride isn't easy to fake!!
I totally agree with Secretariat being a one of a kind horse that ever galloped the face of this earth but that part of prophet Job is just hear say. No one knows what was before us or what is after us - just like with some human creations, other creatures are born with certain God-Given Natural capabalities -but THAT IS BETWEEN THE CREATOR AND HIS creations. There may be other horses in the world that can be compared to Secretariat- we'll never know as Only The Creator Knows The Truth of ALL. 🙂Peace
Sham broke down in this race, and never ran again. Terrible shame because he was a great horse too. In fact, Sham and Red were cousins! Reds mom was Somethinroyal out of Princequillo, a great speed AND distance runner, and Shams mom was Sequoia out of Princequillo.
Frankel was a really good horse and he definitely belongs in the top 10 of best ever! But the number one spot can only go to one horse, the king of the of the sport of kings, Secretariat
@@lorrainelloyd7750 Secretariat could come from dead last, the middle of the Pack, or he could win running in front all the way. Secretariat also won on turf or dirt and holds many race records, a track record and a world record. I dont know if MOW has any records.
While I'm not a Frankel fan and think, er, KNOW Man O'War is the greatest, thanks for your comment!!!!! 48 years of listening to factless bullying Secretariat fans.
@@lorrainelloyd7750 there isnt enough good footage to say MOW was the greatest. Secretariat is the greatest as he has all the race records in the Triple crown.
There has never been anything like Secretariat. There is nothing now like Secretariat. There never will be anything like Secretariat. He still holds the record in the 3 Triple Crown races. All 3 were amazing but the Belmont ventured into the impossible! When they talk about people crying in the stands, I believe it because I was crying in the living room! It's a hard thing, to see the impossible! But what about poor Sham. I believe he also beat the previous times in the Derby and Preakness. If not for running against the Super Horse, Sham would probably have won the Triple Crown. That's just another testament to how great Secretariat was, he beat another super horse to win the Triple Crown! R.I.P. Secretariat. You gave us all a gift to cherish for the rest of our lives!

He sired Lady's Secret and Risen Star who missed out on winning the triple crown by a smidge
Not just the Belmont. Secretariat could run on any type of track, in any type of weather or any distance. There was nothing he could not do in a race.
