More than a decade later I'm watching this and the opening ceremony still appears fresh and spectacular! Remember watching an intl sporting event for the first time as a 9-year-old kid, those memories still remain fresh. We are definitely much more capable of hosting the Olympics in the near future, but sad that IOC isn't interested in that coz we're still struggling to get medals even in double digits. Tokyo was a major letdown, we should perform well in Paris to bid for 2036 at least.
The opening ceremony of Delhi Commonwealth is easily comparable to Top 20 olympic openings. But we shouldn't be too excited to host olympics as it requires huge amount of money. Paris spent 10 billion dollars and most athletes are complaining about food and transportation etc plus there is no Air conditioning in olympic village

Check out the applause the audience made for teams India, Pakistan and Canada! Also, the cheer when Kalmadi names Sheila Dixit. Delhi loves our ex CM Shiela ji. She completely turned around the face and infrastructure of Delhi and made it world class. I wish to see more such live events in my life! Though the sync could've been a bit better but still it was an amazing grand ceremony of no match! Kudos to all! ❤

glad that we witnessed such grand event in our city. All well that ends well. Hosting such an event is a big big challenge. Greece and Brazil better know the repercussions. I think India should never get into the trap of hosting Olympics (atleast for next two decade, Brisbane just won 2030 Olympic bid. All the best Aussies). People come, munch on freebies, have fun and go in a week or two. But, the hosting country suffers. Japan is also feeling the pain of spending billions and pandemic ruined everything.
India is confirmed plan to host or bid for 2048 olympics 🔥. And Brisbane will host 2032 Olympics not 2030. 👍🏻. Our bid was highest but due to lack of infrastructure we lost there 🙏
