Very helpful thank you,I just started a career in marketing powder coating so I’m doing my homework to get a better understanding of the product I’m marketing
1:24 I'm an automotive painter and this paint job is terrible. The texture the amount of dirt and possibly solvent popping. It is much easier to mess up a paint job, but I assure you if done properly in a paint booth it doesn't turn out like this. Not to mention the fact that the washer nozzle is already put back in before this was either polished or re-done.
Cool informative video. Can you tell me how OEM (spray) wheel paint differs from OEM body panel paint? Is it just more layers? I've noticed that OEM wheels' paint is FAR more durable, harder and a lot more resistant to scratches. And survives the abuse that tire machines do. Compared to like OEM body panel paint.
Actually, powder coating is something you can do more easily at home than painting. Painting equipment is much more expensive unless you're using rattle cans. Also, I advise you to be a (good) painter to be painting anything car related. Even some painters only do crap jobs, let alone someone with no experience. And you don't have to just "clean" the part, the prep work includes sanding and applying primer if other repairs ain't needed.
Absolutely, I believe we noted that prep work would be needed. Also it is very important to have a good painter do your work on your car. Not doubting anyones skill set but its best to have a professional do that type of work rather then a DYI expert! 😂👍
@@FitmentIndustries You did mentioned it, I just feel like you skipped through it too quickly. It just needed one more phrase to salientate the importance of it, as a good prep work is more important than a good painjob, to my belief. Both are important, of course, but none can do without the other.
@@alesdrolec2640 Dude... I'm an aircraft painter as a profession... Used to be a car painter and we did powder coat wheels. I'm sorry, but you're barking at the wrong tree. I do find the process of powder coating... Not "easier", but more "stupid proof". It's harder to mess up and requires less prep work. The workshop I was in didn't go for the high end finish, it was more like the cheap option. It wasn't the top best thing out there, but it was pretty acceptable! We cooked the power in an old kitchen oven, we couldn't do more than one rim at a time, lol.
@@ThePortuguesePlayer helo, its been 6 long years, I just need your unbiased advice, which is better for painting a mag wheels of a motorcycle? Polyurethane paint or Powder Coating? Thanks in advance c",?
About three years back the shop where I work at received the set of one-off custom aluminum composite dragset rims. We were worried that the molecular structure would be changed from the baking process but it's been three seasons and he still using the same set.
so if i daily my car and i decide to do a painted set instead of powder coat id be fine ? the company even gave me a lifetime warranty if i painted or powder coated as well so any chipping will be fixed free 🤷🏾♂️
@@FitmentIndustries The issue isn't "strengthening" the wheel. The issue is heating the wheel beyond its engineered tempering time and the possibility of making it more brittle and crack prone. And the question of this is not limited to forged wheels. Many manufacturers of wheels of all types recommend against powder coating after purchasing their wheels.
@željko šimić Not melting; tempering. The tempering process does not aim to use a temperature which melts material. Just to heat it up and then cool it down to strengthen it. But the theory is that continuing the process beyond the designed amount risks going past strength towards brittleness. I think about it like this: we bake cookies at a specific temperature for a specific time to make them firm (or crisp) but continuing the process or putting them back into an oven afterwards tends to overcook them and make them more brittle. I'm no expert and I'm not even saying that it's 100% certain when it comes to powder coating wheels. I just try to understand what's been presented to me.
@@qleap99 you are correct from what I was told by two specialist painter's when I asked about getting my forged wheels refinished. Told me paint and not to power coat due to decrease in strength.
Im doing my cbr 600 rr rims with powder coat. I dont have an over big enough if I took a salamander and heat treat on a boxed in made oven would that work?
How much would it cost to typically sand blast and power coat a dirt bike frame? Just looking for a general bark park so when I go to a shop I know what to expect.
what if you powder coat the whole entire classic car thats all metal lets say? wouldnt that actually be better then paint? easier to clean, alot more durable, and dosnt rust? and alot cheaper if your doing a candy color right? and still get a amazing finish ive seen. idk i need opinions
Easier to clean ? Probably same as paint . More durable -> yes , but not rustproof as same as paint . idk if you can even put a zink coating under powder . Biggest flaw is the “ruff” texture , it has a lot more texture or orange peel which is not really noticeable on small surfaces like wheels but on a body of a car ..well it would look like the paint of a 1970 Trabant xD which was for fact also burnt in .
lol what is powder coat is its a thick finish haha thats was what powder coat leaves behind not what it is lol powder coat is a powdered plastic that is heated till it melt to the surface and flows out lol.. thanks for sharing

Will powder coating rotary forged or forged aluminum wheels weaken or compromise the strength of the wheel?
No it will not.
Depending on the temperature people use in the oven.

Although it is believed by many that this works we have not really seen anyone come out and really prove that this does strengthen the wheel!

will painting a wheel cause corrosion on it?
which is better paint or powder coat and why cars are not powder coated?
Because it cost more to powder coat when you are talking about manufacturing, it needs a big oven that can fit car parts.
Is this like a rival to custom offsets?
Big help! Thanks Claire
How could you compare everything except the price differences?? Only reason i watched
The Lambo in the background tho ❤️

There is actually heated paint booths which you control the temperature inside and get VERY hot (not sure how hot it has to be for powder coating)
I just had a set of wheels powder-coated by a local outfit. They are able to powder coat the entire frame of a car. That's how big their oven is.
