  • Since joining the league back in 2008, Pete DeBoer has produced quite the impressive NHL career, but given his recent performances in the league and the near-identical ways in which they have all concluded, it's possible that DeBoer might be cursed! After all, he has fallen in the Western Conference Finals 4 times in the last 5 seasons, all while coaching 3 different teams during that span!
But how has this happened? Well let's look closer into his recent journey in the league and try to find out, shall we?
So in today's video, join me as we explore Pete DeBoer's Conference Finals Curse!

As an Avalanche fan this coach has been a thorn in my ass since he’s been around. Meaning he’s a darn good coach. Not sure if he’s cursed but he’s a winner that hasn’t gone over the top….yet.

How do you like the idea of making a video about what happened to... Jim Slater? By the way, it would also be interesting to see about Milan Michalek and Marcel Goc

It's been said that DeBoer is very stubborn with his tactics and refuses to adjust to opposing teams' styles until it's too late, which is usually to blame for him never winning a cup.
And If you ask me, I feel that he's incapable of controlling his players, seeing how the whole Vegas Golden Knights team constantly got into trouble during the 2020 playoffs, and how Jamie Benn (the captain no less) decided to be an idiot and cross check a guy while he was down on the ice these past playoffs.

He kinda just stands back there looking like he's letting his dogs run around at the dog park, pretending he doesn't notice when his old sick one has diarrhea somewhere. And then he puts his puppy in a crate the second it barks.

As a Sharks fan, he was stubborn with his play style and it was so predictable. Our offense was one dimensional. He never made changes to the style. It was always dump it deep, do a cycle, pass it to the D-men at the point for a shot from there hoping for a tip in front.
Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a smart guy but he gets too stubborn and doesn’t trust rookies enough. He did some nice things in SJ and made adjustments where we needed them, but never adapted when needed too.

Reading game writeups from the 2012 SCF is eerie. Overplaying the main goaltender, deploying veterans who were outmatched, not cracking down on stupid penalties, establishing a predictable system and not replacing weak links in it...
I need people to stop praising this upcoming Dallas roster because this deeply cursed. I can feel it.

I don't know if this necessarily the direct cause, but we know that Deboer is a coach who preaches a system of prioritizing shot volume over shot quality, which I think is easier for opposing teams to decipher systemically than most other strategies, I don't believe his swansong in Vegas was purely caused by the extensive injuries they had

Seems like a good coach that just hasn’t hasn’t won the big one yet. Were any of his teams overwhelming favorites to win it all going into playoffs? I doubt it but even if they were, only one team wins it every year and it takes a lot of things to go right for you and wrong for the opponent to do so. I’d still rather have him then the majority of current NHL coaches.
