man this is the scariest most terrifying type of zomies. this happens in stalker too, the human is still sentient of everything but they can't control their body and they feel all the pain of their body decomposing. sometimes you can hear them call for help or ask where are their families
Stalker zombies are a bit different than most other zombies though because they're not undead, just completely fried in the brain from either the Brain Scorcher or other psi emissions
Same with Last of Us since there are instances of people being conscious about what they're doing like eating a corpse and then crying in despair with no control of their body
Zombies that are painfully aware of their situation, but are completely helpless to do anything about it are probably the most terrifying type of zombie.
I love much of a different feel there is to the Illuminate. The Terminids may feel some semblance of anger but they’re ultimately just a mindless swarm of animals. The Automotons definitely despise Super Earth but they’re primarily driven by cold ruthlessness and efficiency. With the Illuminate… there’s real malice to their actions, you can tell this is an enemy driven by their hatred of you. There’s history behind what they’re doing and their plans are pure malevolence driven by a need for a reckoning for the past. An enemy that not only needs to be destroyed due to the threat they pose but for the fact that while a single illuminate lives they will never stop in their quest to torture and degrade humanity. The War to come will be the hardest yet for more than one reason. For Super Earth and Humanity.
Indeed No wonder we wanted their tech We SAW their potential to hurt They Told us that They were pacifists but They Had weapons we feared ...its time that THEY SURRENDER AND NEVER RETURN!
somtimes you can see them waving both there hands, maybe there trying to signal for help to the helldivers or to surrender but after that they sprint to attack really fucked up and scary
Once I was doing a mission where I was getting some civilians out and they started waving at me and started pretending to be the civilians as they tried to go into the shuttle but they got blocked and then lost control again. It's so sad
@ I don’t think sympathizing with them specifically should be against super earth or treasonous since they were and still are (to small extend) still democracy loving citizens
@KN1FED4NCEThey are victims of the Illuminate scum. They don't want to hurt us, but they are forced to do so by those despicable cephalopod bastards. And often, the mind control will momentarily fail and the voteless will snap out of their mind control and either thank you for putting them out of their misery or to help you
Another detail is how you can tell which ones are more progressed into the transformation, some of the voteless can be found with tendrils for mouths and 3 eyes
My theory is that all the “Illuminate” we see are not true Illuminate. Everything we’ve been fighting is a mutant, or convert. True Illuminate have 4 arms, unless these Bipedal beings have had the surgery to remove the second set of lower limbs.
Helldivers are seen with immense respect, so them saluting you as they die is almost like them thanking and honoring you for putting them out of their misery
There's a very obvious animation of them saluting that happens, where they stand at attention and do it properly. Also another animation where they grab for their missing head Edit: I've seen the animation most often using the Blitzer. I think any sort of dismemberment or extreme force disables special animations like that from happening.
There’s also an animation of you shoot one of there feet off. They will stand on the intact foot while reaching for there missing one before falling over. It’s crazy how much detail they put into it.
Turns out they are. And this is just another universe deleted by the reapers. Perhaps the first and illumanids are the reaper origins. They both squids. Reapers are machines created tin their makes image
Ok I wanna talk about this because I think it’s so interesting. In the first game the dynamic is pretty similar to how it is here. The cyborgs just wanted to be free from super earth control, and the bugs were fully sentient and very cooperative before super earth realized they could be harvested for E710. The automatons are just what remains of the cyborgs and again just want their planet back, and the bugs in helldivers 2 are just mindless animals acting like mindless animals. But based on what I’ve seen from the illuminate, they’re the parallel to super earth themselves. They seem to have a similarly if not more authoritarian society, with great eyes literally being giant robots made specifically for watching illuminate society and “fixing” any noncompliance. Super earth is objectively the second worse guy in each game because the illuminate have always had us beat there.
I mean they are, Illuminate where just peaceful nerds before Super Earth attacked them. They are monsters but they are monster of Super Earth's own creation.
@@TheMantisLord50 In the first game, they did try to initiate peace first. They value knowledge above all, and wanted to share their knowledge with humans, but super earth attacked them because they wanted the Illuminate's nanotechnology. On the other hand, I think you might be right about their brutal society, and they also have a totalitarian caste system. And they obviously have been turning humans into zombies, so they're definitely not good guys.
The whole point of HD2 is that the enemies Super Earth made in the first game have returned with a vengeance, and its no clearer than with the illuminate. They were a pacifist race of psychic squids that made first contact with Super Earth in the form of a request for peace, which Super Earth declined due to their desire for the Illuminate's technology, leading to warfare and the subsequent genocide of the Illuminate across the galaxy. It only makes sense after 100 years of stewing in defeat and hatred they'd come back with a much more sinister and violent outlook on humanity. Even though the other factions are horrific, ultimately it was Super Earth that made them this way, intentional or not, so yes, we are our own worst enemies.
@@SirAroace AHEM are you forgetting we HAD to attack them citizen? They had weapons of mass destruction! I say the ministry of truth isnt going to be happy with your comment!

At first i was like "zombies? Time to bust out my black ops training skills" but then i realized they are actually our freedom loving citizens trapped in their own mind, forced to serve the squids. Sweet Liberty...the horror...the horror...
Are the Illuminate then, in a vengeful manner, trying to tell Super Earth: "This is what you are heading towards, all on your own." The Illuminate quite sound like the type to not merely try to physically conquer an existential threat like Super Earth, but defeat its worth and meaning to its adherents, perhaps by weaponizing its own ideals against it. To demonstrate Managed Democracy itself as an abhorrent thing to supposedly Freedom-loving citizens... by showing its logical conclusion: even your own body is not your body anymore. "My body... for Super Earth!", as Helldivers sometimes say while stimming. Did any Illuminate overhear this and take notes? "This is the ideal you've striven for. Embrace it."
These tortured souls can only ever be free again in death, and it’s our duty as Helldivers to administer that freedom, to liberate them of their suffering. You were born free, and you will die free.
Probably a homage to the movie 28 Days later, because there's a scene where protagonist venture into the abandoned church where he encounter an infected priest who retained consciousness and try to fight back to regain control of his body. The infected priest tried to signal the protagonist to go away by swinging his arms back and forth in the same manner as the zombies in Helldivers 2.
And some squid apologists thought that they are some kind of higher beings that are unaffected by vengeance and such. Look at them now. If they were truly higher beings, they would forgor about us and continue living in peace on whatever planet they were.
I've heard an argument that the illuminate are a splinter group from the original Squ'ith that couldn't reconcile and strove for revenge instead of leaving in peace like the rest. Their equipment, while similar, appears more crude compared to the sleeker designs from the first galactic war so perhaps they no longer have the support from their own home world anymore.
@@mlhx9181 That would make alot of sense, obviouspy not everyone is gonna agree with their own species so it'd make sense that some of the squith were just straight out for revenge
@@mlhx9181they were a species driven to near extinction. They’re all that remains and will never be able to reclaim their former glory. The reason they’ve abducted humans to use as fodder is because there are so few squids left to actually fight that they must artificially bolster their numbers.
The bugs want to spread and not be farmed for E-710, and the bots want to be left alone. But the squids? They clearly hate us, and want us gone. This time lets make those blue bloods stay extinct.
The reason there is so much malice in what the illuminate do in this game is because of what was done to them in the last game, as far as I can tell, they were pushed to the brink of extinction and the anger from that when The initial interactions were only kindness on their part has been boiling for. However, much time has passed between the two games and this is that anger boiling over

I actually felt bad when I saw these people. Originally I didn't hate the illuminate because we had taken their technology and pushed them out of the system for having weapons of mass destruction. But now it makes sense why Super Earth wanted them gone.
Well Super Earth genocided their entire species after they tried having a peaceful contact with SE. It makes sense they've decided mercy is folly and cruelty is the only answer to SE. Like don't act that people wouldn't be cheering if Halo humanity committed genocide against the Covenant.

armored voteless, they have more hp, less speed, and wear tattered helldiver gear with tendrils breaking through the visor. also their voicelines are muffled
The super-earth of 100 years ago was so generous in its disposition that today's squid is thinking about striking again. A light hammer makes a heavy nail.
Here is something Arrowhead should ad to Voteless. Multiple body types (slim, bulky, thin, fat) and different heigths. This would make them more varied and portray better that they are bunch of everyday civiliance.
I’d say every faction here are the “bad guys” but super earth is the least bad ones besides the fact they started this conflict with all the factions in the first place
Helldivers 2 is pretty much Warhammer 40k lite, and i'm not saying that as a mockery. The conflict is (relatively) tamer but the morality is more or less similar. No faction is inherently "good"
I like to think that the salute is the voteless finally being able to take control back and with their final act of freedom they chose to honor the ones that released them from their prison
If you know about the lore of the first game, the illuminates originally came offering cooperation when humanity was expanding, but super earth rejected in typical fashion. Just like the bots, who are the "children" of the oppressed cyborgs from HD1, the new illuminate are a vengeance force. helldivers 2 is SE fighting the consequences of their actions
The illuminate didnt start this, they are using Súper Earth tactics on humans. They we're the peacefully guys but we atracted them and as they didn't have war tech they got wipe out, now this is what is fight against illuminate
The Voteless is a tragic thing to see, maybe they can be helped, turned back into loyal democracy loving citizens once more, but sadly until then any helldiver must do what they must. Remember helldivers, you're putting an end to their misery, and helping super earth, never forget that.
from a non in game/roleplaying standpoint, ik that super earth attacked first 100 years ago and i understand the bitterness of the squids to want to take back whats theirs or to get revenge, but this mind control thing, on civilians no less, is way too far for them. i feel like this is an actual enemy i can hate morally both without the roleplay and within.
To be fair to the squids, as far as I can tell they were driven nearly to extinction and have had a hundred years for the rage to boil because of what was done to them when all they wanted was peace
@@the_undeadthey have the technology to go to super earth directly, instead they target citizens. Not to mention that they aren’t even staying on the planets they’re just making zombies as they go
This directly disproves Helldivers being the "bad guys." Super Earth may be a Big Brother-type propagandist dystopia(even with all the benefits), but they aren't horrific as the Automatons and the Illuminate are. One rips the brains out of people and shoves them into mechanized bodies, the other turns people into tortured zombies.
To be fair to the illuminates, they tried to be peaceful initially when Super Earth started wandering the stars. Super Earth then almost wiped their species This is only revenge Is it bad and cruel ? Yes. Is it understandable ? Absolutely.
@@HollowKuteTrue- and Super Earth seems to have pushed all the factions into supervillains, but now they’re the truly evil factions with how cruel their actions are. Especially the illuminates. That wasn't salute, it was grabbing its head after headshot. Though knowing Arrowhead, they'll patch it to be salute if enough fans believe and mention that.

man this is the scariest most terrifying type of zomies. this happens in stalker too, the human is still sentient of everything but they can't control their body and they feel all the pain of their body decomposing. sometimes you can hear them call for help or ask where are their families
Stalker zombies are a bit different than most other zombies though because they're not undead, just completely fried in the brain from either the Brain Scorcher or other psi emissions
@@TacticalBaguette mate fried in the brain is literally dead, have you never heard of a thing called brain dead? Cs I think you suffer from it lmao😂
Same with Last of Us since there are instances of people being conscious about what they're doing like eating a corpse and then crying in despair with no control of their body
Zombies that are painfully aware of their situation, but are completely helpless to do anything about it are probably the most terrifying type of zombie.
The bots put human brains in Automaton bodies. If you slow down a Berserker's voice you might hear " Help me", "I cannot stop".

That makes me wonder if on later stages of invasion there will be bigger infected
My theory is that all the “Illuminate” we see are not true Illuminate. Everything we’ve been fighting is a mutant, or convert. True Illuminate have 4 arms, unless these Bipedal beings have had the surgery to remove the second set of lower limbs.
A fate worse than death… not being able to vote 😢

Helldivers are seen with immense respect, so them saluting you as they die is almost like them thanking and honoring you for putting them out of their misery
This may help me sleep at night, actually.
No seriously, though, this makes sense and makes it a bit more comforting to think about. Good thoughts.
There's a very obvious animation of them saluting that happens, where they stand at attention and do it properly. Also another animation where they grab for their missing head
Edit: I've seen the animation most often using the Blitzer. I think any sort of dismemberment or extreme force disables special animations like that from happening.
There’s also an animation of you shoot one of there feet off. They will stand on the intact foot while reaching for there missing one before falling over. It’s crazy how much detail they put into it.

The "Super Earth are the real bad guys!" crowd has been real quiet lately....

The Illuminate quite sound like the type to not merely try to physically conquer an existential threat like Super Earth, but defeat its worth and meaning to its adherents, perhaps by weaponizing its own ideals against it.

Only in death does duty ends.
