I have a appetizer recipe that was passed down to me. It’s called a taco dip. You can either use one pack of cream cheese, one can of Hormel chili with beans and one bag of mild cheddar cheese first of all you melt the cream cheese in the microwave for a few minutes and pad it down, then you add the Hormel chili on top of that and then you put the cheese on top and put it back into microwave until it’s melted. It’s fast recipe and I found it. Lots of people love it.
My mother-in-law used to take a piece of lunch meat, spread whipped cream cheese in the center and would wrap that around a spring green onion. It was fast, easy and always was eaten first!
My mom had an amazing go to recipie that is super easy. Mix 1 cup mayo with, 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese (green can type works or fancy type) and 1 cup green onion chopped. spread mixture on individual sliced sourdough baguette pieces (or bigger bread slices cut smaller). Put on cookie sheet, Bake in oven 375 degrees for 5 to 10 minutes (until golden and bubbley). We called them onion breads. Super yummy and easy!
when i was first learning to cook my father, God rest his soul, after choking down something i had made with great pride that i had substituded baking soda out for baking powder, he gave me the best advice that i still use to this day 50 years later. He told me, " when trying out a new recipe always follow the directions exactly as they are written. once you become more experienced as a cook you will know what can be substituded for other hings and what can't, what you can take out and what you can add based on your tastes." Bless his heart he always ate whatever i put in front of him never complaining, just eating it up like it was a Christmas dinner with a smile on his face. no matter how burnt it was or if i had accidently mixed up the salt & sugar. he was my biggest advocate and gave me helpful advice. It was him that made me not give up and why i enjoy cooking for my family, why i'm such a good cook now, and why i'm not afraid to try to cook new things. Unfortunately i married the typical midwestern man, all meat and potatoes. but i always have a plan B for him if he doesn't like what i'm serving. it's called a bowl of cereal, lol
Another that a chef friend of mine makes.Lay out a sheet of plastic wrap.Cover with a rectangle of smoked salmon. Spread a layer of cream cheese mixed with finely chopped shallots and fresh dill.Roll up jellyroll style and freeze. Before serving remove from freezer and stice thin rounds and serve on bagel slices cut into small diagonal rounds.decorate with a small feather of fresh dill and 3 capers.(a small amount of cream cheese on the bagel will stabilize the presentation) Your guests will be suitably impressed. Delicious !
Love these type of recipes So agree with you I treasure the recipes from dear people who have been a part of my life especially those no longer here. Greater than any gift that could be purchased. It's tragic how we are losing & already lost real human contact in this world.
Terri, It truly is tragic! I found out recently that my step mother, who outlived my dad by 18 years, is in hospice in the US. It saddens me to think I haven't even seen her in the past 15 years. And being separated from family for the past 3 years with covid certainly hasn't helped. Its a blessing to have these old recipes where we can recall loved ones as cook. Take care, ❤
I find your recipes delicious and easy to follow. Also really enjoy how you present. Feels like a normal conversation as if I were just sitting in you kitchen having a coffee while you show me how to cook these appetizers. Thanks
I have spread cream cheese on a platter.. spread cocktail sauce over cream cheese.. sprinkle Tiny shrimp from a can on top of cocktail sauce.. very good on a cracker. I love these types of appetizers.. easy, simple and tasty. Love watching you. Merry Christmas 🎄
Hello Deborah, I am sorry that it has taken me quite some time to respond. Time seems to be moving rapidly and I am trying to catch up. This sounds like something my husband would like so I will give it a try. Thank you, Colleen
I will definitely have to try these. I knew a lady that had her own catering business, and she had a recipe that I just love. The ingredients are captain wafers, prosciutto or thinly sliced bacon and parmesan cheese. I always use bacon as I can't afford the other one. Stretch the bacon length wise and cut in half, then wrap a piece around the middle of a captain wafer (it will look like a bowtie), bake at 350 degrees F until the cracker starts to brown and bacon is done, immediately remove from the oven and sprinkle the parmesan cheese on top (as much as you like), eat while warm.
Thank you Sandra, I am going to look it up because I haven't heard of a Captain wafer before but maybe we just simply call it something else. Best wishes, Colleen
Thanks for sharing! A very nice and healthy appetizer are the caprese little skewers, just put a grape tomate, then a leaf of basil and a bocconcino cheese. They are deliciuos and great for holidays!
colleen, I have used leftover ham from holidays, pulsed in my food chopper/processer, add sweet pickle relish and mayo or cream cheese. DONE ! ! ! It is very simple to make your own flavored cream cheese. Use jam/jelly for a fruit flavor, or garlic & herbs for a delicious spread or topping for baked potatoes. This can save a lot of money too. Enjoy. Keep sharing recipes.
Hello Joann, I've done that as well but these are older methods and not everyone knows about them. Thank you for sharing your ideas and keep them coming. Cheers, Colleen
An easy yet totally delicious recipe for a cheeseball uses cream cheese, dried beef (preferably the Armor brand in a little jar although I have used cold cuts), green onion, and a squirt or two of Worcestershire sauce. Always a hit!
Really quick and delicious. I’d add more garlic and butter for the biscuits with cheddar cheese or 3 cheeses. I’d mix the softened cream cheese with my favourite herbs plus the green onions. The sky’s the limit for variety. Great ideas! Thank you for sharing💖🇨🇦
Crockpot mushrooms are always a winner. This recipe doubled works well for a 5-6qt crockpot. 1lb mushrooms, 1 packet of dry ranch dressing, 1 stick of butter. Melt butter, add dressing. Put cleaned mushrooms in crockpot, pour butter-dressing over. Cook on high for 2 hours; stir once or twice. Can cook on low for 4 hours.
Colleen I was born in our Family home 72 yrs ago - delivered by my Father as I am the youngest of 10 children & moved to the next suburb when I married (5 minutes away) so yes I know what you mean about knowing people. Those snacks look amazing Thank you as I often want quick little bites, unfortunately we can't get the tinned ham or the biscuits in that tube so I will try doing mine slightly differ. Also the English Muffins turned out perfectly. 🥰😃 Cheers Denise- Australia
My favorite one is tortillas spread with a mixture of finely chopped pickled veggies ( I like sauerkraut, green olives, dill pickles, and marinated artichokes) mixed with softened cream cheese and a packet of ranch dressing mix, spread and rolled up tightly then cut into small segments.
I'm absolutely happy to find your channel. I've always been a big foodie but don't have the energy to cook like before. These recipes are a great way to enjoy something that doesn't requireball the fuss but still delicious.. I will absolutely be saving each of these and thank you for sharing.
Back in the 60’s we had a recipe similar to your ham spread. But instead on ham we used shrimp. There was no flavored cheese so the spices we used was what we had on hand. And the cream cheese was the block. We can still buy that today. The shrimp was pre cooked and frozen. We were all poor so this was a real treat. Everybody had small children and we shared baby clothes from a friend whose child had outgrown. Wow, it was a different world then.
It certainly is a different world. I remember being grateful for the hand me downs my kids got. I also remember when you offered slips feom your house plants and now everyone wants to be paid for them. Different world for sure! Thanks for your memories Martha.
we were in the air force from 60 to 64 we were poor but didn't know it. we were all really young and shared everything, especially close to pay day We had some really interesting meals, everyone brought what they had, the memories are gold. It isn't just about the food.
I couldn't find flaked ham here, so I just popped in some small, cubed ham pieces into my blender for a couple pulses - I like mine on crackers and the kiddos like the ham spread as a sandwich!!! thank you for sharing!!
I do the salami chips, but I grate cheese (any kind, Parm, sharp cheddar, pepper jack) on both Salami, and pepperoni.... Love these, slightly addictive 😉
All three recipes sound delicious and thanks for sharing them! I've never heard of canned flaked ham, it's just not something sold in my area of the US. I think I will use a can of ham instead and just cut it up to use in the recipe. I can see using the pull-apart recipe as a base for any number of things: use any type of cheese or add meat, or even peppers/onions! The possibilities are endless!!
Excellent, I am so happy to hear the recipes might be useful for you! Thanks for watching and I hope that you continue to find reasons to stay with the channel.
Thank you for sharing these recipe’s. A friend shared her salami appetizer which I like and it’s a slice of salami, spread cream cheese on it then add a quarter wedge of dill pickle then roll it up.
The blue cheese biscuits would be good with buffalo chicken dip. I think I will try it with homemade yeast roll dough instead of biscuits. Thanks for the recipes😊
Boursin cheese pucks would be a great sub for the blue cheese. They have several flavors and I think they would crumble well for the prep (and I am not a big fan of blue cheese). I'm definitely going to try these recipes for our frequent pitch-ins at work. So glad I have just found your channel. Keep sharing.❤
I have just found your channel. The ham and cream cheese can be served in celery, cucumber cups, thin cross slices of radish or carrot for a low carb/diabetic option. I’m looking forward to trying the salami chips as they would also be diabetic friendly. The holidays are a hard time of the year for me. Thank you for sharing these.💜🐞
These all look delicious Colleen, thanks for sharing. I will offer you a dip recipe that I have been using for over 50 years. Using a hand mix, blend 2 8oz. pkgs. cream cheese that you softened with one can of Rotel tomatoes and green chilies. Mix until well combined. You can use as a dip with corn chips, potato chips, vegetables, pretzels or even spread on the bun of your grilled hamburger. You can use store brand cheese but do not use low fat because it will be drippy. Have a Blessed day.
Hello Margaret, I have just come across the message you left me almost 5 months ago. I am sorry for the delay in answering. I got a bit behind and am trying to catch up. I look forward to trying this recipe. We do enjoy having a dip and this one sounds easy delicious. Best wishes, Colleen
We make a similar dip hear but use sausage cream cheese a can Rotel or a jar of salsa either one and some Velveeta block cheese yummy best chip dip it's amazing
Brown one pound of pork sausage and drain. Mix with 8oz salsa of choice into a small microwave dish. Zap until salsa/sausage heated. Top with 12oz grated jack cheese and zap again until cheese is melted. Serve with scoop corn chips. Super yummy!
Yummy! Can't wait to try all of these! I love garlic and also love bleu cheese! And salami is one of my favorite cold cuts!! Thank you so much for sharing! New subscriber here from Ohio. 🙂 P.S. I see some other yummy sounding recipes down in the comments! Thank you folks for sharing also!!
The one I like a lot is three ingredients too: 1 tub whipped cream cheese softened, a jar of pickled asparagus drained and Pat dry, package of the thicker sandwich ham patted dry. Lay out 1 slice spread cream cheese then one spear and roll they are so good, place in container and chill
We’ve used the green part of a green onion in the middle instead of asparagus. I’ve also started putting the cream cheese in a ziplock bag, cut a hole in the bottom and squeeze it on to the ham. Tastes just as good.
Baked Italian chicken Cut up chicken pieces, italian dressing, 1 onion sliced over chicken, sliced potatoes to cover chicken, Drizzle dressing over all. Bake 350 about 1 hr.
Very yummy!! To make it even easier..the salami or pepperoni on a layer of paper towels on a heatproof plate can be popped into the microwave! I do this for salads etc..makes it even faster & eliminates some dishes!
My best chicken salad recipe: 1 cup of leftover rotisserie chicken diced, 1/2 cup fresh oregano diced small (yes it must be fresh, dried just won't do), and just enough mayonnaise to tie it all together. The fresh oregano adds a lemony pop and the chicken is already seasoned so no need to add salt and pepper.
If you like it double the cream cheese and add 2 cans of hormel chili . I use the one with beans .
This sounds really interesting Connie, thank you for sharing it here. Best wishes, Colleen
I think we’ve made it since the 70s…still popular with everyone!

SPAM! Yes, Spam. Stay with me. Shred/grate a small amount of Spam, sprinkle as a garnish. We like the spicy version.
I actually know this one but used small bread cut outs. I worked at a museum and we had member parties. These were served and I love them.
I used to make them and we toasted the rounds in the oven until firm and flip over and place the topping on and bake.
Not aa big mayo fan but I bet cream cheese with the mayo is good.

Oh my goodness! I just remembered my momma making this when they played cards!
I do this except with shredded crab meat in can. Put it all on a glass cake holder with crackers around it. Great dip
I do canned crab and not the tiny shrimp.. Both would be good

Lwe use club crackers or ritz.
You can also top with brown sugar instead of parmesan. Both are delicious!
@@oursilvermoments6028 The Captains Wafer is like the Peanut Butter crackers, a little pkg with 6 crackers but has cream cheese type of filling 🤷♀️
I love bacon I bet these are so good ❤
My mother was a caterer and she made these!
I've had the Blue Chese, Garlic biscuits before and I absolutely LOVE them!!!! I use just a little spinkle of hot sauce with mine.

Dill pickle spear + green onion + cream cheese is how my sister makes these. I look forward to holiday dinners at her house!
We’ve used the green part of a green onion in the middle instead of asparagus. I’ve also started putting the cream cheese in a ziplock bag, cut a hole in the bottom and squeeze it on to the ham. Tastes just as good.
Baked Italian chicken
Cut up chicken pieces, italian dressing, 1 onion sliced over chicken, sliced potatoes to cover chicken,
Drizzle dressing over all. Bake 350 about 1 hr.
Looks yummy!
Thank you!
Hello fellow Canadian our weather today is real Winter .
Love your recipes .Merry Chrismas and Happy New Year .
Looks delicious.
Very yummy!! To make it even easier..the salami or pepperoni on a layer of paper towels on a heatproof plate can be popped into the microwave! I do this for salads etc..makes it even faster & eliminates some dishes!
Thank you for that April, I had never even considered putting it in the microwave. Best wishes, Colleen

Thanks. They look great. Aussie Bob 😊
Sounds delicious!
Those chips with cream cheese would be good.
Thank you, we think so!
