Man, I wish they'd stop blocking the Beatles on RUclips. New generations need to be able to hear these songs, to understand why they are so highly esteemed. Without exposure, it's possible that for most of the public, they'll become a historical footnote. Thanks for doing this one, Cliff.

That's what I'm saying: of course people will continue to hear the name The Beatles, but as time keeps going on, people will gradually stop hearing the music so often, till it's rare, then eventually, they just become a name... a historical footnote. And like Bach, or Glenn Miller, or B.B. King, people will know the name, but not really know why.

The song that came to McCartney in a dream was Yesterday. He kept playing riffs from it and asking people what it was. Since no one knew it, he finally realized that he had created it. Let It Be, was inspired by a visit from his dead mother in a dream, but I'm not sure that the melody came to him in the dream.

And John Lennon was only 24 when he wrote this song... A man with a lot of emotion and clever wordplay to express those emotions. Oh yes... the song your Dad remembered that Paul dreamt of, was Yesterday... he had the chords and melody in his head when he woke up and he thought that it must have been a song he had already heard... so he went around asking a load of people as he played them the rough chords... and of course everyone was saying nope, don't know that so it eventually became his song Yesterday. Oh yes... becuase he didn;t have lyrics at the beginning, the working title for the song was Scambled Eggs... Try it and see, sing scrambled eggs in place of Yesterday... it works.

Ringos drums. Just gently swinging all the way through. Psychedelia begins here too. Note the distorted album cover, this was 1965! They're just hinting at it here with Norwegian Woods sitar and George's brilliant If I Needed Someone. No hiding it on the next album Revolver. With Tommorow Never Knows they kicked open the doors of perception and went full psyche madness. No one had ever heard anything like it. The Beatles led, everybody else followed

I saw them at the Indiana State Fair in 66 when I was 12 . You could barely hear them with all screaming and lousy stage equipment. Correct - McNartney would have dreams and come up with songs in his head. As you noted Let It Be was one as the Beatles were going through the break-up and his most famous (most covered song ever) Yesterday. There songs/melodies will live forever.

Note when listening to 1960's stereo mixes. As they generally only had 4 tracks to mix, they had basically no choice but to pan some of the tracks hard left or hard right to create the stereo picture , otherwise it would sound very very similar to mono. and not have the stereo separation. However, vocals were normally in the centre, Rubber Soul was mixed a bit differently.

This was a John Lennon song. You should really check out his songs "Nowhere Man" and "Girl".
"Rubber Soul" is one of those iconic albums in the history of popular music.
This is the one that Lennon called the "Pot album" and you can really hear it in the contrast of their previous albums..
This was released on December 3, 1965 and in the same day they released a double A-side single "Day Tripper"/"We Can work It Out". Who does that? Especially in 1965. Both songs quickly shot to #1 on both the Billboard charts here in the US and also in the UK.
Both are great songs and shows just how great they were. Their song "Yesterday" written by McCartney and was relegated to side two of their previous Lp "Help" released on August 6, 1965 and has gone on too be the most covered song in history with as of now has had over 2,200 artist that have recorded a cover of the song. Let that number sink in for a moment.
McCartney actually dreamt the melody of the song one night. He thought he had to have heard it somewhere because you just don't dream things up like that. He hawked it around everywhere around to friends and people in the industry (and in 1965 he probably knew a lot of people) and no one had ever heard it before.
Funny how genius can hit some people in odd moments. He was only 23 when he wrote this song.
In late 1968 The Beatles were starting have a great deal of friction between them and one night his beloved mother "Mary" who died of breast cancer when he was just 14, came to him in a dream. He loved The Beatles and was very upset where things were heading. She appeared to him and told him you can't worry about everything and just have to
"Let It Be". Lennon also has a few songs that came to him in his sleep. He said that with "Nowhere Man" he sat up in bed and made his way over to a piano and it was all there, both the melody and lyrics. That's almost spooky.
    Peace ❤

Rubber Soul is the album that catapulted the Beatles into a stratosphere all their own.... In My Life is a "John" song.... for a great "Paul" song from this album try "Drive My Car"

As with Beethoven, Mozart, etc., much Beatles work is stuff I would describe as crafted: everything where it needs to be.

Paul McCartney is the 2nd wealthiest musician, and unlike the others on the list, his wealth came mainly from the 19th century when prices were a lot lower, no mtv, no internet, just them and record sales. Of course some of it came in the 20th century, but the majority of it came from their early work, before American Idol. Starting in a basement bar in Liverpool.

This is a classic. I guess a lot of the Beatles songs are. Let it be is a good one. Sorry to hear about your mom's dog. Loss of a pet is hard... went through a few of them in my lifetime. Hope all is well, Cliff. ❣🙏

Most likely, the song your dad was referring to was yesterday. The music came to Paul in a dream and he was using the word scrambled eggs instead of yesterday in the beginning.

You really need to check out the Beatles' "I Want You, She's So Heavy." Lead singer is John Lennon. It's a fantastic song. Another song I recommend is "Taxman." Lead singer is George Harrison. George hated paying taxes.

Good reaction, dude. Yeah, bittersweet. So sorry about your mom's dog. Somehow, losing a dog actually hurts more than losing a person. BTW, Chisox blow, Twins rule.
