Nice video. I’m with you on seating those a little deeper..I seat up closer to the top of the top driving band. I prefer the Redding profile crimp die or a Lee collet crimp for these type of rounds. But the taper crimp works. Roll crimp can work for uncoated lead bullets. RCBS does make a seater/roll crimp die for 45 AR/GAP that will reach down far enough in the 45 CS round to roll crimp your crimp grooved 45 Colt bullets. That’s the one I use for those. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

I don't have a sizing die so I need to be aware of my bullet diameter to keep it .001 larger than my revolver cylinder bore especially when using 9mm for 38spl, turns out 1 of the 6 lets a plated 9mm round drop through while the other 5 don't.. any thoughts on using coated 38 bullets for 9mm reloads since they are usually sold as .358? I've been doing that but worried my pressures might spike with the size difference, I do prefer coated lead as it might be more forgiving if size off slightly?

As reloading for over 45years I've learned so much and always welcome new teaching information. I bought a rossi brawler 45colt/410single shot pistol with 9 in barrel over a year ago , very strong firearm . testing it at pressures that would blow up a colt and many clones . my standard load hunters supply 250gr lhp 964fps 516 ft/lb. I've tested this firearm with same bullet 1132 fps 771 ft/lb only testing definitely not for regular shooting .nor do I recommend anyone else to do. the big plus is I shoot lower power 45acp in this single shot using metric nitrile o rings from harbor freight, sizes 8x2mm and 8.8x1.9 . putting o rings on back of 45acp case to keep case from falling down barrel. works great, seals around case tight and ejects great. o rings can be reused many, many times. I enjoyed the video and wishing you well. Papa 😊

Maybe also try a light roll crimp over that forward edge of that last driving band.
They suggested that several decades ago in the Speer reloading manual, when they made 146 grain semi wad cutter, semi jacked lead tips hollow points for the heavy 38 spl and especially
    the .357 magnum loads.

I crimp with the sizing die. I remove the decapping spindle completely. I put the handle all the way down and hold it there. Screw the sizing die down and feel it contact the case mouth. screw it down in small increments until you get the crimp you need. Lock the die and you are ready to run them all through.

I’ve been loading p220 and it’s been leading slowly but it’s easy to clean. When I first shot it the forcing cone shoulder was too prominent and I couldn’t load proper length so it wouldn’t feed well so I lapped it down a bit and fixed that but I do use a roll crimp I’ll check into it and see if it’s a problem now.

After a year still new to this! I have Lee progressive press, I think I'll remove the indexing rod(easy to do) to have better control over function, especially when first setting up, I've found it difficult to see powder in 38 cases so I sit at a 45* angle to be closer to the back of press where bullet seats so it's easier to take case out to check. I think I once double charged a 5 grain load because of the flash/recoil and cylinder jam, had to knock the case out with a rod and you can feel a slight bulge above the case web(added to my mistakes jar, oh and the primer was flattened and showed cratering . Better to learn from other's mistakes but I certainly pay more attention to details when reloading!

I'm wondering why you don't just seat the bullet deep enough to do a slight roll crimp over the top of the driving band?

    • @jesseboutdoorsreloading

I’m messing with it for the first time and learning.

@jesseboutdoorsreloading fair. I'm running my loads in a Ruger Redhawk, and loading medium warm with .45 ACP bullets and Silhouette or True Blue.
With this same profile bullet from Gallant I usually seat it just deep enough to roll over the top of that driving band. I found it improved my accuracy and SD. With a revolver I'm more worried about a bullet moving out rather than being pushed in with recoil.
I can send you some data if you are interested.

I have been using cast bullets from Lee's 230 grain tumble lube 45 ACP mold in 45 LC brass and I had to crimp over the top of the last band in order to maintain my max overall length. Haven't tried them yet at the range, but they look decent enough.

New subscriber and new to metallic reloading as well. I've been loading shotshells for a while now and just getting into 45 colt. I actually have a mold for these bullets and am looking for a good unique load for them since I have unique anyway. From what I can find 8-8.5 but thought you might have some input. Thanks in advance.

I use unique with a 255gr bullet at 8-8.5. Usually if I’m using a 200gr I’m looking for light loads so I haven’t tried unique with it. Thanks for the sub.

I'm interested in his reply. I am very leery of brands of critical components, like primers, from an unknown source/supplier. Approach with trepidation. For me , no way. They might be made in China, by the CCP.

Aside from those bullets having that coating is there any reason for not using a lube in that lube ring ?
