Reloading 45 Cowboy Special with 230gr NE Reloading 45 ACP Bullets and Hodgdon HP38.
WARNING!!!! Pressure in the 45 ACP is far greater than that of a 45 Colt guns. Not good to use 45 ACP data cartridges to be used in 45 Colt guns.
45 ACP max pressure is 21,000 PSI.
45 Colt max pressure is 14,000 PSI.
I’m using a low charge for 45 ACP, which is below the 14,000 PSI for 45 Colt guns.
If you’re not sure how to reload these safely, I recommend not reloading these rounds and sticking with reloading 45 Colt for your safety.

A few years ago I found a 45 ACP cylinder in a parts store and picked it up and fitted it to one of my 1875 45 Colts. I don't bother making 45 specials anymore, but instead I save all my small primer 45 ACP's and load them for my revolver. I just have to keep those away from my progressive press for obvious reasons :) I want to pick up another cylinder for the 1873 and fit it someday...also wouldn't mind buying one for my 58's and maybe 51's in ACP. I prefer 45 Colt, but when it comes to standard loads ACP is efficient and enjoyable.
