That tank looks fantastic, you've proved that tanks from India are great. I would never dare ride a bike without proper protective gear, cant believe that you did especially in shorts. You're a very brave man who obviously has never come off of a bike!
Putting around slow you wouldnt expect too much trouble but I would still wear a Helmet always.
@nowhere529 You can still end up with severe gravel rash even at slow speeds if you came off. It doesn't have to be your fault to have an accident. As I said I wouldn't dare to ride a motorcycle like you did, still it's your choice.
Was glad to hear music again.. then I seen your old girl.. I was wary of new tank..old one looked fine.. but it really is a huge improvement..
Really. Everyone else complains about my music! Yeah, I think its an improvement.
Yeah, before I read this I was going to comment about the music, it's not bad itself but I'd just prefer without it, but a nice bike,. I'm 70 years old and since when I was a teenager I've always liked these Interceptors. I've owned a lot of bikes but never one of these.@@bullpencycles
Looks much nicer with the chrome tank.👍
Thank you
Looks good, I would be worried about putting the stickers on but it looks like you nailed it.
I found the 1up three down real good on my commandos better than the triumphs and really good ratios.hi from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Young Dave, tank looks good BUT use a rust protectant, especially in humid areas. Indian chrome is thin and won't last unless protected. I rode my RE this morning then my WR450 this afternoon. Right foot change to left foot change. My brain was messed up for a moment but it all came back.
Thanks. Will do.
Wow looks great Dave.....the bike sounds great as well.
Love old brit bikes....
Nick from the UK.
Me too, although I expect our opinions are aging out!
Getting those emblems on right
Takes a fine eye/hand coordination looks fine. Interested in what your doing to the Greaves as well . Old timer bicycle riding neighbor.
I think the Greeves will need rings at minimum. I did most everything else it needed.
A old friend of mine used to vintage race a grieves MX bike. 68 with the earles front. I always thought they looked odd. In a cool way.
Sounds great Dave
Yeah, that might be the period Dunstalls.
Thank you.
Yes Dave, You do not want to break tradition.
Oh, yes indeed.
Excellent job! Beautiful bike!!
Thank you very much!
Also known affectionally as "Leaking Oil field". nice bike Dave
Or if in Iowa, Royal Cornfield.
I heard Royal Oilfield before
Look's good Dave!! enjoy your videos !!
Thanks 👍
One other thing Dave Bruno looks right at home.
Yes, but he is still a little skittish around the bikes when I start them.
The chromed tank looks great and the orange/red stripe aswell. Close to the original I would say. What was the name of the company in India?
It was on ebay. The seller was
aakashshukla14, but I dont know much else.
Dave looks great My opinion is it would look Hideous with those other decals
Yes. I think I agree with your assessment.
Just a suggestion next time you measure a round object like a gas tank try using a small key chain tape measure they go around curves better and you will get a more accurate measurement
Agree. Here was good enough for goverment work
The only problem I had was that the petcocks were too close to the inlet rocker covers. They seem to have mounted them too far forward, but it is still a good repro tank.
Always wanted a enfeild Indian 750 scrambler type street bike .
Dear Dave,
I agree with previous comments; chrome tank looks ace and definitely the older-style decals. I assume, given the era, that RE were trying to be 'hip', appeal to a younger market, etc., with those awful others.
Disagree about the music, I liked it - although, to be honest, that exhaust note is music enough for any petrolhead.
Can you comment about dimensional accuracy/fit; quality/thickness of the steel, chrome, et al? Obviously time will tell, in some respects (eg ethanol fuel) but there are so many -ve comments on line about Indian tanks that yours seem positively ecstatic. I have to say that I haven't noticed any quality problems with my new 650 Interceptor.
btw DOWTY was a major UK aerospace company, involved in hydraulics (undercart, oleo legs) and airscrews, etc. I too have Dowty washers on my fuel lines and oil plugs (RE 250 GT, Triumph T100A).
Enjoyed the video, many thanks.
Love the cool background music!
Thanks. Other folks hated it! Oh well!
Hi Dave , they make real-good alloy-tanks in India also and they are reasonably-priced Dave nz
I thought about that for some of my Bultacos, but did not want to shop blind.
Love that left mirror, lol, just like the old days.
Most of my mirrors are loose so I can pack the bikes tighter in the trailer, load them in the van, etc. Its a thing.
When my Continental GT Mr. Clean tank arrived from India via ebay it already had light rusting inside.
Well worth the effort, transformed it
I think so. Thank you
Thanks Dave, from Uk Keep up the good work @@bullpencycles
Looks good, mate.
Thanks
Looks good from where I'm at.
Thanks mans
You’d expect Indians to get a Royal Enfield tank about right! I’ve got a couple of tanks for my Triumph 750 Bonneville, as the genuine article even unpainted usually costs more. The first one maybe 7 years ago and about AU$400. Black with red flashes, gold stripe. It looked pretty good. Had to chase out the fuel cock threads and it did well for about 3 years until the aromatics in the fuel got under the topcoat and bubbled paint via the gas cap and I suspect the badge screw sockets too.
Ordered another and it arrived wrapped in plastic which had crazed the surface. Totally useless considering the whole point was to avoid painting it myself. Launched an eBay dispute and the vendor wanted to give me $100 to get it repainted. This wouldn’t buy the paint here in Australia! Got my money back.
The trouble is they all use the same generic photo, so you don’t really know the quality from one seller to another. They also often use low quality non fuel-resistant primer. The gas caps never seal effectively either. So the gas bleeds into the soft primer from around the filler neck. These usually need to be flattened and smoothed too.
But if you’re prepared to do a bit of work: seal the tank, get a decent gas cap, chase threads and maybe even shoot it with a good 2K clear, then they can be pretty good value. But they are cheap, they do cut corners and India is a long way for return issues. Even the fuel cock locations can be a bit random and they can be dimensionally a bit off too. I kept the bad one and eventually repainted it. Not what I wanted to do but it’s OK now. I also have a chrome one that is noticeably better quality of manufacture but it’s still a lottery as they don’t quite get the concept of quantity control.
That one looks sharp though! 👍🏻
Hi there
I've just come across your channel , good watch 👍
The tank looks better than I expected , buying tinware from India seems a bit of a lottery , did you take pot luck on which company or did you have a recommendation
I think I had a recommendation.
yep one up three down right hand shift, positive to ground😁 put brain in gear before leaving.....gotta love the Norton roadholder frontend RE used.😂😂🇦🇺🇦🇺
You got that right!
know why they named it the Royal Enfield??? they named it the Royal Enfield because of the metric system. if they'de named it the Quarter Pounder with Cheese Enfield they wouldn't know what that means over seas.
I dont know. They used to make guns.
Bought an Indian made tank for my BSA A10, tank is ok but, most of the chrome plate peeled off.
Oh, that's sad!
?. Reverse shift. 1 up 3 d0wn?.
It's good 4 dragway 1/4 mile rrips.
Yup that's right. Just like Nortons. Just dont drop into 3rd on the freeway! Ask me how I know....
Yep. Me 77Sporter RH shift took a little getting used 2 also. ✌️
My 74 Superglide same pattern.
Left or right doesn't bother me. All my old Triumphs are like that, but shifting up to shift down, oh man!
Get rid of annoying music (sorry racket) otherwise great vid, interceptor nice (a proper one 😀)
Much better 👍
Yeah, I think so too
No its not backwards, 1 up and 3 down was around pretty much as soon as they changed from hand shifting on most British bikes except for triumph . Mostly in burman , albion and BSA boxes though. In my world everything modern is backwards.😂
Hell...harleys are constructed in India
Thrown together in America
The cheap ones were, although not the models sold here.
I can't think this slow......
Give it some time. It gets easier.
lousy review, to much other BS
She's a beuat
Thank you
That's great, but I didn't get who the supplier was ?.
It was on ebay. The seller was
aakashshukla14, but I dont know much else
looks great mate ! (but lose that horrible music ) bike lovers want to hear the bikes for 100% ! , hi from Australia 👍
Hi. The music is the bane of my existence I must say!
