Great. Not only am I insecure, but now I feel guilty about it.
Edit: It's been 3 years and people keep telling me that I'm missing the point. So I watched it again, and I stand by what I said. Telling someone they shouldn't feel insecure because someone else has it worse is akin to telling them that they don't have the right to feel the way they do. Most people can't control their feelings. And the apparent 'knowledge' that they should be happy with themselves because of some arbitrary level of privilege can have compounding negative effects.
No one's inner struggles have a one size fits all solution. If you think you have a problem, go to therapy. There are people who've been trained to help you. This guy is not one of them.

My biggest problem is that I am a little oblivious - I have no idea whether a girl is just being nice or actually likes me. So I ere on the side of caution. Also another problem is that sometimes you can become arrogant with too much love and you wont be able to really push yourself. People in the war didnt really love themselves (though they didnt REALLY care about insecurities), but they strived for honour and to defend the motherland and so many died, but the ones who survived had done just what they wanted to do. However on the other hand you get people nowadays that love themself who dont really pay attention to the outside world who get obese or bully people and have no goals in life. Its one hell of a balance. A quote from the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him ,"An extremist is one who shoots the arrow at the game, but with so much force that the arrow goes right through it"

You know, just because someone doesn't want a relationship at a certain age, doesn't mean they are saying "I never want a man in my life at any point until I am 105. Then, and only then, can I marry."

your video got me crying in shame. shame because i am not being grateful for what i have been given (health, a mother who loves me more than herself, being able to walk, see, taste, having enough money to study etc.), but instead of that, i waste my time thinking i am not capable of approaching any woman because she would think i am just not good enough for her, because my body type is strange and unattractive, because my skin is not perfect, because my size is not the one that all girls mention to admire and so on... and it's all so clear now. In order to find happiness, you have to accept the things you can't change. You have to show gratitude for the opportunities you are being given in life, in contrast to those who are on a wheeling chair, those stuck in a hospital working their way out of a situation called "cancer" and so on. Not looking down upon them, but being grateful that you can leave your house anytime and change the world. Yes, you can change everything and make everything great for you or the people around you even with an ugly nose or a non-perfect body. Thanks a lot.
p.s. i apologise for my poor vocabulary and the terrible syntax, i am not a native speaker.

Or you could just fix the things that bother you by getting a nose job, proper skincare etc. What does the video even say? I should feel better about myself just because some people have it worse than me? Well plenty of people have it better than me. Where does it end? This argument could be used for any scenario, it's ridiculous to think this would cure anyone's insecurities and if it does they probably didn't have real insecurities in the first place.

I don't have a wheelchair, but I am clinically depressed and I have ptsd, and I have been made feel bad about it by a lot of people as well, very close people even people who I loved and that loved me. But I am just not going to accept that kind of treatment. I deserve to be loved and happy, just like anyone else and so do you. So never accept the burden that other people give you when they categorize you or stick a certain image on you. There is good and bad in everyone, so I'm not necessarily labeling those people good or bad, but a person who does that is not worth your time and this could certainly speed up the selection process for you when you date or meet new people. There is always hope and there are always people who we could match with, that if we are comfortable with ourselves and love ourselves completely, we will meet and we can have a friendship or romantic relationship with. Lots of love from Europe

I have a brother in law who had a really bad break up. He was depressed for like 2 whole years after his wife left him. One day, he walked out of work and there was a lady in a wheelchair and she was stuck in the snow and trying to get out. My brother in law went to help her and they started dating after that and got married shortly after. My brother in law is a really caring person and loves caring for his wife. I think he likes the fact that she is dependent on him for certain things because he knows that she won't leave him like his first wife. When I see them together, I see true love.

AKT86 awe I have known the same feeling!!! I was in a car accident & aside from being told I wouldnt use my arm again I couldnt walk without massive pain (often passing out) for 8 years. At the time of the accident I had just broken up with my boyfriend & you know he never once even came to visit? I died & came back the last surgery & was staying with his parents & he still didnt care. Then limping everywhere, unable to be active like others, getting stuck in the parking lot unable to walk. I even had a guy say "I'll give you a sympathy date". That was from age 28 to 36. Started my nonprofit in 2008 & wrote my first book. Today Ive recovered & I have my life back but I look for the deeper connection that surpasses things like health issues. I lost every single friend at the time cuz I was disabled and I did think "why would a man waste his time with me". But I was superficial cuz I didnt realize not all men are that shallow. I remember crying in the hospital saying I'll never get married with one arm. haha Now Im more concerned with finding a good guy :)

AKT86 also to add it is a great filter to find those who actually are there for the right reasons. You know if I met a guy with one arm Id probably like him even more now. :) I know a man who is like a dad to me, his wife cant do anything for herself and he loooves to take care of her. Its the sweetest thing in the world. Love is just love

hey! I am also a disabled person. Though not on wheelchair and I avoid using artificial limbs. I am 30, and still never dated anyone, just because they see me as a responsibility. I try to be independent and seldom need help. even I am one of those who only go out with their parents. I have fallen for a guy who is a friend of mine . I can only text him. this is a long distance thing that is why we meet once a year. Somewhere, I have sensed that he has also fallen for me.

My first real love couldn't walk, I had to help her with showers, sometimes dressing depending on her condition. She had CMT. It effect her muscles, nerves and such. I didnt see her for her disability, but the wonderful lady she were on the inside. Sadly her 19 years of constant bullying had left its mark on her, and she didnt leave that at the doorstep, it killed our relations. We had been together for 4 years until I couldn't take it anymore. It wasent her disability, I knew what I was going in to. I was prepared to love her unconditionally for the rest of my life, adopt a kid, start our own little family. But again, she were too damaged. Therapy didnt help, let's just say it was a mess, and it still kills me. We were together for four years and we broke up 5 months ago. I know for a fact that she is back at being bullied, in the contry she came from. I feel like I let her down, but i knew i had to say stop for my own sake. I really hope she found the love of her life, there are wonderful people out there that sees you for who you are.

Hi Sammy. Thanks for sharing your story. It has been the exact same for me. I knew I wouldn’t let him down because of the disability but that I wouldn’t want to stay because of it either. You have to stay because of love, not pity. I tried so hard for 11 years to make him happy, but his temper got worse and worse. I gave everything I had but it was not enough. As you said, he was too damaged...
I am sorry you had to live this painful experience as well. I want to acknowledge you for having the courage to leave in that situation. It’s so tough. I hope you will find some more love in your life. For me, it has been 2 years and I think I am ready to move on. Good luck. :)

This video is not ideal for people suffering from mental health problems. If they see someone who has a better life or who's better looking, they will feel more deeply insecure. People are mostly afraid to go out in the real world and meet people because they feel insecure about the way they look or the way they would come across. They tend to doubt every single thing they might say or act upon; their anxiety is a huge block that limits the ways they want to approach people. Perspective, thus, is temporarily available, like you said. I think it's easy to see things from our own perspective and not from the eyes of those that are truly insecure in every single part of their lives.

Lonesome - exactly! Thats why you go to a mental health professional instead. Like I am, I see a psychologist for Depression and anxiety, about 2 years ago i wasnt even brave enough to leave the house and walk down the street, for fear of being judged harshy kn my appearance etc. But fast forward now, i am going out and being more comfy talking to strangers and doing things that make me happy. And my perspective on my problems has changed, and now they seem so much smaller, than my mindset a few years back.

I don't have a physical disability but I have anxiety and depression which has been a life long issue. I have good days but I have to keep in balance and it doesn't always happen. i have thought that who would want to deal with this even though I know I am a kind hearted person. Sometimes I get tired of it so why would another person want to deal with it. I think people do like me but hanging around and dating are two different things.

Geminilicious Wow do you think we are long lost sisters. That is my life. Mine is definitely genetic. I have also been battling with a hormone imbalance and some health issues after I had my gall bladder out. I just went to the meetup group today I just started organizing recently. I felt totally off, ended getting there late and couldn't quite keep from being out of sorts. Did watch a wonderful Japanese movie called Just Name. Anyway every time I do these things every insecurity comes out. We even had a member show up but he was too nervous to join the group so I found out later he sat near us. We didn't know until he messaged he enjoyed the movie and told us he was nervous. Really there are a whole bunch of out there but so many of us are too scared to admit. This was a man so I am pretty impressed that he admitted it. There are some really out going people and then there are the nervous ones. If you get angry a lot and it isn't because of some trauma get your hormones and thyroid checked. After i went into menopause all I had left was testosterone. It kind of explained why I was angry all the time with a high libido. Oh and by the way going with out a partner makes my fuse short and I have a very long fuse. the only thing that keeps me thinking about dating is going without sex is making me even more cray cray than normal.

YeJamalu Ulen if you go to the flip side of an anxiety, depressed person you will see the person who sees risk or pitfalls before other people thus avoiding dangerous situations emotionally or physically. We are like the canary in the mind we see things many times before other people do. Also, we are kind because we know how hard things can be and some people see this as a weakness that we are too kind hearted but it is actually a strength. We tend to be more creative and when we do form relationships they are very deep relationships.
Try to find a professional therapist but if you live somewhere there just isn't any therapist find a kind doctor to talk to or a wise person maybe even someone who is older. Many times people experience things that they just don't share unless they are asked. There is not point in ending it because there are better things a round the corner and to be honest you need to stay alive long enough to prove them all wrong. I am going to recommend a Korean drama that has subtitles. It is about an introverted, anxious recluse who is a CEO of a company who ran it from one room. No one liked him or understood him. Over time he was able to win people over but not before a tragedy of another sensitive person. Remember everyone has things they have to overcome we just don't know it. dramanices.com/drama/introverted-boss-detail

The risk factor in faking things is high. I think he wants people to get along and love each other again in this semi-sick world. He sees the pain and so he does talks and lectures to connect with people to try to save the innocence. Yes he does look after himself, he says so himself, i dont think thats a bad thing.

Insecurities can ruin everything because we think we're not good enough but I tell you, you just have to see yourself in different perspective and focus on positive things you have because we tend to get jealous with everyone's life but looking to our life we didn't see that how blessed we are as a person.

Thanks for this Matt. Seeing you tear up made me realize a lot of people don't always put themselves in our shoes. When you're disabled everything is 10 times harder including dating. I have been disabled since I was 16. I am glad to say though my dating life does exist. My problem is for the guy to stay. I was recently dumped actually for being too much of a burden (he was promoted to captain in the army and said I can't be alone in the house, I can't drive, I wouldn't be able to take care of any kids if we had any etc). Being disabled this is one of my biggest fears and it came true. It crushed me in the beginning but you know what? I'm still alive and will still continue trying. I have only ever dated disabled so it's all I know how to do anyways. I do get more guys ghost/reject/ignore me as soon as I let them know I'm disabled but I hope it will get me closer to the man who will see me for who I am and not my disabilities. I do have to add though that he regretted breaking up with me but I didn't take him back. In the end I ended up being the emotionally stronger of the two (thanks to my disabilities lol) and decided its time to move on to the next chapter in my life :)

Matthew, I'll be honest... I wrote down two things that I generally label upon myself that I feel are incredibly unattractive about me before getting to watch the....more emotional part of the video. I wrote: anxiety, and over/under-whelming presence. I own that I look beautiful, I own that I have a great personality, and I own that I could date pretty much any guy and have beautiful relationships with these men. But I always feel like I fall short. I even just got dumped because a guy told me he loved me, but wasn't IN love with me. Ouch! But after hearing, "you've got it made!" my worldview shifted for a moment. I do: I've gotten therapy, and a better self-concept, AND I'm still exploring who I am, which is a tad bit scary.... I'm so often dependent on whether I'm loved, that that's all that I'll focus on, and ultimately drive everyone away. It's hard, but the more I am taught that it's okay to love myself, including the insecure, anxious me, including the me that can seem overwhelming or underwhelming in a given moment... the less of the ache of loneliness I feel, and the more warmth pours forth. I know I'm not in the greatest place right now, but I'm in tears from how grateful I am for watching your videos. That Mr. Right IS out there, and I'm continually improving myself for ME, and for a better fit to whomever he is out there. Thank you for instilling hope in me, that I really am worth it, and that life WILL get better.
    Much love,
    ~Karissa

Such a great video! One I can somewhat relate to with my multiple sclerosis. for example some days I wake up and I can't walk or talk correctly, what's worse is that it's unpredictable, and I'm in not saying this to feel bad for myself or convince anyone else to feel bad. I feel as though I've gotten past the part of "grieving" over the loss of somethings that i cannot do or take part in anymore. Also I think it's beneficial to share your struggles with others to show that there is always someone worse off than you, and there is always a way to beat the thing you struggle with, whether it be in regrards to your insecurities or life struggles.
Specifically, something that I am insecure about is my limp caused from an injury that ended my basketball career in high school. I have had several surgeries in an attempt to fix this limp but in the end it always swells back up and the pain starts again. It has been several years and I have realized that some people don't notice the limp and the people that do like to hear about my passion for basketball among other things. Truth is sometimes I think that the insecurities that we have debilbitate us more than they are a reason someone may not like or be attracted to us.
