To pause @8:17 without any sound for one and a half minute is so awesome. Very brave also, never knowing how the audience will react. That said imo it builds up the tension perfectly towards the heavier part. Brilliant!
Axe grew so much as a drummer in Opeth. from machine gun pure metal drummer to an all round excellent musician. shame he s no longer with opeth but all the best to him in the future.
Missing the waltz comping Martin Lopez used to play in this song, i don't think Axe understand those fusion concepts Lopez brought to Opeth, Axe still very good tho.
Dude Lopez was a such a beautiful soul drummer. Anders (the drummer on their first 3 albums was just really fast at the double bass. Axe is really technical because he's known for the Bloodbath drumming style. Lopez took all of this and played in Opeth, guess that's why we love him the most ! :D
hahaha you must know so much about me & my music taste! Opeth is my favorite band, they made these songs sound like Heritage´s tuning, maybe you just listen to metal & you don´t like heritage i don´t know.
Always a problem with rythm guitars soloing, their volume is down compared to the lead guitarist, so the chords are too loud compared to the solo. Such a shame, Ackerfeldt nailed that solo and he doesn't usually shred like that.
By the way, claim what bands like Evoken, Mournful Congregation or Esoteric do. Play metal so slow will not be as difficult as playing tech Death metal , but it's much harder than people think.
Ouch, the guitars a tad bit too loud on this recording. A band that has written some of my most favourite records: Orchid through Watershed, Heritage and Pale Communion are brilliant too but nothing close to what they have written before. Saw them in 2012, life changing experience!
+EricMetalhead Doubtful. It's probably because they now play P24's so every acoustic passage sounds super on point. There are concerts with them both playing their SE's and they sound pretty stellar. Fairly certain they swapped out the pickups anyway which is 90% of the guitar's sound.
Rohann van Rensburg Ohh yes I know, but I think they didn't change the pickups on Mike's model and that is why it sounds so bad. It doesn't matter, I just bought and SE and it's alright, but the pickups make a huge difference.
+EricMetalhead Hmm maybe they didn't then. Would have thought they did. SE's can certainly be decent, but yeah switching out pickups is probably the first go-to. I'd likely switch to PRS locking tuners as well, and their core model nut, makes a big difference for tuning stability.
Hate the way Mikael sings here, it's all flash and no substance, devoid of any intimacy or emotion. Compare it to the subtle, held back way he sings this song on the Lamentations DVD, that stuff is magic. Really, that's a good way to compare the whole band now and then. Now they're more technically accomplished but they've also started to rely on that more than conveying a feeling (which music is all about in the end). Peter Lindgren couldn't really play guitar but he wrote great and memorable solos because he had no choice but to focus on substance instead of flash. I'd take that any day over Fredrik Akesson's bland Guitar Hero shredding.
Since it's easier to feel instead of thinking, people just stick to basic emotions. Besides music isn't about feelings, that's just harmony's job when it wants it to be.
I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU GUYS PLACED 5 ADS IN BETWEEN THIS BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF MUSIC WTF

Possibly the most epic ending to a song ever.
Harlequin Forest has an epic ending too!
Eugênio Fiorelli Cysne Ghost of Perdition has possibly the best ending of any song that has ever reached human ears!!
better than deliverance? :-o
Heir Apparent anyone?
Yea, I think Harlequin Forest has the most epic ending
Ahhh that fucking ending part when they where watching Axe and playing at his tempo was fucking amazing
Martin has to be the most under rated Metal bass player ever. Fucking Beast of a guy.

Michael is a wizard! And quite the gentleman.
Fredrik Akesson and his extra solos.. Purely witnessing greatness.
Axe grew so much as a drummer in Opeth. from machine gun pure metal drummer to an all round excellent musician. shame he s no longer with opeth but all the best to him in the future.
axe is a prog monster
just imagine if heritage was released in the 70s, it would have been up there with classics like fragile
best guitar solo's from Mikael and Fredrik in this performance.
Yeah, it's amazing to see Fredrik not shred anymore!
fredick fucked up the solo
efsane çalıyolar bu konserde zaten. inanılmazlar.
seda özdemir no one like Peter and Mikael to play that solos ;-;
I love how they went all My Dying Bride at the end. Amazing as always
Holy shit thats a great performance. I've seen them live three times, but i never heard them play this song.
you're damn lucky man !
its a rare one
i think they never played it outside damnation/deliverance era, except for this one
@@nquerosaber thanks for replying on my 9 year old comment :D
this song defines opeth and it defines progressive music!
the lyric, the rhythms, riffs, bass, everything is so perfect!
12:52 @ the girl saying "no, thank YOU!!"
Awww. Nice catch there!
Thank you to Opeth AND the people who bring it to me. That means thank you for the musical posts.
at 9:05 such epic timing. could listen to this track all day.
Fredrik's improvisations are awe inspiring.
The pause was brilliant.
got chills all over my body.. damn..
God I fucking love opeth
the slow down part in the end is amazingly done!
this song is perfection itself ....
you went full Doom Opeth, never go full Doom... (actually pls do)
This is fucking brilliant.
I witnessed pure musicianship here
And Opeth turned Evoken with this spectacular funeral doom rhythm at final...
Masters. Period.
dat ending tho! a legit, brutal breakdown \m/
oh I liked fredriks interpretation of the solo!
It wouldn't be a legitimate Opeth show without someone yelling out random comments during the slow sections.
I love u Mikael.. This song is so fuckin magic
Aaand i am watching opeth live videos again
Good record Moshcam. Please continue..
when it gets too slow, the drummer is the leader. all will turn to the drummer who will signal the next move
this was insane from the front row
Hey how about not putting 6 ad's in a song. Thanks.
Great Video Man!!
Perfektly!!!!
Amazing
fucking phenomenal from beginning to the end!
beautiful and tragic at the same time. forgot the advice.
I wish the solos were a bit longer. The song is sooo coool @___@Covering it nwo :D
wow!
Qué bien que suena la viola de Fredrik!!!!
That ending made me finish.
4:34
I really wish they hadn't changed the last solo. It was perfect the way it was.
I agree. Maybe it was better live.
live stuff for the crowd. also live you get to experiment and see what reaction you get
Es una maravilla Axenrot 🤘💪
Больше лукасов этой божественной группе!!
Epic ...
Is there any bootleg available of this concert 😊
Holy sh*t!
God damn
I always thought they should play the ending slower. Rad.
Yeah, it's the most Funeral Doom-ey riff Opeth have written. \m/
***** You got that right ;)
Reminds me old Anathema in ending part.
Men, yeah, is truth, but this is absolutly better than Anathema :)
Holy Fuck!!!
Where is peter??
Ad? Between a music? Shame... 😐

Anway Pramanik Lopez is the best drummer that Opeth had. He has a real touch of the real Opeth era.
lmao at mikael's pause
fuck my life the doom outro tone... c h u g
Perfection

Nice improv from Akesson.
9:36, fucking evil
Moshcam banking with Opeth, too many ads

Complain? it was just a comment, maybe wrongly understood 'cause I am not a native English speaker.
I prefer the lamentations version over this any day
The breakdown at the end confirms that really bad at math
Nor am I, but it's ok then.
You made it sound like a complain.... and now you shift it? What the fuck.
Martin Lopez was their best drummer…awful snare drum sound here…
He was an incredible drummer, I wonder what he is up to these days
Soen.
This live version is ruined. Way too many adds now 👎🏽
it sounds too much heritage!
Go back to your cave, you fool.
NO! Fredrik ruined the solo. :-(
A heavy song that Mikael can't ruin with his awful current death growls? They should play this all the time.
Is the fact that MIke's guitar sounds so shit due to the fact it's an SE?
I think.
So

This song is really very good but other Opeth metal songs with Slayer or Pantera vocal style are horrible and indigestible.
nah
If only Slayer or Pantera had that vocal style :O
